Is is possible to completely turn off the automatic backlighting of the capacitive touchkeys when I touch the screen?
It is annoying when I read an ebook, especially at night, to have the touchkeys lit for at least for half the time it takes to read the page, and then go on again when I touch the screen to read the next page, for another 5 seconds...and the next page..
This question has been asked before (in a Galaxy S forum), but no relevant answers I could find.
(This has nothing to do with BLN.)
Thanks for any help.
(Euro Galaxy Tab with Overcome 1.4.5)
There is a app called blinkertab that has the ability to turn the backlights off. I use it to turn them off for reading. They restart after a screen off condition so the screen off is temporary. Overcome 1.4.2

Thanks a lot! That seems exactly what I am looking for. Unfortunately, it does not work as expected for me.
When I tap "Backlight OFF" in BlinkerTab, the touchkey lights go off, even when I then tap the Home key, but as soon as I switch to an ebook reader (tried FBReader, Moon, Kindle..), they restart already!
Maybe something changed in the kernel/ROM since 1.4.2. Or is there a trick to it I did not realize?

Hi,
Received my brilliant brilliant kaiser today. Every penny worth an upgrade from trinity apart from a slight brick feeling.
I was wondering if someone knows how to keep QWERTY keyboard lights on all the time while you are using the keyboard. At the moment they stay on for few seconds when keyboard is opened, but turns off later and don't turn on even on pressing keys unless you close and open the keyboard. It would be helpful to type in dark if backlight on keyboard keys stay on as long as keyboard is open.
thanks
heh i use the low tech way, i put my finger over the light sensor
I am wondering the same thing. There is an option for "Automatic keyboard auto sensor" for the backlight under "Settings....Buttons....Backlight" but haven't been able to get it to work. Where is the light sensor? I could possibly go high tech and put tape over it!
Update:
In the Registry, navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER...Control Panel....Backlight....QKeyLedTimeout
and change the default value from 10(seconds) to something high eg. 180 (3 minutes).
This will keep the backlight on for the specified amount of time.

so say you only need the keyboard for 1 min, when you slide it shut does it stay lit for the other 2 min or go off when closed?
One last update....the above registry mod actually will keep the phone button backlights on for the specified time as well as the keyboard backlight. So, this could be a bonus for some. Still haven't found the light sensor on this device I am guessing it is on the keyboard on the left side (tiny hole), but I still haven't been able to activate it. Anybody else had any luck?

It will go off as soon as you close the keyboard

Unticking this option actually fixes the issue... If you DON'T enable the auto-sensor, the light will come back on instantly on every new key press (any key..).
Stretching up the time-out with earlier suggested reg-mod is a nice added bonus...
The sensor is slightly left from the Q-key. A little black dot.
Strange,
I put my finger on top of it, and it did not light the keyboard

Yeah.. my light sensor is iffy... Maybe it is just a bug.. I can be in a totally dark room and they key backlight will not turn on. If i disable the auto sensor the backlight, of course, works as normal.
i think i will have to leave it disabled..

That is exactly the same problem as I am having. I can't seem to get the keyboard to light up in complete darkness. My other devices never had this problem. The backlight would come on in darkness. Any suggestions?

Most of the time it works for me.. The easiest fix it to simply disable the light sensor. It works just like any other PPC then. If it is misbehaving a reboot will fix it for a while. I haven't actually had any problems for a bit now. I wonder if it has anything to do with the lock password bug? I did disable my lock password and haven't had any problems since.. might just be a coincidence. Wouldn't hurt to try that too just to see.
hello!
is it possible to really turn OFF my herald's backlight?
this "lowlight" is very nice, but i would like to turn it really off (e.g. battery saving).
regards,
pulyka
Not sure what you mean, do you mean turn the backlight off and still retain full functionality, or do you mean just turn it off quickly so you can put it away in your pocket or something? If it is the latter just tap the power key and the keys lock and the screen turns off instantly.
no, not screen off, backlight off
so when i can see the screen, but there is no any lights on it.
on htc wizard, there was a "turn off backlight after.." checkbox, which really turned off the backlight, however, i could tap on everything, because i saw the patterns on the screen (at sunlight).
sorry for my english

My rooted nook screen keeps turning off while charging, and I can't find the setting to disable it. I have it configured so wi-fi turns on and off with the screen, and sometimes I'd like wifi on in the background to download or do other things. The only way I can do that now is to remember to keep touching the screen every few minutes.
Any help?
I use a widget from the market called Screen ON widget. Just have to tap it to keep screen on. Works great.
Sent from my hacked nook color.
There's an app called 'Setting Profiles' which works well for this situation. The free version allows just one rule which should be fine if this is all you need it for.
Thanks for the response guys. I actually do use Setting profiles, which is what I use to turn the wifi on and off with the screen. I just haven't figured out how to configure it to keep the screen on.
I searched for 'Screen on widget', but I got 3000 hits, and couldn't find it.
Hi there
I'm quite happy with my Nexus One... a very nice change from my old BlackJack 2. However, I have one issue.
When I get an incoming call, sometimes the screen won't wake up at all. Pressing the trackball, etc. does no good. I installed a program called noblock and now it's waking up after the call is over, but the other end has to hang up first.
This has to have something to do with the screen lock in relation to the proximity sensor or something. I'd really love it if I could just set the screen lock to manual, so I can press the power button to turn the screen off and on, getting rid of the slide to unlock screen entirely.
I tried a fix from an older thread to disable the proximity sensor, but it had no effect. It was adding a line (gsm.proximity.enable=false) to build.prop.
Can anyone give me a direction to go? Thanks!
i have some issues with turning my screen on sometimes, it will come on briefly and turn off with just the backlight for capacitive buttons on
2.3.4 ? Are you sure ?
It's some CM nightly ?
When I soft-reset my TD2, leave it be for a while so that backlight dims and then press a HW button or tap the display, backlight comes up back again. However, if the device enters standby the "resume backlight on user activity" function stops working properly for some reason. (I am not sure for how long TD2 has to be left alone - maybe 30 minutes, 1 hour?) Specifically, if the backlight dims and I go to Settings > System > Power > Advanced tab and uncheck "Dim screen after X s", the screen will light up, but if I check this checkbox again, the screen will dim even though I just interacted with the phone and the screen should therefore remain lit up. The only other way to get a fully lit screen (at least until it dims again due to user inactivity) is to lock the phone and unlock it back.
I should also add that this happens with the official stock WM6.5 ROM.
Is there anything in phone settings I should enable or disable, or is there any registry key I should set to some specific value for this feature to work properly again?
Thanks for any help.

I think, you could try to use Lumos that exist in this Thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2955401&postcount=1
Hakim,
thanks for the suggestion, however, in the meantime I learned that the issue is caused by the WM auto-lock feature (it is a bug that nobody cared to fix :-/ ). I was not able to find any useful work-around so I decided to install an application called LockDevice (it should be here somewhere on XDA Devs) which works very well and seems to be relatively light-weight.
Anyway, thanks again for your response.
