Beat with me guys, I am very very new to this board, and I apologize if I post this in the wrong area.
Lemme start from scratch.
My phone is not rooted or anything like that. BUT I wanted to update my software for the Captivate to 2.2 using samsung Kies.
Not sure what happened, I though I had the correct drivers installed and what not, but it gave me the screen with the phone, exlamation mark, and computer.
I can put my phone into download mode, and I installed odin3 one click downloader. The problem is, when it gets to the part 'file analysis' it gets stuck there.
I watched a video on youtube and his went automatically, so I'm not sure at ALL what to do. If I can fix this myself, I'd love to. If not, I will go through AT&T and see if I can get it replaced.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Not sure how to fix it, but if you have to send it into samsung say it got screwed up somehow while trying to update to KB1, in truth that is what happened, plus if you say that they will try to fix it fast
If you have access to another computer, download ODIN and try it on that one. Odin works on my laptop but not on my desktop.
CM7 Inspire 4G
What you have is a soft brick. Keep trying to get into download (try both 2 and 3 button methods) and then retry Odin. Look in Dev subforum for the "How to flash a ROM" sticky as there is good info on how to do this.
Samsung was absolutely no help lol.
Well.. I guess I can try this on another desktop.
Jeez I regret trying to upgrade man. Shoulda waited and learned more.
Has anyone had odin3 get stuck at file analysis before?
What model is your Cappy? You can find the model number underneath the battery (on the phone itself). It should have a number like 1006,1007,1008,1009,1010,etc.
Also, it'll be a good idea to try this alternate method in the mean time:
Make sure you know how to go to Download Mode, and that you have the drivers installed properly.
Windows 64bit
Windows 32bit
This is the manual (or "full") Odin, it's taken from a post by icezar1 in the Development Forum:
Do not use this if you want to send your phone back to ATT or Samsung for warranty!
Do not use this if you know you flashed a -LOW- ODIN package (when opening the PDA***.tar or CODE***.tar you will find inside boot.bin or sbl.bin)
Use this if you want to go back to stock before flashing a custom ROM.
Use this without worries if you changed your boot screen image or if you flashed the secondary boot loader which allows you to enter download/recovery with key combos.
Download the package from here
How to:
Remove sdcard and SIM card from the phone
Extract JF6_secure.zip somewhere.
Boot your phone in Download Mode
Run Odin3 v1.3.exe
Plug in your phone via USB
Click on the button PDA
Choose JF6_secure.tar.md5
Click start
Wait and do not unplug cable until it is finished

Just for clarity sake, those are not the model numbers, they are build date (first two are year, second two are month). The model number of the Captivate is i896 or i897.
I know, I keep saying that they're model number though for some reason. Thanks anyway I guess.
Thank you venomio this 1.3 is working much better.

I'm in the same exact situation as the OP. I'll try the instructions posted below and report my findings.
check your build number first before you flash using odin. certain build may not work with odin one-click.
an usb jig will help you out if you cannot get into the download mode or just in case:

I recently found out I could update my captivate with Kies Mini. I updated and everything went smoothly. Kies told me update was successful and I unplugged my captivate. It was booting up fine until it reached the Galaxy S logo. It kept going through the logo animation for about 2 minutes before it shut off. I took the battery out and tried again. Same result. my soft buttons are lighted up. When I touch them It responds with a blink, but no haptic feedback. What is going on??How can I fix this? I tried using Odin to flash it back to stock but it won't recognize it. Mt phone was stock 2.1 with the Voodoo Lag Fix installed and everything ran fine and then after the JH7 update the phone messed up. I read that Launcher Pro causes problems with this update and you have to select the Touch Wiz UI when doing it which I forgot to do.
Please help, thank you.
this post is just as dumb/wrong as your post in atinm's thread
a) you can't be stock if you have voodoo, voodoo replaces a kernel
b) you aren't bricked because you can get to the galaxy s screen, brick means your phone won't even turn on
c) this isn't development related, general or Q&A
d) if you don't know how to use odin one-click, I'm not going to help you, you put yourself in this situation

You rock man! Thanks for the help
I also just noticed something in your post about having LauncherPro turned on.
Kies to my knowledge won't even recognize the phone unless you're on TouchWiz UI.

