Ok, I might have bricked my phone. I had the cm7/Aosp gingerbread mod. But I didn't have apps2sd enabled. So I downloaded rom manager, flashed the newest version of clockwork recovery, and rebooted to recovery, where I partitioned for apps 2 sd with a size of 256 mb and 128mb swap-space . I then factory reset, and formatted Boot, cache, data, everything. After that I went to mount as Usb, and I copied the Rom, gapps, and a battery icon mod back to the phone. But the phone didn't recognize any installable packages on my sd after I un-mounted, so I shut my Hero off in hopes it would when I turned it back on p) . When I turned the Hero on, it went to a Usb-fastboot mode, and I couldn't get it to turn off so I removed the battery from the back of my phone, then put it back in. Now my phone won't turn on at all. Does anybody know what I did wrong and can I fix it?

Thanks Spleef, but I was wondering how to get my phone to turn on again as it seems to have just quit on me
Whenever a ROM doesn't boot up properly, boot loop, freeze, etc, I usually have to pull the battery out. Then when I restart it, I hold down the Volume Down and Power buttons at the same time to boot into recovery. Try doing this while the phone is plugged into your wall charger and see if that helps.
Also, I'm not 100% on how to get the apps2sd working, but I had a question about which version of Clockwork you were using. I thought with CM7 Gingerbread we were supposed to use version 3.0.0.5 of Clockwork. I know there is a new version, 2.5.1.7 I think, that shows up in ROM Manager. Unless something has changed, I don't think it will work with CM7.
I'm still pretty new to this, so hopefully someone else will chime in here for you.
Good luck.
i did the same thing one time you gota wipe everything again i mean even the sd card and extthen take ur sd card adapter and put rom gapps any extras on ur sd card then put it back into ur phone then flash it in the order of rom, gapps, extras, and kernel last if u are using one hope this helps
p.s this was using CWM 2.5.0.1
This just happened to me the other day, except I was trying to use firerats partition mod. See if it will boot by holding volume down or up while powering on. It worked for me, but I had to ruu back to stock and had reroot with z4root.apk
Sent from my HTC Hero CDMA using XDA App
Ok anytime you do a factory reset from the phone you most likely will loose root. And leave your phone charged over night it should come back on. And your swap is to big IMO. For apps to sd try a 28 or 32 swap and 512 partition. Then upgrade you ext from ext2 to ext3. And you were supposed to wipe everything before you flashed the apps to sd file. As in wipe everything data,cache,dev-cache and ext. Then flash your rom,google-apps,and kernel last. Boot up sign into your account and let it sync. Then boot to recovery and flash the apps2sd zip. After that you should install your apps. And I think you should ruu and reroot. Sounds like you lost root when you did factory reset from with in the phone. Just my opinion. Hope it helps good luck.

Ive got a big problem, recently my old SD card **** out so i replaced it with a brand new one with nothing on it. Upon first boot nothing was loaded because obviously APP2SD puts everything on the SDCard, however not even market was loaded on the phone itself so it was impossible to even download anything
Now the big issue!!
In my stupidness i thought i would just wipe and reflash a new CM with the new SD card and see if that fixed everything.. However i wiped and then i realized i didnt have a new ROM on my SD card to flash back too!! so now when my phone boots it just boots to a black screen and nothing appears because there is no rom to run... my phone itself is wiped data/cache and my SD card is completely clean due to it being a brand new one
How can i get my phone working again? right now it is INOP as i dont have any rom on it whatsoever and it wont even boot, i dont have a microSD adaptor to put it on my computer with and load a rom on it
is there some failsafe way to get it back to stock firmware incase something like this happens?
This should be in the Q&A section.
But,
What recovery do you have?
[edit]
oh right, drop into terminal Alt+x, type ums_enable and connect your phone through usb and copy over the rom and Amon Ra's latest recovery.

