[Q] Looking For A Keyboard From... - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, i am running the new cm7 2.3.2 aosp ROM. unfortunately, my screen is broken and the touch plain sucks on my hero. i came from fresh rom (2.4.0 i think?) and in the keyboard options i could select phone keyboard, which was just like a t9 typing kb. problem is, i don't know where to get that specific keyboard with the options to switch from full qwerty, phone keypad, or compact qwerty. i can only type if i have the phone keypad keyboard loaded. this ROM i am using doesn't have anything like the keyboard in fresh ROM. is there a way i can get the keyboard apk or update zip from someone to help me out? i have spent the last hour searching for a way to do this, and i don't know if i am using the wrong keywords or what, but i cannot find any info on this and to top it off when i search the forums for the phrase t9 keyboard, it removes t9 from my search only impairing my searches. i am very proficient, and wouldn't even post something like this unless i absolutely HAD to ask for the help.
if anyone could help me out? it would be appreciated so much.
on a side note: i am looking for a digitizer with god glass for my hero200. i am very broke and can offer maybe an in-mail trade for some desktop or laptop parts, heck, i have a laptop i would be willing to trade for the screen for my phone straight across if i can find someone who is trustworthy to do the deal. i just dont know how i could ship it on my broke budget. its a 1.25 ghz dell inspiron 400 i believe, with wifi. it works, i just need a screen for my phone bad enough and love my phone enough that i would trade it. let me know thru a pm if you can help with the screen, and please feel free to comeent away! thanks to the community in advance for all the help you have provided me with my various android and winmo devices for the last year plus!

Google this "flext9 keyboard apk hvga". I believe it has what you need. I can't upload it for you from my phone but you might have luck with google.
sent from my hero, which no longer sucks ass

awesome, i appreciate the help. i have gone ahead and switched to a backup phone for now until i can find a glass replacement, but all the help i can get on finding a good t9 board is much appreciated. ill connect my phone to wifi and go grab that apk and check it out. Thanks!

HELP - How do I replace my Tilt's keyboard?!

Hi,
I am getting a Tilt next week, shipped from the USA to Singapore, and found the keyboard's numerics rather - peculiar. I decided that swapping it with a normal TYTN II keyboard would be more aesthetically pleasing.
After searching, I found the replacement HERE.
After searching the forums, I could not find any detailed how-to guides for the keyboard and only some for the LCD screen.
Can anyone provide me with detailed instructions and if possible, pictures, on how to replace my keyboard?
And by doing so will I have to peel off any warranty sticker and void the warranty?
This is a very complex procedure IMO since I am not very technically inclined.
It would be very much appreciated if someone could help me with this.
Thanks!
is that just the keypad or the entire keyboard?
i noticed that the keys are in different locations for the tytn and the tilt. wouldnt that cause conflict? for example, the wifi is in different location, and a bunch of the symbols are in different locations.
I'm not too sure what the difference is but I wanted to change the rubberish keypad, the one that has the silver keys?
The conflict part should not be a problem since I plan to flash other ROMs onto it.

This procedure actually modifies the screen to sit more upright... but goes through the removal of the keyboard.
Good luck. Looks like open heart surgery to me...
My gosh this is totally not what I expexted.
To put it crudely, I don't have the balls to do it. I am not going to risk spoiling my $450 device just to make it more "aesthetically pleasing".
Is this the only way to change the keyboard?!
soooo, not to start a new thread... but is it easy replacing the tilt's keyboard? my S key flew off, and i want to replace the keypad, but before i buy one, i wanted to know how easy/hard it is... any advise?

QWERTY keys not working

Great website here, hopefully you guys can help me as I've searched over the net and haven't had any success. Basically the delete and P button on the QWERTY keyboard have stopped working....which is really very irritating Very occasionally they start to work again when I reset the phone, but less so nowadays.
This sounds like a hardware fault to me, but before I took it back to the store to get it replaced, I wanted to check if there's a way to fix it incase it's a software problem. Any help? Thanks!
I used a dry contact cleaner and compress air without open the phone..
It works for me!

[Q] Help me solve keyboard mystery please!

