Screen Burn In? - Nook Color General

Just picked up a NC and noticed an odd screen burn in that reads "Runnin End Batt 69%" and some other smaller text when I load this page in the browser: http://jasonfarrell.com/misc/deadpixeltest.php?p=4 (Look straight down at the screen @ 100% brightness)
Does anyone else's do this or is it just mine? I'd hate to exchange it again... (3 dead pixels last time)

Mines fine at that site..... sorry
Sent from one of those missing Droids

What would be funny is a site to test your burn-in that actually has subtle text in it.

Tested two other units at the store with the manager (happy to see me of course ) and yeah, my unit was the only one that had it so we exchanged it. Third time is the charm.

dead pixels on hd7 screen

so i ordered my hd7 on tmobiles online store a day after it came out.....i had it shipped over night.....so i get the phone the next day and start it up and im loving it so far but i notice these white dots on the right hand side of the tiles and the were indeed dead pixels so i called 611 and told them what the deal was and they said that it was the first report of this nature to get to them....i told them i wanted a replacement and they told me i would have to pay for another phone as a deposit and once they got mine back i would get a refund......that realy upset me and ended hanging up on them so i went to my local tmobile store and told them what the deal was and the manager was kind enough to do an exchange at the store......that gentlemen was awsome!.......so guys check your screens and make sure you dont have any dead pixels.....if tou open your web browser and go to the screen where it shows all the tabs you have open exit them and that leaves you with a black screen and you can see if you have any.......ide like to know if theres anymore bad screens out there

Do you know if there is a way to fix it? i really dont want to get it replaced.. i just came from the mytouch 4g and it already had enough problems >_< and do you know if it will get worse.
You can go to youtube.com/watch?v=liMySLZkF5o and watch the video on your phone. It should help you with the bad pixel situation...
No guarantees though, but I guess its better than nothing. Some people in the comments for the video said pushing on the bad pixel helped too
Also watch out if your epileptic lol

another one popped up you have got to be kidding me. HTC is REALLY ticking me off. their screens are SH!T. screen was defect on mytouch 4g, screen sucked on mytouch slide, screen is getting stuck/dead pixels on HD7 now.
Im tempted to just get a focus, even though i love this phone..
Yeah, i have tried putting preasure on it, but its hard since the screen is glass lol.

Nexus 7 Backlight issue

I just got my nexus tablet today and right after turning it on, I noticed that the backlight comes in very uneven from the left. I can pretty much see exactly where each light is shining from and it creates bright spots on the left of the screen. Add to that, it appears some of the backlights aren't even working as the lower half of my screen is dark most of the time and there are gaps in the lighting.
I will post pix in a bit.
Did you try the "fix" for the screen? I read from another forum in General that has you press on the left side of the bezel fairly strongly to press the clip on that side back into place? Mine is sitting at home in its box as I'm away at the moment, but I'm sure I will be nervous and praying for a good unit when I open mine up. Given my luck on that last few android devices I've purchased, I may very well be in the aisle with the ones with defects. If it had an issue, such as backlight problems, dead pixels, etc., I will be sure to call Google up and ask for an exchange. I'm very excited, but nervous as well. I'd like to know though the portion of devices that are actually defective. We all know that if you have a problem, you are much more likely to complain and post than the thousands out there that have the device and have no problems. Let's hope the amount is in the small minority, and is not something wide spread like the old Galaxy Vibrant and its GPS signal.
I will try the firm pressing... As far as complainers, its true. The ones with bad devices will have a much louder presence online. At any rate. Im severely disappointed.
I was on hold for half an hour before I just gave up.
I should have bought this in store from a B&M retailer so I could just return it instead. At least my iPad still works...
Okay, here are the pix...

thanks for the sympathy! I hope so too, but contacting google for support is a PITA. I already sent an email but I will call again tomorrow.
Honestly, this is the 2nd and last time I will purchase any physical device straight from google. Trying to contact customer support is such a challenge. I'll just go back to amazon for all my purchasing needs
Had the exact same issue 100%. Easy fix, 58 minutes on hold, a 30 second conversation, and they are overnighting me a new one. Stick this one in that box when it gets here, apply RMA label and drop off at UPS store or call them to come get it if that's better for you sir.
Your leds are dead. Definitely need a replacement.

I would be happy to get you have lol mine is half green with like glitches in the screen so I though oh ok maybe it's just stuck pixels so I turned on the pixel finder app and it's a beautiful color of which ever color all colors are perfect so that's confusing.

