It would seem that contrary to Apple's claim, the Galaxy Tab is actually the highest resolution mobile phone ever with a resolution of 1024x600.

although i don't like apple, but i think what apple claim is having the highest Pixel density, which is 326ppi (pixel per inch).
have you screen size tho? it makes a difference. looking at a 55 inch 1080p and 32 inch 1080p has big difference. atleast i notice it with my TVs and i also have the iPhone 4.

..but what he means is that Galaxy Tab has phone functions(SMS, calling), the iPad doesn't.
1) Apple's claims the iPhone's 4 display is "highest-resolution phone screen ever"
http://www.apple.com/iphone/features/retina-display.html
Which means that according to Apple, there are no phones with resolution above 960x640.
2) The Galaxy Tab, with it's 1024x600 display is fully operational as a phone. It has a proper SIM Card, it's own number from the carrier, SMS/MMS, voice and video calls. And even a stated talk time of Up to 28 h (2G) / Up to 25 h 30 min (3G).
FYI
960 x 640 = 1024 x 600 = 614400

Its as simple as that. You could've at last done some math before creating a topic about this. And anyway the pixel density of the tab would be comparable.

Well, with there being two phones with the same resolution means the asertion that Apple have made in their UK adverts (that is the highest of any phone) is not valid.
Time for a quick letter to the ASA
That might be true... but it's still great resolution screen overall. Although i saw the screen on the EVO and it looked even better but i don't think it is
Does Samsung market the Tab (Yes, Tab, not Phone) as a phone? No. iPhone 4 has the highest resolution in a mobile phone. Even though Samsung Tab can be used as a phone, it doesn't mean it automatically can be considered as a mobile phone. It's marketed as a tablet, and competes with the iPad. Not the iPhone.
If i attach or intigrate call function in my 42" TV, it doesn't automatically transform into the worlds biggest phone.
but iphone it's magical!
That's true! (Not)
yeah I have iPhone 4 and I am really satisfied with its high resolution.

sorry, we are talking about resolution and pixel density. n8 is kind of a fail at this because it has only 640 * 360 resolution.

And I think my screen on my Craptivate looks nicer (color/brightness) - but teh iPhone 4's clarity is a lot nicer.

Dunno about you lot but I would only buy a phone with a 4.3 inch screen or larger. I tried to go back to something small like a HTC Touch Diamond for a week but after 2 hours I couldn't handle it. I like everything big and colorful, easy to read and more to see.
I agree, I like 4 and bigger. I have an htc inspire and love the big screen. I could do without the weight if this thing though. Its heavier than some of my fishing reels.

I can't wait in a year or two where they ditch all the buttons so that they can increase the size to maybe 4.5in and above within the small size of like an HD2.

I can understand that preference, but I do not share it. Screen-wise, I'd rather have a Desire HD/Inspire/Thunderbolt than an iPhone 4.
3.5" is just too small these days IMO.
I'm glad we're all in agreement here.
I remember being satisfied with the original Droid screen when it came out partly due to the amazing pixel density of the device (which is still pretty good for its size, IMO) but after I picked up a Droid X...I can't accept anything less.
Bigger is better but just keep the resolution going in the same direction!
I'm going to go with at least 4 inches. I'm using a N1 right now and at 3.7(8?) it isn't that bad, however I'm not really watching media on the phone so that doesn't bother me. LCD density changer also helps by adding more psuedo screen size to it as well.
I'm waiting for the Galaxy S 2; when that comes out I'll probably pick that up here in the states.
any size between 4-4.3

Those of us with big fat fingers would disagree with you. High resolution might make a small screen easier to read, but using the onscreen keypad with a small screen, regardless of the resolution, can be tough.

