Where can I get original Vodafone UK firmware? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm sending my SGS in for a power buttone repair, but I am stuck on stock froyo atm, how can I get it back to stock vodafone uk firmware?

I don't think you can. Carrier roms are difficult to find. Good luck hunting.

You need to find someone with this software and get him to create a backup of his ROM and than flash it over! For this I prepared scripts to create a backup of the whole Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 without flashing.
I suggest you first backup data on the friend's device (be careful), then do a factory reset, root the device (it is also possible without installing/copying anything to it) and than make backup images (backup ROM), restore your friends data and flash the ROM over to your phone (don't flash boot partitions if it is not needed).
You can get it at: http://gw.tnode.com/0469-Android/f/
Steps: Get into Linux, connect over USB and set USB debugging mode, get ADB to work (./bin/adblinux), root the phone (script ./doroot.sh) and make a backup with ./dobackup.sh.
Note: Use at your own risk! Feel free to modify it and sent patches.
More info on: http://gw.tnode.com/0469-Android/

A work around is to flash back to Eclair then use Kies to update to Vodaphone software or try Kies Registry Patcher .

Download "check fus" from market. It will give you the URL for the ROM and decode password (search on here for decode.exe). Then use odin to flash it.

[Q] Root Backups

Hey Guys I am using a Captivate SGH-1897 Baseband I897UCJF6 and Kernel version 2.6.29 jataek.lee (at symbol) sep-11 #2
I was wondering now that I have root access and set up my phone is there an easy way to make an update.zip out of my current configuration so that in case i brick my phone instead of flashing a stock ROM back onto the phone I can have my configuration flashed back to when i performed my last backup. Please advise if someone has any idea on how to do this.
The problem with you idea is that depending in the state of your phone your may note be able to get into recovery in order to rerun an update zip.

Best bet is to just use Titanium Backup to restore your apps/data. Then you could use Odin 1 Click back to stock if it ever "bricks".

[Q] Full restore without Odin/Heimdall

Is there any way we could reflash the entire phone with official firmware, without the use of Odin/Heimdall (or any unofficial way). I liked the idea of iTunes where I can restore my device whenever I want.
KIES seems to have emergency firmware recovery, which I don't know how to artificially trigger it to work.
Kies Registry Patcher save rom

That is interesting. Thanks!
I am having KIES v2, I assume downgrade is necessary?

Dont really know about the downgrade .
I used Kies patcher to grab a copy of my networks Froyo update as a saved rom i have flashed it with Odin but not Kies .

Samsung Galaxy S removing vodafon logo?

Hi guys so first of all i was a iPhone user so i'm newbie at the Android development,i have a couple of question on which i hope you can help,i bought a Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 but when the phone is booting it shows annoying Vodafon logo and Vodafon apps,is there way to put back default booting and apps? on the phone android version is Gingerbred is there way maybe to upgrade on IceCream sandwich?also one big question ,can Samsung can be locked i mean now it's unlocked on my network and if i do update over Kies will it lock to Vodafon or someother network is there way to check it?.Thanks
Hello rider17...
First of all, welcome to this amazing community.
The first thing you need to do is read, read and read... a lot.
The section reserved to our Samsung Galaxy S is very active and there's always something new to try.
To get rid of all that bloatware from Vodafone you need to flash a stock or a costumized ROM.
One of the most important tools that you will need is Odin. (search the forum you'll find it easily)
The first step to enter the world of costumized ROMs is the get ROOT.
There are several methods to achieve this but the one I recommend is to flash the CF-ROOT appropriate to the version installed in your phone.
With CF-ROOT you get 2 things in one step, ROOT and CWM (Clockwork Recovery Mod).
After that you can install any customized ROM, just follow the steps of the ROM Maker/Cooker.
If I helped you out, please hit the "Thanks" button!
If you need some more guidance, send me a private message.
Thanks @kavsko for your reply, does anybody else have suggestion to answer on my other question so i can start with Android

If the Phone is unlocked it will stay unlocked.
If you install a custom ROM you will not be able to upgrade using KIES. In fact you will not be able to use Kies.
I strongly suggest that before you root/install custom ROM that you look up how to back up your EFS folder. This folder contains your IMEI in a HEX file

If you have put in another carriers SIM and and are able to make calls, us the internet etc the phone is not locked.
here is where i suggest you start reading
Not really much help for your topic but follow what the guys above have suggested, if in doubt ask and be as detailed as possible when you do so, but make sure you read up on everything before you try anything you would want your first android experience to be a bad one. good luck
Well i read the whole [HOW TO] /efs Folder backup + Restore NV_DATA.BIN and the whole [HOWTO] [REF] [FAQ] [Guides] [Tutorials] Flash/Root/ADB/ROM [MUST READ!] thread i'm learning,by this tutorial flashing device isn't that hard ,but also as @Lexrs sad "you will note be able to connect on Kies" i can't connect now is it maybe the reason because Vodafon or the storte where i bought it flashed ROM?also guy's is there way to check liftimer counter on SGS ?