You could try posting in the right section.... or you could go to recovery, drop to console and type ums_enable- then connect your phone and move a rom over

Go buy an sd reader. Or if you have aman ras recovery you can set it to go to usb fro the recovery menu.
first - wrong section
second, if you have a custom recovery - go to the shell and type
ums_enable with usb plugged in
inop
You need a card reader and the ra dream recovery and you would of fixed it
Wow all of you said the same thing?
And repeated it
Even ^ copied the rest of you by saying got rec mode.
ur first card prooly didnt go bad, u prolly didnt flash the ext-fix from cm..correct? thats what happened to me and i then realized my sd was fine, i was also stuck at the g1 screen b4 i flashed the fix. also from what i read all u did was wipe so ur rom is still there, see if u can grab the old card and getter dun. and stop being a jackass and post this where it goes!!
Post in the correct section, next time, please.
Moved.
i have been running damagecontrol 2.0.8 and over the last few days had some weird forced closes and then last night my sense clock and stuff dissapeared. When trying to go into settings - > application management it would force close also. So i downloaded the damagecontrol rom again, put on my SD, went into recovery and wiped everything. For some dumb reason i also wiped the SD card.
so i put the rom back on SD, and flashed. nope, i didnt nandroid after deleted it. OOPS! and of course im an idiot and didnt ever copy my nandroid to PC
so anyways, i have flashed the rom a few times now and im stuck in a never ending HTC/Sprint boot up loop. I've tried everything I can think of and nothing will boot the phone.
Any ideas or am i screwed?
Nope youre bricked......
ok so do this:
Make sure you wipe everything, sd card included (0 for ext, 0 for swap, all for FAT)
The copy the rom back to the phone and flash again...
Worst case is to run the RUU1.56.
Oh yeah post this in general next time.
Mods will probably move it - if so thats where your thread went.
lol your NOT bricked. Bricked means no way to recover. If you can still get to your recovery screen your fine. Like the last post says boot to recovery go to the wipe screen and wipe every category Data / sd extension / other ones arent really necessary. Pick a ROM put it on your card flash and enjoy. oh then MAKE A BACKUP!

power off, remove your sd card, and power on.
You most likely have something screwy in your ext partition.
Had this same issue...
I wiped everything (factory reset, davlik cache, etc)...flashed the ROM again. Had no luck. My phone came back for about 2 minutes...and was running insanely slow and freezing up after every button press. Tried running a nanoid restore...with no avail. I ended up getting my phone replaced with a reconditioned model. And it actually feels better than the new one I was using, lol.
I don't know what peoples problems with a reconditioned piece of equipment is. If I have the option to buy refurb at a store I do - simply put: A company cannot afford to test EVERY thing that is spit of the production line, they grab every say 100th one.
IN THEORY:
Each and EVERY refurb is tested and inspected, so its really almost garunteed that you will get a better product. Unless of course the QA person is a moron/lazy - which actually maybe the case with refurb heros...have seen a few horror stories.
I had something like this happen too. It would get stuck on the boot screen in a loop. I was able to get into recovery, but it could not read the SD card at all. I had to format the SD card and flash a new rom. I'm wondrering if it's because I dropped the phone and that cause the SD card data to be corrupted.
I bricked my CDMA Hero. I rooted it with the super one click, and installed a early version of froyo, and had some issues with it. I wanted to get it off, so I used CWM recovery, and formatted everything. Now when I turn it on it goes to the HTC opening screen, and stays there for hours until the battery dies. It will charge, but my computer doesn't recognize it, and it will not boot. What can I do?
Bricked means it is a brick and that is it, your phone still turns on so the good news is that it is not bricked.
Need some more info before anyone can help:
1. You reformatted everything using clockwork recovery
2. Did you re-install a new ROM?
3. Did you restore a nandroid backup?
I would recommend booting into recovery and wiping everything (factory reset and dalvik-cache) in recovery, then reinstall froyo - once you are booted and running you can figure out what you want to put on it. At least your phone would work then.

I'm also pretty sure your phone isn't bricked, as long as you can still get into Recovery, it Most Likely can be Fixed!
I also Recommend trying to Wipe Everything, then Reinstalling a New Rom, Also as a Suggestion... If it were me I'd Probably Choose a Different ROM to install! My Very First ROM I Flashed was a Cyanogen one, and I had Trouble with it Booting Also!!
Try LiquidSense... its Only 2.1, but its Stable, It Boots Fast, and just plain out Fast as Hell!
You can always Switch to Whatever you want... Once you get your phone back to a Working Condition!
Good Luck!

