I have a Nexus One running cm7 theme Inexus and I love this phone. Its in great shape and never thought in my mind I would ever consider selling it. Everything about it since I first got it, does everything I want it to do. Now comes into the question. I'm with T-Mobile and been with them since the begining but I feel it's time to say goodbye to them for couple different reasons. Looks like I'm going to go with cincinnati bell and they told me I could use my Nexus One with them that was great news. When I was at the store I picked up the Galaxy S and felt pretty good.
Whats the pros and cons of Nexus One and the Galaxy S. Or even though the Galaxy S felt good not on same level of N1?
Thanks for all that might beable to help me with this question.
Don't know if it matters. I have had a nexus one. Later, on ATT I picked up a captivate. I personally loved the feel of it, but the gps issues and the lack of a camera flash were game breakers to me. However, the power in screen quality almost made up for it. But here I am, sold my captivate and have an att nexus one and still love it.
Well, honestly, I would never move away from the Nexus One for a Galaxy S at this moment in time... yeah, the phone has great features but lacks the build quality of the Nexus One... the "plastic" finish just doesn't cut it... too many surface scratches too easily!!
This is the input I'm looking for, thanks guys keep them coming. I don't want to regret getting rid of my N1 if the time comes. I wish the N1 speaker sounded just a lil bit better when listening to music. But not complaining cause my N1 has been out standing for me. My girl has a comet and the speaker when listening to music sounds like its coming from a high end stereo ha.
If the AT& -T-Mobile deal goes through, would you eventually be without a 3G signal once AT&T scaps the AWS band frequency? Does Cincinatti Bell roam onto TMO's towers?
Not sure good question. Where I live with T-Mobile I'm just outside the 3g coverage. I use wifi at home. 10mins up the road 3 g kicks in.

They haven't been clear yet on how the merge would affect current phones. But one would assume they would only use the EDGE network. Because of the time it would take to finalize the deal they would most likely be able to keep the network intact till the contract ends and either offer replacements or some sort of compensation for rendering the phones useless on their new network.
Has anybody had a galaxy and a nexus one? Do they run bout the same? I know galaxy Dosnt have a flash on camera. Looking for lil more pros and cons.
Trackball, and Trackball wake
I myself have had ample time to play with both devices as my lil bro has a nexus s and i have a nexus one yes the build quality by HTC is better than the Sammy but with 500 dollar phones you had better have a case on that sucker so the plastic feel would be out the widow there. Now the hardware in the Sammy is not that much better than that in the HTC and does not hold enough gains over my nexus to make me get it. And the ultimate deal breaker for me is and it may make me keep this nexus one until im forced to get rid of it and that is the trackball alerts. There is no way that I would be able to live without my trackball notifications and trackball wake. Just my 2 cents

My younger brother uses the SGS and when comparing the two.. I hate the feeling of the galaxy. Not too comfortable in my hand and the plastic feeling ughh (But its great with the otterbox commuter case) Comparing the two when playing some games (I don't play so I could really care less), sgs definitely runs it faster but no camera flash is terrible. I can't live without the flash, (I almost use the camera everyday! Even in the hospital!) the torch app is so useful too. Some hardware on sgs is better, but it's missing some stuff the nexus has. It's a tough decision between the two. I hope that putting the things in brackets sort of show that it really depends on how you're going to use your phone.
Since I have the nexus and the sgs isn't a major upgrade, I'm just gonna wait it out.
If I had to choose between the two, I would go for the nexus. (To be honest, I wouldn't go for either at the rate phones are coming out right now! Just hold on to your current for a bit more!)

+1 and +1! I always have my eye on the trackball for notifications. I guess I'm gonna have to get used to this soon though Reminds me if games like goldeneye back then.. damn that game. I dunno if it's just me but b/c of it, I play all fps games with the controller settings inverted! Can't get used to that, dunno how I'll get used to no ball!!
Everybody has been very helpful. Thank you very much. Now I need lil more help on different matter lol.
My girl got the Hauwei 8100 and I just rooted it but now I want to put a stable cyanmod on it. But I have no clue what to do or where to go or what to get. I know my N1 but I have no clue bout her new phone. Can I get some help or links or step by step . (A easy way to do it ha)
Having both, the galaxy s has an amazing screen, amazing! N1 feels. Better in hand. They both run just as fast once rommed.