You are now on your way to having a rooted/custom rom.
1. find a rooted version of your kernel in 'settings>> "about phone"
2. backup EFS folder
3. find rom/flash rom
My rooted version is :2.6.35.7-i9000 BUJVA-CL220544 [email protected] #2 what to do with this?
Just look for a rootet Kernel, like Semaphore, CF-Root, Midnight e.g.
Take the one for your firmware, and flash with Odin.
Or you could also look for the latest Stock Firmware and flash this before flashing the kernel.
I did that and i rooted ,i used a CF-Root but i have a problem ,phone keep's restarting after booting up ,i used Odin 1.85 and CF-Root-XX-2.4 version, and the Android version on my device is :GINGERBREAD.BUJVA,it keep's showing me Vodafon blotware and restarting i described problem here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26698525#post26698525 .Please help me
Are you saying that you are getting a boot loop?
Can you get into Recovery or Download mode?
In recovery perform a factory reset (all apps and data will be erased. Internal SD card should be ok)
If this fails create a account at samfirmware.com and download the firmware for your phone/carrier/region
Once downloaded flash using Odin take note if it is a 1 file or 3 file (note you will need to extract from the downloaded zip to get to the Flash .TAR .PDA etc
1 file flash in PDA in odin
3 file is self explanatory
boot phone and once up and running attempt root flash again
I don't really know waht boot loop mean, but i can enter download and recovey mode,in fact i can enter the phone, but after using it for 5-6 seconds it reboots,do i need to do a EFS file backup?I tired wipe data/factory reset from recovery but it's the same still rebooting....????
Thanks now it seem's fine and rooted now when the phone is rooted what i need to do to remove the Vodafon sign/blotware,put another ROM ?do i need to do EFS backup i read that thread that you send me but i don't know how to use adb shell,is there easier way to do it ?

To remove Vodafon bloatware i use Titanium Backup locate vodafon app and Un-install (remove at your own risk)
Voda fone boot logo you can leave it there it is only boot images.
If you do not want to use the ADB way to backup the EFS folder you can use Terminial emulator from Google play and enter the commands directly into the emulator. This is the way that I backed up my EFS folder
$ su
# tar cvf /sdcard/efs-backup.tar.gz /efs
(OR)
# busybox tar cvf /sdcard/efs-backup.tar.gz /efs
$ su
# cat /dev/block/stl3 > /sdcard/efs_dev-block-stl3.img
(OR)
# busybox cat /dev/block/stl3 > /sdcard/efs_dev-block-stl3.img
Once you have the *.img and *.tar.gz you can copy them as normal to your computer.
Nope i was wrong the phone is still reboting, grhhh like it won't accept any kernel ,where can i find a damn kernel that work with SGS Vodafon(Germany) i recorded video so you can see what's happening ,sorry for low quality : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7t7QObFHN_g&feature=youtu.be
Again news phone is now defintly fixed,i backup the Efs folder and img ,now how to remove the Vodafon blotware?

[Q] How do I dump my branded ROM so that I can later restore it w/o a trace.

I've seen some questions related to that, but none so far managed to help me.
I'd like to start tinkering with custom roms but are afraid eventual warranty claim can be refused by the operator service center based on contents of ROM other than ones pushed by OTA.
The rom is a branded for particular operator with no chance of finding it in the wild, so I'd like to dump it first.
Here's the data:
2.3.6
Modem: N7000XXLB2
Kernel: 2.6.36-N7000XXLC1-CL1003701
Version: GINGERBREAD.XXLC1
CSC: N7000PLSLB1
The numbers look quite generic, is operator branding/customization restricted to some easily restartable partitions? What about simlock?
Best regards,
DS.
Go to www.sammobile.com and find any stockrom rom with a letter K at the last end, K means kies and its official. If you use those official rom to flash it, it will not produce binary count or yellow triangle that will void your waranty which means, whatever official rom you use it is covered with waranty. You dont need OTA or KIES to be able to claim your waranty provided you know how to use the pc odin or if rooted you can use also the mobileodin from google market were you can get it to flash any official rom you want.
+1 (Do not backup and restore a stock rom thru Nandroid). flash stock rom thru PC odin as mentioned above.
Thanks a lot guys!

