[q] stuck at xxjp1 - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I originally got stuck at a problem that contained these errors:
E: can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
E:Can't/b mount /devlock/stl10
Of course I was able to get to a specific rom through help in the forum, specifically:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788850
I ended up following the advice on post #7 on that thread and installed the XXJP1 ROM. The problem I am encountering now is that my i9000 3G modem isn't working. I don't understand how to flash another rom on top of this rom.
Am I supposed to use Odin 1.3 with 512 pit and rom? repartition checked? unchecked?
Or does anyone know how to install the modem for the XXJP1 rom?
PLEASE help!
People say "flash with JPC" or "JPH" .. but I can't find the roms for those, nor the step by step instructions on how to go about that?
Do I need to CWM? and if so, how do I install that?
I've been working on this for the past 14 hours (believe me, I have tried a few mods before that were working then aren't working anymore so I "bricked" my phone like 3 times already.)
I just want my phone back to stock and have the data working....

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=846913
Or use rom kitchin.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=817703
jje

I followed the first link as my first attempt yesterday, but it kept telling me either the first error I got or second error.
The kitchen instructions don't seem to be too clear on how what kernal to download. It says to download the odin kernal on the link it passes you to, but when you get there there isn't any link that labeled odin kernal. I don't want to download the wrong files and end up "bricking" my phone once more.
I appreciate your help JJE. Im glad people will respond.
Continuing, if there's anyone that can help me step by step. I have gone through MANY of the forums/threads, and it always seems like people forget specific information. Like they'll say "download the odin pit and 'so and so' rom and install the pit and pda" but the file comes with a csc and a modem file. I tried with repartition, and without. with only pit and pda, and with all the files...it always leads me back to getting the original error messages I was getting.
I feel like i'm forever stuck at XXJP1 with no modem...this sucks

I would also like to say to those reading this and who are willing to help me, that I am sorry I am such a noob at this. But you gotta give me credit for working on this 14 hours straight. Dedicated to the Galaxy i9000. Best phone I've ever had until I messed it up

if you don't have 3g , put APN settings in Setting , wireless and ... / mobile netoworks / apn , and I hope you have an European Modem installed.

http://romkitchen.org/sgs/?s=generator
jje

JJE: Thank you for the link, but the generator gave me a zip. Doesn't odin only take tar files to flash the roms? is there supposed to be another program I am supposed to use?

JJE: I tried transfering the file into the internal SD and then going into recovery to "update from zip" but it gave me the error message that said E: can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
i think i really am stuck at XXJP1
Thank you very much for the link to kitchen rom though. I was so hopeful with such customizations...
no choice but to send it back to samsung

[need help] Burn JP9 with ODIN 1.0

Hello all,
Currently i'm using a great modded rom (2.2), but i would like to flash to original 2.1 to test my battery, which is quite bad...
CSC that i have now: XEE. I900, rooted
I entered samsung-firmware, and downloaded JM9.
Inside the rar, there is 2 files
MODEM_I9000XXJM4.tar.md5 (12mb)
CODE_I9000XWJM9.tar.md5 (280mb)
They are saying the the pit for this rom should be 512.PIT. downloaded.
The problem is that on top it's written:
What can i do if i have only one file?
If you have one .tar file than is this the PDA version.
When you flash the PDA version everything will work the same like a full firmware.
Thats why many links have only one file!
Please when you have only one file SKIP RE-PARTITION!
Use only .PIT files if you have 3 files!
I don't have 3 files... THE CSC is missing, so i cannot flash if i understand right.
This is my first time flashing via ODIN.
What should i do?
By the way, there should any different in the test between JPG to JM9 ?
Thanks,
Efi

Okay, the modem is well obviously the modem and the code jm9 is the pda use these 2 plus your pit and tick repartition. The csc can be added manually by doing the following after you have flashed. Make sure you factory reset after froyo is installed.