I keeped the N1. I just love this phone. My girl brought back the huawei phone sucked and got the blaze. She loves it. Just need to root it and rom it ha.

Hey XDA,
I've had the G1 for more than a year and a half now, and with all these new phones coming out im really considering a nexus one. But there are allota questions i still have to ask that pertain to people that actually have the phone. I'd appreciate any help.
1. I'm sick and tired of getting the newest "hottest" phone, and then realizing theres so much more just around the corner. With the EVO 4G coming out, the HTC Desire on the horizon, the new Iphone announcement most likely coming in summer - i just want to know if the nexus one is "futureproof". I've been flashing ROMs to my g1 just to keep it as close to the newest and greatest android i can get on it, but i really know now with all these snapdragon processor phones coming out the g1 aint gonna cut it. What do you guys think about the nexus one being futureproof? I'm most likely going to be flashing the latest Cynanogen or the new Desire ROMs on it when I get it. Will cooked ROMs enable me to be on par wiht the competition the Nexus will get in the coming months?
2. How does the Nexus One compare to the HTC Desire? I know they are pretty much the same phone but looking at some reviews, it seems like the Desire is much more highly touted. Since I can get the Desire ROM on my Nexus One when I get it, will the two phones really function that different? Is there a noticable speed boost with that extra about 70MB of RAM the Desire has? I've heard some things about the screen being very responsive - is the screen on the Desire different from the Nexus One? Really, what's so great about the Desire the Nexus One doesn't have?
3. Really. How fast is the Nexus One, stock and with a Cynanogen ROM? Do livewallpapers work flawlessly? Does switching from app to app happen blazing fast?
4. Is the screen that bad to use in the sunlight where its pretty much rendered unusable? I'd like to know from you guys experiencing the phone.
5. About that reception issue the Nexus One is having, is there a really high cahnce the phone I order will have the issue at this point? Is the signal reception issues really bad where I will have that much trouble getting 3g? How bad is it really? I live in NY. So if anyone of u guys live here i'd appreciate your view.
Thanks alot XDA, I'm really looking forward to some answers, and apologize for taking your time.
Greetings!
Like I always say, these are all based on my opinion and experience. You or others might think otherwise...
1- IMO the N1 will be a keeper for quiet awhile, although there might be great phones that are out or coming out, they are less likely to have the latest updates since they arent google devices, they alsi wont get as much attention from the devs compared to the N1‚ just like the G1 to Hero/Mytouch.
2- I consider the desire to be an N1 with sense UI, they're very similar, except for a few things like N1’s noise cancellation features which the desire won't have, anything the desire has however, you have the option to have in the N1 when you flash Modaco's Alpha version of the desire. ( I should say its great for being an Alpha version only).
3- I cannot stress how fast this phone is. live wallpaper works flawlessly and you have Cyanogen, Enomther, Kingklicks and other ROMs available that makes it even better.
4-AMOLED isn't as great as SUPER AMOLED, but with the auto brightness tweak that Enom and Cyan and Modaco have in their ROMs make it good enough for me.
5- I never had a problem with my order or my device, and I ordered it January so they probably fixed minor issues by now to avoid returns, still I suggest you give it a few days before unlocking and rooting ur phone just incase... As far as signal goes I think its all about the network you're on, and since the N1 will be available to all carriers if not already, pick the network that suits u best.
Good Luck brother!!!
1. Nexus one ftw, i just got my nexus one over the HTC desire paying around $260 more for nexus. Reason nexus got many pros n zero cons. Nexus one is one phone gonna live more than 2 years coz its google branded and sold by google and at max only a 1.5 ghz phone can be out in the market and its not gonna happen till mid 2011. Nexus got OC, it is developer friendly it got a big developer support, i know how it feels not to have a good developer backbone. We got all the funky, risk taking deveopers here which is going to unlikely with any other phone. Most G1 developers shifted to N1. For the screen i travel a lot around the worls and nexus has been with me in the brightest SUN. If you make the brightness around 1/2 u can see most stuff on screen, for text reading u need to turn it to full, same was with my Hero, Magic, G1 and Liquid.
For the reception Nexus is the only phone i got which has 2 bars in the basement of my mall which is 2 floor underground.
About EVO, i may have one of the biggest hand but handling HTC HD2 was nothing like holding a monster, its barely gonna look good in ur hand, u will feel awkward n clarity of Nexus will be more due to higher dpi of Nexus. and for EVO on NExus will surely run faster due to the devs we have here. Everything will be ported to nexus. Nexus will have best of both worlds VANILLA (CYANOGEN) and Sense(Paulobrien{Modaco}.
For the speed i currently have more than 413 apps on my phone last i checked n it is still faster than stock nexus one ( U know stock isnt gonna be slow). i get no Lag nothing, NO FC n battery lasts around 14-15 hours ( I use it at full brightness coz i am mostly outside and i got wifi always on, twitter checks every 5 min, 3g always on, Web browsing on the go sites like xda and gizmodo etc, n play my favourite game asphalt(almost finished, was released around 5 days ago n it is a long game), i got no complaints with nexus n i ordered it with a dock coz dock is awesome
About the Build quality- My dad threw my phone in anger on a hard marble floor from around 6 feet and it bounced 3-4 times on floor. no scratch nothing, guess i was lucky (dont try this)
I love the nexus and i am proud to say NEXUS FTW
will tel more of my expreience but gotta go, hope u get it soon
bumpitup wishing to hear even more responses!
Im having the exact same problem as you... I have the g1 currently and love the roms and all the work that the devs have put into it, but my g1 isn't cutting it anymore and i need an upgrade. I was looking at the HTC desire (im in the UK) which on tmobile will be considerably cheaper than the N1 when it gets released, but I am dubious whether the Desire is going to be right for me. I really want a phone that a lot of the devs will support so it can be as fun as the g1 was for me
Buy one i just got mine two days ago, best android phone, better then the iphone in every sense, if your into complete freedom and customization you will love it....

