Hey everyone,
I got my first laptop about 6 months back and in comparison to it my desktop just feels slow! My Desire HD even feels quicker! I have about £300 pounds to spend on an upgrade but I am not sure how to have the biggest effect on my system. At the moment I have...
Intel Core2 Duo 6600
Asus P5W-DH Deluxe
GeForce 9800 GTX+
2x 1GB OCZ PC-2 6400 Platinum
Western Digital Raptor 74GB (OS)
2x Samsung F1, 1Tb in Raid 1 (Main)
Enermax Liberty 500W
I use this machine for the normal office and web activities, as an FTP server to serve my media to laptop and phone, and occasional video encoding. I have two ideas about what to upgrade...
1) Swap my raptor for a SSD and chuck in a new Core 2, Quad Core CPU
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...14&subcat=1427
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...d=6&subcat=567
2) Make the move to i5 (Mobo, CPU and Memory) and sacrifice getting a SSD
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...id=339&subcat=
I guess it all comes down to how good the SSD is? Anyways, I just wanted your opinions?
Thanks
Ed
32gb corsair/ocz ssd and 2-4gb extra ram , maybe a q6600 (they go for dirt cheap and oc nicely)
this should be about 200-220 pounds , any money spent higher than that this on an upgrade is unreasonable
also with ssd , as long as its a brand the newer the better , make sure ur not gettin some 1-2 yr old leftover from stock
My primary drive with my OS on is currently 74 GB. This is the perfect size for me as it's always got 60 - 70 GB of data on. If I get a SSD I would probably want it to be a similar size. 32 GB just seems too small. Maybe something like this...
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-059-OC&groupid=701&catid=14&subcat=910
Also with the new Intel G3 and new Sandforce controllers coming out I figured current generation SSD's will drop a bit in price. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
It's interesting you suggested memory. For some stupid reason it didn't come to mind that I am just scraping Windows 7's minimum requirements. I guess its things like that which make me always ask on forums first! A fresh 4 GB ram would probably help a lot more than an upgraded CPU. I was looking at something like this...

Geil has better timings but I have heard good things about Kingston HyperX...
This CPU and memory comes in at under £200 well below my budget and will probs make the world of difference! All the feedback I can get is appreciated!

you dont need a sound card nowdays for the typical user ... and he isnt a gamer so i guess he doesnt need a better gfx , gtx+ is fairly decent , around a 4870 or 4890 , should be able to play crysis 2 on hardcore setting
also there decent enuff 775 cpu's to make the jump to am3 or intel i series unreasoned
and coming from a 3.5gb ddr1 400 config to a 2gb , later 6gb ddr3 1600 config i can tell the speed of the ram is hardly noticable , the trouble starts when it runs out

Very true! Also with the price of that recommended mobo, CPU and RAM in the UK I could get for a similar amount the core i5 option I found which is probably better...
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...id=339&subcat=
Instead I like the sound of the cheaper option (SSD and RAM). That would probably fit my demands, and if not I can make another upgrade and carry across the SSD.
Has anyone got a convincing argument to not go for a SSD and 4Gb RAM?
keep the 2gb , and ull have 6 .
Can I do that? Would you put the new memory sticks in A1 and B1, and the old sticks in A2 and B2. That way the total in channel A would equal the total in channel B?

any of the new sandybridge cpu's are nice. I upgraded from an e6600 at the beginning of the year (new mobo and mem, kept hdd and everything else) and the upgrade was night/day.

ive done the same from amd single core 1800mhz to quad core 3400mhz and on my day to day tasks(other than games) i find myself waiting for my slow hdd as i did with the old comp ... ssd would be the first thing i get ... but im always busy changing phones
Haven't really tried SSDs yet... I have way too much stuff to use an SDD effectively. I'd suggest that you go for upgrades that'll stay for a while, like going for a REALLY good processor, mobo and RAM combo and then start thinking about upgrading the other stuff.

I have 2TB of media but my plan is to put OS on SSD and media on other drives. That setup should use SSD effectively. I agree completely with the rest of your post. I would love a nice new 'REALLY' good SandyBridge CPU, Mobo and RAM but that will blow my budget apart. By getting a good SSD it will stay for a while and be transferable from any system to any system too.
If I am unhappy with SSD choice I can always save again and make the move to SandyBridge at a later date.
I want so steer the whole conversation in a new direction now...
What SSD would people recommend?
Im struggling with my SSD choice. I know good solid options are the Intel X-25M and the OCZ Revodrive. I can get both of these in 80Gb options for about £170.

