[Q] Could the aria be used as a computer mouse? - HTC Aria Themes and Apps

I was just playing a game and was using my trackball for like the second time ever lol. Then I remembered that the aria has an optical trackball. I was curious to know how accurate the optics would be in terms of dpi and if the phone could somehow be utilized as an optical computer mouse. I know this wouldnt have very much practical use but I thought itd be really cool if it was possible. I do know of remote desktop apps that allow you to use the touchscreen to move your computer mouse, but this would just be a mouse, like maybe a computer program running simultaneously with a phone app to detect trackball movements and bimd them to the mouse... Idk, if anyone with programming knowhow could do it or even just explain whether or not its even possible, id settle for that. Let me know what you think.
Oh I just wanted to add that I figured if such an app was made it wouldnt do much good to use a mouse pad as the screen could be very prone to scratches but the trackball seems to respond very well to fabric surfaces as tested on my shirt and jeans so maybe it could be wireless and work great if youre in a bind or on a laptop, maybe volume buttons left/right click?

Try RemoteDroid. You install a small java app on your pc, then use the app on the phone as a mouse and even keyboard. Not perfect, but much cheaper than buying a wireless mouse and keyboard.

Right... Well if you actually read my post I said I already knew about apps like that but they only let you use the touchscreen as a mouse. Im looking for something that specifically uses the optical trackball of the aria

Why don't you just use TeamViewer? It does support trackball.
P.S: It's kinda useless btw. Trackball only moves right left up or down, so you cant move mouse for example upper-right direction.

Lol, well we're all almost at the point now... I guess I wasn't explicit enough, I KNOW about all the remote desktop apps and the like that are available right now. What I'm talking about is something completely new, where ALL THAT THE APP SUPPORTS is the use of the Aria as a mouse via the optical trackball...

Well i was just trying to help, no need to "shout" with capital letters in anger. By the way, you can't know ALL THE REMOTE ****ING DESKTOP APPS. Good luck on finding solution with that behaviour.

Was only using caps in place of italics, no ones angry, and yeah, trying all the remote desktop apps isn't too hard either, that's what search bars are for. Obviously, you still don't get the point either, I'm not looking for a SOLUTION, it was merely a question of curiosity. Maybe you should think before you get your righteous flaming panties in a bunch.

The short answer is no, because its impractical.

Can I Bluetooth connect to my playstation 3 and use my phone as a wireless keyboard
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App

I agree that it would be impractical but I suppose you could use the volume buttons as right and left click and have a semi accurate pointer with the track pad, if it even works like that at all.

Cmon its really good if your not taking your notebook anywhere and you need to write some fukin long mail or something I thinks its really cool and good... 25$.. yeees its not so for everyone but for a business man its really gooooood
Yeah
But Bluetooth Headsets don't work in 2.2 or 2.3 ROMs so I wonder if this will be the same. It'd be good if it linked to the phones wifi.
This bluetooth keyboard doesn't work with Android 2.1, drivers on CD added with keyboard are for Android 1,6. With CM this keyboard will propably work.
I had this keyboard for a few week, but doesn't work with LG, iPod Touch and similar devices.
hmm, it seems interesting... Maybe I'll buy one.
Is there anyone who has used this or similar keyboard before?

I bought this:
http://www.miniinthebox.com/ultra-s...2-0-rechargeable-keyboard-silver_p211557.html
With 2.3.5 CM7 rom you got to have BlueInput software to use it.
With 2.2.1 Utopia that I have now you can pair it directly from the settings>....Bluetooth menu.
It's an HID device (the keyboard) and all such keyboards need HID support from the phone's ROM.
Why I bought this?
I've got one laptop and one netbook.
I never carry a laptop with me. I use it instead of a desktop.
I may carry the netbook and may not carry it when away from home.
When I'm at home and want to lay on the sofa, usually the netbook is occupied by the kids (+ it is heated pretty much).
So I prefer to use my phone for some surfing around the forums etc.
So bought this and is very very practical, although it does not fold.
If you want to buy a keyboard with a brand name eg Freedom Pro (which is foldable) with ssp protocol, there's KEYPRO app to do the pairing and key mapping if I remember well.
This was my first aim, but finally I tried a much cheapier solution.
Sorry for the bump, i searched for over 3 months for a good bt keyboard but all of them cost 30 usd + shipping, so, it's not worth it
but it's big! it isn't portable! right?
I've spoken with mike gapinski (dev of ICS for GT540) and he said, that in ICS there are drivers for pad from xbox, ps3 and apple wirelesss keyboard
I'm using this keyboard when i play ps games on FPse. This device removes problem with multitouch. Keyboard works on SwiftDroid, PCF's CM7, Mike's ICS and I think on most of 2.2+ ROMS. Battery leasts for 48h, so when phone is charging you could play long hours. I bought it for 15 $.
Looks funny but why spend that amount of money for something that will probably be useless to you?
it's not useless - as I said - i play on this device PS games. Without this keyboard you can't use two or even three different keys in games. I think, taht in games it's very helpful.
Looks interesting but If you have access to a wlan sending sms with airdroid is ok.. and cheaper..

check out this BT keyboard with touchpad!

i found it on amazon and i think it would be perfect for the nook as a keyboard and im sure you can use the touchpad for games! i just ordered one.. ill post about it when i get it..

