Well none, the Samsung Galaxy S we have dont have yet LCDs . Its all stupid Amoled
And its up to you.Its in the kernel. You can try the voodoo sharpness fix which should be in voodoo or speedmod kernel which has something similar (not sure its still voodoo fix) I personally love and use speedmod kernel. It makes the fonts cleaner and smoother.
But depends on you what you want . Some dont like it.

Reasons for Kernel Change?

What are the reasons for trying different Kernels? I have Flashed to Darky's 7.5 and I am not big into playing games on my phone just basic Calling,Texting some simple games. Are there some Big advantages I could benefit from if I OC/UV with different Kernel?
Thanks

Overclocking will make the phone faster and undervolting will give you better battery life as you crank up your processor speed but both can mess with your phone as you get toward extremes on both ends. Overclock too much and your phone goes crazy. Undervolt too much and you get sleeping death and stuff like that.
With the type of user you are I would recommend xcal's kernel, a 2.2.1 rom and do not enable the lagfix, which I believe Darky's rom fits the bill. You will not notice a difference in performance and you won't have to deal with an issues relating to oc/uv. If you are a hardcore gamer then you might need to oc but I play asphalt 5 all the time with neither and never have any issues with lag or stutter.

Thanks for reply. I just love to tinker with things so though I will probably not fool with changing Kernel now I am sure I'll get the itch and try it once to see how I like OC and UV at some point......
Thanks again
I would suggest glitterballs kernel, it is based on 2.2.1 source, uses voodoo which you can choose to disable, and is oc to 1200 but you can opt not to oc. I find it to be very stable

I am getting ready to Flash Darky's 7.7(I have 7.5 now). I think I read that 7.7 has Voodoo enabled when you Flash(before you had to Disable Lag fix to get Voodoo). Will glitterballs kernel work with 7.7 and Voodoo already installed? Also is this the the glitterball you talking about?

Speedmod kernel that just came out is good and snappy. Its a battery sipper too!!! And no OC/UV.

I have read that a lot of guys really liking Speedmod but if I read correctly you can't have Voodoo running and Voodoo runs with Darky 7.7 Flash automatically. I am sure there a way to disable Voodoo in 7.7 I just need to find out how. Or I can be completely wrong about SpeedMod and Voodoo.

[Q] possible returning to sgs

Hello!I was an owner of a galaxy s phone and thinking of trading my desire Z, for a galaxy s again in case a few of the issues the phone had, are fixed by now..
so here i go :
1) does the new voodoo sharpness fix really make a difference?i used to hate how text looked like when zoomed back when i had sgs..the colour fix seems to be great from the photos i have seen..But does the sharpness hack actually make up for the unused subpixels?
2) has there been any fixes on the GPS scene? With my curent phone i can get gps lock in 5 seconds inside the house..i am not asking for something as insane, but is it possible to get fixes now?
3)have lag fixes evolved the last 3 months?I remember using xda lag fix but the phone still was unresponsive at times..
4)Any cm7 ports for sgs yet?

1. Personally, I don't notice that much of a difference with Voodoo sharpness. You really can't fix it. All PenTile matrix displays look like this.
2. GPS seems to be a hit and miss. I can get a lock in 10 seconds on average.
3. Lag does not exist anymore. Samsung stepped up the rfs with froyo builds, and either voodoo or ultimate lagfix is incorporated in almost every rom and kernel now.
4. CM7 is making great progress. There are still a few issues that need to be resolved, but you can go build it and try it out for yourself right now.

I will rethink about it then..Even when i held my sgs next to my old slcd desire the different was worlds appart..i will still like to hear more opinions please..
Using hardcores kernel seems to make this thing fly, so lag is no longer an issue IMHO.
My gps locks within 10 seconds inside and faster outside, this is using one of the recent modems.
I never had an issue with the sharpness of the display so I can't comment on that front.

Does this really fix the gps problem? I was playing around with the thought to send the phone back to repair.. So is the fix AND the accuracy fixed in gingerbread? So no more 30m offset sometimes and waiting for a fix for minutes?

The problem isn't really with the software, its hardware oriented, so Voodoo sharpness can't really do anything about the "spotty" appearance of the display. This post helps to show the difference between the PenTile matrix used in our phones and a conventional RGB layout.

Its nowhere near as effective in real life as it is in those pictures. And you have to remember that the photos are simluated. Its likely that a regular screenshot was taken and over sharpened in an image editor like photoshop.
My eyes are very sharp, so thats why I hate reading text on this display(but not a deal breaker, I still love my phone). Other people I know don't see the ""spottiness" at all. In my opinion, if you can see the spottiness because you have good/average eyes, Voodoo sharpness won't really change much for you.
I wouldnt trade super amoled for anything else (except maybe super amoled +). Sure, pentile isn't super sharp but its a small price to pay for superb contrast and great colours. Trade it and try hardcores kernel with sharpness + color fix.