Just answering myself for potential searchers:
No, it's not possible to do non inference GNote ROM backup. Every way taints your device but some of these traces can be later removed. Cleanest way to restore is really installing full (wipe) stock rom through PC odin, (but beware, reverting from stock ICS can be potentially dangerous.)
Why?
Backing up requires CWM kernel or root and one can't introduce either without a trace. The closest to nontrace way is to install some brick safe CWM equipped kernel using PC odin and do nandroind backup. In a you will trigger Samsung custom kernel binary counter (formally voids your warranty, yes, that's what you wanted to avoid), but apparently
that one can be reverted using Chainfire's triangle away utility. Welcome to the world of adventure!
Restore:
1. Install the very same kernel you used to make backup (avoid PC odin - your options are either CWM or mobile odin).
2. Reboot in recovery
3. Restore backup
4. Wipe cache
5. Install stock kernel
5. Reboot.
Never ever do any wipes / restores / formats / update.zip if your device is running stock ICS kernel!!
The safest way to avoid deadly mistakes and compatibility problems is always installing the same safe kernel (one that comes with CWM, most do) then reboot into recovery before doing any cwm stuff, install stuff, then (as last step) install kernel that works with rom on the device.
CM9 - CM10 - STOCK ICS - STOCK GB kernels are incompatible with each other and will cause your device to hang during bootup if mismatched with installed ROM.
I ultimately installed prerooted gb rom on the device and then loaded some ICS rom, loosing most personal data in the process (titanium backup does a lousy job restoring GB data on ICS). I avoided triangle and will use PC odin to restore it to some stock ICS if I need to return the device.
backup efs, root current install and check toolbox thread from drbketan on how to. Keep it at multiple locations.
To go back, you need to have a tar file, in www.sammobile.com of current version rom, belonging to that csc. You can take a version higher, if it exists at all there. If not but Kies does have update, you might need to get the temp rom file. This is tricky.
Then ultra clean install, on safe kernel (flashed clean way with mobile odin or ktool), reboot recovery, wipe everything (factory, cache, dalvik), then in mounts (take out external sd) format all except efs. Again only on safe kernel.
Boot into download mode, flash throught pc odin the downloaded rom, with pitfile(original obtainable in ketans thread sticky section development, your rom might be there to)
Reboot, check csc, imei pcodes, if they are altered or not available, you need to root again, put them back (efs backup) and reflash rom.
This should be the cleanest way of going back to a near factory condition.
Some traces may remain, but not much. All data is lost btw.
all at own risk.
edit:see next comment for rom file. I think dr ketans got the right one.

OTA / KIES Update Failing...

Hi All,
Quick bit of advice, Failing on the OTA update at the moment,
I'm running;
- Android: 4.0.3
- Baseband: N7000XXLPT
- Build: IML74K.XXLQ2
Wondering if it's the fact I am running SpeedMod K3-11 which is why it's failing? Anyone else seeing this?
If so - wondering if I can reflash the stock kernel via Mobile Odin...
I have the ROM - N7000XXLQ2_N7000XXLPT_N7000CPWLP4_HOME.tar.md5 file - Is it the case that I extract the ZImage from this file to obtain the Stock ROM Kernel?
As stated here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1371007
Note: I upgraded to this current version of ICS OTA - I DID NOT flash the above file via PC Odin.
I know I could get around it by reflashing in PC Odin but I'd like to not have to go that route..
Cheers
I was facing the same problem with OTA update on my stock rooted speedmod loaded Note. I thought the custom kernel is preventing the process. So my way was to flash the whole stock rom via PC Odin. Good thing it was a non-wipe version.
And yes, the zImage you pull from the rom is the stock kernel.
Cheers,
Not sure what's up with OTA..
However think the PC KIES issue is due to the fact that once again my PC seems to have lost the drivers needed to recognise the device in Download mode..... FFS...
Conditions for kies:
Need pcode, need csc and all stock components belonging to same rom, so all stock of same rom version. No root.
Never I have read kies updated a phone if with a rom for csc a, when wanting to uodating to another csc rom, bu just changing csc.
Ota can update a rooted phone as long as components again belong to one version of stock rom. Cf kernel of that rom no, the true kernel belonging to that rom with onky root yes. Ota also succeeds without pcode, most of the time.
Another condition is intact emei, which together with pcode can be secured by flashing efs backup, but you need proper backuo then.
You can midfy pcode by hex editing certain efs files, but it most of the time to tricky to achieve. You cannot edit emei that way. So make a proper efs backup
Edit: in the end efs backup and pc odin is all you need nd a safe kernel to be able to cleanse your installation should you wish to use different version and different csc. Then again changing csc triggers reset so onky change on safe kernel
Use this knowledge wisely

Cheers Baz,
So in effect as I'm running a stock ROM I'd need to flash the stock kernel zimage extracted from the ROM in order to update...
Or, backup everything, flash the new stock in Odin and restore my stuff...
Or finally flash GB, wipes, OTA / KIES update...
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
Yeah, the first should work
Otherwise go back indeed to gb.
Note I havent figured another variable out, on one stock rom version I wsnt able to ota, but going back version earlier I was.
Not sure what it was.
In the end, just pc oding it is faster

Yep seems PC ODIN is the best way, just didn't wanna have to set everything back up again..
