Is there any app to turned off the soft key so it doesn't turned on when you touch the screen? The opposite of "Keep the Lights on". I read ebook at night and it is annoying to have it lit up every time I changed page.

I've been using iGO for my navigation software which has a power save function which means if there is say 30 miles before the next command, the screen will dim and eventually turn off. But it seems that my tilt turns GPS off when the screen goes off. When I come to the next command, nothing happens. I manually turn the screen on, then the gps reconnects.
is the phone always in sleep mode when the screen is off?
is there away to turn the screen off but maintain a GPS fix?
Thanks.
no you can get apps which just blank the screen
and some apps support using a hardkey to toggle the screen
Is is possible to completely turn off the automatic backlighting of the capacitive touchkeys when I touch the screen?
It is annoying when I read an ebook, especially at night, to have the touchkeys lit for at least for half the time it takes to read the page, and then go on again when I touch the screen to read the next page, for another 5 seconds...and the next page..
This question has been asked before (in a Galaxy S forum), but no relevant answers I could find.
(This has nothing to do with BLN.)
Thanks for any help.
(Euro Galaxy Tab with Overcome 1.4.5)
There is a app called blinkertab that has the ability to turn the backlights off. I use it to turn them off for reading. They restart after a screen off condition so the screen off is temporary. Overcome 1.4.2

Thanks a lot! That seems exactly what I am looking for. Unfortunately, it does not work as expected for me.
When I tap "Backlight OFF" in BlinkerTab, the touchkey lights go off, even when I then tap the Home key, but as soon as I switch to an ebook reader (tried FBReader, Moon, Kindle..), they restart already!
Maybe something changed in the kernel/ROM since 1.4.2. Or is there a trick to it I did not realize?

When I soft-reset my TD2, leave it be for a while so that backlight dims and then press a HW button or tap the display, backlight comes up back again. However, if the device enters standby the "resume backlight on user activity" function stops working properly for some reason. (I am not sure for how long TD2 has to be left alone - maybe 30 minutes, 1 hour?) Specifically, if the backlight dims and I go to Settings > System > Power > Advanced tab and uncheck "Dim screen after X s", the screen will light up, but if I check this checkbox again, the screen will dim even though I just interacted with the phone and the screen should therefore remain lit up. The only other way to get a fully lit screen (at least until it dims again due to user inactivity) is to lock the phone and unlock it back.
I should also add that this happens with the official stock WM6.5 ROM.
Is there anything in phone settings I should enable or disable, or is there any registry key I should set to some specific value for this feature to work properly again?
Thanks for any help.

I think, you could try to use Lumos that exist in this Thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2955401&postcount=1
Hakim,
thanks for the suggestion, however, in the meantime I learned that the issue is caused by the WM auto-lock feature (it is a bug that nobody cared to fix :-/ ). I was not able to find any useful work-around so I decided to install an application called LockDevice (it should be here somewhere on XDA Devs) which works very well and seems to be relatively light-weight.
Anyway, thanks again for your response.

I have found ways to dim and turn off the capacitive buttons using screen filters and Gravity Box, but I can't seem to find a way to time them out. It would be great to watch videos and use the daydream feature without the buttons being lit up the whole time (and not having to go out of the way to turn them off.) Does anyone have any ideas?
Hello! Came from a Pixel and the Nexi before it. Note 9 is the best device I've ever owned. I do have a problem and some questions. Please be gentle if these have been answered before, I have researched these things.
My problem is WIFI. It cuts out all the time, randomly! I've done everything, yes that too. If anyone had this issue and solved it PLEASE LMK.
Questions:
1. How do I disable the 'press of home button when screen is off, on lock screen, to wake screen'? Basically, the screen is off and if I touch the lower middle part of the screen it turns the screen on. I don't want it to do that. SOLVED!
2. No matter what settings I use, every time I get a text message notification (stock app) my screen turns on. I have lock screen notifications off for ALL apps and have each app setting changed under notifications to NOT turn screen on. No matter what the screen pops on every time.
I don't have any issues with wifi or notifications, but there are a couple of options for #1:
Search for "Hard press Home button" in settings and disable it. If you are using Always on Display, you should to set it to Clock instead of Home button and clock