wrd up man, the g1 was hella fun. but with the nexus one out now, im definitely looking for something better than the g1 - and i want that same fun, flashing different ROMs, customizing the hell out of it, showing it off, it was great. definitely stuck on purchasing the n1 though because its alot of money to invest when there are more phones just around the cornerrr
Im almost positive you guys will love the N1, specially coming from a G1. For me it'll take a lot for the competing phones to pass up the N1, unless they come out with a dual processor phone that looks as pretty as the N1, then its time to switch to a new phone.
I've been out of the phone market for a bit, making due with a cooked Windows Mobile 6.5 on T-Mobile because of not being able to sync my corp email on Android.
Got an email today and seen the new myTouch 3G Slide. I had a Sidekick 3 a few years ago and love QWERTY keyboards on phones. I have an iPod Touch and not sure if I could use a virtual keyboard with all the texting/emailing/ircing I do from my phone (I work in IT). Just from the picture, I immediately thought this would be my next phone.
After further research, it looks like the myTouch 3G Slide is geared for consumers/family while I would consider myself a power user. Compared to the Nexus One, it has a scaled down CPU (600mhz) and has the Expresso UI, which I think I would rather just have a stock Android. But it does have a QWERTY keyboard!
I started looking at the Nexus One. Faster processor, stock Android but no QWERTY keyboard.
I'm trying to decide which phone is for me. I would like to stay with T-Mobile. I tried Verizon for a day, bill was $40 more per month and they had IRC ports blocked. I want to be able to multitask and IRC/AIM from my phone, with IRC constantly connected in the background.
Also, I do not live in a T-Mobile 3G area. I would be on the Edge network and not sure how either of these newer phones would perform.
After some time, I could probably reload the Slide without the custom UI, but I'll be stuck with a 600mhz processor and that bothers me.
With the Nexus, I would have a better performing phone but no QWERTY. The QWERTY might be the deal breaker but I'm not 100% sure.
Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!
The Nexus One is the first phone I've owned without a hardware qwerty keyboard and I thought it was going to a really tough transition. Then I got the swype beta. I still prefer hardware keyboards, but I wouldn't trade my Nexus for anything else on the market right now.
Having used the MyTouch3G and now using the Nexus One, I'd have to say N1. Especially if you're an IT guy and wish to do multitasking and moreover wish to multitask without facepalming every 5 minutes. There is NO comparison in speed between the MT3G and the Nexus One. The N1 is snappy every minute of the day no matter what I throw at it. The MT3G can still do all the same things, but honestly, it's slowwwwwwww... Go Nexus One and get yourself Swype. You'll never need another hardware keyboard again.
Don't disappoint yourself!
Edit: Unlock your bootloader and load whatever UI or custom ROM you'd like on your N1
Jim
You must be kidding?
Smaller screen
Lower resolution
Slow processor
Weird custom UI
Low developer support
Most likely locked to T-Mobile
And a bit ugly
You can get used to using an on-screen keyboard. And there's more than a half-dozen of them to choose from.
You can't get used to small, slow, outdated, crappy hardware.
If you REALLY want a physical keyboard, at least the Nexus One is unlocked and has extremely high resellability. So when a Snapdragon-wielding physical keyboard phone arrives, you can make the swap easily.
There's just no contest here.
At least wait for the LG Ally to get released before you make any decisions.