So here is my story.. i have a perfectly working kaiser, and one with a broken lcd.. but both of them are in terrible cosmetic condition.. so i decide to order from ebay a full housing (with keyboard included) to make it look good and give it to my brother as a present..
I perfectly disassemble the device with the working screen and easily install it in the new housing.. but when i turn it on i realise that the only working hardware keyboard buttons were q e u o f h l and some arrows i think...
My first conclusion was that the keyboard included in the housing was not working correctly so i decide to use my old one. but to my surprise the old keyboard also has only the same working buttons!!!
after that i also tried the keyboard from my other kaiser ( with the broken screen) with the same results.
So up to this point, i guess it is safe to assume that the keyboards have no problem.. but then the mystery grows cause i exchanged every single piece of the phone with the broken kaiser's parts and the problem remains the same...
Any idea?? i am an engineer and problems like that that i cannot think of a reason that they are happening drive me nuts!!! please help me sleep at nights..
thanx in advance!
Hooray! Someone else who has the exact same problem as me! The phone I have had the LCD screen replaced and once it was reassembled, the keyboard is wacky. I tried reseating it and the same keys you mention are the only ones working: Q E U O F H L, CAP/Shift, Tab, Space, Enter and the 4 arrow keys. Nothing else works. I'd love to see if anyone has a solution to our problem. =)
Also, I'm not sure if it does it for you but the backlighting doesn't turn back on once it goes off - even when pressing the working keys. I found other posts on this forum with similar problems (with no replies) but their keyboards were not working at all. There has to be a simple solution that we're missing if it's this common.
Thats really weird that we have the same keys working... it really has to be something we are missing... but i have changed everything..
the only thing i didnt change is the lcd, so now that you are telling me that this happened only after you changed the lcd, it got me thinking that maybe the lcd is not as inocent as it may seem... cause,ok, my first thought was like wtf the lcd couldnt mess up with the keyboard.. but now that i think about it it is the only thing i havent tried to replace.. i have a broken one but still quite operative, so i will try with this one and get back at you.. if in the meanwhile anyone else knows something or has an idea, please help a little bit!
Like you, I cannot find any reason between the keyboard and the screen that would cause this. They're not connected in any way or share any cables. They connect to different parts of the main board... there's no logic that I can find.
I got mine second-hand and the original owner said she had the LCD replaced because of a couple dead pixels. The keyboard was working fine before that. Let me know what you find out. I was planning on ordering a replacement keyboard assembly from eBay but since you've tried a couple, that saves me from wasting that money.
Unfortunatelly the extra LCD i had was not operating at all, so the test i wanted to do failed, and i still dont know whats causing the problem... i am more or less convinced that i have to buy a new lcd but it is a bit of a risk to change the screen because some buttons on the keyboard dont work, dont you think?? anyway i am wondering y nobody else has nothing to say... this hasnt happened to anyone else??

Hmm, that's an interesting find. It's odd that the same problem exists on different phones, unless it's a common section/piece of the board/assembly that gets damaged. Are you going to try and use the assembly from your other phone? Let me know what happens. I'd like to know what piece I need to buy to get mine working again. =)

[Q] qwerty keyboard

Hi All I hope someone can help me, my Daughter got a new Galaxy S and after a couple of days getting used to it all was going well and the swype thing is great, all of a sudden her qwerty version of the keyboard has been replaced with one of the others, although qty is actually ticked. The only way to get the qty to re-appear is the disable the swype feature which of course she does not want to lose. I have spent the best part of 4 hours going though various site and most of it in XDA but cannot find any solution... can we help
Cheers and thanks in advance
David
By qwerty do you mean the Samsung Keyboard? Even swype is QWERTY after all.
For the moment just try restarting the phone. It can do wonders sometimes.

