i got nexus one.. and as doon as i recieved , it downloaded the update 2.2.1 and installed.
after that i realised that was teh worst thing to be done.
as i cant get it to root....
WITHOUT PC:
i dont think that it is possible for 2.2.1
i tried universal androot, no success.
WITH PC:
i am not getting adb to detect nexus.
after installing adb and then typing adb devices, it shows a serial no. and then device offline..
what this means is it not accessible?
i m in big problem, coz i cant get it to root....
any other method anyone knows how to root it without pc??
please help me..
and i guess teh 2.3.3 update is out for nexus one, then why my nexus one at 2.2.1 says latest update installed??

Don't bother. I had same problem. Go to modaco and use Paul's superboot. Works like a charm

I had lots of problems with that too. Download the PDAnet desktop client to your computer, this will install the USB drivers needed. They could probably be installed other ways but that took of the waiting for device issue for me.

Are you blind? UniversalAndroot does not work after 2.2
And anyways, SuperOneClick works great if your drivers are installed correctly...

Cool...I'm on Win7x64.
Settings>Applications>Development>Turn on USB Debugging
was a must for me to get this working with WinXP and the Galaxy Fascinate. The PDAnet applicaiton was crucial in getting my PC to recognize the driver. Thanks for the tips all.

I had the same problem and posted my solution in the main SOC thread. Here's what I did:
I used SOC 1.5.1. I had Debugging enabled and turned the phone off. I opened SOC and clicked 'Root.' When the prompt said 'Waiting for Device,' I turned the phone on. SOC did it's thing, and it properly remounted the phone. Everything is good now. I hope this works for you!!!
i have a cliq xt and superoneclick keeps ending with read only, can anyone help?

SuperOneClick issue
once I've d/l SuperOneClick, the file on my desktop shows a .zip file but when I goto extract all, pop up window says theres no files to extract.
I have not been able to find a working link please help!
this worked for me the 1st time, http://nd1razor.blogspot.com/2011/07/how-to-root-android-234-nexus-one.html
works without unlocking bootloader!
tried the guide from the xda wiki but failed for some unknown reason. try the above link.
I was able to root my Droid 1 with SuperOneClickv1.5.5-ShortFuse with not problems on the first try.
Version 2.2.1 Build FRG83D
I tried easyroot and z4root and neither worked on my phone
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
Worked for me too. SuperOneClick then installed Rom Manager from market = good to go
by any chance you know why Superoneclick will not find my device? Ive tried the steps listed below the download page for superoneclick and it still doesnt work...

I'll go ahead and post the solution I found when it was stuck at "waiting for device" when trying to root mine. I had not installed the drivers on my PC for my Motorola A855. As soon as I got the drivers installed, it rooted quickly and easily! I hope that helps someone else searching. There are a ton of "waiting for device" complaints in certain threads, and rarely is it recommended to make sure the drivers are installed!
superoneclickv1.5.5
Used today to root stock D1-running 2.2.1 FRG83D. Downloaded PdaNet then ran root. Took like three times turning debugging off and on but finally completed. Thanks
Yeah downloaded z4root then bought easyroot neither worked. Gonna try super one today and see what happens.

what was the process you guys went through?
I installed the drivers for the phone
Turned USB Debugging OFF
Clicked Root
When it says: Waiting for Device, Turn USB Debugging ON
ran RATC
but then it just locks up and doesn't do anything. I went to turn off USB again and then it just loops.
Any ideas?
I just did it exactly how short fuse says to and it worked great. First time actually.

Thanks a lot. Its working for me. My set is Samsung GT I5801 (Upgraded to froyo for GT I5800 and used Superoneclick).
Just an information for other users that I needed one manual restart after applying Superoneclick to get the root access.
Im trying to root with http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1319653 DooMLoRDs' esy root toolkit. I have debug, allow non market apps both check. I connect to my PC, run the .BAT file, press key to continue, and then says, Daemon started successfully, then nothing happens!! WTF?! HELP.!!!!!
just to make sure that ur device is identified by ur system.
type "adb devices" in windows terminal and see if it detects.

