Hi,
I was going to get HD2, to use with our T-Mobile $5.99 unlimit data plan.
During research found HD7 and wondering if I can use Hd7 with that plan.
thanks

No. You will be forced to upgrade to the $30 data plan with either the HD7 or the HD7
If you buy the phone cash with no upgrade or anything you can use the 5.99 unlimited plan with no problems.

Highly doubt it as they (T-Mobile) can tell what device you have by the IMEI # if it's a T-Mobile device, which you need to get their 3G Hardware.

You can buy the phone from anybody but t-mobile and use it on T-mobile's network.
My wife has the old t-zones plan and is using the phone currently with NO issues at all.
T-mobile never cares about your data plan as long as you're not signing a contract with them for THAT phone. You can use ANY phone you want on t-mobile as long as the phone will take the sim card. So yes, the 5.99 plan will work with a HD7 bought outside of t-mobile.
Hey i remember asking this question a while back about my galaxy Tab but i guess i'm hoping theres been some developments since then. I'm trying to use the Sim card from my smartphone with my streak 7 but it seems tmobile has put some kind of weird block on using phone sim cards with the Tabs, probably to force you to have to buy a separate plan for the Tablets all together. I'm wondering if a workaround has been developed for this and if theres is a way to use my smartphone Sim in a tmobile tablet. thanks for the help
dont know if this helps.
I tried the tmobile sim from my touchpro2 with $10 web2go in tmobile's dell streak 7. I got the 4G connection.

thatd be cool but ive got the $30 smartphone plan so im trying to figure out a way to trick the phone into thinking its not a tmobile sim or get rid of that connection to tmobile all together.
Have you tried changing your APN to internet2.voicestream.com?

Have you asked T-Mobile to 'fix your connection'? I've done the same with my carrier and switch between my phone and tablet to use the data all the time, but then again my streak 7 is carrier unlocked and so is my phone.

i think this is specific to tmobile tablets in the states, and im not sure there is an unlocked tablet that is tmobile 4g compatible, which is what im after, i wanted to get the lg G tablet but it looks like you have to either use a sim for a phone or tablet, not interchangeable
Hey,
So I'm leaving for the Good'Ol USA tomorow. (Oregon, specifically) for 10 days.. and my family and I would like to have some sort of cell phone to use while down there.
Now, I have an unlocked Samsung Infuse..
Can I buy an AT&T PrePaid (Pay as you go) SIM card, and just pop it in my Infuse while we're down there? Or will AT&T recognize it as a smartphone, and try and charge me for a full month's service, on some kind of expensive plan?
I honestly have no idea how these things work.. if someone could shed some light that would be awesome!
You will be fine so long as your Infuse isn't an AT&T branded one. I use foreign phones here on AT&T to get past the anemic smartphone plan.
Hey Dylan. I think you can get prepaid SIMs for voice but not sure about how much data costs on their prepaid plans. You should be able to pick up a prepaid phone with SIM at one of the bigbox stores like Walmart.

Bring a couple Bell Sensations or Rogers GS IIs when you come over.

Thanks for the reply Mike!
Ok, so I probably won't be able to use my AT&T branded Infuse? Because it will be recognized by AT&T as a smartphone?
I'll probably just get a prepaid phone, then buy prepaid minutes. I'm not looking for data or anything, just simple voice to make a few calls back to Canada.
Oh, and I would if I could! Lol, I haven't seen anything good show up locally! and I think you mean Bell Samsung Galaxy S2!, not Rogers!
Ah, Bell is getting lucky these days! The Sensation and the GSII! That's insane.. but I guess Rogers is getting the EVO 3D and the Optimus 3D.
What about T-Mobile Pay as you go? Has always worked well for me. Or perhaps your phone does not support the T-Mobile bands...
I am due for an upgrade from my old Rhodium.
If I buy the Vivid will AT&T force any changes to my existing $15/month data plan due to the LTE feature?
My understanding is that LTE can not be turned off is this true?
In a non LTE area (SoCal) would the phone just connect at a lower speed and consume less battery?
Does this phone need a new sim card and would that be for my cost?
Sorry for the newb questions.
There might be a chance that you could keep your plan, but the MediaMax isn't really for smartphones. The best chance of keeping your plan is to do your upgrade through the website so that no one will review your account, because once someone checks it and changes it for you, there is no turning back even if you speak to a supervisor.
Samsat, you tried it yet? Did it let you use MediaMax with the Vivid or AT&T detected the IMEI and switched you to a smartphone data plan?
Actually LTE is running in many parts of Socal

Unfortunately those old media data plans that att/Cingular offered years back will not be grandfathered to New smartphone unlimited plans. You'd have to.choose between the three that are currently offered (200mb, 2gb, 4gb)
Also, an LTE data plan and LTE compatible SIM card are required for data to work at all on the LTE devices. Not even a hspa+ data plan would work

I went thru this too just get the phone don't do anything go to a att store tell the clerk what you wanna do as in keeping the unlimited but switching it to the LTE and he or she will fix u up I'm running LTE and still have my unlimited
Sorry I miss read the question no it should not
so what would happen if I take an AT&T sim card out of a 3g dumb phone and put it into a HTC vivid?
-Sim card won't be recognized?
-Sim card recognized but data won't work?
-Or data (EDGE/3g/LTE) works but it detected IMEI and require upgrade to a smartphone data plan?

