Guide: Slacker G2 dock modified for audio output. - Streak 5 Accessories
I have been tinkering with the Slacker G2 dock and have modified it to output audio through one of the ports. This involves soldering on very small traces and is not something that is easy to do.
Just as a general warning, I am not responsible for any damage that could result from this guide.
On the bottom of the circuit board solder a jumper wire between the +5v pin on the USB connector and the point shown in my picture.
On the top remove the components from the board, i removed them all, this is to keep the new audio connection from feeding back into the dock port on the streak.
On the top run a jumper from pin 10 to any Ground point on the board, i picked one a that was easy to get to.
Then run a jumper from pin 8 to the now empty solder point next to the connector marked C4
Then run a jumper from the solder point just under the R1 label to the point next to the connector marked C5
Congratulations your G2 Dock now has audio out, and as an added bonus it will charge your Streak twice as fast. Also make sure that your power source is able to supply a minimum of 1A or 1000mA of power.
I think this mod needed it's own thread, well done m8.
Question, is the 5v jumper cable underneath all you need to fit to increase charging capacity? I'm not too bothered about audio.
/edit my spelling...

Cheers, thanks
Did the +5v pin on the USB connector to get dock mode but now no audio from phone even if I disable speaker out in dock settings. Alarm is useless now, is that expected?
Choose the option to enable speaker output, because its the phone speaker not the dock speaker.

Thanks for the hint. I enabled speaker output and it works but I had to undock and redock for the new setting to kick-in.
I got two of these docks as they are the only thing I could find (because dell don't want to sell accessories in Australia) so I'll give your mod a go to get the audio working.
Thanks heaps

Try here - I have bought from this seller and would recommend her.
Agreed, I bought 2 (in case I messed one up) and it works great.
Further modification
After applying the 5v USB modification my Streak charges at twice the speed. The only problem was that it would not switch to dock mode without pressing down firmly.
Corrected the issue by removing more plastic around the PDMI connector and re-adjusted the angle so more is exposed. Now the Dell Streak docks without much effort.
Hey guys is it possible to dock the dell streak when its in a TPU style case? If not, does it look easy to mod to accept a dell streak + case? Also, does the audio out provide stereo sound? Thanks

The G2 dock can be modified by removing the plastic arround the port to accept most cases, in order to get any audio out of the dock you must do the mod to the pinouts to get stereo out.

I'm confused. The add for the dock claims its got audio-out and it comes with 2 different audio cables. Why does it need a modification for audio out?

The G2 uses different pins to control this output than the standard. This modification bypasses all that and makes it correct for the streak.
HDMI
Hey guys does this Slacker Dock also give us the ability to use HDMI from the Streak to say a Plasma TV...
I can see on the pick that it has an output but there is no mention of it by any if you in thread.
pls let me know.. cheers

Thanks for that.
Were is the best place to buy that that will deliver to Asia.

headphones? I didn't think about it until I got mine,"same as you are ordering" You won't hear it ring, unless you have headphones on, or external speakers plugged in. I love it, but have to remember you might miss calls. Quig