First I will explain what I have done. (I cannot post Links yet).
Following The CyanogenMod Wiki (HTC_Dream:_Rooting) I found out I could not downgrade to the RC7/RC29 (Spanish Phone). I was receiving the error message "Model ID incorrect! Update Fail!". After a bit of googling I was found that I should make a goldcard, this is where I start getting confused.
I created a goldcard following the instructions (First Google Result: goldcard on mac - mikesouthby) I was able to carryout every step without a problem. With the goldcard on my SD I Camera + Power booted the phone. After the same "Reading images.." bar completed and "Checksum Checking.." I got the error "Main Version is older! Update Fail!".
I have added some images which are just photos of the process, they show more information. This is my first Android device so yes, I'm a noob. On OS X by the way.
Information from device.
Model Number: HTC_Dream
Firmware Version: 1.1
Kernel version: 2.6.25-890662e5 [email protected] #12
Build Number: 1.56.621.4 PLAT-1.0_gms-141395 CL#19091 release-keys
the goldcard didint work, lots of people seem to have trouble getting the goldcard to work on a mac. if you have access to windows or linux try again. but i assume your purpose for downgrading is to gain root, there are other ways such as running an app. androot.apk never tried it but many have and say it works fine and there shouldnt be much of a chance for a brick. you would still have to flash new radio and spl and recovery

Thanks for getting back to me. I tried to use Androot but it seems to just crash when I hit root "The application Universal Androot (process com.corner23.android.universalandroot) has stopped unexpectedly". Though I didn't install it off my SD Card, but off a web server, as I can't find a working File Manager for 1.1.
Will try get hold of Windows or Linux, yeah I am trying to root the device to install FW 2.2.

I have used androot for my phone too on 1.6, no probs at all! Just ask a friend to lend their windows and try again to UPGRADE it to 1.6 and it would work.
I've gotten hold of a windows laptop, what should I do to upgrade to 1.6 though?
Sorry for the basic questions, first shot at all this business.

you can try to put an ota update on your phone and name it dreaming.nbh , boot into hboot.
but you may be best off just downgrading to 1.0 and following the old way for rooting then reupgrading

WAIT!!! I have just found a file manager for 1.1 : OI File Manager! Just go to the super old android market and try to get it or download it form the internet browser on your phone!
Hey everyone this is the third android device root im attempting. Ive rooted both my Droid incredible as well as my HTC evo 4g, so im not a major noob. With that said i still need help. First off yes ive searched for root options for my galaxy tab 7. ive tried z4root, gingerbreak, and everyones favorite superonceclick. i just got done trying hemidall (spelling) and that was no luck. im ready to throw both my computer and tab in the garbarge, but i like a challenge and want to get this accomplished. so with that being said when i plug in the tablet to the PC it wont connect with the junk softwawre kies or anything else. when i use superonceclick it gets to the point of the second "zerg rush" and it says path not specified. Ive downloaded what i think are the correct drivers. ive got the version of C++ it wants as well as the driver and it just wont root. so please can Anyone help??????

Whats your "end-game"?
Do you just want root? or are you planning on using a custom rom? CM9 maybe?
For myself, I just wanted to jump to CM9, so I just jumped in with heimdal, then flashed over CM9... no rooting or anything!
Hey it was to try custom roms i read there was a decent ics rom but i havent gotten into cm9. I downloaded the galaxy tab cubed rom and everytime i tried loading into hiemdall it said tar header invaild file size so i gave up for now

If you are on GB 2.3.3 or lower you can easily root r tab with the above methods. But I thought everyone's favorite was doomlord's script?
GB 2.3.5 and above is unrootable with the methods you mention.
There are two ways you can go. The easiest one is to install pre-rooted kernel for sch-i800 or other CDMA models.
I tried doomlords script woth no luck as well. I am running 2.3.5 so ill have to root with a kernal? Also what did hammerfest meam when he said he flashed cm9 without rooting?

I did the following:
1: Total factory reset! (to include formatting my MicroSD card!)
2: Found the drivers and odin
2.5: Spent the better part of 3hrs literally DIGGING through posts on HOW to get this done PROPERLY, like someone else said, the information was THERE on how to do it properly, but it was BERRIED like a needle in a hay stack...
3: Flashed cubed's ROM (using odin, without rooting at all)
4: Flashed AOKP (more for the update for CWM)
5: Flashed CM9
If I cared to go through the pain again of going stock then reflash, and licked the sound of my voice when recorded, id do a video...but I dont want to and I dont like it, so... Sorry?