[KERNEL] KA6 Source + Voodoo.zip

So this is my first kernel. Yes it is very basic and doesn't have all the bells and wissles like other kernels out there, but after initial boot, my phone does seem to boot in 5 - 10 seconds, which is faster than any kernel I have tried. This is a test kernel but is stable, I am just looking for some feedback.
Kernel :
Stock KA6 Source
Voodoo5
I plan on adding more to it such as speed mods, voodoo sound and color, but that is to come. Thanks.
Will try out your kernels when a few other features are added on as there already are great close-to-stock kernels like OverStock and Categorically Worthless. Keep up the good work, though! I hope you end up with a great stock-ish kernel as much as I love stock simplicity and battery life; but Voodoo Sound is a must.

I'd vote for a bone stock with/without voodoo option sans BLN with battery life in mind. I know some of us bailed on the BLN kernels because of battery issues when using them with noled. Not sure if anyone ever figured out how to get around it. Seems like anyone using noled had battery issues on the CW or Overstock kernel even though the performance was much improved.

Yeah definitely, I dont know if its the BLN or if I still have to tweak the kernel but the battery life does seem a bit mediocre. While not in use it drains about 2 - 4 % and hour which isn't that bad.
I do plan on making several different kernels with different mods in each one. Starting with Bone Stock Kernel to Kernel with all Voodoos, BLN, Mem, Speed, etc.
Still learning how to tweak it. The easy part is compiling

Since I am not a programmer myself, I am not sure if I make sense or not. But why not just beat all that crap Sammy patched into the kernel instead of working on other fancy stuff. Of course Voodoo goodies are proven to be good, and speed is important to many people. But why do we need extra free memory when Android automatically manages memory and kills apps and processes. BLN is great but stock backlight is just as good, and many of us deactivate it in the control app anyway. If kernel is efficient and fast enough, I think OC/UV are not necessary to begin with, man it's 1 ghz processor, it can do better without being overclocked! I don't know if you are yet skillful enough to look through all the coding Samsung put into the kernel just to make it as horrible as possible, but I am sure one day you'll be there and take all the crap out of the stock kernel and make it work even better, faster and more efficient while keeping it simple and functional, as much as I hope.
Voodoo Sound is still a must for me because it's such a major improvement that helps make my ears happier and my life better.
Good luck!

Haha with 6 million lines of code for a kernel I doubt Ill get through .01% of it
Im just seeing what I can and can't do at this point really, and its been a fun experience!

You now know how much ignorant I have been. Although I learned bits and pieces of Basic/Pascal/C++ back in the days and took a couple of Java classes back in college, I never dealt with anything longer than a thousand lines of codes. Should I praise Samsung now for all that work they've put into building firmwares, and stop whining about Sammy not releasing GB..? =P
But I still hope you focus on rather a simple kernel that may not be as fast as other OC kernels yet is stable and reliable.

[i9000] Poor / Bad / Awful Sound Quality on CM9

Was very happy to see the latest "Stable" CM9 released a few days ago. Been using it, and it looks like a winner!
Then I listened to some music. Oi! What the hell, did I just bust my headphones?
The sound quality is awful to say the least. It's always been like this for earlier ICS builds.
Can anyone shed some light as to why CM9/ICS audio quality is really bad? Did a search and all I can find was a thread saying that the RC1 candidate had this problem due to an audio routing issue.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
am looking to flash to cm9's stable release as well and seeing your post has made me think otherwise... so far are there any other bugs or issues you've encountered?
By the way, i've only flashed ROMS a few times, i'm currently running cm7.2.. is there any particular method to follow if i were to flash cm9? or do i just install the zip file through cwm recovery?
thanks mate! cheers!
The only major issue is the sound quality. I've tried CM7.2 and the sound is superb, with CM9 the drums turn to tin can drumming! LOL
What's worse if you enable any DSP effect (which is fab in CM7.2) it just makes it much worse.
Other than that, the build is stable fast and very nice! It looks like an entirely new phone altogether. Now if we can get this issue fixed on the sound, it would be a proper release!
I've tested using Apollo Player, PowerAMP and Winamp. All of them sound really bad.
Hope this helps!
An update. Apparently, the cardboard drumming is only apparent for AAC HEv2 converted files. It goes away listening to anything 128kbps or more. BUT! Sound is still nowhere near as good as on CM7.2. It's like night and day.
This may be an obvious question, but have you installed Voodoo Sound?
decided to flash cm9 already last night and everything went really well. flashed it in less than 10 minutes.
anyway, so far sound quality isn't really that bad. I'd say average. it's not great, but not bad. haven't tried any other formats rather than mp3s and wavs but they seem to sound okay.
have you tried reflashing?
Try devil3 ics kernel. Voodoo Sound should fix the probelm
Sent from my GT-i9000, cm10 alpha, devil3 1.1.3
Thanks for that, tried it out and also decided to flash to TAJB v7.1
It's a JB ROM based on CM10 and the devil kernel. Sound is better.