CSC is the file with carrier customizations! It is not mandatory to flash a CSC file!
But if you don't flash it you will have to enter your APN setting manually!
As OrionBG said you can just manually enter apns i just find this easier using the automatic method outlined from that post. They say that the csc file has network specific settings like gps etc not just apns.
Choose the csc that is for your region carrier they are all clearly labelled on that site its very easy to do.

Can i just leave CSC empty in ODIN? i must flash a csc? i cannot just leave it like it is?
I understand what CSC is... but i don't find it in the list... I'm from Israel, how can i know what csc from the list will work for me?
Whats better to test battery stats? JPG or JM9 ?
Thank you
Yes leave it blank. ive never flashed csc with odin. The method i outlined to install csc was to do after you have flashed your rom with odin.
If its not in the list just copy down your apns settings or use apn backup and restore from the market to back them upand save them to external sd or pc.

I looked into APN and i see there only things that are related to 3G/intrenet and not to general calls that go through 2G... why?
You wrote: PDA plus modem plus your pit and tick repartition...
But it's written Use only .PIT files if you have 3 files!... what should i do?
I wasn't thought it will be so hard... What do you think about the kies registry trick?
You also wrote: Make sure you factory reset after you install Froyo. The thing is that i want to install Eclair (JP9) from A modded Froyo, and then test the battery, do root again, clockwork, modded rom, lagfix. that's all...
I think that if i will factory reset it will become simlock... it's a branded phone (movistar) but i have used an unlock key...
Thank you for everything again
What pit did you use last time? if you used 512 then it would be okay not to use one but if you used 803 for froyo then id advise to use pit. As for simlock im not sure hopefully someone else can help with that.

It's my first time flashing with ODIN like i told you
When i got the device i had 2.1, i installed root, rom manager, patched clockwork recovery and installed modded from though "install zip from sdcard'... so i didn't flashed through odin.
Ok i have some updates:
Through Kies the registry hack didn't worked because i'm trying to flash an older version, when i'm using 2.1
Opened ODIN 1.0, did all the things i need to do,
and in options:
Ticked re-partition
PDA - choosed the code
Phone - choosed Modem
CSC - left blank.
Flashed. everything went cool, JM9 is up, the thing is that he remember old apps and lancher pro, and i need to factory reset my phone through recovery. Did -worked.
my csc is XEE, it remain the same. does it mattar? My imei is displayed normally.
Baseband version: I9000XXJM4
Kernel version: 2.6.29 [email protected] #2
Build number: ECLAIR.XWJM9

I want to make a test tonight to sell how much my percent my phone uses over 7 hours of standby... i need to know exactly in percentages

[Q] Can't mount /dev/block/st110 [Solved]

Hoping a kind soul can help a total fool who should have left well alone!
I have a UK Samsung Galaxy S I9000 phone that was unlocked by the previous owner but still had all the "3" branding which I wanted to remove. I was already on ver 2.2 (updated via Kies) although I don't know the exact revision.
After lots of reading (obviously not enough) I followed a guide to reflash via Odin v1.7 to I9000XWJS3 using separate files for PIT (803), PDA, PHONE and CSC. The guide said to tick Re-partition on which might have been the cause of my problem.
Needless to say after the flash, I got the error message "Can't mount /dev/block/st110" and subsequent reboots just give me a black screen. I still had access to the download mode so I tried another posts solution to fix the black screen starting with a flash to I9000XXJPC with a 512 pit and re-partition again. This time the odin process started but no progress bar materialised. After a very long while I disconnected. Thankfully I can still enter the download mode but this time am hoping someone with more knowledge is willing to help me though the process of recovering my phone if its still possible.
Just looking for any stock UK firmware and then I will let Kies update from now on.
Many Thanks

You still can use xxjpc, with repartition ticked. Many a times, odin will fail for no reasons. Try again, but make sure you close Kies completely.