I know that for the same price I can get the new Intel SSD's in a 120GB variant but reviews suggest that the Intel X-25M and the OCZ Revodrive both beat the new Intel. As my aim is performance and as i dont need that extra space on my primary drive i have ruled it out.
The question is should I future proof my buy by stretching my budget to an OCZ Vertex 3.

Neither Get your budget to £220 then get an intel 510 120GB

To get advice on this upgrade I only posted here and on PCstats. I still havent heard anything on PCstats. I thought XDA would be pretty poor as its for mobile devices but the responses have been pretty good.
Thanks everyone!!

What does this mean for us? Possible that we only have 384 megs of ram?
and this is a dev issue how? it belongs in the Q&A section.
Since a lot of people here are trying to figure out how to free up ram up to the 512 limit ( or even close to it) it could belong here.
This has been discussed at length how much ram ourphones have. Posting a picture of a vzw ad does not helped dev's do anything with freeing up our ram.

Hmm, just checked gsmarena and there is nothing on the ram of the fascinate, so this might just be true. O.O On gsmarena, it shows as all the other galaxy s phones with 512 mb of ram.
if it is, that kinda sucks, even though you get camera flash, i would gladly take the extra 130mb~ or so of ram :/
Can I just make a quick point here without stepping on anyone's feet?
When you buy a computer advertised to have 4gb of ram, do you actually get to use all 4gb of that ram? No. Your computer takes some of it and divides it up for other purposes. Some is strictly for the OS, some goes and get dedicated to your GPU, and the rest you get to use. The story is the same for our phones. There is a 512mb chip in there for ram. You will only get to use ~380mb of it.
Same for a hard drive. As I've said once before...

That is cuz how microsoft's file system, NTFS, which counts 1024 kb = 1 mb. That is why it is off. This has nothing to do with NTFS. This is most likely that the ram isnt there. If what you said is the case, that would mean all of the galaxy s phones would be advertised as 304 mb, cuz that is all the is usable at stock.
And your hard drive comparison, thats because for 1 TB to show up in windows, it would have to be 1024 GB instead of the normal 1000 GB just because NTFS has a different way of counting bytes.

No, that is a really terrible analogy. You buy a 1TB hard drive. You get 1TB, counted in decimal. Just because you don't comprehend the difference between binary and decimal doesn't mean you're suddenly losing space. IT IS THE SAME AMOUNT OF SPACE.
Pretend I point to a can of paint and say it is navy blue. Some other guy comes along and says it is actually 000080 in RGB Hex value. You return your can of pain to the store and yell at the manager that you didn't get navy blue.
That's pretty much what you're saying about hard drives. You are not losing anything at all. Period. End of discussion. A computer simply interprets bits in a different numbering system than what we are used to (binary vs. decimal). There is no magic. There is no loss.
Likewise, your 4GB of RAM analogy is also incredibly flawed. When I buy 4GB of RAM, do I get 4GB? Yes, absolutely. There is exactly 4096KB of RAM there. I can have it sitting on my desk and there is 4GB there. I can install it in my machine and there is 4GB there. What it is used for is irrelevant. It is still 4GB that I paid for. I know that for a fact.
For our phones, we do not know for sure that there is exactly 512MB of RAM and, even if we did, we do not know if there is exactly 208MB of RAM being used for system processes or dedicated to the GPU. It could just be reserved for absolutely no purpose or it could not exist at all (after all, 208MB of RAM is an absurdly large amount of RAM to use for the system when we're still using EVEN MORE for android processes we can clearly see in any decent task manager). You don't know and neither do I.
It has nothing to do with the NTFS file system. It has to do with how the OS counts (megabyte vs mebibyte - base 10 vs base 2).
In regards to RAM, PC manufacturers do state if the GPU is using shared memory. Other than a non-discrete GPU, RAM in a computer isn't typically statically reserved.
The Galaxy S has never had 384~ MB available to the user. The most that can be squeezed out at present, and still have a fully functional phone, is 340~ MB.
So perhaps a developer has more to say about this... since they DEVELOP? It is awful lot of RAM to be used for unknown stuff
Eh, he still has a point. There's 512 there, just some of it is used for the system. I forgive Samsung for this since all android phones (heck, all OS's) suffer this phenomena.
I read somewhere that Samsung chose to statically allocate it rather than dynamically, just to really increase stability. So the cappy may be worse but still you always see this in some form
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Then why Galaxy Tab shows 444 of available RAM?
Because that's a tablet?

