I got the red ring of death. Well it was my friends console that he gave to me. I didn't check the warrenty on the dam thing and fixed it myself, then got e73 and back to the red ring. I made it look like I didn't open it with the silver tape, but the metal casing and some of the screws were drilled out by me. Do you think I still have a fighting chance at microsoft still fixing the thing? Im sending it out tonight too.
Those Microsoft guys are pretty sneaky...
they gonna charge u $200 for a new mobo and wont send it back till u pay for it
Your best bet, is to buy the part and fix it yourself. Chances are if it's an older model, there's no warranty and you have to pay for them just to put on a new clamp. My first one they wanted $100, I said screw it and just bought a new arcade.

Dude, screw those a$$holes. They better fix it. Im sorry but I hate faulty crap. If its broken don't bother selling it. I know I opened it, but he'll I wouldn't have to if they did it right in the first place. And believe me I tried the stupid x clamp mods but nothing workex

Funny, I've done one for a buddy of mine and it works just fine.
If you open it up, you void your warranty. That's what the warranty seal is for, and you agree to that once you purchase the console, and if you want the warranty, you have to sign up for it. If you don't, they don't know when you bought it. They have done an amazing job at replacing the consoles, 3 year warranty on a console is pretty good. If it's out of warranty, it's because of one of these reasons.
1.You bought a launch console, which is about the only one right now out of warranty since it's past the 3 year mark. These launch consoles also have a 100% chance of failure, so it's hard to believe there's one that someone seriously plays on and has had no issues with.
2.You never registered the warranty in time, your fault.
You have alternatives to fix it.
1.Call microsoft, they fix it for $100.
2.Replace it with a refurbished Gamestop Xbox 360 that comes with the new clamp that keeps the ball joints in place.
3.Buy a new Xbox, arcades are cheap.
4.Buy an xclamp for it.
If you opened your xbox and EXPECT support still, you're dumb.

Oh I do. I know about those safety seals, hence why I put then back so it looks like I never opened it up. Only place thell get me at is the screws at the metal chasis..... and I don't want to buy another. That my last resort.
If you opened the Xbox at all, the seal is designed to leave some kind of residue on the xbox. If they refuse support, you've only got yourself the blame for that. Should they not have these kinds of issues? No, not at all. But you broke the rules for support, not their fault.
Anyone wanna buy an Xbox?

You saying you opened the seal and put it on like nothing happened is impossible, that's what I'm saying. Like I said, fix it with an Xclamp, buy a new or refurb, or send it in for $100. You ****ed your chances yourself for any type of support.

I've been using the Tilt since late January and have treated the thing like a king....but today it died. The guy at the AT&T corporate store said it was a battery problem...so he replaced it and it worked for like an hour. He now says that the phone is defective.
He is having a new one sent to me and it will be here in 5 days and when I get the new one I don't want it anymore........I will gladly sell the thing for $250 plus shipping. If any of you want a spare or know someone who would like one please let me know. I bought another phone while at the phone store so if nobody buys it from me I'm throwing it in the trash.
Sorry to hear about you problems with the Tilt..... What are you going to replace it with?
Well, that's a completely stupid & ignorant statement.
If you're willing to throw it away, why not donate it to one of those charities that supplies phones to domestic violence victims.
Or to one of the masters of XDA, preferably in another forum to steal away another bright mind to come to Kaiser, or to someone working on porting drivers.

This will be the third Tilt I've received and I'm tired of this poorly designed phone, so think of it this way. Getting a few bucks out of the phone will help me recoup some of the money I've lost, but donating the phone to a charity is idiotic because it's not nice to give something that's essentially broken by design. If I give it to a developer here I'm out even more money on shipping, and I'll never hear the end of it for *donating a defective phone. I'll just be asked why did I bother it's just junk. Making the transfer a financial transaction I can make the other party responsible for their actions by full disclosure.

Nope, read 1st post.
i found website that might help you want to throw away a tilt http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/youare
after seeing quite a number of posts about dead tilts...often with it being the 2nd, or even 3rd+ tilt that has died...
i'm wondering if perhaps some of these issues are related to voltage regulation.
in other words, maybe the tilts are getting fried due to over/under voltage issues...whether it be from bad a/c at the house, or from the laptop usb port (i know when i plug my tilt into one specific computer i can "feel" the electricity in the buttons...that can't be good)...or from starting the car with the tilt in the cigarette lighter (i wouldn't ever advise that), or just from a faulty charger.
over time any of the above issues could kill any electronic device.
maybe the tilt is just more sensitive to voltage issues than other phones.... and so when one tilt is replaced, the next one dies too...because the same over/under voltage problem is still present. ...just a thought...i haven't experienced any problems with my tilt...yet
...but i have had pieces of electrical equipment die or malfunction due to voltage problems.