Here's my two cents.
A smartphone without 3G BLOWS...you won't enjoy the full capability of the device.
If I were you... I'd go with Sprint. Chances are they have 3G in your area. The Evo 4G is the device you want. If you're really a power user, you'll want to shoot yourself if you have a slower device than you need to... and I'll be honest. I had a G1 prior to the N1. I was weary of not having a hardware keyboard, but typing on a large screen makes it much easier... the Evo will probably be even easier.

I know exactly how that feels so I can relate!
So with that being said, I think it's time for me to get off T-Mobile since they do not have 3G in my area. I liked T-Mobile because they are an underdog and I have a grandfathered unlimited Internet package for only $20/month. Sprint and Verizon do have 3G in my area. This has been a non-issue with my old phone since I mainly used it as a texting/email device.
While looking at the new T-Mobile phones, the HD2 really caught my eye. Large screen and it just looked good. I did not like the idea of still using Windows Mobile 6.5.
I looked into uansari1's suggestion at the Sprint EVO 4G. This is the phone I am going to get! The EVO 4G has the same hardware as the HD2 and the latest Android build! It's time for me to stop worrying about the qwerty keyboard and move on.
I am not under contract with T-Mobile so I'll be visiting Sprint soon and hopefully get a pre-order.
IgpI say go with the LG Ally. I can't exactly find how fast the professor is, but it is official that it will feature Live Wallpapers - so it can't be that bad. It runs Eclair (Android 2.1) and has a slide out QWERTY keyboard as you want. Oh wait, though, its coming to Verizon.. and you said you just switched from that.
Well, in that case definitely go with the Nexus.
Bigger screen than the Slide, faster processor, it is Google's phone, the developer support is high, it is easy to root - and I can type as fast as I could on my G1 with the HTC_IME keyboard (the keyboard that HTC Sense features, that can be installed on the Nexus). Really this was one of those duh questions, unless you really need a QWERTY keyboard, the choice is simply too obvious.
Though, if you like Espresso (the custom version of Sense that the Slide possess), you could easily root your device and install an HTC Desire ROM. It's not exactly like Espresso, it may be better, or equal to, to some.
Oh your going with the Evo, that's good. T-Mobile can't be an underdog, I wouldn't think an underdog would be the fourth largest carrier in the US. That's not first, second, or third, but fourth is not entirely horrible.

