Brand new Hero - flash it to 2.27.651.5? - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all, I just got my new hero today, and it's got software 2.31.651.7; do I need to flash it back to 2.27.651.5 before I can root it and whatnot? Is the file to do that the second post of this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694572
what I need to use? I read in a topic on my search that it wasn't possible to downgrade by flashing when in Windows 7 (I've got 7 64bit), and something about a ZUP in stock recovery that I could use to flash? Could someone explain to me what to do or link me to a guide that will walk me through all of this that for-sure works with 2.31.651.7?
Thanks!

Some noob questions.

Hey friends.
I have some questions which i can't seem to find the answer to.
1. what's all that deal with SPL? what exactly is that and why do i need to flash it before flashing the radio version? what do i have to watch out from in order to not bricking my phone?
2. I wanted to flash a radio version from ERE36B that was posted on modaco site.
I downloaded the zip, copied to the sdcard, flashed it using the amonra 1.7 recovery. it said that it was successfully flashed but the radio version hadn't changed. what did i do wrong? I wanted to flash using fastboot but there were no .img files posted. only after extracting the zip files there is an img file inside along with some other files that may be important.
3. why are there different versions of superboot for each build? I mean, after I used superboot once and rooted my phone - I won't have to use it ever again.
no?
many thanks and sorry for the long post.
1. SPL stands for Second Program Loader. but you wont have to worry about it on the Nexus One. Its a different story for the G1.
2. If flashing the radio is successful then your baseband should be 4.04.00.03_2. And you might already had that radio if you just recently bought your phone.
3. Superboot version is not different. As long as you flash a rooted version of the rom then you will still retain root. But if you flash back to a stock rom, then you'll lose root. So always use nandroid to backup.
Thanks for the answer
So what exactly are the risks ?
is it possible to brick the nexus one or it's completely impossible?
10x!

[Q] Super Noob; Help wanted :(

So I recieved a T-mobile G1 recently, and I wasnt satisfied with the stock rom. Before this phone, I had an htc aria and on this same site I was able to install the cyanogen rom on it, more or less with ease, but even with following all the guides on the forums, I havnt been able to flash a custom onto the phone.
Here what I have done so far:
I got the phone with the DMD64 build version so using the wiki I was able to get it to rc28 (or 29 im not sure I dont remember)
Then following this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442480 I think I rooted the phone along with installing the hardspl and update.zip
after I did that i flashed this rom? http://andblogs.net/2009/01/jesusfrekes-14-images-are-out/
After that, I downloaded cyanogen magpie cm7, renamed it to update.zip and tried to flash it, but on the recovery menu it said it could find the install script.
right now heres the info on the phone:
Firmware: 1.0
baseband: 62.33.20.08u_1.22.12.29
kernal:
2.6.25-01843-gfea26b0 [email protected] #1
build number:
kila_uk-user 1.0 tc5-rc8 116470 ota-rel-keys,release-keys
If some one could tell me how to flash the custom rom and what the radio stuff means or if you could just send me to a forum with everything already answered for me that would be greatly appreciated
(I've used the search bar and everything )

[Q] Need help, super noob for flashing etc

Hi guys,
Long story short, I came across an awesome app, in order to use it you had to install a different kernal and root the phone. I know nothing about this but, my buddy supposedly could do this "no problem." So, long story short, it didn't work, he flashed my ATT Captivate and reinstalled Android 2.1 for the Vibrant!! Uggghhh! So, I've been reading here and there, wanting to fix this myself. I have downloaded the latest android OS, I have odin. Am I correct in assuming that all I need to do in flash the phone and install the new OS and I'm good to go? Is there anything else I need to do or should know? Thank you very much for any help!
Do you know how to get into download mode? you best bet would be to flash gingerbread boatloader and rom...read this thread for easy instructions

[Q] Invalid software package when trying to update my phone

Hi guys!
I noticed today that there were a system update for my optimus 2x.
But after it downloaded it said validating software package and returned an error stating that the package was invalid..
Has anyone else bumped into this problem? Is it because my phone is rooted?
It is otherwise stock.
Thank you so much for your help!

Okay.
So can i ask how do i unroot the phone using CWM?
I looked at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1021554&page=2
it talks about installing a recovery.zip using CWM, but will it unroot the phone or not?
Thanks!
The name says it all and it is sticky in dev section...

Hi and thanks for the answer!
you see, my phone is already rooted. I need to unroot it in order to get the latest update from LG installed on my phone.
The reason for this is that when i download the update OTA and try to install it, i get an error message stating that i have a invalid software package.
And the reason for this as i understand, is that the phone is rooted.
i have read the roll up thread you linked to, but it does not state anywhere how to unroot the phone. And thats what i need help to do
Use smartflash and put some older version on it, then update it to current version. It will be unrooted.
Thank you for the answer, will try that!
But im struggling a bit to find the older versions though. The links to them are either down or broken. I need the EUR version.
You can flash stock v20q via cwm. If you said that your phone is rooted, install cwm and then flash this stock v20q.
If you want to downgrade, then update using lg update tool, you need smartflash and some older firmware like Euro v10d.
You need to read and search, really, all is here on the site.
At least press the thanks button if my posts are helping you, it is right here.
Thank you for the reply.
I will flash with the v20q one you mentioned. Its the version im trying to upgrade to anyway, så this seems better instead of downgrading it to stock, then upgrading using OTA!