You just said the RAM was different.
Anyways, that doesn't change my point that some RAM is always taken by the system OS. Android is a little unique in that each hardware distributor is allowed to tweak the OS so the level of system RAM reserved changes but its still there always

They said the amount of *AVAILABLE* RAM shows differently. Insinuating that when two pieces of hardware that are identical show different amounts of available RAM (available, not physically present) that there is something else going on that we the user aren't aware of.
Unknowns like this lead to people asking questions. People asking questions lead to answers. Answers lead to optimizations by brilliant XDA developers. Brilliant XDA developers making optimizations lead to terribly happy users like myself.
So it's in the interest of everyone posting in these forums to ask questions and try to come up with possible answers besides "No".
Yes, we know OSes use RAM and allocates it to various things. I think the issue as stated by others already is that we don't know how MUCH RAM is being used by the OS in our case.
If one device says we have 340 MB RAM available, and another almost identical device says 444 MB RAM available then that means it's POSSIBLE that our brilliant XDA developers could discover how to free up another 100 MB RAM to do fascinating things with.
It's NOT possible for them to discover that if people asking questions and helpful suggestions are shut down by negative people simply stating "NO".
https://github.com/cmsgs/android_device_samsung_galaxys/blob/master/config
you can go here and check out the reserved memory allocation. See line 766 and 1394 under "reserved memory config." the reserved mem adds up to approx. 140 mb. give or take a few. That would put us pretty close to 512. Some of that can be freed up as has been done on the i9000 forum. They have successfully freed up 40-50 mb to be used as free ram, although freeing up too much from certain locations can have negative results such as hindering 720p playback. See speedmod froyo in the i9000 forum for details. [KERNEL] SpeedMod Froyo 340MB RAM Optimized + Sharpness fix by Hardcore. I also think sztupy, developer of z4mod (I believe) had something to do with it.
Just a matter of time and hopefully we will have the same.
I know they're both advertised as having 512MB, but the Tab has more physical RAM than the phone. You can find a post somewhere in the forum talking about the memory chip configuration. The Tab has 128MB more than the phone. That's the primary reason the Tab has so much more available memory.

I just had to chime in - to satisfy the MS/HDD argument, an even better analogy: You purchase a Dell computer that is advertised to have a 500gb HDD. It arrives at your door only for you to find that (GASP!) the Windows install took 10gb, leaving you with only 490gb.
I believe that most if not all mobile handset manufacturers do this to some extemt. My Droid Incredible had 16gb of onboard storage advertised. They didn't mention that 4gb of that was reserved for the actual Android OS. It honestly never crossed my mind to feel swindled - it's just how it is.
That being said, I grow tired of this thread popping up as bumped when I check the Dev Forums for updates. While this discussion certainly has merit, it's nothing new to developers, nor does it have merit for them in particular.
Mods, can we get this thread locked or moved?