I think the biggest issue for the OP is the lack of 3G, which will limit his ability to enjoy his phone. If the N1 still goes to Sprint, he'll have that option as well if he goes with that carrier.

would att have 3g coverage ? the nexus one is available with att service. not that I'm promoting att... oh god.
if you love hardware keyboards, you'll miss it on the nexus one. i have.
i haven't personally seen the slide, so i can't comment on it's cpu speed... but if it's similar to the g1, i don't see it being a problem.
can't answer your exchange question either, i never touch the stuff.
I work at Tmo and have gotten to play with the Slide. I also own an N1 which between the 2 I prefer my nexus. I love the larger screen, longer battery life, and faster processor. the slide is a good phone and better than any android selection you can find at a Tmo store at the moment. The ui on the slide us very smooth and very impressive because the processor is not that much faster than a lot of the androids Tmo currently has.

Nice analogy! lol I do have to agree... I have to use wifi where I live, but I work in a 3g/HSPA/HSPA+ market... at home I feel like what I assume a junkie feels when they are in rehab and are forced to use smaller amounts of juice! I think the HSPA runs as fast as wifi and the plus is like ungodly faster than sprints "4G"... Nexus is HSPA and under, but no confirmation on H/H+

I am also trying to decide on the N1 or the MT3GS. Leaning toward the N1
Hi
Im stuck making this decision so ive decided to ask you guys
I atm have a hero. But im fed up of dodgey 2.1 roms, and playing 3d games like a slide show. I just want a fast android phone that will last me till the end of next summer!!
However being in the UK i can buy it from a friend brand new boxed (their on voda) for £400. Im just wondering is it realy worth it?
ATM this device is preety much the best smartphone out, and with constant android updates i dont think it will be left behind likemy hero anytime soon. But £400 is a LOT of money (im a student ).
Do you guys think it is worth it?
Thanks
Well I think its totally worth it. Think of it this way, the nexus is Google's phone. It's their developer device, the flagship. So hopefully it should have all the newest updates for the next year or so. Even though there are slightly higher end android devices coming, the nexus is still Google's "official" device.
Coming from a G1 running the latest roms, the nexus one was awesome upgrade.
Android needs a lot of ram and the 512mb built in the nexus is really great for speed.
I enjoy my phone more and more each day, it's well worth the price to have this superphone.
Getting froyo first is enough reason to pick up the nexus one

I'm from India (where no support for this device is available) and I'm a student too but I ordered mine... You're from UK where official support is available... so be happy... and this device is worth it... go for it..
Just traded my HD2 for the Nexus, and I'm not regretting it.
What I do miss about the HD2 is the big screen, better speaker, and fpsece
But I can live without those.
nexus has a brighter screen, future, more apps, makes up for it.
Seems faster and more responsive than the HD2 even though it has the same processor.

The Nexus One will put you ahead of the curve in the 21st century and beyond Go for it.
The question is this "Nexus One...or no Nexus One?" The answer is obvious...buy a Nexus One. You can do more **** with a Nexus One than without one. Consider the following option:
1. Have a bada$$ phone that uses an iPhone as toilet paper.
or
2. Have nothing.
I hope this provides you with enough insight into such a simple inquery.
this is coming from a mytouch3g former user, ill tell you what I like and don't like about the phone:
Like:
speed(in general basically, in games in processed when opening webpages, I find myself not using opera mini anymore because of the speed of the browser to render pagee, on my mt3g opera was my default browser)
screen (is big but not huge)
google support(this phone will get google support up its ass lol meaning new updates months before any android phone)
Not like:
terrible signal (I had amazing signal with the mt3g, with the n1 I get no signal at clubs or at the mall, its switches back and forth from 3g to edge, I've tried a lot of settings still womewhat buggy)
the screen(gosh is it annoying to type on this phone well wen I had just bought it if my palm or fingers were anywhere near the black edges of the screen it won't let me type it was such an annoyance, a tech support gave me a great idea which I was thinking of doing anyway 'a case might help', it really did help it adds thickness to the phone therefore ur palms or fingers never get on the black edges
my decision is quite difficult, I paid 300$ for the phone off the google site,so what I cud do is sell the phone for 400$ pay my 200$etf get an incredible or an evo4g off sprint but I got a hunch that 2.2 is gonna be all that so I would say wait a little bit like till the end of June is not that far and see what happens with froyo. .. gl: )