I live in Columbus Ohio and I take all my electronics to the local DIY store as they do recycling there and not at the community I live in. Saying I'm going to throw it in the *trash is my way of saying I'm going to get rid of it with other similar junk people don't want anymore.
In fact I must take all my electronics to a recycling place because my community will fine me big time if I take it to the dumpster that they rent.
I'm from MI and they do far less recycling there so when I was a kid basically anything that had lost it's use was *trashed, even if it went to a recycle bin somewhere.

My first Tilt went crazy on me around day 2-3 when it just started to jumble all the characters on the screen and redraw images in random pixelated blocks of ****. So I took it to the store I got it from and they verified that it was a crazy phone and gave a me a new one on the spot.

Ok guys, I need a bunch of good opinions real fast like. I'm shopping for a new tilt online. Yea, I'd love to buy a REAL TYTN II but I don't have that kind of money to throw around right now. I figure that you are paying more for a name, some different paint, a camera and that's about it. So an att tilt will just have to do. I can always flash the firmware to the latest htc spec. So, with all that in mind I need to know what I should do. I've been looking on ebay and they have used tilts for around 250-350 dollars. They are all in good condition... they say, and come with everything. I'm thinking about buying one of these "slightly used" ones, assuming they really are just that. OR I can buy a brand new tilt, fresh out of the box for around 400-450 dollars and know that no one else has touched it. Money is kinda tight, but I don't want this breaking on me either, it's got to last a long while. New or used? Appreciate it. SPACE
1) Line breaks are your friend.
2) If you are going to buy used, just make sure you get some kind of warranty to cover you in the event of hardware failure. Squaretrade sells warranty that cover everything short of losing your device, and AT&T offers insurance for $5/mo that will replace lost/stolen devices. Of course you need to be an AT&T customer for that last option.
AT&T is also selling refurb Tilts for $149 right now, but that requires a 2 year contract.
I just love these threads. Why should I buy "x"? The UTLIMATE reason to buy ANYTHING is because "YOU WANT TO!"
If you look at the price, specs, and reviews and it doesn't give you a boner, then you probably will not be satisfied with it. But if looking at the information gets you excited, then you should buy it.
Anything Treo, Myself, or anyone else says is secondary. Only you can look at something and know that is what you want.
jimmy is that post stuck on your clipboard right now? SPDT(same post different thread) the only difference is the name on the last line.
btw i think that is the greatest quote ever
"If you look at the price, specs, and reviews and it doesn't give you a boner, then you probably will not be satisfied with it."
to the op, don't do a refurbished phone with att, my original stopped working and they have sent 5 to me, 3 with broken USB ports, 1 broken screen, and one without a working radio, plus that last one wasn't recognized by my comp if it was in bootloader
I think you should buy both...used and new... and then see which one you like better. Which ever one you do not like, put in in a blender and make a video of it being shreaded and then upload it to YouTube and then we can all watch it. FANTASTIC! THANKS FOR THE THREAD!