Thanks g00ndu. You gave me the courage to re-run xxjpc again by confirming I was on the right track and this time it worked. Small donation on its way for helping me recover my phone.
I have one further question though. Can someone confirm if the I9000XXJPC firmware is for the UK? I hope to only use Kies from now on but it now says "the version of the device cannot be updated". I am using the latest version 2.0.0.11014_49.
Thanks again
Edit - Kies lists the current firmware version as PDA:JPC / PHONE:JPC / CSC:JPC (KOR). Something tells me I have the wrong country firmware. If anyone can provide a link to the correct one and the Odin settings I should use it would be greatly appreciated.
Still trying to get a solution to this and have noticed that my product code in Kies registry entry is GT-I9000HKDKOR. I am wondering if this is because I used a wrong CSC file?
Any directions would be very welcome.
Thanks
Go to www.samfirmware.com and grab the Europe/UK firmware. Get a 2.2.1. one. All the CSC, Phone, Modem files should be in the package.
Thanks snapper.fishes. I am now downloading I9000XXJPU (512.Pit) - hopefully this one is correct as some of the downloads for 2.2.1 show (803.Pit). As there are no instructions with this I assume I don't click re-partition. Is this correct?
Thanks for the help
This is almost soul destroying....
I ran the update "I9000XXJPU (512.Pit)" as mentioned above and it flashed successfully. I am now on 2.2.1
Re-plugged in the usb cable and no windows popup to view the sd contents and nothing in "My Computer". Kies recognises something has been plugged in but remains on "connecting" - the phone itself shows the usb graphic and "connected".
I then went into Settings -> About Phone and there is no USB Settings option.
And just to rub it in I typed in *2767*4387264636# as per the wiki guide on here to view the Product code and it's still on Korea GT-I9000HKDKOR.
Edit - Have now tried *#1234# and the phone says:
PDA: I9000XXJPU
PHONE: I9000XXJPU
CSC: I9000OXAJPU
Not even sure if this bit helps
In case this is a help to other novices like me with the wrong product code. I found the following info and you don't need to be rooted to run it:
E.g. Changing CSC to XEU: Note - this will only work if the multiCSC was used when firmware was flashed
Type *#272*IMEI# and select XEU to install. (to check IMEI: *#06#)
Phone will reset to the default setting (perform a backup beforehand if req)
XEU = UK's product code
As for the USB issue (no USB Settings menu option in About Phone), is this just a change in the 2.2.1 menus? I noticed a USB Settings menu in "Wireless and network" and they have changed how this works. Kies still refuses to connect to the phone, but maybe this is just Kies.
Thanks

Me Too!!
I'm getting the same error the op did.
What happened? I flashed CM7 and it worked fine. I then decided to do a restore with the backup I had made earlier with CWM, this is when **** went wrong. Couldn't boot up after this or get to recovery. Went into download mode and tried to reflash factory firmware. JL2 Andriod 2.2 for Bell Canada I9000. Says successful but just boots to 3e recovery with " /dev/block/st110, (Invalid argument), E:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount DBDATA: "
Below that it says: " your storage not prepared yet. please use UI menu for format and reboot actions. copy default media content failed.
My biggest fear is the dreaded Int.SD card failure, the op gave me hope but same thing after every reflash.
Any suggestion?
I also have a Bell I9000M that did that. After attempting several combinations what ended up working for me was flashing JPU with 512.pit and repartition enabled, modem, PDA and CSC all selected in odin 1.3. That got me a working device. Then flashed JH2 to get recovery 2e back. Then flashed to the ROM I was originally on (Darky's 9.3). After that I flashed a CWM zip for the JL2 modem to get data back.

Thanks icejagans. Its a relief to know that this is just an incompatibiliy between kies and the JPU firmware. Do you know if there has been an official 2.2.1 firmware available via Kies for UK unbranded I9000s?