Question Official Keyboard cover with trackpad self disabling

Dear XDA community, I'm writing to please ask some help on a problem I'm facing with my official samsung book keyboard cover. I attach it to the tablet, the tablet disables the soft keyboard to allow me to type with the hardware keyboard...... and it doesn't work.
My tablet is: Tab S8 SM-X700, One UI 4.1.1, Android 12, Update 1st October 2022, Build number SP2A.220305.013.X700XXS2AVJ4.
It does't seem to be an hardware problem as I returned the keyboard under warranty and asked for a raplacement. It lasted just a few hours before randomly showing the same behaviour. My best guess is that there is a buggy firmware option/feature that disables the keyboard when the keyboard is folded and the tablet is using it as a stand. This way even if you accidentally press the keys the input will not be registered. Problem is that If i don't need the keyboard I just detatch it so I have no use for this feature, and when I attach the keyboard I definetly want the damn keyboard to type. Sometimes I'm typing normally and the keyboard randomly disables making the soft keyboard flash a bunch of times and of course not writing anything useful.
This are the things I do to restore the keyboard functionality when it doesn't work (it makes me loose whatever I'm doing since it disrupts my workflow and if a person is talking I just miss taking notes of several minutes of the speech).
Detatching and reattaching the keyboard to the tablet (usually doesn't help. When i detatch the keyboard the soft one is restored, when I reattach the keyboard the soft one is disabled but the hard one still cannot type).
Cicling the keyboard from closed to type position to stand position a couple of times. (It worked well enough for a couple of days that i was willing to consider it an acceptable workaround that consumed just a few seconds every time it was needed. What happens more and more often is that the soft keyboard flashes on and off a few times. If i type something, the first letter or so will get randomly imputted a bunch of times with no subsequent imput registered by the application that I am using). Besides, folding the keyboard always disables it and no keys are registered when pressed.
Factory reset does absolutely nothing as well as cleaning the data of the samsung keyboard.
Tapping on the palmrest area near the trackpad. Often when I do that It looks like it is feeling something as the soft keyboard start flashing on and off. If i write something on the hardware keyboard a letter or two may get typed. Maybe the keyboard has an accelerometer that gets bumped/reset when i do this.
Raising the keyboard on the tablet side. This provides to me a more confortable typing experience and surprisingly enough it seems to make the typing behaviour more stable once i manage to make it register something but it doesn't help in that initial "no writing phase". Again maybe the keyboard accelerometer is "feeling" me bunping on the keyboard while I write.
Installing and setting as default keyboard a third party keyboard like Swift Key. It unfortuately does not change the hardware keyboard behaviour whatsoever.
Is anyone having the same problem? Does anyone know of a possible solution? Does anyone have a different keyboard case that is working reliably and allows a comfortable typing experience? Maybe one with the hinge on the keyboard and not on the tablet, that still allows to charge and not loose the spen, and to detatch the keyboard part from the tablet?
One thing that I havent tried yet is to flash a build from a different region. I think mine has the German version, if nobody from UK, Spain, Italy had this problem I might try one of those firmwares. The keyboard is also German as I could't source any querty one, or even any ISO one for that matter (it has an ANSI like layout with the small enter button and an Apple like combined Del+Backspace combined with additional useless buttons that occupy space like a dedicated dex/screenshot button that I keep accidentally pressing, an Esc key where the default behaviour is not Esc, a Lang Key in place of AltGr that i keep accidentally pressing, an AltGr key in place of an Fn or Ctrl key, A random Fn key in between the Ctrl and Win/Cmd key that is there just be randomly accidentally pressed).... but it doesn't matter as I have a different more important problem with it.
Thank you in advance so much to anyone in this community that might read this post. Sorry for my ranty rescription of the problem but it gets frustrating when you pay laptop like money for an untested gimmiky toy.
I have the ultra that had a similar issue, but not as bad as your describing. There were 2 keyboard updates since I got the tablet and it improved my issue to the point that once in a blue moon I would get the keyboard not working issue, than I would restart the tablet and it would work for a while without issues. There is a specific way to trigger the keyboard to update, check on youtube/search google, can't remember how to trigger it the 1st time as there is a specific way, after that it would automatically update or show there is an update. Hope it helps you with your issue
Thank you very much for your reply. Unfortunately there is no firmware update available for the tab S7/S8 book keyboard. I've now contacted samsung that told me to create an error report. I'll write here the reply to help the community if and how i manage to fix the problem.
Jonearthur thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I did all of the "standard" stuff many times with no results.
Since my last message the tablet got a major Android Update to android 13. And while travelling the keyboard received an update as well. Needless to say that I still have the same problem as before.
Samsung replied to my request in the least useful way possible to tell me that the team is working on a fix. I onestly just think that the Tab S8 connection to the keyboard has an electrically flawed design.
Since for me this is also the first device with a "floppy detatchable keyboard" I'm also wondering wether I should trust at all the concept of a keyboard that attaches to the device in this way.
Hello I wanted to give an update on this topic. Since more than one month passed from my report to Samsung I decided to contact them again.
The support was awful, I received no help watsoever except from "sorry we didn't care about your error report, write it again and maybe we will read it and reply". So I did the report again. Still waiting a reply on that one after more than a week so.... I'm not holding my breath.
During the unhappy chat I told them that I was tired of not having help and that I wanted to be refunded. Guess what.... since the problem concerns the keyboard they can refund the keyboard but cannot refund the tablet. Then this person further specified that the tablet can be sent for repairs but never refunded. Just to make a comparison suppose that you bought a car. Now suppose that for whatever reason the weels keep detatching from the car. Suppose that you are not ok with it and ask for a refund. Suppose that the support of the company tells you "sorry bro you can give us the weels and we will refund the cost for them but the car is fine so you have to keep it". This is the level of absurdity that Samsung reached.
Even taking into consideration the possible keyboard refund I still did not find an alternative cover that includes a keyboard and that has a way to keep the pen charged without loosing it in a backpack. Even the other keyboard from Samsung does not support that. You can keep the pen but don't you dare to charge it.
Today after a bit of hesitation I installed yet another update for the tablet. That made no diffrence for the keyboard behaviour. After that I made yet another desperate factory reset. Surprisingly this time it looks like for whatever reason the keyboard seems to be working.
I'll keep an eye on it just in case it decides to misbehave again. The description of the update does not contain any clue to as to why doing a factory reset before did not fix the keyboard but it does now.
