I currently have an SGS with the S-AMOLED screen, which is a gem, and am temped to jump to the O2X when it lands in the US. Could some one who owns both or at least seen the two side-by-side give a comparison?

Actually prefer this one above the over saturation from samsung.
like it even more as my amoled screen from my Desire...

I have both sgs and 2x, i actually like the the colors better on the 2x, only the backlight takes a little getting used to, it will never show completely black like sgs.

Keep in mind that the AMOLED display from Samsung exaggerate colors very much. Many people like this, but the colors are not natural!
I think the ui is bit a mess !

I promised myself no more LG with all the troubles I've had with my Optimus 2x, but that thing is just a beauty! Why isn't there any other company using IPS screens in their phones?!
With LG now actually atleast trying to fix o2x with many updates and such, I think I'll go for the 4x anyway. No other company except maybe SE push that many updates actually, they however don't have high-end hardware with S3 being their top SoC.
And a friend have a sgs2 and it's not that stable either (better, but not good). Say what you want about LG's software, but the screens are beautiful! And hopefully now they've learned from their mistakes! I will however wait a few weeks after release to be sure.

IPS(In Plane Switch) technology is MAY BE LG's own OLED technology. And MAY BE NOVA DISPLAY too apeared in LG Optimus Black Like Samsung AMOLED. RETINA display appeared in IPhone4 is somewhat IPS
IMO i preffer IPS rather than AMOLED , AMOLED is over saturated looks like artificial constrast while IPS is 0:800 contrast vivid looks natural. SLCD is sony's technology but not much good either
Its various marketting strategies.

Hey XDA. Right now, i have a LG O2X, just turning a year old. My dad just orderd an arc s for a small price. He really doesnt care what phone it is, he just wants to go read the news on the fly.
So, should i choose the Arc? Btw, my mom has a pair of livesound headphones laying around.
So:
Arc S:
Better screen?
Fully working ics
Sleek
Good headphones
but:
Slower
not so much for gaming.
viewing angles?
LG:
Fast with custom rom ( using temasek kang):
Good screen?
but:
thick, heavy
not much support from nvidia.
What would you choose?
I listen to music for about 1.5-2 hours per day while surfing the web on 3G. I play occasionally.
Also postet on the Arc part of XDA.
I'll chose arc just because of OTG-USB without rooting and design and weight and music too(speaker's quite loud and clear with Xloud on)
For all rest things I'll choose 2x especially due to front cam, uniform body(so that it doesn't falls off my hands while held for taking picx/vidz) , camera is better, video bitrate is better thus better quality, screen size doesn't matters when resolution is same and most imp. Is that i hate hardware buttons on phone

Hmm, i posted on the Arc Forums, that i will let my father make the choice. Makes my choice a lot more easy

well my wife got SE Arc S and have Lg Optimus 2x and i did play quiet a lot with both phones, and to be honest like for me there is no way to change Lg O2X for SE Arc S, simply LG is way better than SE special now when i install v20q(i compare only stock rom), SE is good for read news on internet, or facebok, but i don`t use my phone for that my wife does .
Hello,
As i am today a not very-pleased s3 owner, i decided that i will give Sony a try for the first time. After looking much at especially the V and the Z, i`ve decided that the Z will be the phone i will enough pleased with.
Anyway, i habe been reeding alot about this phone the last days, and i keep reading that the screen is not "good" enough, and that is something that concerns me.
So i am asking YOU GUYS that are a lucky owner of the Xperia Z; How does the screen feel like? Is it relly THAT bad as people is talking about? I really want this phone. I love sonys interface and water+dust proof is a must for me these days.
I hope someone can give me a good answer.
Appreciated !
Honestly go out and check it out for yourself.

Thanks for responding!
I would love to check it out, but here in Norway we dont get it before 6-10Mars. I went to the store today to check out the display on the Xperia V, and i gotta say i liked it alot more than my Amoled S3.
AW: So is the screen THAT bad?
Screen is just fine. Lots of exageration.
The vieweing angles are sub-premium, this is true, but perfectly ok. First its only the colours which wash out a bit, its not like you wouldnt see anything anymore plus, to be honest, how often and for jow long do you look at your phone flat and sideways...?
I like the screen a lot. Nice colours to look at, insane resolution and pixel density , everything is so damn crisp and clear. I mean hello, its a flaghship after all, they dont dare to put utter bull**** in it. As I said, lots of exaggeration.
TFT with high resolution. Colors are bad.
Regards
Yesterday I tested 3 Xperia Z with bright pixel. But finally got one that has none.

