[Q] Exchange Support - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just got my galaxy s i9000m back from repair, with JL2 (2.2) installed on it.
Im trying to set up my work exchange email, but it gives me the unable to connect to server message. i was able to get it to work in Touchdown, but that is only a 30 day trial. I did a bit of googling and someone said its a bug that was fixed in 2.2.1
anyone else encountering this?
Thanks

Im able to connect to Exchange 2010 and can sync my contacts and email... calendar wont sync. Samsung said it would be fixed in the next update... no eta. Im on JL2.

FRF91 + Exchange

Is anyone success to sync FRF91 with exchange?
for some reason i can't... i tryed some FRF91 roms and with all of them connection fail, and when i'm downgrade rom it's works fine...
Wrong section.
I'm using FRF91 with www.outlook.com ([email protected]) exchange solution no probleme all sync good.
Maybe you need to wipe
I have stock FRF91 and configured to synchronize with Exchange 2010 - no problems with synchronization there. Contacts, mail and calendar sync.
At what point in the process of setting the parameters of Exchange you go wrong?
Maybe you have a problem with SSL?
i have the same problem. it's definitely a certificate issue on exchange 2007. FRF91 broke the "accept all certificates" action, which is incredibly annoying.
Hi,
i don't know if this can help, but I noticed that passing from Eclair to FroYo, to make exchange sync work, I changed the server address from owa.xxxx.xx to owas.xxxx.xx . I leave checked both the options about security and SSL.
Let me know if it helps.
Bye
I met the same problem to sync MS Exchange Activesync account...
But under 2.1, it's ok.
I also have the problem connecting to exchange to sync my email on Froyo 2.2. This problem has caused me fall back to use 2.1. I am still looking for solution everywhere but seems like no one know the root cause why certain people can't sync their exchange after switch to Froyo.

The problem lies in libssl.so in Froyo (and libnativehelper.so for a sudo-related issue) - Google has identified the issue and has released code to fix it, but will be waiting for a 'future release' to deal with it.
There's a bug report on the CM issue tracker that outlines it. I posted the links to the relevant code bits there, and it looks like the fix will be integrated in to CM6 (although the current RC build and latest nightly builds still have the issue). Details can be found here: http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/issues/detail?id=1780
Doe anyone know if its possible to search the GAL - When using exchange for addressing - it only seems to search the GAL for email addresses - I'd like to be able to do this for phone numbers - and other dept information. Any ideas how I can do this?

Exchange Email No Longer Working

I just updated to JI6 Froyo (Cognition) and now I am unable to connect to my corporate email account. I get a warning message that states my phone does not support security policies. Not sure what's changed from the 2.1 to 2.2, but I do know my Corporate email does indeed work with 2.1 eclair. One thing to note is that my corporate email requires a 4 digit lock pin, perhaps this is whats causing the issue?
Can anyone provide any insight into what changes were made to the email client in 2.2 Froyo, and why exchange email is no longer supported (in this particular instance)?
Thanks in advance.

You should try to delete the email client and install the cyanogen one. I think that'd what sherpa did for his ''rom''
Yay no more fc
I'm pretty new to Android (Blackberry and WinMO power user). I'm assuming I would need to remove the client via ADB commands? I feel like its probably better just to wait for CM6.1 to get ported to the captivate.
Have you tried beta 5.5? I just installed and it has a new email client. It has fixed the forward/reply issues for me. May solve your issues too.

Eclair never really supported security policies. Froyo does. You should set the PIN then readd the account and it should start working.
Or just break down and get touchdown. So much better than the stock client. Especially from an enterprise exchange admin point of view.

[Q] JPP - Can't sync exchange calendar

After my update to Froyo JPP with Kies I can't sync my calendar with exchange anymore. Exchange Mail works fine. I do not get any error while syncing but no date or meeting apears on my SGS, before JPP with JP6 everything works fine.
After creating a date/meeting on my SGS this syncs once to my Outlook and then it disapears again. Very strange!
Any advise?
Ralf
Probably not related but I got a warning from android that my IT department needed to confirm that security setup was OK. I never saw this in Eclair.
Coincidence? Maybe. Helpful? You tell me.
I did go back to JF3 setup exchange - everything worked - again and then I updated with Odin to Jpp without re-partition. Now it's working.

Another problem - with the free Hotmail exchange I can't view HTML emails.
In fact the iPhone is the only phone that can, not even Windows Mobile can.