Thank you all for your replies. Yes, I have installed Voodoo sound. Well done on supercurio for creating that. Unfortunately, all it did was amplify the rotten sound signal. Just hearing louder cardboard drumming on it.
Have posted this issue on the CM forums and haven't received any reply LOL
Testing audio quality on cutom ROMs (CM and AOKP)
Hi there (audiophile here, so haters stay away)! Been searching the forums and Google for a discussion on this, finally found it..
Been looking for a custom ROM for my SGS (I use a SGSII as my actual phone, and the SGS as a separate media player, since I can completely strip the SGS BARE ), something to basically turn it from a phone into a media player (like the Samsung Galaxy Player) lol.. Because I heard great things about supercurio's voodoo sound and the wolfson DAC I had to give it a go
As a side note, voodoo sound gives me great amplifications without distortion and the sound is good. I don't think it's leaps and bounds better in QUALITY compared to the Yamaha in the SII, but the amplification definitely is (and I need the amp because I use beyerdynamic 32 Ohm cans which are pretty hard to drive )
Anyhow, I digress... Tried different ROMS, all with voodoo sound installed (i.e. all rooted). Tried stock Gingerbread, along with CM7.2 (Stable), CM9 (Nightly), AOKP M5 and M6.
Perhaps it is the "placebo effect", but I find the dynamic range and sound-stage is completely destroyed by the custom ROMs (or is it the kernels?).. The only ROM that I can listen to comfortably is the stock ROM (with stock rooted kernel by Chainfire). Does anyone agree with my observations? Would love to see if it's just me or I might be onto something?
I haven't tried CM9 stable on my SGS yet so maybe that's improved. But I am really torn. The stock rom is f***-ing (are we allowed to swear on these forums?!) slow! The phone is nearly unusable compared to AOKP/CM.
So what's the solution guys?! Are we tied to the stock rom to achieve the best audio quality? Or is there a custom rom out there that is lightening fast but preserves audio reproduction quality?!
Please discuss your findings here!
Cheers!
Thanks for your post there, I thought I was the only one! It looks like we won't get much more assistance as the devs are probably focusing on higher priorities right now.
I too have this problem. I used to have a nokia 500 , with which i had downloaded many original songs from nokia music , but since i used mobile data to download , the songs are 32kbps bitrate.
In cm9 , the bass cracks like anything. in cm10 , the bass is smooth and nice sounding. I tried copying cm10 audio libs to cm9 , but no changes occur.
The only way to solve this problem is to use songs with a bitrate of 160kbps +. Even then , cm10 has better sound quality. CM9 is a lot more stable , wish someone could port cm10 audio libs to cm9
Damn, cheers for that feedback. Nice to hear that at least the sound on CM10 is good! CM9 music... urgh... A pity since music is a major driver for me.

Kernel for Jelly Bean 4.2.2

I am using Mackay Kernel with my CyanogenMod 10.1 and I need to know if this kernel is the best kernel for Jelly Bean or there is another better...Any suggestions would be helpful...Thanks in advance...And one more thing what kernel to use when I am at stock Gingerbread Rom?
Well i would just compare the different features of the available Kernels to see what suits you best, then use them to compare smoothness, batterylife etc....i for example prefer semaphore because of the autobrightness, call volume boost, bigmem and custom voltage feature..so i guess it depends on what you are looking for.....
For gingerbread i think galaxian was a very decent kernel.

Thanks a lot...Now I know what kernel to use for my Galaxy S... Thanks again
II'm currently running CM10.1 with Mackay.
Previously I've used Semaphore and I have also tried Devil Kernel. Both those and the stock CM10.1 kernel have caused lag when I play games, the touchscreen became unresponsive/late response when I played games, music was unbereable to listen to because of the constant skipping.
With Mackay, I've experienced no such thing. I believe it handles the RAM (I have more free ram, which I believe gives me less lag) differently on my phone and I even experience less battery loss when idle.
My favorit kernel is Devil. For more reasons. Fast, stable, bigmem, overclock, power consumption
...