[Q] o2 stock kernel I9000ADJP3

Really need some help if there's a friendly Guru out there. Basically I flashed my Samsung Galaxy S with supercurio's Voodoo kernel (amazing) but after using the phone for a week or two I realised the microphone was dodgy (sounded like I was constantly in a toilet). So I need to send it back to O2 without the modified kernel but I can't find the kernel for the original O2 ROM :-(
I've disabled the lagfix and it's back on RFS by the way.
Here are the details of the phone, if anyone could point me in the direction of the best firmware to flash it back to so when I return the phone they won't say I've invalidated my warranty
Service Provider = O2
Country = UK
Language = English
Baseband version = I9000ADJP3
Kernel version = curio carton #Voodoo_stable_5.4.1
Build Number = FROYO.ADJP6
Thanks in advance for any advice you could give.
to get back to the stock kernel you will have to flash the ROM again.
Did you make a backup of your ROM ??
if not get onto www.samfirmware.com and download it from there.
if it doesnt have your firmware, any 2.2.1 (froyo) ROM will do, if questions are asked (very unlikely) say you updated thru KIES.
O2 firmware you get only from O2 via Kies .Unless you saved a backup of your rom as been said . Stock rom flashed via Odin will not give you the O2 firmware .
Stock rom flashed and the phone updated via Kies spoof method is about the best way of getting O2 firmware .
Stock = Samsung firmware before its handed over to O2 and has been said many service centres do not bother about it . However non O2 firmware is not covered under warranty if O2 want to be picky .
The key to all this is nobody bothers to save the original rom in the headlong dash to flash anything. That means no stock of custom network roms .
jje
Unfortunately I didn't back up the stock ROM :-( been to SamFirmware and think this is the closest I'm going to get.
I9000AOJP5
Says it's O2 branded and has english version, the download includes 3 files, so I guess I can't just replace the Kernel I have to update the whole ROM:
GT-I9000-CSC-VIAJP3.tar.md5
I9000AOJP5-REV03-ALL-low-CL713698.tar.md5
MODEM_I9000AOJP3.tar.md5
I'm assuming I can download the .pit from the main page but there are 3 versions
Galaxy S / .PIT File: DOWNLOAD. (512)
Galaxy S / .PIT File: DOWNLOAD. (513)
Galaxy S / .PIT File: DOWNLOAD. (803)
Any clue what the difference is or can I use either?
512 unless stated otherwise on samfirware .
jje
Just found my stock O2 uk firmware uploading now it will take a while .
This method worked and installed the correct network addons for O2 UK .
From downloaded rom open with zip program and extract to desktop MODEM bin file Then drop the full rom tar on the desktop as well .
Example saved rom is JP5_JP3_U_JP3.tar Modem.bin is inside that fail extract and place together with unopened JP5_JP3_U_JP3.tar on desktop .
You will also need odin 512 pit if its not with Odin .
Open Odin
- make sure you UNTICK Re-Partition Checkbox (which is the default choice)
- Choose "s1_odin_512pit" as PIT
- Choose " the tar file you saved as PDA
- PHONE Use MODEM.bin
- Leave CSC blank
- Start Phone in Download-Mode (see image at bottom)
- Connect Phone via USB
- "Start" Flash using odin
- Goto Recovery mode (see image at bottom) and do Factory Reset / Data Wipe
- Reboot, and wait for full start up. Unplug phone from USB.
- Close Odin.
Its the MODEM file that contains the network extras .>dont want them then you could try just flashing the saved rom tar as it installed Froyo with no network add ons for me .
Thats how i did a recovery to Froyo O2 last year
jje