Yeah, I just got off the phone with them about 15 minutes ago after a 53 minute wait. I believe they are 24 hour service.
thanks, I guess ill get some BF3 in while I wait lol!
strange... they said they will contact me again later on. I already got the email from them with just the basic ticket info. He didn't mention anything about overnighting me another unit.
I'm debating if I should just ask for a full refund instead of an exchange...
after passing the 48 hour window they originally said, I called in again. Now they are telling me to wait till Monday.
If come Monday I hear nothing I will just call my CC company and stop payment. This is ridiculous.
Looks like a gap has developed allowing backlight to seep through. Try reseating the assembly as others have stated or just RMA.

I dont think its simply a screen separation issue because the lower LED's act irratically vs the top LEDs. Its more noticeable when the screen dims. The top will dim normally whereas the bottom LED will just shut off completely.

16gb Nexus 7 in stock in the Play Store.

Just got an email about it being in stock says it ships in 3-5 business days.

- screen flicker with lowest brightness, WIFI and GPS enabled
- erratic touch input when not grounded
- raised screen relative to bezel
- ghosting
- dead pixels

I'll try to remember to test this. I just put my order in with Google this morning after returning two flickering devices from retailers.
What's the best way to test the erratic touch input when not grounded and ghosting?
Just put my order in with the Play Store. I'll read up on the issues and post an update if no one else does.
I guess time will tell.
I ordered mine on July 3rd from the Google Play Store arrived last Thursday.
Did the shim fix for the screen separation issue basically works great now.
i just ordered mine as well, really really excited now

Easy. Place N7 on top of original box, make sure it's not connected to charger, you're not touching it with second hand, open up browser and go to cnn.com, pinch to zoom, select blank portion of page, hold down with fat portion of index finger and observe the browser wiggle, increase/decrease in size, opening up new tab, etc. due to erratic touch input.
Had mines on Pre-order from GameStop since July 19th. Can't wait!! Everyday I get more anxious. I hope it's here before the Weekend so I can have an entire weekend to use it!! LoL!! =.D
Update, seems perfect! No dead pixels I can tell, no screen raise, it's an awesome little device!
I just got my new device from Google that I ordered on Monday...
I have screen flickering and major ghosting. I asked if there's a way to tell if I get a new build and why my device still had the issues. He said there's no way to tell if you have a newer build and that most people get new devices, but some get refurbs... lucky me...
Not happy right now, but a replacement is on its way.

Nexus 4 screen issue ( Not a troubleshooting topic)

Hi everyone, i would like to share a experience i've had with both of my nexus 4 ordered from the google play with you other n4 possessors.
This is not a troubleshooting topic it's just a kind of survey i'm doing.
I've received my nexus 4 in december, and i noticed there was something going on with the display, some horizontal lines stayed on the screen while i was swiping the homescreen or changing image/scrolling webpages. Then after a while i noticed there was a dark horizontal line on the left side of the screen. This line doesn't appear on white images, it can be seen more on grey or dark backgrounds, e.g. put the 4th default wallpaper and scroll all the way to the left and you should be able to see it. Also, this line became more and more marked on the screen depending on the temperature of the battery, e.g. while charging or playing heavy games or flash player. I called google play ordered a replacement and i got it the day after, turn it on, install all my apps, and the line was STILL there, also on the new device.
My question is, am I so unlucky that i've received 2 faulted devices from google or everyone has this problem? can anyone please check?
P.s. put brightness to the maximum when checking.
where is this line appearing i cant understand

On the left of the screen, horizontal dark line, it can be seen better on a gray or dark image, such as the wallpaper i suggested
The line actually appears when I'm swiping away recent apps..hadn't noticed until now. It could probably be fixed with switching roms though. I'm on JD's perfect android right now. This is my 3rd nexus device, no problems on it, 303k.

Thanks for checking justin, can you also check it again when the battery gets warmer? like just play a heavy 3d game or charge the phone. it should be more marked, sometimes i can even see it over my power control widget :crying:
Yeah my line is different I believe, I put the phone to charge and put on grand theft auto. Nothing really appeared.