iPod connector is different unfortunately, although they look similar the pin layout is totally different
Troute said: iPod connector is different unfortunately, although they look similar the pin layout is totally different Click to expand... Click to collapse OP knows that. Visit the link. It is a converter that creates a usb port and an adio in port from ipod dock. This will let you plug your streak usb cable and an audio cable into the converter and then into the ipod dock. Seems like a good solution for anyone who has a bunch of ipod or iphone accessories sitting around. Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
stole my idea! I was gonna make one myself and then see if i could get into mass producing them but been really busy lately. I want to make a iPod female to PDMI male adapter thats small (about the size of a matchbox but skinnier) but $20 bucks for an extra cable from dell?!
That'll teachg me to read links properly...
But you'll have to have your pdmi cable going into the streak to power it AND a audio jack plugged ito the headphone port for audio. Definitely not an elegant solution.
Home HDMI dock in a car.....
Well, I've been thinking about this for a while, and I was hoping to get some feedback. I've just purchased a Dell Streak (7) home dock. I was wondering, if the Dell Streak (5) can fit on this dock in such a way, that it would remain stable if placed in a car. I've seen the Car dock, and I'm not that impressed. And as far as I can tell, I'd need to plug in a jack in the headphone port, to get sound thru the car. With the Home dock, it'd look neat, I could get a HDMI audio adapter, and a USB hub that's powered from 12v (mp3car.com). So, mainly, I'm asking how firmly does a Dell streak sit in the Home dock? THanks in advance. -B
also...will the USB port power the dock? are there any holes in my plan? Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
I would say the biggest hole in your plan is the risk of damaging the pdmi socket on your streak, thus rendering it totally useless - it just doesn't have enough support.
My Streak sits tightly in its' 5 dock, but not tightly enough that I'd trust it on a bumpy car ride.
well...that sucks. thanks for the input. ill figure something out I'm sure Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
Motorola Car Dock
Is anyone using the Moto Car Dock? I was looking at getting one for my wife but after reading a few reviews I'm a little confused about something. I see it comes with a 3.5mm cable but do you have to use it? One reviewer said when the phone was in the dock they could not get any sound out of the built in speaker. That doesn't sound right to me but I was hoping someone could confirm or deny that bit of info. Thanks, Kurt
I just got my Moto Navigation Dock yesterday and am loving it. I can confirm that the dock itself does not change your audio output. It is the special usb/audio cable that changes that. If you use a normal USB cable instead of the hybrid one, the speaker on the Droid 4 still sounds. I just went out to my car and tried this with my Droid 2 charger and the Droid 4 dock. Also, beware because the Verizon branded Navigation Dock kit does not include any USB cable or vehicle charger. The Motorola branded one does include the hybrid cable and the dual port vehicle charger. On a side note, my only disappointment with the dock is that the clip at the top is engaged the screen is secured from flipping open. This is unlike all the previous Moto Droid chargers, which all allowed access to the physical keyboard while docked. If you have any other questions or want me to try out any combinations, let me know!
Thanks for the reply. What you said about the cable makes sense. That's exactly the information I needed. Thank You. Kurt
Can you use the camera with this dock, or is it obscured by the plastic?

Looking for decent car dock
Sony's car dock is a joke - it's a generic dock for all their phones, may as well just buy some equally crappy thing off ebay for a pittance. I'm looking for a proper dock with charging and audio-out built in. Having to plug and unplug USB and headphone jacks every time you dock and undock your phone is ridiculous. In fact, I don't know if I can commit to buying the Xperia Z without one.
Yes I am with you need a car dock with charger. Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using Tapatalk 2
Wonder if you could take the desktop cradle, glue it onto your dash, then re solder some wires to get the car plug 12v... Seriously, it might be a way if Sony doesn't release one
I've considered modding the desk dock, would also require adding some sort of clip to hold it through bumps/whatever. Far from ideal though, and a fair bit of effort I'd prefer not to go to... :-/

Not cheap but very good car docks, only Xperia Z not yet available: http://www.brodit.com
Maikel205 said: Not cheap but very good car docks, only Xperia Z not yet available: http://www.brodit.com Click to expand... Click to collapse Yeah, they're better than nothing I guess, but they always seem to use power cords that are moulded into the unit, and none of their stuff supports audio out. Take a look at Samsung's car docks for their flagship phones as an example of how to do it right - microUSB input for charging (means you can take your power from whatever source you like, useful for eliminating ground loops), and a 3.5mm phono socket in case you want to connect to an AUX port on your head unit (because BT sucks). EDIT: Oh, and particularly for the Xperia Z, a car mount that uses the dock connector - rather than USB - is extremely useful, because otherwise you've got to fiddle around opening the USB socket cover to connect a charger.

The way they did it for the galaxy s 2 (i9100 version at least) was how all manufacturers should, best car dock I've owned by far.
I have a Motorola Atrix and the official car dock. It work like a charm and you can even remove a bracket to fit a cased phone in it. Now my Atrix is dead so yeah ... Wondering why manufacturers don't all just release official docks.
any news here? Still no official dock, afaik, so has anyone heard of a third party dock for the z?

The idea of modding a normal dock could be a good idea if a oem one doesn't surface.
From the pictures I've seen the desk dock takes a Micro USB input so wouldn't be that difficult to mod. Brodit bracket to fix it to the car interior, NFC tag on the dock to toggle BT, screen brightness, volume up etc. Not sure quite how you'd get the phone to stay in the dock though, particularly portrait. Hi-tech elastic band?
I suppose Brodit will release a holder for the Xperia Z similar to the one for the Xperia V. It will use the dock power connectors on the side. I just wished they allow any micro-USB cable to the holder, not having their own soldered cable.

As others have said though, it's a shame they use soldered/molded cables, rather than allowing microusb.
