appbrain and the nexus - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I like using appbrain website to install apps from computer to phone. But the apps don't install on the phone and don't even come up on the list on my phone eventhough I've "synced".
I tried enabling Fast Web Installer, but it brings me to market and tries to download the web installer but it just hangs at "starting to download".
Any ideas?

Fast Web Installer was broken by Android 2.2.1 and I don't think it's coming back.
Perhaps that's the problem?

I just add apps from the website to my list of apps, then when I sync on Appbrain they show up in the top list of things to install.

Well forget Fast Web Installer, disable it. Can you install apps from the market normally?

launch gtalk, let it sign in, then hit home. Then go back to market, click download, and then STAY ON THE MARKET SCREEN until it finishes, then watch it, and make sure it installs. Most likely, you have a lot of background service apps that are in memory all the time. Your phone is running out of memory and killing the Market before it can finish installing. Keeping it open during install will keep Android from killing it.

I tried to do what you said but every time as the download is about to reach 100% I get a Market forceclose. Then I get the notification of "download complete" but when I go back to the Market it's as if I never downloaded it

Uninstalled app still appears in Market

I recently installed an app called Moon Phase, and promptly decided it was useless to me. So as usual I uninstalled it. Unfortunately it still appears in the Market as an installed app (even after rebooting). I would have tried to install and uninstall it again, but the buttons in the app's page in the Market are greyed out. How do I go about removing the app from my download list in the Market?

Easiest way is to find the apk online somewhere, install using astro or apps installer/whatever and then going to market downloads section then uninstalling the program again from there.
The hard way is forcing the market database to rebuild itself.

Only do this if it is a free app, do NOT pirate (or support piraters)

Or, a wipe.
Tried various market database fixes myself but eventually had to just find the .apk somewhere else, install with Astro then remove with Market.
The app in question is definitely a free app (this one). I will e-mail the developer to see if he can send me the APK. Thanks for the info guys!

Market Auto Update ?

Hi,
Is there a way to auto update all upgradable app in the maket in the same time ?
Not unless there is a third party app that can do it for you, which I doubt.
Didn't found it :/
There also no API to do it myself
The Appbrain app comes pretty close. The app is linked to your account on appbrain.com from where you can browse the market and mark apps to be installed or updated. Then syncing the app on your phone with the site lets you click a button to apply all updates. It will then search market for every app, and if you hit install, then after the install, it will immediately search for the next app in market, and so on.
The app also checks if there are any updates available for your installed apps, and lets you update them the same way.

it shows you updates yes... but it doesn't download them and install them automatically which many people want...
downside to auto-update it that a new release might not be as good as the previous one and if it auto updates itself your screwed... (not really if you have backups... or if the auto-update app has 'ignore app' feature.. but yhh)..
also many people are security concious.. as the new app could have something like 'deletes all your data' ... and you won't know
But again that could be an added feature to an auto-update app... the ability to check if the old "warnings" like "change contacts" or "make or receive calls" is still there or has it been modified.. if modified...it will wait for phone owner to say yes / no to update.. if not it will auto-update etc

[Q] Appbrain Install?

I've performed the updates to my G Tablet as described in the superthread which are great! I've moved on to trying to install PnPlay but it's not available in what I can see in the Market. It looks like I could install it through AppBrain, but the AppBrain app is not available in what I can see in the market either. I can't find the .apk anywhere else.
Can someone please provide a suggestion for how I can install AppBrain?
Thanks!
Check out my thread on the full market fix in GTablet Android Development. I see AppBrain in my market now.

Have you done the market fix? It will show up in the market after that. Search for titanium in the market. If you don't see that either you need to do the market fix to fill it up.
Thanks for the tip. Followed instructions in this thread for Market fix and it worked like a champ.

A couple points.
1. Doing the market fix will give you a lot of apps but, depending on your ROM, you may still be missing some apps.
2. AppBrain helps you search whats on the market. However, if you cannot see a program in the market AppBrain isn't going to be able to install it.
Hey Swift. That's not necessarily true.
With AppBrain and Fast Web Installer enabled, I was able to download apps like VPlayer that didn't show up on my marketplace.

fast web refuses to install in tnt 2.2... worked in cm6b4 though. it insists that there's a device-specific compatibility error, which i've never seen before...
edit: refuses to *run* post install from the market is what i specifically mean.

[Q] Missing Apps in Nookie Froyo

I just installed Nookie Froyo to the eMMC. Works amazingly, and I've got Marketplace working.
However, a bunch of the apps that I'm searching for are missing from the marketplace. Stuff like Twitter and Dolphin HD. How can I fix this?
i have also noticed this running other versions. I switched to froyo for hopes of having youtube but that won't work. I can't even get marketplace to work... I tried installing it from a google link but got an error that i could only install ... tired and can't remember. Could you share how you got marketplace to work? i dont even have it as an option in my apps

Clear the Google Framework data and Market cache. Then reboot. It is under settings, view all apps.

I worked through this earlier tonight. If you have marketplace working, download market enabler - which lets you "spoof" a carrier. Follow the instructions above and after rebooting but before running market, run market enabler and select US TMobile as a profile. When you run marketplace, you will see the missing apps like google maps, weather channel, etc. This is discussed in more depth in the ROM thread.

Do you still see adobe flash in the market after this. Does flash still work in your browser? I did that to get dolphin browser and it worked but I lost flash. So I reverted back.
How do you enable youtube in Froyo?
Youtube won't work without the YouTube app since youtube is on flash 10.2 and were stuck with 10.1 for now.

Hmm, I've tried clearing the data and force stopping the framework and market, I've tried clearing the data and not force stopping (like earlier in this thread), after each reboot I run the market enabler, long press on Tmobile, it says it set it, I open up market and the apps are still missing.
Awesome...worked like a charm.

I have the same issue and tried the same things. Everything works great except the missing apps.
Any ideas?
I'm still running into this issue as well. I tried setting it to Tmobile after clearing the data as well as the cache and rebooting. Setting it to Verizon doesn't seem to be working either.
One option is to use titanium take the apps from your tb forder on your phone and copy them to the tb folder on your nooks sd there are three files for each app. The just restore the them

I'm not sure if this is the issue but I seem to remember that you don't want to clear the data for the market application - just the cache. And clear the data (and not the cache) for the framework.
This is discussed in the developer forum for this ROM - I'm not sure if everyone has this problem or even if this is a fix for everyone. I saw the symptoms described here and had good luck with following what was in post 492 here.