Anyone else willing to check their displays and help me out?
Are you sure you don't mean vertical line? on the left side.
If so then yes mine has it.
I can't see any line on my display
oh god guys i meant Vertical..meangreenie is right.. sorry everyone, i mean vertical line on the left of the screen!
I've got 2 vertical lines on both sides of the screen (left and right) and they're not that much visible but they're always there. IT just looks as if those sides were a little bit dimmer than the rest of the screen.
I have same problem on my n4,there's grey line on left screen which more visible when the device getting heat..is it possible to disappear by itself after few time?or should i claim my warranty?thx before and sorry for my bad english
Guys I'm having the same issue. Should I claim my warranty? Or any solution to make it disappear? For me this is a very costly phone and I don't wanna take any risks. I can see the line in most apps even in chrome while typing in address bar the window greys out. At that time its perfectly visible. Its jus 1 month old n now I'm **** scared

Guys please help
I'm glad I caught this thread. I bought a refurbished Nokia wireless charging plate. I didn't have the good sense to check XDA first, and sure enough the thing has compatibility issues. I thought I'd just leave it on the plate overnight to settle in as some people have suggested, and after about an hour my screen was violently flashing on and off with pronounced vertical lines over the screen (discoloration, not a line of pixels). After a while the lines mostly faded, but I can still see them just as described in this thread when I pull down the notification tray or open any app with a grey background (like the gallery).
I just got an RMA today. I'm wondering whether we've all experienced power issues or if I just didn't notice the lines until I was looking for them.

I'm not so sure that this is even a problem that an RMA is going to fix. Like I said, I only noticed it when I was looking for it. Might just be a charactaristic of a batch of panels, more like a light leak than damage.
However, if it is damage there is no way you're fixing it without an RMA. It's clearly not a software level issue.
I thought I was the only one. Mine has it but I barely notice it anymore.

Been using my nexus 4 for a month and noticed this just a few hours ago. Scared the **** out of me and still am. But just to confirm, this is common on our phone....right?

Nexus 6 Screen Burn

This is my first AMOLED device, and probably my last. I got my nexus 6 a few weeks ago and have been using it moderately. Screen brightness never went above 50%. I already have a very noticeable burn on the bottom bar. Unfortunately have no warranty so I cant return it. Very disappointed. Didnt expect to find such a problem on such a great device. Is there a way to fix it? How bad can this get in the future? I would appreciate someone with such an experience to give me some advice.
If you don't mind and still have warranty, send it to Motorola.
What I got was just like new in a retail box.
I described my experience including video at the end of the page here
http://androidforums.com/threads/screen-burn-in.883020/page-5
I noticed it the first time I looked (with gray screen) which was after I had the phone about a month. I've now had the phone 6+ months and situation is the same...Only noticeable when I look carefully with the right background. So my concern level now is much less than when I first noticed it.
I don't bother with the app you set up to age/burn your nav bar at full brightness for awhile to even things out. I do occasionally run chrome inverted in order to give a crude dark theme (good for battery) which has the extra benefit of aging/burning the nav bar area that doesn't usually age...helps to even things out

I dont have warranty so thats out of the option, but if changing the screen is affordable I might consider that on a later date.

Well as long as the current quality doesnt deteriorate, I could live with it. But considering the amount of burn in just one month, Im skeptical about it in the long run.

I have had my device for over a year and no burn in whats so ever. Not even a little bit. Makes me wonder what your moderate use is.
So the device is used, if you've got no warranty?
@JonesL: He likely did buy used. The warranty only applies to the original purchaser, thus no warranty.

They didn't require me any proof for the replacement.
Now Motorola is a part of Lenovo, so not sure.
I'm sure. The fact Motorola is owned by Lenovo is just as irrelevant now as when they were owned by Google. The piece of paper that spells out the warranty terms and conditions is what applies here, and that warranty does not transfer with the device when the device is sold to a second user by the first. If they processed a replacement for you, that was kind of them.
I bought mine new the month it came out and mine has burn also.. I have the 6p,note5,v10, but I swap out this phone for the 6p every now and then.. Point being it's not used much and still has burn in
All amoled screens should be used wisely, because over time the parties held most heated they become prone to yellow, while the share held duller, like the navbar and statusbar, will stay with the most "cool colors".
The solution is simple: use the EXTENDED DESKTOP mode SINCE THE FIRST DAY (present in almost all the custom rom).
In this way, in the time, the display deteriorates evenly , and no one pays attention!
Maybe after one year or two we have to change a bit the colors and make them cooler.
sad to say but i also have the burn in now.. got my shamu last october and its noticeable when you flash a rom and during initial set up where whites are pretty present and the gray part on the nav bar and status bar is so obvious with some hints on the clock, wifi symbols and signal and on the navbar some back home and recents button shadows present... too bad..
Now it is too late .... But if it is still under warranty should replace you display...
If with new display follow the advice since day one, you never have a problem!
Sorry for my english.....