I tried to get back to the stock rom... and yes, i did an factory reset and cache wipe etc before..
Anyone who can help me?
NP, this thing happened to me... Is it because you clicked on re-partition...?
I cant guarantee, but i unplugged it, and it was soft bricked, i then flashed it without repartition checked.
Hopefully works for you
GL
you can indeed uplug it in this situation. Pull the battery and let it sit, go back into download mode and reflash the stock firmware.
If you check re-partition, make sure you have a pit 512 file that you are flashing. If you do not have a pit file, then make sure re-partition is unchecked.
Thanks both.
I did not check re-partition. I am not experienced with all this and i'm fairly new.
I just tried to flash the stock rom, because I couldn't boot up properly.
Ok. I'm trying to flash it again. It's actually doing more then it did before. I'll let you know
EDIT
OK.
I tried again but it was stuck again. Now at like 95% of the completion -.-
I tried for the third time. It keeps failing ....
anyone who can help me with this?
btw, i just noticed i posted this in the Galaxy S forum accidently. I have a SGSII instead. But I think it doesn't make any difference?

Lol fourth time...
SGSII your using the correct firmware then right? The link i gave shouldn't apply to you it could brick your phone...
Yh, Odin can be annoying sometimes, you can either wait a while and try again later, restart and try again, or use heimdall. Or you could flash a zip through recovery (not sure if that last one works if you cant get past boot)

Umm no I used the right SGSII firmware. You didn't even gave me a link.
I'm sure I used the right firmware.
the first time I tried (when I posted), it got stuck before it even really started. second time and third time at 90-100%. the last time it worked.
I have no clue why it wasn't working, but this was the only solution for me (no, I couldn't boot, so I couldn't put anything on my SD and use CWM).
odin hangs often for the simplest of reasons, especially a loose usb connection -- test this by plugging into you pc or laptop and see if it stays linked or unlinks after a short duration or if the cable is jiggled -- you then know to hold the cable when using odin, or better still, get a replacement usb cable
Hello All,
I tried flashing my phone (to I9000XXJVS)
I've only gotten to step 11, which flashes the phone.

I selected the following options:
Re-Partition, Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time
While flashing, I got the following messages

I switched off the phone and tried to turn it back on.
It won't come one at all. It's not showing anything.
It won't even go into recovery mode.
It won't go into download mode.
Pls help.
Take the battery out for 15 minutes and then replace and see if it powers back on.
If it still wont turn on or go into download mode using the key combination then try using a USB JIG.
What rom did you try flashing?
I'm trying to go to Gingerbread 2.3.5 I9000XXJVS.
I waited 15 mins. Still nothing.
Even when I put in the cable through USB, nothing shows up. Normally it shows that it's charging.
See screenshot of my ODIN configuration while flashing:
Try and plug your phone into the PC and then try the 3 button combo with the cable attached.
No difference. Still won't come on.
I hope the board is not fried.
Very strange...
I cant view the image you posted at the moment to see if files were put in the right places because im on works ancient internet browser but from what you wrote in the OP the flash appears to have gone ok...
Might be worth getting a JIG and trying that. If that doesnt work maybe its time for the unbrickable mod.
REALLY stupid question but you have flashed the right firmware for your device right?
I would give the JIG a try. You can buy one from ebay for like less than £5 GBP or you can throw one together youself.
Did the phone reboot fully after the flash before you turned it back off?
Yes, the flash went OK.
What do you mean by the right firmware? I got the firmware from samfirmware. I actually new to this.
And what's a JIG? How do I put one together?
The phone didn't reboot. The screen was blank but kinda slightly lighted. So I tried powering it up but it didn't so I removed the battery.
I got the JIG. I'll try to build one myself.
I'll let you know if it works.
One more thing: the battery was kinda low when I started this operation.
I'm thinking maybe the battery ran out.
But it's not even charging when I plug it in.
What i mean is do you have an i9000 and not an i9000M or another variant of the i9000 and have tried to flash a firmware from an i9000 onto an i9000M or i9000B for example.
I wish i could see that picture you posted to have a better look.
In the PDA box you should have had a file called PDA or CODE... The modem box should have had MODEM or PHONE... and then CSC should have had CSC...
There should have been a PIT file in the PIT box...
You should have had repartion ticked... auto reboot ticked and auto F reset ( ithink its called that ) ticked.
The update bootloader and other check boxes that are below the 3 i mentioned should all have been unticked.
I use a GT-i9003
in PDA i have CODE...
in PHONE i have MODEM...
in CSC i have GT...
in PIT i have a .pit file
I had all three boxes ticked (Re-Partition, Auto Reboot, F. Reset Time)
All other checkboxes were unchecked.
It looks like you have flashed incompatible firmware onto your device.
You have flashed firmware for the i9000 which wont work on the i9003.
You have gone into the wrong section on Samfirmware.com. There is a seperate section for the i9003.
You can still try the JIG trick but im not sure if that will work either on your device as the hardware may be slightly different and require a different resistor value to force download mode but im not sure about that part...
It looks like you have flashed bootloaders onto your device that wasnt designed for it which could mean a hard brick.
Maybe the unbrickable mod will help you out.
Im not too sure how to help you from this point on im afraid if you cant get download mode working...
Have a good search through google and see if you can find any helpful information.
Other thing is to say you had an update for it and it broke your phone and try and play dumb and see what happens =/.
I hope you can get it sorted mate.
Hi I just decided to change my custom firmware to darkynote from rocketrom. It worked perfectly but I wanted to update my kernal also so afterwards i rebooted into recovery and installed version 2.6 of Abyss Note. Now My phone boots to the "Samsung Galaxy Note N7000" Screen and stays there unless i plug it in, then when i start it it goes to a frozen battery screen. I cant boot into recovery but i can boot into download mode. Can someone help me get my phone back to stock? I can't seem to find a tutorial anywhere that will work for me.