Link added for O2 UK froyo rom JP5_JP3_U_JP3 tar

Darn it, wish I'd read this before I started going gung ho into things.
Tried to flash the I9000AOJP5 ROM using the 812 pit all from samFirmware, they stated to use this pit and that the ROM was an O2 branded 2.2 version. This caused my phone to fail on boot with the following warning:
E:Can’t mount /dev/block/stl10
(Invalid Argument)
E:copy_dbdata_media:Can’t mount DBDATA:
So I tried the earlier version of the ROM I9000AOJP4 with the same results (still on the 812 pit and repartitioning). I read that a lot of people had not had success with the 812 pit so I looked for 512 version and compatible ROM.
Decided on I9000XXJP3 as this seemed like a lot of people had success with it and seemed common enough for me to send the phone back with and not raise too many questions (fingers crossed).
After flashing the ROM and all appearing successful it now appears that the phone can no longer enter download or recovery mode. So I've factory reset it, wiped everything and am not sending it back with my fingers crossed for 2 weeks that they replace the entire unit and I get a nice new O2 ROM to mess up again
Thanks for your help guys, all this flashing of ROMs mallarkey seems far too complex and troublesome for me, why can't Samsung just produce a ROM that is as fast as Voodoo and then we'll all be happy!
Cheers again

[Q] Galaxy Tab (Australia-Optus) Flash failed, now I have no IMEI

Hi all, I have messed up my Galaxy Tab GT-P1000 (Aus-Optus-CDMA) trying to flash. I managed to get it going on the following FROYO.XXJME Version 2.2 Kernel 2.6.32.9 rootatSEI-28 #1
Unfortunately I did not do a full backup!
My problem is now,
1/ No imei shown
2/ No serial number shown
3/ Not recognize my sim card
4/ Tab reboots regularly
Have done the factory reset however I am not sure if due to my flashing is it the original rom?
I have the imei written but cannot get the Tab to find it, thus cannot connect to Kies to get the samsung updates which would fix things, "I think".
Can anyone help
Thanks

Did you flash with ODIN?
Did you get an error message?
Have you tried re-flashing to a stock ROM?
You should read through the following thread before flashing anything else
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=888071&highlight=no+imei+after+flash
And you are correct in assuming that a factory reset would only re flash the ROM you "replaced" your stock ROM with.
Also remember that using the SEARCH button usually will get you a lot more answers than just waiting on a reply here.
Did you unlock the tab first, no network lock, no sim lock... If you didn't this may explain whats happened. Don't know how you're gonna fix though....
Your Gtab is also NOT a CDMA tab, its GSM as you use a sim card... You may have bricked it if you flashed a CDMA rom.... Lucky if it starts up at all...
You need to tell us more info, what rom you flashed, how you flashed it - ODIN, Heimdall , Kies or just by pure magic. Then you might get more help....
the /efs folder contains all information/numbers about your gt including IME, mac address, bluetooth,etc.. It may have been deleted yet there should be a bak file inside the folder. since you are able to boot as you mentioned then you can still go into download mode and reflash a ROM?
Hi "theREDlegion" & thanks for your time.
Yes I did flash with Odin.
I got a red FAIL in Odin & an error message, trying to remember what it said exactly.
I am not sure which is the correct ROM to use for me here in Australia, CSC file & Pit etc, I'm kinda new to this stuff.......as you guessed!
I rooted the Tab with z4root, then used the repair nv_data to unlock the network which was succesful, so it said by entering the code.
So will the "Gingerbread" ROM work on my Tab?
I tried P1000XXJQ1_P1000XXJQ1_P1000XXJPZ_HOME.tar which failed.
Thanks again.
Hi ultramag69, appreciate your help.
I was installing a game when my Tab froze. No matter what I did I could not get it to respond. This is why I thought lets try & install Gingerbread. I managed to get it connected to the PC, however I am not sure if I did as you said "sim unlock". I did the network unlock. My Tab runs okay now but will loop boot when idol for 30 sec. I still whish to do Gingerbread if it is possible, or "overcome"
Thanks again.
Hi bongski55, thanks for your assisstance.
I have the backup of the efs & the files in it are dated 27/10/2010 which would indicate they are the originals. I have replaced the new efs files with these but still no change.
Not sure which file is the imei info though.
Here is my plan,
1/ Do factory reset - this will allow me to reroot
2/ Root the Tab & unlock network, learn how to unlock sim?
3/ Remove SD & SIM cards.
4/ Use Odin to flash with Gingerbread, I think I have the right ROM!
Wot u think!!!!!!!!!
Is your bootloader safe? Do you know what your original firmware version was ?
edit for my english: is "was" at the good place in the second sentence?
You've tried chainfire's safe rom, have you checked out the overcome thread, there's a safe rom you can install through ODIN there too... Might work. Also, do a search for Telstra rom, might take back to stock Froyo but with all the Telstra bloatware, I started on this.
After you take back to Froyo stock you can try again for GB. Can't say if this will work though as you have an Optus tab, mine was Telstra from the start...
Good luck...
Without restoring the efs folder CORRECTLY. All your efforts are futile. Follow this thread to restore /efs folder: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=859914. Reboot your phone, Charge it and try flashing a stock ROM.
Some very helpful information has been posted here, thanks to the very helpful members of xda.
If I was in your shoes I would do the following:
1) Follow the link provided by DarkPal in post 10, complete the steps necessary to restore the efs folder.
2) Follow the link I provided in post 2 and confirm your bootloaders and take necessary actions to patch if necessary.
3) Your device (on Optus) should be WCDMA/GSM. I would go over the OVERCOME thread and follow instructions on flashing a stock safe rom and attempt to flash the OVERCOME rom. It is important to follow the instructions step by step for a successful flash. The OVERCOME guide is very detailed, if you follow it correctly you should not have any issues with the flash.
Do post back your results and good luck.