I had one of these; I used it to control my media center PC. It's decent but the touchpad is not that great, it lacked responsiveness.
i got the KB today and it works great! i was thrilled with how good it works and get this.. when you touch the touchpad a mouse cursor pops up and moves around the screen! you can click links, copy/paste and im sure more but i havent tested it fully yet. wonderful purchase i would buy it again. 9 out of 10 thumbs up.
edit: the usb dongle it comes with fits inside the KB, how neat is that? ive tested the touchpad even more and you can use it for anything you can use your finger for! open home, open apps, open menus and select items, use it in certian games, i just used it to surf the web and it saved me alot of time clicking on links and opening/closing tabs.. i change my vote to 10 out of 10 thumbs up cuz i was told android doesnt have a mouse feature and this blows me away! oh and its not unresponsive like that one guy said.
edit edit: if you unplug the nooks usb cable from the charging dock and plug in the mini keyboards usb charger it will charge the keyboard! its the same wattage! 5 volts - 300 ma. no need to plug it into a pc to charge it.
Thanks for your review this looks interesting.
About to order this. Looks really sweet. I was wondering if you can map the keys on the keyboard to android home, menu, and back. if so then it would be completely sweet! Also how is it on reconnecting? Pretty quick? I am reading that you need to install an apk to have it work in android. I assume this is not the case when using cm7. Also what range are you getting?
that would be sweet to be able to remap. no you donot need an apk on cm7 and it reconnects pretty quick.

I guess you cannot use home menu and back on the keyboard anywhere? That takes the usability down a bit, especially with it having a mouse. What about range? How is it? Given the crap shoot of range with the nc this is an important bit of info.

the range is 4 feet (maybe a little more) before it gets buggy and starts skippin letters. as for the size, it is 2/5ths of an inch thick and slightly over 6 inchs long.. if you compaire it to a king sized hersheybar it is almost exactly the same size.
i went thru the packaging and found a mini cd and it includes an apk that makes use much better.. well i should say, it makes the letters show up alot smoother.
edit: i found the manufacterers webpage and a much newer version of the driver, its updated for tablets.. http://www.teksoftco.com/index.php?section=blueinputandroid&tab=download

WoW thats just what I need.
Anyone try the 2nd generation version of the keyboard or the one with the trackball?
So I actually decided to hold off on ordering this until I see more feedback. Is this keyboard actually large enough to support touch typing, or is it more like typing on a physical keyboard on a smartphone? I had a Treo 650 and, while it was better than the soft keyboards on the iPhone and Nook Color, still wasn't very good for taking notes during meetings or conferences, composing lengthy emails, etc. If I'm going to spend $30-50 (or more) on a keyboard for my tablet, I want it to be something that basically allows me to touch type at (close to) normal speed. Otherwise I know I'd never really use it...
Thoughts?

I don't think it is a small feature. That means that with the Right soft (understand app) you can virtually have the equivalent to a harmony universal remote control to master all your IR devices such as TV bluray home theater. I have an harmony and its awesome. Getting old though.

Already tested it and it works fine.
For most devices there are preconfigired setups. If your device is not listed, you can "teach" the phone by holding original remote to the power button and by pressing any button on remote.
Sadly the set of buttons is limited (only most common buttons available)

Have to say i'm quite impressed with it, i thought it was just a bit gimmicky but after trying it out it's quite good.
My 8 year old son was very impressed with it...."woah mum, dad's phone can turn the TV over!"......the wife wasn't impressed at all
Can't wait to get back to work in a few weeks and start p***ing the lads in the canteen off by turning the TV over!
Great thing is, that SGS4 also have IR sensor.
So we can expect some nice apps in near future and another devices with such functionality.
Back to the roots, earlier each phone had IR (ok not same like now)
Oh my. This feature is epic.
For Virgin Media users dont select your cable box as Tivo, it doesn't work select Virgin Media in the option.
Its Epic. EPIC EPIC.
I can't get it to work with my Sharp tv. The auto setup fails and when I try to get it to learn from my existing remote it will learn some buttons but not others. So I can mute the tv, but not unmute it. None of the numbers work, but the volume controls do.
Has anyone got any ideas? Would be awesome to get it all up and running.

You can try to teach your phone from a universal remote that works on our TV.
Well the -Vol button on my Denon DAB Hi-Fi remote in my office has just died so this new phone can't come at a better time.
Same for me, The work TV remote is literally in three pieces on the table after someone destroyed it this week.

[Q] Control Air Conditioner through IR Blaster

is it possible?
Yes. But you need to make an app for that. The IR app can record the database but there's no UI to use it.
As the Siv also got IR-blaster I'd think quite a few IR-apps should pop-up pretty soon.

I hope so. Can't believe it's taken this long to bring IR back to hand held devices.
The remote app can learn. Add a new remote, teach it the AC remote codes and see what happens?
Pretty sure this year will see a whole bunch of competing IR blaster apps being released.

Going back about 20 years, I had a Casio remote control watch. At the time this was a very new and novel concept. A couple of fun stories
1) I was in a shopping mall. There was a TV in the window. I was with my friend and I told him loudly "With my mind I am going to switch off this TV. Focus ....focus....". Then without being obvious, I pressed the button to switch off the TV. A woman was watching me and was so freaked out she went running away down the mall.
2) A hi-fi store had a big 50" (this was very big 20 years ago) front projection TV. They were playing the Lion King cartoon. It was about 11pm at night. I turned the sound up to max, and still couldn't hear much so I thought, oh well, nevermind. Walked about 20 seconds and then suddenly heard a loud lion "roooooaaaarrrr" coming from the shop. Needless to say, I just left it like that
The HTC One media app can learn new IR controls. You select device not in list, and then proceed to point your existing remote at the phone and tell it what each button you press does, and it learns them and can then push those controls out. I'm using it to control my Air Conditioning, TV, Satellite box, and even my projector at work, none of which are known devices, it had to learn them all. It's very clever and extremely easy to set up.

I managed to manually sync my school projector remotes. It's so amazing, but still the air con doesn't work.. :l
I'm getting the same too. Doesn't work for the temperature control either. I think this has to do with the fact that the remote transmits more than a simple "ON" command. It transmits the parameters like fan and temperature.

Try this App. I have nearly the same stripe, i've teached the Power-Button and it works. Will upload the other keys in the next hew hours. Of course it is a bit tricky, because you can't enter a name for the key, and there are just a few predifined ones which are logical. But "power" should be clear, and the rest is try&error.
You can find my commands at:
vendor: "in-akustik LED"
model: "A-Art LED RGB"
type: "Air Conditioning"
Maybe they will work for you.

Sounds like a useless gimmick. My Evo 3D had an overly sensitive screen, didn't always have to touch the screen, just be close, and it detected touch. It was pretty annoying.

Lol it was more of a flaw... It was never intended to be like that but it would randomly register touches from your finger before you touched the screen.

It uses sort of a hands free function: you can use your hand as a wave gesture to swipe pages horizontal/vertically, it has a feature that if you look away from a video it will automatically pause, etc.

If it did you wouldn't want it. The accuracy required to make these gestures reliable is way beyond the technology the S4 has in it, which is why reviewers say it's a gimmick. It either triggers when you don't want it, or doesn't when you do. You'd need something like a Kinect strapped to the top of your phone to really pull that off. The battery drain alone would be devastating.
Add in it likely won't function on any ported ROM or new versions of android. It will be very similar to the 3D where the drivers and other needed stuff won't be available to make it work. One reason I avoided Samsung.

the S4 has a specific sensor just to the right of the earpiece speaker for the air gestures. its not as accurate as they make it seem just like the eye tracking isnt very good either. like previously stated its a gimmick. your average consumer is WOWED by stupid crap like that. i felt like an idiot swiping my hand in front of the phone and when using eye scrolling you have to physically tilt your head up and down. all the phone is doing is tracking the movement of your head and using your eyes as a focal point to base amount of movement off of. not to mention you cant be more than a foot or two from the sensor. if you wear glasses like me its really a pain. i guess the reflection in the lenses of the glasses makes it react funny. ive only played with the s4 for a couple days when ive been at my store but all in all im not impressed. im wondering if it will gradually learn your personal body movements and become more accurate. it seems like they took an S3 made the viewing area slightly bigger, new camera, and stupid gesture sensor. if it worked as well as Tony Starks stuff it might be worth playing with lol. even then though its not practical its just something that looks neat when you can get it to work. you can also use Svoice from the lock screen so say you name your phone then hold home key say name so svoice will launch then you say name again to start a command. the ability to launch from lock screen makes me wonder if it will have security issues like the S3 did. i also feel like me having to address the device twice in a row is dumb. i should say "S4 call ...." or "S4 launch ...." not say "s4" wait for svoice "S4 call...." or "S4" wait a few secs "S4 launch...." again i felt like an idiot standing there making swipes and repeatedly saying "S4..." thats just what i named the one at our store. i like google now bc i launch it then say "google" it beeps i say "search target.com for..." and it goes. i wish it worked better as a launcher for apps or taking appointments, sending emails, texts, ect.. i will say svoice has that going for it.
in the end im still holding out for black 64gb HTC One. im getting ready to make a sacrifice to cellphone gods if i dont hear something official soon.

Google Now can do all of those things.
Seems like more of a headache than it's worth trying to get it on the HTC One.