I agree, the resolution is most important. Also i think phones more than 4 inches is very inconvenient, especially for active people.
Resolution isn't everything, look at a 480x800 SAMOLED + screen compared to some higher resolution SLCDs. True blacks, more contrast and vibrancy in comparison. Never seen complaints about its "low" resolution, so I don't totally buy that higher resolution = better overall screen.

i think that 3' screen up is good
I prefer a smaller device, so 3.7" screen on my Droid Incredible is perfect. I would not like if the device were any longer or wider than it already is. I even find the iPhone 4 a bit too long, height-wise. It always feels so uncomfortable when the phone ends up sideways in my pocket.
I can't say I am fond of the increase in phone sizes closer and closer to tablet sizes. There is no 3.7" mass market upgrade for the Droid Incredible or Nexus One. I would not mind a 4" phone if they shrunk the borders enough to maintain the dimensions of a 3.7" phone, but so far it seems only Apple cares about doing that.
I used to have a HTC Incredible with a 3.7" screen and now have a HTC Thunderbolt with a 4.3" and I don't think I could ever go smaller, the large icons are so nice.
The thing that really blows me away that hasn't been discussed in most reviews or here is the screen resolution on this 7 inch tablet with a dpi of 213. The text looks so crisp on a web page, close to ipad 3 almost (i know it is not).
As a matter of fact, because of getting use to this clear text, I had a few days left on my return policy for the Asus TF300, which I use to think had a very nice screen, but now the text seems blurry to me. I have heard the same from people switching from ipad 1 or 2 to ipad 3.
Thus, I have decided to return my tf300 and just ordered an Asus TF700 for use as my 10 incher.
Anyone else getting too use to this type of resolution?

Um... well, the ppi on the Nexus 7 is not really that high. It is higher than that of most tablets out there, but it is lower than almost all current gen Android phones, and even some previous ones. So if you have been at least staring at a Nexus One with a ppi of 254, this should not be all that impressive. Though you do hold it further away from your face.
However it is indeed very impressive by tablet standards. The previous gen iPads had a horrendous ppi of 132. And I believe the highest ppi of any Android tablet is currently found on the 499$ Transformer Prime Infinity with a ppi of 224. So the Nexus 7 surely packs quite a bang.

Funny... that is exactly what I would say about the 7. Way too warm compared to the rest of my devices (IPad 3, Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy S3). Its kind of annoying really. I'm adapting though because I love the size.
My original intention was to get the TF700, i decided that saving $230+ was a better choice and went with the N7 and i love the screen. No complaints about the resolution. :good:

No, because i'm used to 284 DPI on my Galaxy Note. The Nexus 7 has a good screen (especially for the price), but it's nowhere near as good as the AMOLED on the Note.
I agree with th op. screen is great quality. out of all tablets, infinity pad is the best and nexus 7 comes in close second. the text is really crisp and hd movies look really good on it.

I guess I did have tablets in mind when I posted this, never even thought about comparing to phone.
However, i would be interested in this comparison though. Web browsing is where I see the effects of a high rez screen the best due to text size. On people with phones that have better dpi like Galaxy nexus, if you open up a web site in ITS DESKTOP VERSION like yahoo.com (and if you have font size set to Normal), can you still read the small texts pretty well? Would be interesting to see the effects of large dpi but on a smaller screen.
I think the screen looks amazing. For the price you can beat this tab. Am happy I got one.
The warm color issues can be fixed with kernels and gama settings. Well I think it can, I fixed my Galaxy Nexus colors by tuning the multipliers

Snapdragon 800 will be more likely used in tablets, so i also dont expect it to be in next Nexus device , it will most probably will be SD600 like in other top models this year.
Ill bet for 1080P , 5" screen (which is also useless in phone, but everyone got it so Google will also). 2GB of ram (who needs more in a phone?)
No sdcard slot, no removable battery - standard in google phones.
the most major change will be the OS, KLP will most probably be pushed to phones after I/O.

