I flashed the JS8 single file with 512pit and repartition. (from samfirmwares)
This bricked my phone.
I flashed JS8 single file with 803pit and repartition.
Still bricked.
I flashed my phone with a different JS8 (3 files, PDA, MODEM and CSC, no bootloader) and 512pit and repartition.
My phone is fixed.
The single file JS8 w/ 512pit + repartition bricked it.
The multi file JS8 w/ 512pit + repartition fixed it.
Why?
Thanks
When flashing with one file do not use pit file or tick re partition..
There is a tut on xda general section!
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Thanks very much! At least I know now in future, I couldn't understand why it worked with one and not the other

I have done just that multiple times .
base eclair 512 pit and repartition checked to clear a faulty rom install .
Samfirmware single file on PDA .
I do it that way as it works when i is breaked everything once again .

You guys are god! thx!
what is the diffrence between 512 anf 513 pit files.. I flashed JP3 with 512 was I correct or should I have used 513
if its working then dont worry m8
if you use the same pit file all the time you dont hav to repartition when you change pit file you repartition
regards
Just use 512 for everything.. 513 doesn't seem to work for late builds
513 doesn't work, but it's still good to have around.
I wanted to flash JM1 and, for some reason, odin wasn't flashing it, no matter what. I tried ticking the "re-partition" option (with 512.pit) and odin was just waiting there, never actually re-partitioning the phone.
So I flashed the firmware with 513.pit (which obviously didn't work, but odin re-partitioned). Then, I re-flashed with 512.pit this time and odin re-partitioned it properly.
Always good to have alternatives laying around.
Hi, I got the JPY ROM from the thread in the general discussion, and any time i have tried to flash it onto my phone, the phone refuses to start properly. It just vibrates a couple of times and black screens.
I am using Odin 1.3 and PIT 512 for this as it says on SamFirmware.com.
Is this the ROM not working properly, or me doing something wrong?
Mate did you click repartition in odin?If you did then you SHOULDNT!!!!
Try to get in to recovery mod with the 3 button combo and make a factory reset if yo had NOT clicked repartition.
In case had HAD clicked repartition in Odin then i guess you ll have to download a foul stock firmware and flash it.Meaning a firmeare that has Modem and CSC files aswell and not only PDA file...
I'm just about to flash XXJPY and I was just wondering, do I have to unroot 'before' flashing the single file (pda) XXJPY or can I leave it as is..?? Does it make any difference..??
Thanks

nah you dont need to have it rooted to flash JPY.
I believe the JPY file in the general forum is just an upgrade / high level package which is why you dont tick repartition. Usually look for posts by Richthofen- hes the dude who converts it to mid level packages so you can couple it with a CSC and modem.
hi there same thing happened to me i updated this thru samsung kies im stock at black screen would factory reset make my phone work again? i need help please please please

I am already rooted so should I un-root before flashing or just leave it rooted..???
And also have SGS Battery Icon Mod installed, again does this have to be un-installed before flash or not..??
Can someone post a link to the right ROM that I can use to update using ODIN that will not result in existing data lost ? The one that I downloaded is a single tar file (Size - 298,890KB) that contains these files. If this is the right file, do i just specify the tar file in the PDA and uncheck repartition ?
modem.bin
param.lfs
zimage
cache.rfs
factoryfs.rfs
This may be a dumb question, and I've looked around the forums, but can't find an answer.
I've downloaded KC1 for my Galaxy S, and the file I downloaded is I9000UGKC1_homebinary.tar
I looked inside the tar file and there is cache.rfs, factoryfs.rfs, modem.bin, param.lfs, etc
How do I flash these with Odin?
Thanks
what is the file used for? is it a modem? kernel ?
Well, I downloaded the firmware file for KC1 for the i9000 from samfirmware.com
I was wondering how to upgrade my phone to that, but it only had the one TAR file (and not the PHONE, PDA and MODEM files that other firmwares have).
So i'm not sure how I'm suppose to flash it.
oh!
well you place the file in the PDA tab in odin, and flash away (while repartition is UNCHECKED)
As per the instructions on Samfirmware in regard to flashing with odin .

hi frnd i own a Xperia Neo V but here i am for my frnd he has did something wrong with his phone and its not booting up i can enter recovery/download mode i just want to knwo how to flash i9000
i have downloaded
Flashprogram Samsung I9000 + Pits
firmware version XAJW5_XEU from samfirmware
i have flashed 5830 and 5801 but i dont find odin to be similar as them
can any1 tell me how to flash i9000 and what pit to use cause i can see 3 pits in it
803
513
512
or a full procedure will be helpful
am just trying to help my frnd to fix his S1
you will need to have the galaxy S drivers installed on the computer they can be downloaded and installed as part of Kies or seperatly from a thread in the I9000 (SGS) section of XDA just search for "Samsung Drivers.exe"
As for flashing Phone put it into download mode and connect USB cable
If the file downloaded is a single file .TAR place into PDA of odin
if 3 file place PDA into PDA, CSC into CSC and PHONE into PHONE and flash.
Most GingerBread ROMs use 512 PIT check on samfirmware as to the suggested PIT file.
NOTE a pit file is not always required but cannot hurt. just ensure that repartition is not checked
what will happen if i re partition it.. will it format everything

re partition will fully wipe the OS partitions, not the SDcard partition but sometimes errors do occur with the SDcard.
The ROM on the phone does retain a copy of the PIT file and can access it during a odin flash.
it is very important to use the correct pit file for the rom or it will not boot
i was on indian stock rom with kernel jv9so inorder to root i flashed cf root and it was working perfectly fi9

Did you reflash your ROM with a pit file as well, because aokp uses a different file partition set up so pit is necessary when going back to stock

Whenever you flash with pit always tick repartition, if you open up the file you flashed you should be able to see if there is a pit in there, if not go to samfirmware.com and you will find pit files over there

If you use pit and tick repartition using this ROM it will not work. For repartition you need dbdata inside the compressed ROM.
You can pick any ROM that have the dbdata and merge with your stock ROM to do a repartition and get your phone up and running again!!
Good luck