Depends on your definition of good colors.
When looking at photos vs one x without BE turned on colors are pretty close to the real thing including vibrancy and saturation. Now if you are the kind of person that likes unhealthy yellow skin tones, better than real life colors than yeah colors are no good. When people say it looks washed out they actually mean it is not punchy the truth is that when you look at the real world vs s3 and one x the real world seems to be washed out
Stop this BS already... screen is very good.
The only "problem" with it is colour saturation in UI. When BE2 kicks in, and you're on 60%+ brightness, colours and brightness are amazing. And since BE2 doesn't change the screen's physical properties - it means that the screen itself is perfectly fine. The only thing you can be unhappy with is UI's default saturation values, which are quite low, probably to make the difference between media and UI very noticable.
Also, it's true - "washed out" colours are actually a lot closer to natural colours. If you want very saturated colours all the time - you might not be satisfied. If you want completely oversaturated colours - go for AMOLED, they're amazing in producing rich, highly saturated colours.
For me, coming straight from an S3 to this, it really does look washed out, no mater how you look at it.
However, I think that this is because the S3 had very over saturated colours. If you do decide to go for the XZ, you'll be disappointed at first, but it feels much more premium and you'll start to realise that the S3 seemed like it was in Shop Display Mode all the time!
Ultimately, the choice is yours, but don't be downhearted if you go for it and you're initially unhappy with the screen.
EDIT:
Which is basically what everyone else has already said here.
Maybe Sony should have added a samsung mode where it sets the saturation up to 120%, the contrast to .800 and maximum brightness to 50% so you can't see anything when outdoors.
I think you'll be happy with the screen if you upgraded from other xperia family phones. But if you will compare it side by side with other 1080 LCD phones like htc butterfly, hell even with HTC One X which has 720P and a year older, Z can't match overall display quality. Trust your eyes. To see is to believe.

All Sony screens are very good from my past experience, people are just used to over saturated colors that other companies do to their phones. Also, you eyes will strain much less when you look at Sony screens for extended period of times.
Also, I don't understand what's with the ruckus of angle viewing, seriously, how many of you out there actively view the screen from a angle? its just retarded to compare that, it's not even a point.
Sent from my LT26i using Tapatalk 2
I personally really like the screen. I hated the screen on the s3 and thought the colours looked unnatural and oversaturated. With the XZ, while it may be 'washed out' to some, I actually find the colours, contrast, etc. quite nice to look at and natural. The s3 and the like hurt my eyes. Plus viewing angles aren't half as bad as I expected them to be given all the hysteria regarding them prior to release.
I posted this in the other thread "clearing up the....."
"I have now spent 48 hours with my XZ in the UK. I really like the display. It is sharp, vibrant and realistic in terms of colour and saturation. I could not get on with the amoled display of the HTC desire and the samsung galaxy. Too unrealistic imho. The bravia engine takes it to another level for movies and pictures: It will impress your friends!
I was hesitating with the iminent release of the HTC one. I have absolutley no regrets. It is a beautiful phone and a beautiful display."
well if the only downside is "bad view angles" and "low sturation" its great display because
1. i look my fone from front not side
2. i dont like too saturated colours (red must be red not burning red example)
3. resolution n ppi is high enough to make clear and nice pic

The LG V20 has a crazy crisp display. Just kidding, this is automated text so who knows if this screen is any good. So, you be the judge! A higher rating indicates that it's extremely sharp and clear, and that you cannot see pixels with your naked eye.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
i hate the image retention, my sony z3c, samsung note 4/edge not having the same issue.
Ghosting
?
It's past 1 year mark.
The screen ghosting issue is so prominent that it's annoying.
This is well known in the.forum's but it's not something that lg is talking about.
I'm going to have to find out if there is a recall or can get this fixed.
Truly disappointed.

The color reproduction on the LG panels is actually *really* good. Samsung cranks the vibrancy and saturation up on their displays because it is pleasing to most people's eyes. If anything, Samsungs color reproduction is vastly inferior with default settings. Both class of panels can be calibrated to be more correct though.
The other thing is that LGs colors are "cooler" and Samsung *always* biases towards warmer displays.

As we all knows people want Color vibrancy which Samsung is delivering actually.
I've tried to calibrate my display many time but even LG's display can't compete with Samsung's 2013 flagships display.

In what ways? And don't forget you are comparing an IPS-LCD to SAMOLED+ which will have vastly better blacks. LCDs can't yet compete on the contrast of an OLED.
I don't care what people want. They jump from one has to another and sacrifice utility for form at the drop of a hat.
I'll keep my color correct LCD that won't suffer from actual burn in
(My retention is all but nonexistent and that isn't permanent regardless)

By the way your retention problem can simply be fixed if you're rooted

You can try using the built-in Comfort View to make the display warmer. I set mine to high and it looks really close to my Galaxy Note 4, using the Basic display color option.