I'm starting college next month (I'm 18) and I'm trying to decide which laptop to purchase.
I had a thought about the Asus Transformer tablet/dock combo as I wanted to remain in the android modding field, but then I kinda realised that it's not going to be powerful enough, so my mind switched to a solid laptop/notebook instead.
I think I need a 14-15 inch led screen with core 2nd gen i5 (i7 is too expensive for me.) and as lightweight as possible. I'm going to be doing Bachelor in Electronic and Communication Engineering so the graphics should be good enough for some engineering drawings and picture editing, and for some nice gaming if possible. I don't have any knowledge about graphic cards, cache memory and RAM stuff btw. I'm thinking something not above $1000.
Which good models do you guys recommend me?
PS: I don't want Mac stuff, I need Windows 7 to work.
EDIT on 2nd of September:
Sorry to revive this old thread, but fact is, I still haven't purchased my laptop.
I'm looking for something (at max $1000) with core i5 and some other good specs as well as those 2 things:
1. HD webcam
2. backlit keyboard.
Those are very important. Thank you
I am a very happy owner of the Dell XPS 17 which I found really powerful, more than enough for gaming as well, and right now is probably one of the best choice on the market (from what the reviews said as well).
Anyway, you can start to customize the 15" inch version, the XPS 15 ,from 899$ with and I5 second generation (Sandybridge) and an Nvidia GeForce GT 550M 1GB RAM with Optimus Technology (saves battery).
it offers USB 3.0 as well, with the latest HDMI 1.4, card reader,1600x900p resolution screen, excellent Audio with Sub, and comes with a HD webcam integrated for HD video calls.
Enought for gaming (medium settings) and decent professional rendering.
http://www.dell.com/us/p/xps-l702x/pd?oc=dndokq1&model_id=xps-l702x
Hope it helped.
Really nice reply, I'm having a look at the XPS 15 right now, thank you very much. I tried running some search, came across the Lenovo IdeaPad 14" and the HP ENVY 14. What do you think about those?
I heard from user opinions that Dell are pretty good, and HP's build quality is kinda bad. I'm searching for some more models.
I had a look at the Alienware 14", kinda expensive for a laptop with no multitouch input :/
HP in general, is famous to have issues cooling problems, but not obviously on every model, Dell is definitely not a "saint" but they do the job, and from what I have read and my experience, they do it well.
The Alienware 14" is a good choice and it does have the same GPU on my XPS 17, which is the Nvidia 555M 3GB (pretty powerful card).
I wouldn't recommend thus a 14".
If you are planning to use it for casual gaming, but specially for professional rendering the resolution of the screen, is generally 1200x800, which is too low (HP Envy 14"; Lenovo IdeaPad), and it does bother you, if you have ever seen a 1080p or at least a 900p.
The alienware does have a 900p resolution, but you have to pay more.
With the alienware 14", anyway you will end up to have a smaller screen , which for a less amount of money you could get for a 15" inch with a very decent specs.
I also read in other forums people not really recommend a 14" inches, or at least they wouldn't buy it again. But this is just an individual opinion, depends entirely on you.
Personally, stick with the 15" and at least a 900p resolution, which you can find already in the basic configuration for a 899$, in the XPS 15, and if you want to reach a 1000$ customize it to have more power, except RAM, which you can upgrade by yourself for a cheaper price.
I have a 14" HP laptop and I love the size and portability... but the battery life is abominable. It gets maybe 90 minutes to a charge. I wouldn't recommend one for college use where you're going to be mobile for hours at a time.
My work laptop is a 14" Dell and I learned last week I can get 6 hours out of my battery (forgot to plug it in).
One thing to keep in mind with 15" or larger laptops is alot of them include a numpad with the keyboard these days. That means the QWERTY part of the keyboard is off-center to the left. I find this awkward to type on. I would recommend trying out this type of keyboard before committing to it.

Sorry to revive this old thread, but fact is, I still haven't purchased my laptop.
I'm gonna have a look at the VAIOs. I'm looking for something (at max $1000) with core i5 and some other good specs as well as those 2 things:
1. HD webcam
2. backlit keyboard.
Those are very important. Thank you
Sorry, couldn't resist!

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone has any knowledge / opinions regarding graphics cards. I'm tossing up weather to buy an Asus GTX 560Ti TOP as they seem to be fantastic for the price point ATM..... or wait for the new nVidia chipset release? Any ideas !?
How is the rest of your system looking? It might be a bit of an overkill, i would go with the GTX560 of 580, It should be ok for the next 2 years. Are you a hardcore gamer?
Hey mate, I'm not really a hard-core gamer but i figure for the price point i might as well go for it, plus a little bit of headroom would be nice.
Intel i7-2600k
8GB G-Skill DDR3 18600
60GB Sata 6Gbps SSD (For OS)
Various Drives for storage.

The 560 will give you some headroom too. And later down tbe road when prices drop on the Kepler drop you can upgrade to that one. Are you an overclocker? Squeeze a bit more out of the 2600k and 560 and you wont notice any real-life performance difference from the Kepler.
If Kepler flops like what I'm hearing I'll be pee'd off as I'm hoping for a price war at the high end so I can upgrade my GTX580.

Then you can sell your GTX580 to the OP since he isnt a hardcore gamer and everybody is happy. Solution found! Damn, I'm good. Lol.
I dont know if I would purchase such a high end video card the second it came out. I would wait like 5 months or until a second revision of the product so they can work out bugs with drivers or even with the manufacturing process.
Not to change the direction or anything but have you taken a look over at AMD? i use both products and the 7000 series is pretty good not to mention its latest and greatest 7990 6GB GDDR5 lol way too much ($800). but anyways....
I use the AMD XFX HD 6770 and need to upgrade but if Nvidia is what your looking at you might want to get the GTX 570?

yeah but the 680 like the 580, 590 has problems with overclocking.
I rather have a stable card then a blazing fast card that will only last me a month