Hello guys,
in several sites I see people talking about the Moto X, many classify it as a octa-core smartphone (dual-core 1.7ghz Krait processor + single-core contextual computing + single-core natural language processor + quad-core Adreno 320 GPU).
Anyway... below is a link to a document which (as I understand it) itself Qualcomm explains that Adreno 320 of our N4 is also quad-core, in other words the N4 can also be considered a octa-core smartphone (of this view point).
I am raising this topic, due to the fact that the launch of the Moto X generated a great noise, which in my humble opinion is exaggerated due to the fact that it does not innovated much. And of course it has come with a price quite salty for your hardware configuration.
Link: http://www.qualcomm.com/media/releases/2011/02/14/qualcomm-announces-next-generation-snapdragon-mobile-chipset-family
If anyone has interest in manifest, feel free!
The Moto X does innovate, but not within the geeks and processor whores...
It inovates in having the always "on" mic dedicated chip, the Moto Maker, the active notifications...
In many times innovation does not come in form of faster processors...

The moto x would have been a great phone at a nexus price. The screen is the densest non-pentile AMOLED screen out there that I'm aware of. But the price is how it generated all that hype, the price rumors buoyed everything else. By the time the real price surfaced, there were already a bunch of low information followers in the mass market who were fascinated by the colors and motomaker, and didn't know much else. That's where the x8 branding came in handy, making it seem to these folks like a higher end device. It's not bad, those two cpu cores are krait 300 while our 4 are krait 200. Unless you're using some form of windowed or multiscreen (doing one thing on phone while streaming another to HDTV) multitasking, it's probably a wash between the two.
All things being equal, I'd rather have the moto x. At more than double the price (16gb n4 $250 vs 16gb Moto x $575), all things are definitely not equal.
This is exactly why I am a huge fan of AMOLED and I'm extremely surprised it's not being capitalized on more.
We don't need the pixel density all the time. We don't need the entire 4.7" screen all the time. With amoled, we could potentially see huge battery savings. I wouldn't mind texting in half-res.

AMOLED screens have a very high change of screen burn. And it tends to deteriorate faster. Also the colours are too saturated for my taste. But can't argue with the battery saving part of it. Anyway I would prefer a IPS screen anyday.

I'd like AMOLED just for battery saving, but I definitely prefer IPS too
Amoled screens really are very saturated, colors like yellow and gray often appear greenish/orange, whatever.
I think the IPS screens are closer to reality, though when you have the brightness at maximum, are desaturated.

Right, in current usages, there really isn't. The "best" that has been done to accomodate them was the dark status bar / theme starting in Gingerbread. Otherwise, bright/colorful images will actually consume more than a traditional LCD backlight.
What I would like to see are reduced usage modes-- by effectively lowering the pixel density / resolution, say by disabling every other set of RGB, power consumption could effectively be halved. I would have no problem with say a green-only half-res mode for texting.
I guess though the issue is "how often am I texting" vs "how often am I doing something else that would benefit from a full-fledged display"
I could imagine a power-saving e-reader mode being useful...

Damnit, just when I "find" a procesor I can trust (LG G2's Snap 800 is awesome), the next Nexus tablet might not use it.
I guess if this is true, I'll be holding off for a while after it intros to upgrade from my 2012 to the new one.

LOL, Yeah I agree... All of a sudden my decision not to upgrade to the 2013 N7 seems like was perfectly warranted. WOW, kinda hard to wrap my head around 4 times the performance. Lets hope its not at the cost of 4 times the power consumption, hahaha. Even with a bigger battery it might get to warm to carry around without using it outdoors in a stiff wind. lol
Seems like a kinda far-fetched rumor.
Hummmmmm Really????

