[Q] wanna try custom roms.. help please D: - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi,
i am still pretty n00b when it comes to android, but i really wanna try and put a custom ROM on my I9000. i recently updated to the official 2.2 firmware via kies.
i've been snooping around and really like the look of Darky's v7 gingerbread edition 2.2.1 custom ROM, i was reading the instructions, and it said you need a kernel with recovery 2e by chainfire. i went on that forum and was looking, and i don't think there's one for my firmware.
my baseband is dtjp3 and build is dtjp5
when i was looking through CF-ROOT files, i couldnt find one that was like mine?
CF-Root-JPH-v1.0
CF-Root-JPH-v1.1
CF-Root-JPK-v1.1
CF-Root-JPM-v1.2-Busybox-1.15.3
CF-Root-JPM-v1.2-Busybox-1.17.1
CF-Root-JP6-v1.2-Busybox-1.15.3
CF-Root-JP6-v1.2-Busybox-1.17.1
CF-Root-JPJPA-v1.2-Busybox-1.15.3
CF-Root-JPJPA-v1.2-Busybox-1.17.1
CF-Root-XX_XEU_JPO-v1.2-Busybox-1.15.3
CF-Root-XX_XEU_JPO-v1.2-Busybox-1.17.1
CF-Root-XW_XEE_JPA-v1.2-Busybox-1.15.3
CF-Root-XW_XEE_JPA-v1.2-Busybox-1.17.1
CF-Root-XX_OXA_JPU-v1.3-BusyBox-1.15.3
CF-Root-XX_OXA_JPU-v1.3-BusyBox-1.17.1
sorry for the n00b question guys, would appreciate if someone could clear this up!

Do you have 3br? If so just flash different rom jpy for example is supported by cf then go to darkys rom this is the route i took.

[Q] whats the best way to flash to froyo

hello can someone give me some advice what is the best way to flash to froyo
do you need to have a firmware already installed like jm8 for instance or can you
just wipe my phone and install from fresh .
thank you
Just flash JPY from samfirmware.com as a PDA without a PIT file selected.
can i do it even if my galaxy doesnt have a firmware already installed i was wanting
to do it from a fresh wipe then just install the jpy
thank you
i would suggest to flash Darky's Rom. it's easy and you don't need to use odin or heimdall. plus its a really fast Rom!

i was looking into doing that but an i flash without having a firmware already installed
or do i need one already on the phone i have read on a lot of post people saying

whats the best way realy
thank you
Kies 2 is the easiest way........... If you want to flash to a custom 2.2 I suggest reading through these forums for a few good hours.
How does your phone work if you have no firmware .???
Suggest A Froyo update is normally via Kies . Why do you need to flash ??
Suggest B If you are flashing custom roms please please read all the posts regarding flashing and save breaking your phone .
Suggest C questions go in the Q& A section not development .
jje
<----- says the best way to flash FroYo if you are a woman is to wear a t-shirt with FroYo stencilled.
Seriously, if you want an official 2.2, try one thats correct for your country & region. General section has a sticky.
If you are adventerous & want to experiment, try one of the MODDED ROMs available. There is a sticky here in dev.
If you want a 2.2.1 without ant modifications, try to search for it here in dev with a title [MOD][CSC] or something or try my desi link in my signature. I will search & add links later.
PS : how old are you?

[q] help please!!!

first, sorry for my english...i'm from chile and i wanna know if i can use the new rom (New Rom - HumberOS-v1.3.0-Americas) on my alaxy tab p1000L. in this moment i have 2.3.3 firmware, kernel 2.6.35.7, overcome v3.0.1-jupiter. pleas i need help cause im noob =(. In this ROM works TV? thanks for all.
No. The thread title says that is a froyo kernel, and your tab is gingerbread.
so i can't change to froyo? srry again... like i said i m noob...thanks
You can go down to froyo to get the tv app, but there is a gingerbread kernel for your tab too. Just look a little farther for it. It is posted by the same friend, Humberos, I think.

[Q] Rooting samsung galaxy s I9000 2.3.3

Hello,
I want to root my samsung galaxy s I9000, but I dont know what kernel etc I should use.
Firmware 2.3.3
Baseband Version I9000XXJVO
Kernelversion [email protected] #2
Buildnumber GINGERBREAD.XWJVH
Are there any guides/tutorials around that might help me out?
Searched around but couldnt find anything.
Thx already!
I would say in the following thread you will find everything you need It's a Kernel which ist like the stock one and only adds root and CWM. a guide is included in the Thread.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108

Yes with cf-root you can instal custom rom
What version of the guides kernel do i need btw? im totally new to rooting my phone.
Thanks for all the help already!
Anyone could help me?
Try rom JW1 and semaphore kernel 2.4.0. I am using this combination and its good .
But can I take a kernel that is a other version, higher then the 2.3.3 that I am on right now? And do I need a kernel thats is build on .XWJVH, or does that not make any difference?
I think you can put the kernel with the newer version, but it will be better as the newer rom and upload to the newer kernel, you will be satisfied.
Im still kinda confused on how to flash/root my phone. Aint there any newbie guide that explains everything and makes it easyer for me to root my phone? And I still dont know if it matters what version kernel i take etc...
Thx!
You're dutch, aren't you?
Just go to androidworld.nl, that's easier for you I think...
You can normally use Kernel's that are close to your rom, but it is recommended to use only those kernels for your rom- as far as I know. Please correct me if I'm wrong!

[Q] Soft Bricked I987 ATT Tab

Can someone please help, i was trying to flash cwm on stock froyo att tab and encoutered an issue, after 48 minutes stuck in Odin i decided to unplug the tab, after this when i started i get the phone..triangle..pc all the links i have found in the forums are old, cant find the 2.2 firmware any link i find has either got the 2.3 firmware or is died This is my baby and i have been dying to get ICS on it and am dying without my galaxy tab
a little bit confuse with your description. try froyo, but dying hard for ics?? and by the way,i have also experienced the same phone-triangle-pc after having trouble to flash jq1 stock rom. after i got the phone-triangle-pc logo,i try with cf root kernel (jq1) and successful. but you said you don't want gingerbread. so.. :-|
i wasnt at the point of flashing a rom yet, i need the kernel for froyo because att never went to 2.3, so i need the stock firmware but cant find an alive download. I was only at the point of using Odin to ad CWM to be able to flash a new kernel or rom
My opinion, still best to head to Overcome thread in dev section.
Gean their Stock Safe rom to restock, and grab their kernel and flash that too, via Odin.
From there you get CWM and your filesystem gets converted to ext4 and you are ready to go for ICS.

ok so all his links are down to, the only other stock roms i could find was Rotohammer roms but deodexed.com is down to... im loosing hope everyone got to flash new roms I hope someone out the still has the files needed and can re-upload
I am pretty sure one of Overcome mirror is alive.
Where did you go to?
Teamovercome.net ?