Well it depends on what works best if you have intel Nvidia works best plus the processor speed too etc.....
680 GTX i tested a beta board for 2 weeks.
No issue's.. just damn power hungry.
I would suggest... once they revise and prices have dropped.
Else.. radeon makes some OP cards as well.
Memory
But basically aim for a 2GB Gddr5 card.. ^_^
Bus Width
Always check the bus width.. the wider the better. ^-^ 128 bit cards mostly suck. 256bit and upward are Can be OP cards..
Core clock speeds..
idk.. depend on manufacturer revision.. Higher clocks are almost always better.
Some cards like nvidia have shader and cuda engines... the may have separate clocks..
If you find a card you like... google it and see how it stacks up.. there are many sites will to provide info. ^_^
Good luck guy.
I disagree with the post above nvdia usually generate a lot less heat compare to amd and the definitely generate a lot less power.
In my opinion the best graphic card suited for the operator is hd6950 because of the price point and you can flash the bios to hd 6970 make it one of the best bang for buck .

sorry to let you know guys, but no dual-core from qualcomm supports dual-sim, only msm7227/ arm v6 & /a arm v7 supports, which are not at par
also i highly doubt if its a broadcomm dual core with power vr530/35 which is on most china phones, but i cant be sure , just adding my opinion
also the 512mb. is not good, seeing its gonna updated to ics & got a dual core may be qualcomm/broadcomm, as games & other stuff will strugle for performance due to lacking ram, same issues can be seen with optimus 2x & xperia play (sony not updating it to ics because games wont works well on ics + 512MB. ram) & you can also check playing mass effect inifilator on ics + on gb. & see the difference, it will crash after some time on bonus levels (the culprit is low ram)
,gonna buy it if it got 1GB. ram
+ no complain for wvga, we can use lower dpi as it got bigger screen,
m' gonna pay upto 17k if it got real s3/s4 qualcomm soc + 1GB. ram
yes, even Spice MI-425 also has msm7227 and adreno 200 so we need to see the specs of this MI-500 very closely.

Yeah 512 RAM is definitely a bummer....but launch is still a month away...maybe final specs are different...
Lets watch...
And 480x800/850 262K colors for a 5" screen(my guess)
I do expect atleast a 16m colors atleast for same resolution.
They could increase the price for a 720p screen and win the market...
For me the bummer are:
- 512 mb ram still (atleast increase by 256 to 768 mb)
- Still 5.0 MP cam
Not sure about the screen res as of now but definitely 840X480 could be OK if the color supported are 16M as its the same case with my Archos Tablet whose screen is quite crisp.

hi
this looks intresting may be ill wait for some time and then upgrade
i did fall in love with the HTC one X but it was t costly for me
but this looks ok for me thanks guys for the info
The Mobile Indian has put up a first look, looks like a Chinese variant being shown off.
The link
From the looks of it, looks like 480x800, 262k (not 16M) or my eyes deceive me
after one year spice mi 410 got its competitor in terms of spec and price.
this is just vfm.

hi
one thing for sure they are improving the looks now with the new range
screen in poor maybe 16m colour, but colours are warm similar to mi-410
also no led for camera(@ p5
but @page 1-2 they say it got a led flash
+ (doubt starts here) www.themobileindian.com/news/6935_First-Look-Spice-Stellar-Horizon_3
" Spice has used the same Snapdragon
processor as in the Mi-425, but a slightly
bigger 300 MHz GPU to tackle the extra load
from the larger screen.
Spice Stellar Horizon has a 4 GB internal
memory as well as 512 MB RAM which will also
aide its performance (Internal memory enables
faster performance)."
this site is one of the poorest reviewers
1. they say it got dual core on page 1 but on 3 they say it got same chip as mi 425
2. they say gpu @300 compared to mi 425, to cope with large screen, now how will it help as resolution is same i think wvga for both, 4" 5" dont matters, also as far i know on orig. htc desire adreno 200 was clocked at 92-108mhz. + doing 720p vid. rec. + play at highest, and if its adreno 200 as parkhi say & m conc. for dual sim thing, such higher oc' is not possible for old chip by 200% without liquid nitrogen cooler
+ if its really got a dual core, then it must have hd video rec. atleast 720p or something
3. + they say 4gb. int. mem. with 512mb. ram will help stability, now how int. mem. had to do anything with ram
any the themed rom looks cool with sauve hd icons
they are whole bunch of noobs, the indian mobile guys
spice had already used confusing adv. earliar also they said mi 270 dual core (cpu + gsm radio cpu for dual sim spp) & dedicated gpu @333 but there wasnt any gpu, some said the other radio cpu is gpu, i bought mi-410 becuase i know it was a ideos x6 variant but latter i knew it was foxconn and now we got no official support or anything, so i wont go for spice again>> this ome game is not good,
my next mobile-
sony> htc > huawei> ome > samsung
good bye friends m' getting myself a new phone next month, maybe a evo 3d so i wont be frequent to this forum
good bye guys, thanks for everything
i will still own this phone till it get sold
Nitin even I'm thinking of selling this but why Samsung is last in your list and is Huawei better than Samsung, What is OME?
Thanks
hi
the Bad part is even though Spice has so many showroom at least in Bangalore they do have quite a lot. They dont promote their own Mobiles in their show room
just walk in to any show room and u will have to ask for their own brand to get info on the same very sad in deed. if this was my show room and my Brand the 1st thing i would do is start seriously promoting my Mobiles
at least show it to every customer who walks in .I just dont understand why Spice does not do it