Someone respond, im gonna cry.
First Relax man, dont be in hurry, read this guide twice/thrice n calmly proceed...
It is nice still you can entre to download mode.
First get Stock firmware from here Type N700 in search field, it will show all available firmware, select you wish to flash n download
Note : If you select latest ROM KL7, you won't get Root + CWM, for that you have to Flash another ROM first, then You have to Root + CWM,then Install Mobile odin pro, now flash KL7 with Mobile Odin pro with 'ever root' option enable. If you selecting another ROM, ignore this note
Get odin n extract
Install:
Install Kies on your computer, connect your phone and make sure that all the drivers installed correctly.
Extract tar file from the ROM you have download(password available at site from you have download). Put the phone into download mode (vol. down+home+power buttons),
Comlete close kies, if open. start odin, connect the phone via USB. Choose continue on the phone,
make sure that only two boxes are checked in odin - Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time.
Choose PDA button in Odin and select tar file you extracted before.
Choose START button.
The phone will reboot after the flash. Done.
Alright sounds good but i left it at the NAND write start thing overnight and when i came back it said this:
<ID:0/006> NAND Write Start!!
<ID:0/006>
<ID:0/006> Complete(Write) operation failed.
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)
<ID:0/006> Removed!!
Now I have a black screen and its flashing on and off with the frozen battery symbol. I think the battery is drained or something.
Also my download of the rom finished, there isnt any tar files its just a zip with an MD5 file and a Dll. Should i just but the MD5 file in the PDA section?
Edit: now my phone wont do anything when i try to put it in download mode.
Anyway if you are still able to entre Download mode, then try to flash stock kernel as i said above.
But thats what I mean, is it possible for the phone to not boot into download because the battery is dead or is my phone just bricked forever $850 dollars out the window.

Actually i dont understand properly, your first post said U R getting into DW mode, if you can entre into boot mode, i guide you earlier, i cant say it bricked.
many time this happen after some error in procedure.
If you even not able to entre into Download mode, you need to entre it with JIG.