I cannot get it into recovery now. It will turn on, but it stops at the initial HTC screen, and stays there until the battery dies. When I connect my phone with my computer, the computer recognizes it, but I can't seem to get the 2.1 exe from HTC.com download to the phone. My guess is I wiped the thing clean. Unfortuneately, I didn't back anything up.
I can't even get into recovery, it just sits on the HTC startup screen until the battery dies. It does recognize when I connect it to my computer, but running the 2.1 exe doesn't do anything.
Can you adb into the phone and flash a recovery?
I think that would be a helpful start.

Pull the battery, hold volume down and power and you should boot into bootloader. I believe it is *home* to get you back into recovery. Then reinstall a new rom and you should be good to go.

t-y, got it. Yeah, then adb a new recovery image may be the only thing. But he may not even be able to get in then.
Just a matter of waiting right now.
He did say his computer was recognizing his device, so he might be ok.
If he can flash a new recovery, or even just adb.. then he can start rebuilding it.
stonemad:
You'll want to grab a recovery, and try to connect to your phone via ADB when it's on.
Then do adb shell
then : flash_image recover [name of recovery].img

Ok, I can get to the CWM recovery, there is no backup files, no recovery files, and no files on my sd card. I cannot seem to get an opperating system on. I mounted my phone to my computer and downloaded .zip files, but it still says no files available.
How do I flash a recovery, I can't find any files anywhere.
i have .zip files on my sd card to flash, but when I try to apply them it says no files found.
Ok, I have been working on this all day. Thank you to every body who answered. This is the situation as best as I see it. I can use the power and the down volume buttons to go to recovery mode. I have ClockworkMod 2.5 and can mount my computer to my sd card. It appears that I don't have an opperating system at all, or anything else on the phone. I have downloaded several .zip files and tried to install them, I can mount them, but when I try to apply them it states that there are no update.zip files on the sd card. I have deduced that I need an opperating system for an update to work, but I could be wrong. I am having a hard time finding the right files to use to get my phone to go. It seems salvageable, but I'm not sure how. People have sugested a couple of Mods to instal, but I don't know how to do that with what I have. CWM is asking for a update.zip, or a recovery.zip, but I don't know wich one at which time, or even how to get it to flash. That is what I think I know, but that is subject to change depening on what you all know.(showing just how foolish I really am) Thanks again people for you time and advice, I really do appreciate it.
Don't select "install update.zip", select "install zip from SD card" or whatever the option is called.
I've tried that too, it seems like all the software is gone. HTC, Sprint, Google, and Android. Does anybody have a download they think will work. I'm at the point to try anything.

What software are you talking about? Sprint, Google, and Android what, specifically? A download for what?
Mount usb storage in recovery, put rom of your choice on there, and flash?
what about kernals, how do I know that I have everything I need?
ROMs generally have kernels in the zip builds already. From the sounds of it, you're kind of lost at what you're doing.
Do you have a SD card reader? if so, plug in the SD card to your computer and pull over a ROM zip, like Cyanogenmod or whatever is to your liking.
Then in recovery, go to "install zip from sdcard"
go to "Choose zip from sdcard"
then search for the ROM zip you put on the sd card.
State exactly STEP BY STEP, what you are doing. Your phone is perfectly fine, you just dont have a ROM on your phone, which is why you cant boot. You're not missing kernels, or anything, you simply dont have the baseline of a ROM on your phone yet.

I don't know where or how to find a rom, I have heard good things about cyanogen, but can't seem to find where to download it. Is ClockworkMod a rom, and if so how do I use it. You're right, I got way in over my head, and now I just want my phone back the way I bought it. What is your favorite rom, and can you give me a link. Thanks again everyone.
Well I don't know what I did but this morning when my nookie froyo emmc was at 20 percent it decided to turn off and not turn on and won't turn on when charged and will not boot any sd cards. I feel stupid but after my nook working on emmc froyo for a week and now its not even turning on I feel very stupid. All help is appreciated, thanks!