[Q] Cognition Froyo 2.2 - Exchange Email not working

Just went to Cognition 2.3b8 (froyo), mostly because I dont know any better and that appeared to be the most bug-free Froyo ROM for Captivate.
Anyway, I'm pretty happy with it so far, except that I cannot get Exchange email setup for work. I enter the same settings that I used in Eclair, but get the following error:
"Setup Could Not Finish. Unable to connect server".
The fully thing about that is, if I change my username or password to be wrong, I get an "incorrect username/password" error, which tells me that it is actually connecting to the server but something more subtle is wrong.
We do use Exchange 10 at work and I did attempt the solution posed by this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=821297
Nothing....same problem. Anybody else have experience with this? Any fix or suggestions floating around?
Thx!
Nick
I had the same problem. I ended up using "Improved Email" from the market - it looks a lot like the stock email app but has a few enhancements (and is free). Turned out (I think) that my corporate exchange server needed security settings that stock email didn't have (and acknowledged as such). Try that app or check out one of the other email apps if you prefer.
FYI - from my research I think this is a known issue with 2.2 and was fixed with 2.2.1.

Good to know - thx for the info Now I need to find a good basic 2.2.1 rom that isnt hacked to heck. Thats another post about that tho
Tried "Improved Email" but it didnt work either. Totally stumped our IT guys until I admitted it wasn't the standard Captivate ROM. They suggested I tried a program called Touchdown. It works but looks like total crap.
Oh well
I had a same problem when I flashed w/ Darky... I reflashed it and set up the email before I Ti restore... When Ti back up, unselect email restore... It works fine now... f
Just flashed to cog 3.0 and everything is working!
Slightly different exchange issue
I also recently took the plunge and flashed Cognition 2.3b8 (using the ODIN, one-click-download, master clear, ROM manager method). When setting up Exchange afterwards, I get the following error when trying to connect to the server:
Steup could not finish. This server requires security features your phone does not support.
Same result when trying to use the "Improved Email" app. I just re-flashed back to stock with ODIN and then installed Cognition 3.04, and I got the same error message when trying to connect to the Exchange Server with the stock app.
I know it's not the login credential--if I change them around I get a different error message telling me that I am using the incorrect username/password combination. I have also tried to set up the Exchange account before and after doing the Ti restore.
Has anyone else seen this particular error message with the Cog ROMs? Thanks in advance.
Hello,
There hasn't been a lot of action on this thread recently, but I just fixed my issue and I wanted to post it for people's reference.
Some background. Since the last post, I updated to Cog 3.04 and fixed my Android ID, both in the hopes of fixing the Exchange issue. They did not. At the suggestion of a friend, I tried installing Touchdown, a third party mail app made specifically to work with MS Exchange. It was in fact able to sync with the Exchange server, and I now have my work email, contacts, and calender on my cappy. Some complaints:
- No integration with stock calendar app (as near as I can tell)
- Pay version is $20, which is a little pricey (I'm working with the 30-trial version for now)
Other than that, it seems like a pretty slick app, probably an overall improvement over the stock mail app, but I'll have to play around with it in the coming days to have more of an opinion there. One improvement I noticed immediately: I can move messages between personal folders using Touchdown, which I was not able to do with the stock app. On a side note, Exchange contacts, unlike the calender, integrated just fine with the phone contacts.
In summary, I have no clue why this mail application succeeded in syncing with my company's Exchange server when the stock app could not. However, I wanted to get this out there as an option if anyone else is having similar issues after updating their Captivate to some flavor of 2.2.

[Q] Froyo exchange peak off-peak support

Hi,
I haven't found any support for Exchange peak, off-peak sync support.
is there any way to put it?
thanks,
Hi,
You need to have Froyo 2.2.1 where the exchange email account has a "sync schedule" option.

As far as I know, that doesn't exist in 2.2.1. I'm running Doc's rom now (which is 2.2.1), and I don't have that feature. I've never seen that in stock Android (including Gingerbread). It does exist on 3rd party Exchange clients such as RoadSync as well as on the HTC Sense e-mail.
If I'm wrong, and I can do this on my SGS, please do correct me, because I'd love to be able to! I have a license for RoadSync, but I hate the UI
John
I use the seven email client, they call it beta but it is 100% stable. Its free and can schedule. I came across this program as it is the company that supplied samsung with the social hub email client. This is a nice unified inbox for me with the ability to work with synced folders.
I'm using Darky's Rom 9.3
The exchange mail client in it, has the setting to schedule your method of getting the emails ("push" or "manual") according to your schedule ON/OFF peak. There's a bug though --- the roaming setting is defaulted to "manual". I can't seem to change it.
So for Froyo 2.2.1 -- such on/off peak setting exists.

Did you try in 2.2.1 to set up a new exchange account in the stock email program ?
I did not have this peak / off-peak in 2.1 Eclair neither in 2.2 Froyo but was happy to finally get it in the stock email program from 2.2.1 JPY stock Froyo (I also had it this function in the custom ROMs I tried : Darky's & Doc's).