ATT sim out of any phone without the LTE plan won't work. I went from the SGS2 to the Vivid and my data didn't work till they added the LTE plan. You also need the Visual Voicemail added too. I went back to a SGS2, but haven't tried putting the sim back in the Vivid yet though.

THAT is not true.
The vivid will get data with the old Sim. HSPA+ in fact. But it won't get LTE.
The skyrocket will get no data.
I saw proof of this, this week when a coworker with a vivid could not understand why my vivid had LTE and his did not... He went to the AT&T store and they realized he had a non LTE Sim.

AT&T 3g data plan will be a problem.
The Sim should work, but you will start getting "hate texts"from AT&T telling you that you need a 4g data plan because they will see the hspa data transfer.
There is actually no difference in the plans and I had no issue getting hspa, but I think it's a mechanism so AT&T can catch people who are trying to do exactly what is being suggested here.
This happened to me when I went from my Dell streak to the sgs2

Thanks for the replies.
With all the Vivid hate speech (locked bootloader, CIQ, whose returning etc.) going on I still have not done an upgrade.
ATT told me though that the phone comes with a new sim card in the box. I have an existing 200MB data plan which I plan to continue if and when I get the Vivid.
Hopefully the dust will settle soon and I can then decide which phone to get (definitely not Iphone) but maybe Skyrocket, Vivid, Nitro or something else.
No it will not work on hspa without the LTE plan. I've done this a million times for people

works for me and I'm on a blackberry plan, just added a differant apn to the phone and clicked the radio button, on hspa+ here.
What if I buy the Canadian Bell version of the phone "HTC Raider" it has all the necessary bands, I just wonder if the imei number will be the same as the Vivid. If it's not the same, I'm pretty sure I can at least get 3G without changing data plans. I'm on the old ATT unlimited medianet plan. Can anyone confirm if the Imei is the same?

The IMEI is unique in each device is like a serial number of the phone itself, but to answer your question the IMEI number of the Canadian bell HTC Raider won't show up in their system as a valid HTC VIVID and you won't be able to have an LTE data plan unless you get an IMEI from someone else HTC VIVID and give it to them by phone so the could put the LTE plan on your account, but in the other hand you might get away with the medianet data plan!!!

I went from the Tilt 2 (Rhodium) to the vivid and am loving the phone. I had an unlimited data plan and I live in an non-lte area. I didn't have to change my plan and they upgraded my sim card no issue.

I had the same results, though LTE is not available in my area I was allowed to keep my unlimited data plan but given an LTE sim and LTE access. My store representative told me they will not be pushing unlimited customers to tiered plans for LTE.
I do not necessarily believe him hence why I took an early upgrade and paid more for my phone.
My advice is to talk to the representative first and hope an an LTE phone immediately if they go with your request.
Before I got my Vivid, I had an iPhone 3GS. I have the Unlimited Data plan, which I get to keep since I was grandfathered in. When I did the upgrade, the AT&T rep had to change my data plan from an "iPhone Unlimited Plan" to a "4G LTE Unlimited Plan" He also had to change my Voicemail plan from "iPhone Visual Voicemail" to the AT&T visual voicemail system. The 4G Unlimited Plan exist, but its only for those people who upgrade from a smartphone such as an iPhone to a 4G phone and are grandfathered in to unlimited data. Also, I think an AT&T rep actually has to do the switch, I dont think its something you can do online, although I haven't tried so I'm not really sure about that one.
Well I tried my $30/mo voice/data prepaid sim in my new streak and the web browser only brings be back to a my-tmobile page. (SMS does work)
Any way I can get this working?
Call TMobile and get your plan sorted out

Anyone have a suggestion that is actually helpful and not quite so gratuitous? Would be greatly appreciated! Not sure if this can be possible, but would like to be able to switch my sim from the HD2 to the Streak and back again as needed.
The fellow at the TMobile store said it needs to be a SIM card turned on as "Broadband", which appears to be true since the same thing happened to me when I put my postpaid SIM in from my cell phone. Ended up getting a $25/month prepaid broadband plan at the store until I find another way. I was able to get an unlock code from Dell, I'll try my wife's Straight-Talk (AT&T) unlimited SIM when I get a chance.
For me it was as easy as inserting my Simple Mobile $60 prepaid sim card from my phone into my dell streak while it was on (i did not shut off and reboot i just inserted while it was on and it said new sim found rebooting please wait). As soon as it rebooted 3G/4G work perfect FYI Simple Mobile uses T-mobiles Network I pay $60 for unlimited talk/txt and 2gb of data..no contract no BS,luv it..

Right, that's the most exasperating thing- I can use my StraightTalk unlimited SIM just fine. (AT&T network on that SIM) But it won't allow a TMobile SIM unless it's a "broadband" SIM. TMobile jumping through hoops to enforce silly rules...

FYI - Walmart's Family Talk SIM works fine in this, but the $30 sim does not. Of course, the family talk is priced higher and has lousy data. I believe they block tablets from the $30 plan, most likely via the IMEI.
I also assume the AT&T sim you're using isn't getting you 3G or 4G since it's a different radio.