Have you tried booting to the CWR card yet? And using Samuelhalff's zip that restores the stock partitions? This seems to have worked for many people experiencing the fatal Froyo crash. Take a look at the 'Easily Restore to Stock" thread found here in the Nook forums. And in the end if your device truly won't turn on, then chances are the guys down at B&N won't be able to either. *Warranty*
Well I have tried monster root pack as a card but I haven't tried stock partitioning,i dont know where the thread is. But will this let me even boot an sd card ?

I recommend flashing this ROM instead though (pre-rooted 1.1):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=932145
And yes if you insert the CWR sdcard into the nook and hold the power button, it will power on. The reason it isnt powering on currently is because your froyo boot partition is corrupted, not because of the nook itself. The CWR sdcard has a different boot partition that your nook will see and boot to when you hold the power button down with the CWR sdcard in.

Thats my post from an earlier thread with someone having the same issues. It worked for him, it should work for you. Just make sure you follow the steps right and especially make sure your burning the Clockwork image to your SDcard correctly that way it will boot into Clockwork instead of staying black.
I'm gonna have to give these steps a whirl. The downloads are taking foreeeever.
Also had Froyo installed with CWM and just got finished installing gapps. I went to format an SD card, had no luck, and tried to reboot. Ol' Nookie decided not to come back to life after that.
edit: wait, instead of flashing the stock rom can I flash the pre-rooted 1.1 rom?
Just read this over on android central (in a thread about flashing honeycomb). I believe it is what I did and why my nook won't boot:
****While running Honeycomb from Internal Memory NEVER choose the option to format your SD Card from within Honeycomb. The files that were altered to let HC run internally will lead the OS to actually format your boot partition instead of your SD. If you need to format an SD, do it on your computer or in an Android phone, etc.*****

Drat. Just got my CWM image on my sd card. Here goes nothin! Will report back
OK, I have CWM booting off the SD card, i'm formatting system and data under mounts and storage, and then i'm installing the 1.0.1 complete restore. It goes through and then I got to reboot system. Then...nothing. Back to black screen. Help please!
I can pop the SD card back in and boot back to CWM. I've tried several times now with no luck
samuelhalff has a flashable zip that restores the boot partition for situations like this. Go look for it in the development forum. you should be able to flash it using CWR and your NC ought to boot.
eyecrispy, thank you! samuelhalff's boot zip followed by his 1.0.1 complete restore zip did the trick.
RileyGrant, thank you for your post as well. Much obliged!!
Mine just shows a blank screen. All I did was boot into ClockwordMod Recovery, make a backup, then reboot. I was going to flash the Honeycomb Rom, but decided to give it some more thought first. Now All I get is the blank screen, it won't power all the way off, and it won't power on or anything
EDIT: Managed to get it to turn off, but when I turn it back on it boots into recovery. I select Reboot System now, and it reboots back into recovery. Forgive me, I'm so new to this Nook Color thing lol
EDIT AGAIN: Tried using the Monster Pack or whatever, flashed the removeclockwork.zip, followed by the installclockwork.zip, then removed the SD card, rebooted, and went right back into Clockwork Recovery. What gives?
YUP Same thing happened to me. I have read all the posts in this thread and i did try to format the card i had in my nook in the brand new phiremod froyo rom. Now it wont boot at all. I have a CRW card on hand and it wont even boot that. Idk right now, nothing is working.
Try reading through the Dummies Guide to Fixing 'My Nook Won't Boot'.
I did it last night and I'm back up and running again. Here's my post for an abridged version of what I did last night: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11374824&postcount=29
I had the same problem until I flashed the repartition fix.
Give that a try
I've got the exact same problem as the OP. Running Froyo on EMMC with no problems for a few days, then I left it for a while and now it wont turn back on or boot from uSD.
I've tried long presses on the power key, usb cable power up, but nothing works. I've tried the v4 HC image and the clockwork recovery image and neither are booting.
I verified the CWR image on my android phone and it does boot on my phone, so the image is definitely okay.
Hate to think it, but could this be a battery management issue in the 0.6.7 image and the battery is now screwed? Doesn't seem like boot partition corruption to me.
Any comments or suggestions are welcomed

