Hi,
I am trying to do the battery calibration piece but my phone never reaches 100% when the phone is off i charged it for almost 3-4 Hrs.
can some one help me?
New battery, like $10
i have two batteries now still i see the same issue, it started once i moved to GB Roms, before it was pretty good.
It is normal between 96% and 99%.
Is it normal to not reach 100% when i turn the phone off and charge it?

There has been talk about this occurrence before, but basically it's a battery-life saving feature of Gingerbread. Rather than hold your battery at 100%, which will decrease the battery's life, it charges to 100%, lets it dip down to a certain threshold (like 90%, for example), then recharges again.
That's my understanding, anyway.

Like jmtheiss said t's a GB surge protection not to overcharge the battery. It's a feature not a bug
does this mean we can do battery calibration on GB roms?

Two things regarding Battery Calibration :
1. For Better Battery Life : Always charge upto about 90% and use. Recharge when you reach 10% or even less. This will tremendously increase the life span of Li-Ion battery.
2. As regard to 100% charging :
(i) Boot to CWM, wipe battery stats.
(ii) Reboot and charge until 100%, Disconnect from charger
(ii) Power Off and connect charger again. Charge until 100%
(iii) Boot to CWM, wipe battery stats again.
(iv) Power on the phone and charge until 100%
Done.
Repeat the same, if you wish to re-calibrate the battery after some time.
Tip: Always re-calibrate battery and charge to 100% before flashing any ROM.

As I fiddled around with most of the ROMs out here in XDA, would suggest you to flash a KK4 build like Serenity or Illiminance, if you want a stable GB ROM. KK4 is the latest captivate GB leak and the ROM is awesome. Also, the ad-hoc wi-fi through modifided wpa_supplicant works in this build. The ROM is fast, stable and got good battery life. Try to flash the ROM and I'm sure you will get a great GB ROM without troubles.
Hit thanks, If I helped you out

hello
i just wanna ask something about my battery life on my x8...here's how it goes first i fully charge my battery up to 100% until it says on status battery full...then i unplugged it..after it i texted for a few minutes...and i check the status of my battery and it says: 28 mins 23s on battery..my battery is on 96%..is this normal.? or somethings draining my battery,?
i use minicm7 2.2
this is normal since battery is heating itself while charging, and when it cools down it shows less percentage of itself... to maximaze your current battery life, calibrate the battery:
1. charge it to 100% no more no less
2. leave the charger PLUGGED IN, and reboot to CWM
3. there you should find somewhere under options or advanced "wipe battery stats", and you press that
4. reboot your device and when it starts up it will show about 91%, charge it to 100% and you have your battery calibrated
NOTE: the charger is always plugged in
ok thanks i'll try it... one question should i drain the battery before calibrating it.?..as in zero percent??

Yes , that is recommended.
Also , one advice from me.
Even after calibration , whenever your phone says 100% charged , reboot it while the charger is plugged. You will get the exact battery charge after reboot.
Do it every time your recharge your phone.
Then stop rebooting when you get a 99% or 100% after a fresh reboot. Trust me , it helps.
ok thanks for the advice i'll try that too...
it is normal dude ....mine is giving 1day on heavy use
use zepplinrox's supercharge script...it really made a CONSIDERABLE change to m battery usage time
I have one question: "Why my battery is giving 6-8h. My battery 2 days ago giving 24 and more hour." Sorry for my English, but i am from Poland
what happened 2 days ago? did you install new ROM?
The OP might not have needed to install a new ROM, just an APP or maybe just a combination of APPs running. My phone sometimes canes the battery in a couple of hours from 50% to nothing for no apparent reason. On both stock and custom (actually better battery life on custom) it lasts about a day but sometimes about 6 hours! Not sure what is going on as this happened on both the stock 1.6, 2.1 and the custom 2.3.4!
Hello . This is my first post here. I am having a problem with my battery. i recently bought a new one with 1700mAh,is a compatible one. now the thing is i left my phone to fully charge but is charging only to 89% and stops. my guess is that the phone only see the 1500mAh and the rest of 200 cannot. is there any way to make the phone charge to 100%? Thanks in advance!

i too have a 1700mah battery from the Ace 2 and it works like a normal 1500mah battery would. the first time when i put it in i shut down my phone completely and left it charging for 16 hours (although it did have 50% out of the box). Another thing i learned is that it's better to charge Li-ion batteries when they are below 20%, because they have a limited charge cycle (about 300 charges i think) so when you charge it from 70% to 100% it counts as 1 charge. i used to charge my original battery like that and only lasted 7 months (then my phone restarted randomly, couldn't turn on when actually having more than 70% battery left (the indicator said the battery's dead, but when i pluged it into a charger and turned the phone on it had more than 70% left) !!
so is there any way to make the phone see the 1700mAh?

Does your new battery 3 or 4 contacts? The original batteries have 4 contacts. I think that by the fourth contact phone receives information about the charge, and if the new battery does not have that contact phone does not receive charge Information so it approximates.
what's your 1700mah battery brand and model ?

Try to calibrate it manually. Charge the battery to 100% then with a root explorer go to data/system & delete batterystats.bin file & then unplug the charger.

I think that clearing the batterystats.bin file won't do anything, cause it just stores the info which is shown in the battery usage window in settings. And every time you charge your phone it generates a new batterystats.bin file. Not sure though

He charged phone on start, after some time - probably after use. And if he did not use internet all the time it is possible to get that battery life.
And you discharge phone to almost 0%, charge it 100% and repeat process 2-3 times. You will get better battery time.

I have google around but no real solution.
I have tried calibrating battry, let's see what happens
Battery calibration is something you should do!
If it doesn't work try different FTF Files for your device or even use PC Companion to repair your device...
If you could try custom roms it would be better because if the problem still remains it means there is a hardware problem(Probably battery replacement will be needed).
comeon, no one with a real good idea about source of the problem and its solution?

use your phone untill it turns off - boot into recovey with power then volume up
charge your battery while on recovery twrp from 0 to 100 ( leave it just to charge it may take up to 5 hours )
test again if worked fine on discharge from 12 to 0 so u have a kernel problem
you may change the kernel or try another rom

Ok, I have tried all possible methods
- using an app called BatteryCalibration
- using the charging mode suggested above
- deleting manually the battery stats file
Phone still goes from 12% to 0% in seconds and shuts down.
I DO NOT BELIEVE IT IS A KERNEL PROBLEM because I have the original .157 sony ROM, just rooted with a few crapware disabled
I DO NOT BELIEVE IT IS A BATTERY PROBLEM because I have tried the following: when phone goes from 12% to 0% and shuts off, I plug it in, wait that it charges for say 10 minutes, turn it on, battery is at 4%, unplug it, phone runs for at least 40 minutes (it should shut down).
So it really seems to be a bad reading...
Hmm, i have same problem with battery , when battery is 32-35%, screen off dropping to 22-25% in some minute, but wheni test with screen on 32-35%, don't have problem
It difficult question to answer

It is not the same problem.
My problem is that when the phone (after several hours, also of intensive use) reaches 12% in a few seconds it drops to 11% then suddenly to 0% and it shuts down.
Then, If I charge it for 10 minutes, unplug and turn it on, battery is at 4% and lasts for another hour: this should prove the problem is not the battery but its reading.
And deleting batter stats is useless, besides this being a myth...

it is about bad reading from battery
but as no offline charge on cm roms