Same here, with only a few exceptions. Phones however, must be new and free of anyone else's "cooties" before I stick it up to my ear.
NEW NEW NEW, the one year warranty is priceless to me.
alright well I'm probably going to buy a new one but I'm not going to buy it from the att store. 500+ is too much for something that is going to drop in price asap. I'll buy a new one in the box off ebay unless you guys know where I can get one cheaper.
I returned my Nook and got a new one and was amazed at how much better the screen is. Mine had a slight bleed at the bottom I wasn't sure if that was all of them or not.
Anyways aside from the bleed gone, the screen is much more vibrant and clear. Just an fyi if anyone has a weird screen don't settle!
Cool, mine has a dead pixel that appeared only 2 days after I purchased it - I've been debating whether or not it's worth the time to reflash back to stock, etc... etc... and exchange it. I think I will.
My first nook had white splotches on the screen. I took it back to the store and the guy wouldn't exchange it. As soon as I told him I wanted my money back he changed his mind and gave me another one. He was a ****.
Then, after a week, the nook started creaking and squeaking all around the bezel. I called to get it exchanged. They said I had to go into the store. I went into the store. They said I had to do it online or on the phone. I called on the phone and argued with some lady for 30 minutes after which she told me that if I sent my current nook back and they didn't think anything was wrong with it, they'd charge me $250. I hung up and called right back and got a woman who was ok and told me the other lady was an idiot. Thanks guys.
I received my third nook in the mail. The A/C charger jack was broken. I couldn't put the jack in. So i called to get this replaced and argued with some guys in India for an hour and finally got a replacement.
I'm on my 4th nook. Barnes and Noble sucks and I will never buy another electronic device from them again.
Yeah I was not impressed with their phone support either. All these companies not only outsourcing to India but only allowing the support person to use scripted conversation is even worse.
I called to deregister a device since I forgot to deregister before returning a NC and the lady was an idiot reading from a script she didn't even understand.
Roku is another horrible company for India scripted phone support.
Unfortunaley India gets beat up a lot by Americans for this when it might not be so bad if the scripts were taken away and they just hired smarter people.
I got mine at best buy, and getting it replaced for the phantom ghost tap issue was easy as pie. The new one works great. The girl at the counter was kinda cute too, so it was like win-win!

My wife and I both got a NC, same store, about a month apart. Both of ours work perfectly.
Don't assume because you had 2 problematic NC's doesn't mean everyone has, or that overall quality is bad. (Yes, I said 2.)
The only issue with my screen is some binding/pinching where the bezel meets the LCD which causes slight bright spots at the bottom edge. I've seen this same issue with lower quality LCD monitors. Otherwise pleased with screen quality. Having worked in electronics manufacturing, I came to learn how variable quality control can be with some manufacturers.
Best Buy has one month reuturns but after that your screwed unless u buy insurance. my 1st NC ate an 8 gig microUSB and started bleeding by the vol. B&N took sent another straight away with postage paid for the return. NO PROB and they do have a vibrant screen from all angles.
a case would keep your nook safe from most screen probs, and be shure to line up your mcards.

I did buy the insurance, but didn't have to use it even though it was something like 45 days or more after I bought it. I brought it in planning to use the insurance (which is a one time shot apparently), but she told me they could just do it as a warranty exchange since it was so new. I'm not really sure how long they extend it for, but I was happy.

Wow, yeah, my post was just soooo long.
If you read it, it said I had three bad nooks (Yes, I said 3). I never said everyone has bad ones. I said I won't buy from them again because their support sucks and their products are defective.
Maybe next time you comment on a post, read it first.
My first NC was defective. It had a bad accelerometer and/or a bad power button. Essentially, if you set it down occasionally it would act as if you pressed and held the power button and then tapped OK to shut down the tablet.
Here's a vid I took of it to convince the BN store staff I wasn't going nuts:
YOUTUBE DOT COM/watch?v=Zfit4oG4WaA
I'd bought the extended warranty but this happened within the first week of ownership. I talked to the manager of the store where I bought it and she swapped it for a new one and applied the warranty to NC #2. I'd heard the phone support was horrible, so made it a point to buy it locally. I'm glad I did.
I'm loving my new one. I'm going to Hawaii in a week and, for the first time in my life, will be travelling without a laptop. All I'm taking is my NC and a BT keyboard for it.
Are you sure you had a problem? Because khaytsus bought one for himself and his wife and didn't have any issues LOL
Wow, good thing the store owner was helpful. The guy on staff at my local BN refused to do anything and said all returns or exchanges definitely needed to go through the website.
I'm still not happy with my current Nook. The panel below the "N" button is depressed on both sides. But I'm sticking with it for now.
Backlight bleeding is pretty much the norm for any LCD screen. I've seen it on desktop monitors, TVs, laptops, tablets...etc. It will exist on even on the top of the line models and "best" brands.
If you just have only some slight backlight bleeding, I would discourage you from trying to exchange it. You're likely to get something worse like dead pixels.
I spent half an hour one the support line a second ago because my USB cable fried. The lady tried to have me enter my credit card number for some reason so I could buy "NOOKBooks". I argued with her for about 5 minutes and then she told me all I need to enter is my shipping address. She said that they would mail the replacement cable free of charge in 24 to 48 hours.
I didn't spend anytime on hold even though the automated message said that they are flooded with tech support calls.