Thanks for your help so far,
I have been able to find the backup of my efs/ which was created during unlock process.
Thank god.........I have now done this, patched bootloader.
1/ Used Overcome safe rom & flashed
2/ Flashed to Overcome "Jupiter" v3.3.0 & changed file system to ext4
3/ restored efs/
4/ My imei is now back to original....Yippee....also is my serial number.
Now when I boot it gives me full bars of service & Yes Optus on the screen..Great!
But I still canNOT connect. My Wifi works fine.
I notice my IMEI SV is now 05 but was originally 01.
I am not sure how to see what csc I have & don't know if it matters?
Any suggestions....
Cheers
Google "optus apn settings" and check yours (settings, wireless network, apn).
Check if wireless mode is auto.
What is your baseband (modem version)?
Because you see optus on your screen, your voice service is fine, but no data connection means your apn values are incorrect or missing.

Good morning all, well I would like to thank everyone on this forum, particularly those who have promptly responded to my questions.
I am glad to say that after 3 days of stress I have finally got my Galaxy Tab back on the Optus Australia internet service, I had to change the APN from Optus (Internet) to Optus (connectcap) in the Access Point Names & also at the bottom of those settings I had to select Internet. The connectcap option is not there by default, you have to add a new APN & choose these settings. My sim card is a data plan only.
So I now have my Tab running Overcome Jupiter, thanks guys, love your work, on the ext4 file system and already it is noticably faster.
Now......probably a good time to do a proper backup......yep I'm learning!
So thanks again everyone.

flashing from I9000XWJFD (2.1) to I9000NEJVK (2.3.5)

Hi all,
I had the bad idea to update the firmware of mz sgs from its original firmware to the latest one with kies.
An since that moment, quite few hours are alreadz passed..
The situation right now is:
Kies had a problem and in the middle it stopped to work.
Consequently, the mobile did not work anymore.
After switching to odin, I managed to install the JFD from samfirmware.
Now I would like to switch to the latest one.
But when I am installing it, it does not work.
I noticed that to install the JFD 3 files where required while for the latest (I choose italian for some stupid patriotism feeling) there is onlz one file (boot type)
Anyway, when I try to flah the mobile does not work anymore.
I get all kind of red reports for errors and it remain stuk in the samsong util screen.
Wiping does not work. In general, I think I tried every type of combination and guide...
So now I suspect there is an order in which one should install the firmware...
But I cannot find it..
Could anyone tell me which is the right sequence?
ps: in case my idea is wrogn, please link me a guide or a brief explanation.. I am a little at loss..
thanks