Sorry for asking what's probably a silly question, but I haven't seen an answer. Is this known to the Nookie dev(s) and being addressed? Just had it happen running Nookie 0.6.8 off the SD card. I was really enjoying it and just telling the wife how I think I'll flash it to the eMMC, but I might have to reconsider if this might occur. Battery was ~80%, no goof-ups reformatting anything. Locked the screen around 1:10 this afternoon & hadn't touched it since. Got home about an hour ago to turn it on, nothing. Disappointing, Nookie is pretty good!
nook color wont turn on
so what to do if i dont have a sd card with cwr or honeycomb (what i was trying to run)ive already called for the replacement, but i would still like to know what to do.
I found this thread after suffering the same or similar problem to everyone else. I turned off the screen and set my nc aside for a few minutes, then it would no longer boot. Screen just stayed black and was completely unresponsive to any input. Working my way through some troubleshooting, I plugged the nc into my computer via USB and it booted into CM7 instantly. I have no idea why this happened, but it's working fine now.
I installed "Battery Icon Mod v1.01", applied the mod, restarted, and I do see the AT&T screen, then I see the Galaxy moving screen, and after, I see the black screen, and nothing else, and I feel the phone vibrates (almost the same way, when the program crashes). I need to get back on the phone somehow, without restarting from scratch. Any way without loosing all of it?
Can you get into recovery with battery pull and up + down volume + power?
If so try reflashing or flashing a different battery mod and see if it works

Looks like youre running stock recovery which = stock ROM. How did it even flash without failing verification? (not asking you, whoever else)
IMO you're hosed and need to odin back to completely stock (everything is lost) Unless someone else can think of a way to fix system files with stock recovery
I did flashed my phone with froyo 2.2 when I got the phone, and it was back in September or something. It was also rooted, so maybe that why it allowed to mod? I'm not too good with the phones and stuff, as i am more of a computer IT.

If you're really in IT you'd know that information is key to solving any problem. Stock 2.2 or a custom 2.2 ROM?
What I was trying to say, is I am not good with phones, and phone software and stuff
If you had usb debugging checked , you can use adb to push your original framework back to the phone. If you did a backup you can just install the backup. Otherwise your only recourse is to reflash the rom.
no i dont have any back and stuff. is there anyway to get the SMS? or my MEMO's?
You can flash a rom through odin...does not have to be stock...it will not wipe the info you have saved on your internal sd or external. if you sync your contacts with google gmail it will return all your contacts.
With that said, you will lose any programs you downloaded and installed unless you have them backed up (titianium back-up, etc).
It's not the end of the world, your phone will live again...
Just a thought...why not take this opportunity to flash one of the excellent custom roms in the development section?
This is why you will be backing up from now on...if no adb debugging then i dont this you can do adb pull or anything so .just flash another rom bud.we all make mistakes .yours isnt too big of a mistake tho. Sorry

as long as I can keep my data, I'm not worried about loosing my applications, I can always reinstall them. I remember I tried to flash Froyo 2.2, and it took me forever to get it done. Could someone point me to a good ROM (preferably 1.2OC) where I can keep all my data.
Nope. You're pretty much out if luck with no backup. If you were on stock 2.2 then the reason you're in a bootloop is because you tried to install a mod to your framework that only works in deoxed roms.

i guess the solution is to clear cache and factory reset ...
but u will loose ur data....
No roms will delete your internal SD card unless you do a master clear. Without pushing your framework back and having no backup all your data (SMS, memos, call logs) is gone. No way around it. Flashing with Odin still deletes your user data.
can somebody point me to the best 1.2GHz rom?
That's in the kernel. Which can be swapped out on any rom, I believe there is one for stock froyo.
Im kinda confused, I've been googling and searching this thread, and not sure what I have to do next. How do I began from scratch? What do I need to install the very first image? Where do I get it? I keep on searching all the threads this forum has, but its so much stuff here, that I get really confused.