I was thinking the same thing.. But it was 70 two days ago then the next day 12 deg with 2 inches of snow ..
Nothing Surprises me anymore.
Intel has already announced the CPU family weeks ago, and it is no longer a rumor. They have one called the Merrifield Z3480, which is a dual-core and runs at 2.13 Ghz, and another Called Moorefield Z3580, which is Quad-core and runs at 2.35 ghz. Both are native 64bit processor SoC's and combine many of the devices needed to perform mobile functions.
Here’s a look at the Intel Z3480 Merrifield SoC:
2.13 GHz dual-core 64-bit-ready SoC (Intel’s 22nm process technology on Silvermont microarchitecture)
13 MP support hardware-capable; 8 MP enabled on Form Factor Device (FFD)
LPDDR3 memory, 2×32 bit, up to 4 GB; 8.5 GB/s
USB 3.0; eMMC 4.5
Android 4.4.2 OS support
1080p 60 fps video recording and playback
H.265 (HEVC) and VP9 support <--- This is amazing
Imagination PowerVR G6400 GPU
Intel Mobile Wireless Display (Intel WiDi)
Intel XMM 7160 LTE Modem for 4G, 3G and 2G
Bluetooth 4.0 low energy, Wi-Fi (802.11a/b/g/n/ac)
Digital Rights Management (DRM) support
HDCP 2.x for premium content over HDMI

The only thing hard to believe for me is the fact that Nexus may get it. I mean a SoC like this is bound to be expensive, right? Intel isn't known for supplying cheap processors. I would think just the SoC alone is going to be $200. No?
Looks like there is also talk of a Nexus 6... My only question is are these devices just gonna keep getting bigger and bigger????
Seems like soon we will have the nexus tablets with 15 inch screens!! I like the size of my n7 and I hope they keep it.

I think eight inch is better than seven. 6" 8" and 10" seems perfect. They do not design these to cover a need, they design them to sell them. Sadly, humans think when a number goes higher it is automatically better. Even when you realize its not, your brain continues to work that way. If they released another Nexus 7, it would not sell as much as the new Nexus 8.
8" could be done the same size as the nexus 7. Might not be too bad. Personally I'd like something bigger for NY next tablet but I don't want an Intel processor. They are usually weaker on graphics and some apps are not compatible.

Also think about what LG is doing with bezels... You could get an 8" display in the size of the Nexus 7 frame today, or with very little increase in size.
Not saying LG is the OEM or anything, but bezels are getting smaller and smaller, which means larger screens in the same overall device size.

negative, a 6" phone is too big for many people.
also i've heard the new intel chips will be no good for the custom ROM community: http://androidcommunity.com/intels-...g-trouble-for-android-customization-20140317/

Scary, but not surprising coming from Intel. The more I think about it the more I don't like the idea of an Intel processor. Too many bad memories of the crappy atom processors in netbooks don't help.

Yeah, I like that idea about less bezel, but I also do not want zero bezel, or some of your fingers flesh while holding it could get in the way. Maybe 1/8 or 1/4 wide bezel, no more. I just know I want a 8" or 9" screen tablet for doing business while I am still in bed. I usually wake up about 5 hours after going to bed, and I can't keep from checking email, paypal, ebay, replying to client questions and customer concerns, etc. I spend 45 minutes every morning and I find the screen and font sizes too small on the N7. I know I can change font sizes, but it just don't fit right. I think another inch, or inch and a half, would make it a little bit better to do business while my eyes are still tired. After 45 minutes my eyes are extremely sore from the constant focusing, and trying to read. Maybe larger fonts and more screen real-estate and my eyes wouldn't get so tired. And I feel that 10" may be just a little too big to snuggle with, lol... But I don't know...
Yeah a 6" phone would be stupid. So, maybe a 5" phone tops, 8" tablet and a 11", to replace the 10?
Oh, and why on earth would it not be good for custom roms and Intel processors? The worlds best chip maker and no one wants one in their mobile device? I would think the source would still be released regardless of the chip type and maker.

Then you need to read up. Intel has a bad reputation in the past with Linux and their atom chip. They are also known for locking down features and building things mainly for Windows.

Yes, I am well aware of their past Atom woes. But that does not automatically mean these new processors will suffer the same fate.
And it looks possible that Google may have tapped HTC to manufacture this beast...