Smarter people ask for a lot of money (if they are paying more money then whats the point of outsourcing) even in India only those who can't really find another job for themselves take up job's in call center's.
well I just returned my nook with a transformer incoming... i sure hope it has as good of a screen or ill prob end up another nook. lol
So I ordered a silver HTC one. Got black. I know Amazon issue right. So I stuck it out until the end of the return widow. Because I didn't want to be with a phone over a color. So eventually I did the exchange. The new HTC one I got now has bleeding of the buttons backlight on the bottom right hand corner. Now Amazon does not want anything to do with the phone. So now I have no choice but to send it into HTC for a repair. I have to pay for shipping and be without a phone again for at least 2 weeks. Now the last time HTC has fixed something for me they forced me to buy a new phone! They had replaced the motherboard and did a "IMEI transfer" and the IMEI could never be activated. HTC said it wasn't in sprint database. Sprint said the phone was broken. Both of them didn't want anything to do with me. So although I know Im not getting a new mother board, I'm scared of sending this in. Not only that I don't want to pay for shipping and be without a phone. Just a little rant I guess. So I don't know what i'm going to do.

Don't send it in unless it is a major problem. I would have just stuck with the black that was fine except the color. When you exchange you never know what you might get. I don't know how bad the led bleed is, but ones I've seen are not so bad I would ever return one.
Good luck.

Yeah, I might wait a while. For how small it is. It's very annoying watching videos in darkness. I got to say though silver is much better than black. I had fingerprints all over the back. If you PAID money for your device, you are ENTITLED to a perfectly functioning, as advertised product. If HTC screws up, they will pay for shipping until they get it right (except the first time). So keep at it. Plus, why would you buy from amazon? The HTC website has it for a similar price, I'm sure.

Let them know that you are paying insurance for the device, but that you have not broken nor damaged any part of the phone, that this is how the phone has come, and that many other users have had the SAME problems you are facing, and they have been treated with respect and diligence. Sprint is top-notch at customer support, but sometimes local stores are assholes. One 19 year old kid (no offense to 19 y/os) thought he could treat me like **** cuz his name tag said 'manager'. He said since my phone was rooted he could not and would not assist me with an Evo 4G LTE hardware issue. I kindly informed him that Sprint corporate policy dictates that a rooted phone must be treated as any other phone. It will also be subject to a stock software 'update'. He said: "I am the manager, and I don't want my store helping people that root their phones". Called corporate on his rude ass, where they linked me to said policy, so I could print it. I went the next day, with key parts highlighted for him... He thanked me [sarcastically] for my phone call, and said he now had to deal with his write-up. Oh and he handed me a new phone which was shipped next-day for me
Long story short, Sprint takes care of their customers... But there is always one guy or another that just wants to be an ass. Speak with someone at corporate, maybe ask for a supervisor when you they answer. Let them know that you are being wronged. You will be helped. Oh and don't forget to say you wanted silver.
My HTC One is clean, beautiful, and 0 flaws, no light leakage, no recessed buttons, no screen popping out. But fortunately this was just luck; it's my first One

You must not be American. /jk

Well I think I made progress They said they are "escalating" it. It wasn't fun or easy. But they are much nicer.

Good luck! No one should have to suffer through build quality issues. Point period.
@Dogie52
So what was the outcome?
Thisis why I won't order my phone's through a third party online. I will order online but only from places I can physically return them to like sprint online or bestbuy online. Most times my phone's r fine but if I do have a problem I don't want to go through the waiting process.

I think you should contact Google's customer assistant for it. As far as I know Google provide a Free Replacement of the device within a year except any physical damage. I might wrong but nothing harms to give it a try And best of luck in replacing your device
Correct except they will replace for any reason in first year, including water or physical damage.
Thanks for the replys guys,i already got in touch with them and they made the ticket and everything but i am pretty much screwed anyway cause they put a temporary hold on funds in my account for the new device they send me until they receive the defective one.And i dont have the moneybfor it right now so preety much a wasted rma ticket.i will try and see if they let me send them the defective one first and then they send me the new one,so the whole funds freezing can be avoided.I hope they allow it.

Really?!
Wow, glad I didn't get it from MOT.
Then again I've yet to dunk or shatter a phone.
(My desk here is Mahogany, knocking away, so no worries!)

It's not advertised, but yeah, that's supposedly been the trend. I've heard it's limited to 1 device. It's something they did with the Nexus 5 as well.
