An app called timeout3g, I'm using
The paid version. 9 hours moderate usage and only dropped 20%. It turns off data when phone is in standby. BUT also enables it at preset times to check for mail and push stuff. Awesome stuff.

Using it too, and agree, does the job well.
You should change the thread title to:
[APP] Timeout3g
People will just ignore it if they think it's another post about battery life as there's about 10,000 already in the general section
Apologies, I should of known better. Been a while since I've posted in forums. Being an ex iphone owner

It only disables data or can also switch 3G/2G ?
edit: i looked the dev page, looks like the current android api don't allow apps to switch 3G/2G directly
I've got a Wiko King (same as A110) but Timeout3G don't work on Jellybean ... :'(
Who can help me ?

Hello, i'm using virtuos rom 1.31. It's really great but my wifi connection drops down to zero after a few minuts. I cannot download anything using wifi. Does somebody knows how to solve this problem....
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using XDA App
Does it drop while downloading large files? My wifi works fine but as soon as I go to download large files, sometimes even 5mb files my wifi drops out although the ICON stays fully lit like it has full bars. I cannot seem to find a fix. Its annoying when trying to download 100+ mb files when your wifi drops out every 4-5 mbs
Thats right, when i switch back to mobile internet everything works fine.

Same here, are you running any custom rom? I'm running android rev 1.1.6, i've tried to play around with wifi settings and even downloading "wifi fixing" apps, nothing seems to work. Hope someone has an answer, there was a thread about this on the HTC Hero forums but they have no solution either just yet.
Anybody?
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using XDA App
when in wifi settings, click the menu button and go to advanced settings.
set the sleep policy to never and choose "best wifi performance".
That helped mine a ton
It's already like that!

Did you activate home from facebook settings. Log on to facebook go to setting at very bottom activate it.
Works! Not sure I like it though...

I found out that with Facebook home if you set your other (whichever your using) launcher (I use Nova) instead of fb home as you permanent launcher ans still leave fb home active then it takes the place of your lock screen. Looks really nice.
Well it works for me on Ice Cold 8.8 and worked for me as well on Open Kang. So I see no reason why it should do the same with all other roms though I haven't tried a Sense rom lock screen.

Facebook Home replaces the Sense lock screen. That seems to me not very comfortable.
It was just an idea for those who would like fb home but don't want it as their default launcher. Also you do know that the lock screen is not for security purpose unless you PIN it. Its purpose is to just lock phone from mistakenly activating any apps or butt dialing. So there really is no reason for anyone to feel uncomfortable about it.

Just installed it for a longer look this morning. It really grows on you. I normally don't spend a lot of time w/ Facebook so this is a great way to see updates.

Very good. As for the ROM?
I've used the UNOFFICIAL CM10.1 JellyBean Nightlies / M-series and it is simply the best for my Inspire. The nightly builds for ALL of the JB ROMS seem to mess with GPS or Bluetooth, so I just gave up on them entirely. I'm a flashaholic and try everything, but this is the daily driver... No bugs

works on my dhd, just if this work on unrooted samsung galaxy tab 7". Im planning to install on my wife tablet.
Hello guys I had flashed slimbean 4.2.2 and I think its an awesome ROM
But there is a bug and I posted this here because I wanted to inform AHD owners with Slimbean ROM installed
And as you see in the attachments I have proof the data cycle restarted then I decided to listen to Pandora and the out of nowhere most of my apps had used about 1gb each
I quickly rushed to turn the data off
And also it says Pandora had used 17GB!! In just one day
And here's a text message with proof of how much data I actually used
I just dialed *Data# and the it sends you a free text with your data usage
I hope this clears some stuff up

Was wondering if someone could tell me why the Google keyboard is using over 10gb of data in less then 30 days on WiFi. I'm using the Purity 4.4.2 ROM if that is not any help.

Are you streaming? Or downloading tons of roms? Can only imagine it's mistakenly ascribing other data use to keyboard. That's crazy.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk
No not streaming or downloading Roms. Really only use it to check mail, surf the web and some games.

Language Data?
Data
Not sure what you mean by language data. But I haven't loaded anything that has to do with the keyboard. Its the one that came with the rom.
Here is a screen shot of the data usage if it helps any..

I've had the same problem, just started this morning out of the blue. 8.9GB in background data on wifi. Crazy. So I've disabled Google keyboard and gone to Swiftkey. Using OmniROM and have been for the last month.
This is on My Xperia SP not Nexus 7 but I think the issue is the same.
I have exactly the same issue with the same ROM (but on a Nexus 4).
~ 10 GB of background data in the last 30 days over wi-fi, insane.
I have realized it only yesterday, at the moment I have switched the input method from vocal to the classic one, and now it SEEMS ok, but I need more time to confirm it.
You do know to voice typing goes online right?

It can do offline, but I'm not sure if it opts for online vs offline if it has a connection or what.
But seriously, someone would have to be writing a book to use gigs of data like this.
I still think the value is inaccurate somehow. It just seems outrageous that it could possibly use so much data. I suspect this is a case of invalid data from dirty flashes or restoration of data.
I'd say anyone suffering from this do a full factory reset and see if it starts accumulating data usage again. And a sniff of the data would be good, nobody seems to have done that yet either.
There is an AOSP keyboard avaliable on the F-Droid repository. Looks like stock googleinputmethodlatin and does not leak data.... For those who are genuinely concerned about Google's data collection....
Dead Cookies leave no trails...
Well, I've got the exact same problem on my Xperia U with CyanogenMod 11, when I get home I'll try flashing the AOSP keyboard instead and see if it has this problem..
EDIT: on February 4th I flashed the AOSP keyboard instead of the Google one and, as you can see, in the last 3 days it didn't use any data, so it's a Google Keyboard problem ?
Inviato dal mio Xperia U utilizzando Tapatalk
Told ya! I had similar problems on my nexus 7 on the latest KOT49H firmware. Simply uninstalled all the Google keyboards (Japanese/Chinese , latin, hindi &c) after installing aosp keyboard. Much safer.....

Nexus 5 owner here, found this thread through Google.
My keyboard used up 5 gigabytes in the 45 minutes that I had the device flashed. What the heck? Titanium couldn't uninstall it (couldn't locate APK) so I had to manually trash the APK using a root file manager. How is this even possible!? I have unlimited data, but imagine what it would be for people with capped plans?

It's simple; it's NOT using such data. Nobody has proven it is. There is a bug or something here.
Just freeze it and use a different keyboard. Done.
All Google apps are crappy.
In my humble opinion of course.

My provider thinks otherwise. I had no plan but was scrutinously using my 3G for something specific and taking note each time of how much data I used. Then at one point my keyboard kicked in and sent out 15 MB of data at a rate of 30 cents per MB.... Thanks Google Keyboard...
I am interested in sniffing out the data and finding out why it is using so much of it, but I guess that means rooting my phone :') it's still stock android 5.0.2
My phone does not give info on data sent through wifi
OLD POST but my coworker is due $330 USD now because his Google keyboard just ate 30 GB on mobile data..... yes..... 30 GB on mobile data.... he is on a Huawei Mate 8. If u want screenshot I can upload tomorrow
I want anybody that know how or trying to learn how getting bluetooth tethering working on the Galaxy gear to post their methods on how they got it to work. I tried every way possible with no success. Only way I haven't tried yet was flashing a international Rom.

Already a few threads for this. Either use a rom with Bluetooth tethering, or use pdanet with wifi turned on in network spoofer (xposed module)
(all require null_ rom as stock does not include tethering profile)
Bluetooth internet is slow in general regardless of device