I think you are talking about Spice HotSpots and they know that what they sell is just chinese re-branded and nothing of high quality and the showrooms doesn't run on these goods, they advertise HTC and Samsung.
the policy is same even on saholic (their official online store)

hi
yea u are right buddy but what the hell its their product and logically speaking if it was mine and my show room id at least show it to all the walk in customers
When I look at the XSP device info, the ram size 766 mb even though the phone is 1 gb
compared with another 1 gb ram phone, in the device info it says 971 mb, so that results in about 200 mb free extra memory in the second phone
I searched a lot and couldn't find anything about this.
Is there a way to make the Xperia SP show 900+ mb?
before anyone says that its system reserved, how come the second phone has a much smaller reserved value?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Second phone is Tengda T94 (chinese phone) the multitasking difference in the XSP cannot be compared to the T94, the T94 is so much better
its very frustrating to look around for a solution for a 1 gb ram phone! to get better multitasking!!! i feel like im looking for a solution for an entry android device. i love this phone i wish i can find a way to get better multitasking as its an important basic smartphone feature
I think its just bad ram management. My SP on CM10.2 works without problems
Shows about 841 mb (total)
Sony Software can't do this!

It is something to do with the kernel I think
Sent from my C5303 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
there is nothing u could do in stock ROM unless u greenify everything + remove every bloatwares
but theres nothing wrong with the running ram, just let it filled... android is different alot than PC, in android the RAM is used to be filled, its normal... i remember some XDA members said that "unused ram is a wasted ram"
MAYBE, sony intented to do that to limit the apps prosessing

well i found the answer, this 250 mb of ram that is hidden is reserved for the gpu as i read on some article.
and there could be a way to amend that a little bit through some kernel.
im now disappointed and thinking about replacing this phone as multitasking is very poor and its a basic feature of a smart phone.
its strange to see a chinese phone that is 110 usd faster with better multitasking and even the screen quality and gaming is better! why cant a top company like sony do something to give access to the 1 gb ram which is very needed for basic use

don't think more Ram will get you faster, new chips it is ..( bigger Cpu Cache, bigger GPU, Dual channel memory )
sony need those 200mb for gpu, because it's a multimedia hd phone and gaming phone ( 320 gpu like xz :fingers-crossed: )...so you get hd movie recorder , hd games, even you can trow this to hd tv ...
i have this $200 chinnese quadcore with msm8225 , 203 gpu,1Gb ram ... and i believe xsp faster than this chinnese quadcore
and this phone don't have NFC, can't play full hd movie, lags on hd games, can't record full hd movie, no os update, and the list will go on ...
antutu about 13k on this chip, on quadcore mediatek chip about 16k, xsp about 21k ... you tell me who is the fastest ...
so, don't bother what is show on bench, user experience is...

Please no more chinese phone jokes,
unless you found one with a Snapdragon 600/800 etc, the GPU performance is in those 110 USD chinese "Super phones" is very poor.
Not even comparable to the Adreno 225 let alone 320.

Haha,my friend has a sgs4 and that has 2gb ram and 1.81 user accesible. At times his phone has 700-900 mb free...so dont complain
Phone is very good. And i honestly believe that another 100-150 MB of ram wouldnt make any difference...They would in my previous xperia X8 which had 27MB free ram all the time...But when you have 350+ free as i do now, being 500 wont change a thing.
With 250 EUR i got a phone with almost the performance of xpZ (yeah cause of 720 screen but its ok for me ) that wont slow down on everything you throw at it.So dont complain about the little missing RAM which as said is not wasted but is being used but for the GPU.:good:
