[Q] How can I get to contacts from the gmail app - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm sending or "sharing" some pics from the gallery and it seems to me I should be able to get to contacts to select addresses. Is there a way to do that instead of having to type in all the email addresses? The gallery part is really immaterial I guess other than it is a natural flow of steps...
Edit...
Turns out you can't. switched over to the regular email app.

Gmail and K9 Question

I have been using k9 for my email since I have multiple gmail accounts, but today since I can use multiple accounts in gmail now, I set up gmail. I have found that emails that have embedded pictures do not show the pictures even if I click on show pictures. Any idea on how to fix this?
This has me considering going back to K9, but if I do does anyone know of a way to get messages to completely delete from the server instead of moving to Imap/Trash? I have it set to delete from server, but did not know if there was anything else I could set in K9 to do this. Thanks for any ideas.
The only 2.1 ROM that has pictures showing up in Gmail (so far) is DarchLegend v4.1.

[E-mail vs Gmail]

This is probably an android noob thing, but I cannot seem to understand how to use the "email" app and the "gmail" app.
I want to use the stock/default android email app, you know, the one with the black background? However, I am seriously annoyed by the fact that when I receive a single new email, I get two notifications in the notifications bar; One from the gmail app and one from the stock/default email app.
How do I use this? It's required to set up a gmail account for marketplace to work. But I hate replicate notifications.
Do I just delete one entirely from the app folder?
Whats the best way to work along/around this?
You can turn off the Gmail apps notifications by delving into it's settings.
Go to gmail app, hit menu, go to more, select settings, uncheck Email Notifications. Gmail app will no longer notify you.
but if you just turn off the notification it will still be syncing in the background so if you dont want to use the gmail app go into accounts & sync and under your mail address uncheck sync gmail
the gmail app is used for just that, gmail. the email app is used to connected to exchange servers, pop3 accounts, imap accounts, basically any email that isnt gmail.

you get two notifications because you have set up your gmail account on Email app. Gmail app is way better than Email app (my opinion)
Option1: Delete gmail account from Email app and just use the Gmail app.
Option2: Go to Gmail app settings and disable notifications and use Email app (it will still be synchronizing).
Option3: Uninstall Gmail app and use Email app.

Agreed!
If only I could make my ActiveSync account (work Exchange) to use the Gmail app for mail display instead of Email.apk's viewer.
Personally I think the Gmail app sucks ****. Its so annoying to see the Gmail notification (like push email) and then only go into Mail to actually read it after hitting refresh.
Real cockup in my opinion, but then again I don't hold android in the highest light anyway.
I personally like the gmail app. I never need to press refresh. My push works great. I see the notification or the green trackball (color I set for gmail) then pull down menu and select the notification for Gmail and it loads that message right up.

That's pretty much wrong if I understand you correctly. If I get a notification from the Gmail app of a new mail, I press it and it's right there in my inbox without having to refresh it first.
I also like the Gmail app better than the built-in e-mail app.
The Gmail Push?
I have nexus one, it normally syncs every hour (i set it so)..
Why dont I get the push option? (my operator supports push mail)
If you use Gmail app - the push is automatic and the only way. You don't configure the sync time, because it has no such option.
If you use Email app for Gmail - check if you can set it to Automatic(Push) option (it's the topmost option on the list).
If you set Gmail as Exchange, it can push. If it's set as IMAP then it has to be set to poll.
Ok did that, and and yeh, its push.
Its a lil slow though (it gets a lil delayed).. but Im glad it works..

Email app came w/rooting - access Google contacts?

There is a really simple Email client app that seems to have appeared after rooting. How would one go about using Google Contacts to launch an email with this little app, all pre-addressed to the contact and ready to go?
When I attempted to let the Barnes and Nobles "Contacts" app sync with Google Contacts, it seems to have wanted to give B&N more access to my contacts that I would like. It also doesn't really look like B&N's contacts app really wants to play with anything else.
Unfortunately, what you are looking for is not working on the NC as of this writing. The only contacts, of any kind that can be sync'd over (and not using a 3rd party solution like Moxier or Touchdown) are gmail contacts. And those contacts just get dumped into the NC's contact apps, which is quite useless as the contacts just sit there. There is no way to pull a contact into into any email program, even gmail.
I see. Obviously everyone is pushing for all of us to use THEIR web-based services. I'm a bit surprised there isn't an independent address book app out there that can both sync with Google Contacts, and be capable of launching the default on-board email client with the recipient selected from the sync'd contacts.

[Q] Contact photo question, this is driving me INSANE

Hey y'all
Anyone know of a way to stop contact photos from syncing to my address book without disabling contact sync altogether?
I went through and deleted all the Contact Photos associated with the contacts in my address book. It took forever. Seriously. And 5 minutes later all my contacts had their photos re-synced back in to my address book..
I don't want to disable contact sync altogether because I do use it but how the hell do you get rid of their photos without them returning?!
THANKS!
AHH!
I think if you delete them off your device and from your Google account on a PC, you should be fine. Perhaps put your phone in airplane mode to be safe, delete photos. Log into gmail and be sure contact photos are deleted? Never tried, so I'm just guessing here.
Check the settings in Google + there is an option to keep contacts up to date or something like that.

Contacts - Merge Numbers and Emails, or get Message + to not display email addresses

I just wiped my phone for giggles, and now Message + is showing a lot more contacts than it used to. I've tried adjusting settings under the contacts app, but I haven't had any luck. Any way to merge contacts and emails in one fell swoop, or alternatively, just have Message + only display numbers and not email addresses?