Actually I was just updating you. At first it was working, then i tried a tutorial simmilar then the one you just gave me and it caused the phone to not turn on whatsoever. Can you link me to one of these "jigs". Thanks
You can get it readymade from market e.g. ebay or you can make it own home made
see here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819551
better first try with other battery once, if you cud manage
I was able to get a hold of one locally. When I plug it in, nothing happens. Any advice? Its for a GSII. Is that why? Or is it the battery thing. Before it stopped working completely, when i booted into download it would say low battery. Looks like its game over for my new phone .
I tried this with an old usb cable http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20914895#post20914895.
Inserted the USB Jig afterwards. No luck
I suppose i have to take it to be J-tagged: http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and-...-JTag-Service-Phone-Unlock-W0QQAdIdZ341742939
I'm sorry if this is not helping, or being so late, but I wanted to share my experience.
So, now can you enter the recovery menu by pressing the 3 buttons?
if you can then do a factory reset/wipe from the recovery and then flash an entire flashable ROM, maybe a stockROM or ROCKETROM.
you can upload ROCKETrom from the ordinary windows explorer , just copy and paste to the ex.SD.
the looping android animation actually happened to mine, and that's how I fixed it.
BTW: I didn't use Odin at all, or any other program.
Thanks for trying to help but this is completely irellavent. My phony CAN'T get into recovery and it NO LONGER CAN even get into Odin (download mode). I guess I wasn't clear when posting. Is anyone aware of a hardbrick fix or if sammy will repair ,my phone for a price.
Hi buddy. The EXACT same happened to be when trying to flash RocketV16. Frozen charge screen and everything.
To sort it I first let the phone start and hang on the black/white writing splash screen, removed the battery while it was on, held down the power button without the battery in for 3-5 seconds, put the battery back in. I then held Vol Down, the Home button and then the power down button (hold down power last) for some seconds until the Odin-Mode downloader came up.
After that I just followed a guide on flashing with Odin.
No more £9999999999 brick
unfortunatly i cant try that stratagy because i cant even get to the splash screen anymore. + i gave it to a local guy who claims to be able to jtag it. If it doesnt work ill send it to samsung and of course pay because i voided my warrenty. oh well. better then my old i9000m.

My phone`baseband is XXLD1(Android version 2.3.6) when I get it about two years ago. Then I upgraded it to XXLQB(Android version 4.1.2).
But a few days later,I realize that European version ROM could flash Asia version offical ROM.So I flash Samsung-GT-I9070-XTE-I9070DXAMD1-1365494217(Because it has Chinese language).
when it want to flash CHN-I9070ZCLPC-20130812164209 into my device. Here problems come.
I got this idea at (sorry i can`t put a link without permission) . I get my phone into downing mode.flash CHN-I9070ZCLPC-20130812164209(just a PDA , no pit csc and so on).I failed to flash in. The error infomation that odin give me is <ID:0/003> Added!!

1. Where are you from?
2. What 4.1.2 version did you download? Please post a link here!
3. Try: Press Volume down, Home button, Power button ... Any reaction? Did you get into Download mode?
If you didn't get into Download mode then you have a problem, your device is Hard-Bricked ... That means the only thing which can safe it is to give it to the shop where you bought it, hopefully you have still warranty ... Simply tell them your device didn't start anymore and perhaps you get a new one ... - I read already it is 2 years old ... so that is a big problem ...
If you didn't buy your phone in China or in completely Asia it was a big mistake to flash a Chinese version!!!

If your phone doesnt show any reaction, try to put out your battery for 20 minutes, put it in your phone back, connect it to the charger, wait 1 hour and try to get into Download Mode again ... I think the worst case happened for you, a Hard Brick. This happened because of disconnecting your phone during installing Stock rom with Odin ... Keep me up to date

Go to the shop where you buyed it and tell them you were just listening music or something on your phone and suddenly he shut down and you could never turn him back on.
working on it...
Hi,
I'm working on an unbrick procedure (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701363) without JTAG or any box.
Results look promising but I have very few time to work on it.
But I think I'm close to it...
I have gained a good understanding of the boot and flashing procedure using the flashkit tool (on which the Snowball open source riff tool is based on).
We have all the pieces (including certificates). We "just" have to assemble the correct bootloader including the recovery software and boot it from USB using flashkit.
-> If someone with good linux/Android compiling knownledge helps me it might be fast.
If not, just wait that I manage to do it... or give up and go to a shop with a Riffbox, Z3x, Octopus or whatever it is called to recover the phone" the hard way"

YEAH!You`re very helpful.but i can`t help you. sorry, looking forward your amzing result.
@AceVincent
There is a chance to unbrick your phone with a tool called USB JIG:
http://www.amazon.de/s?ie=UTF8&x=0&...n-yt-21&linkCode=ur2&camp=1638&creative=19454
It may help, but perhaps not ... if you bought it you can safe your hard bricked phone in this way:
Instruction:
1. Put out the battery
2. Wait for 2 minutes
3. Plug in the USB JIG
4. Now put the battery back into your phone
Now your phone should boot into the Download Mode, like mentioned above, it should ...
If it worked for you it solves other things too: It makes the yellow triangle to disappear and it sets the Binary counter back to zero ...
I never tested it until now because I didn't break my phone so far, but this will be the one of the last opportunities to revive your phone ... But I can't guarantee anything ...