My contract is up and was wondering if its a wise decision to switch from my utterly delightful Nexus One to more powerful Samsung Captivate
I like the flexibility and freedom to play around on my Nexus One, but the Super AMOLED and Faster GPU has been calling me to Samsung Captivate.
All the 2 cents are welcome.
Cheers
it really depends on a few things:
can you survive without a trackball? if you do any remote desktop stuff, a trackball is almost essential. also some games work better with a trackball as opposed to your fat finger covering up most of the screen (including whatever you're trying to control).
do you currently not have a case on your n1? you'll def need one with the captivate (or any galaxy s phone), as they aren't built like the n1. they don't have a unibody design that resists overall damage to the phone. if you get a galaxy s device, i highly recommend getting a hard case for it.
can you live with not always having the latest and greatest developments on your device?being that the nexus is now the second google developer phone, you can almost guarantee that it'll have everything FIRST. any developing directly from google or the other XDA devs will most likely be implemented on the nexus before any other phone.
just a few things to consider. i'm sure someone will add some more...
you could also think of it this way: would you be willing to trade in your honda civic tuner (with nos, supercharger, and the works) for a mustang/camaro or equivalent?
I've actually seriously considered this (but for the Vibrant) and come to the conclusion that you will not be disappointed by either choice. One thing you could do is post a similar question in the Captivate forums but ask what people opinion of the captivate is from previous nexus one users.
On the note of the AMOLED screen and the gpu its a matter of importance? Do you play a lot of games? If so the gpu will definitely be a necessity. If you watch a lot of media the screen will be a must.
Do you mod/plan to mod your phone a lot? If so then the Nexus might still be the better choice.
Also the trackball is gone so there is no led notifications on the Galaxy S phones.
-Cheers

Well I havent had an opportunity/requirements to do any Remote Desktops so havent used trackball to its full potential.. but I love the trackball notifications.
I do have a hard case and a lovely one for my N1 [Seidio]. Yes I would ofcourse get a hard case for any phone that I buy.
Third point is really important. I am a CM source builder.. and I do that almost every 2 days from my laptop. I would hate to not be able to do that to the Captivate..
Choices Choices.. Cant pick one..

Hi
I had the UK version the Galaxy s and I have to say I was very disappointed. The lag problem is a massive issue after owning the Nexus and the Touchwiz is very cartoon like but that's a matter of opinion, and if you try and use Launcher Pro it starts to slow down even more. The gps another known issue does not work and the internet is slow. The screen is fab and so is the HD video but that's it. The build is poor and as for regular updates from Samsung ? well you know there history.
I always said that I would not have a Samsung for one reason or another but this looked great, but I'm bitterly disappointed and with Handsets like this coming out, it's going to put new owners of Android off.
So I have sent mine back and got a new Nexus as my daughter had my other and she prefers it to her IPhone 3GS........Good girl
Sorry if I ranted on.......

The question is posted on Captivate forums.. awaiting feedback.
Yes, I love playing games, I play HomeRunBattle 3D, and Asphalt5 mostly. HrB 3D is still manageable, but Asphalt 5 is a power hungry beast that brings the Nexus to its knees...
But alas.. I am an android developer and I love the mods and and trying out stuff..
Questions.. Questions... (TODO or NOT TODO ) !!

If u love to flash and tweak, then the N1 will do the trick
Exactly. Its harder to tweak the galaxy series. I love my n1, but have been drooling over the captivate.
Gingerbread is just around the corner, and there will be a whole new wave of devices out that blow the SGS away. I see the Galaxy S as more of a side-grade, I'm afraid.
Don't you lose "unlimited" data if you upgrade your contract with ATT?
i think you can keep your unlimited data if you were grandfathered in.
anyway if you get the captivate you should flash stock android on it immediately. i played with a captivate 2 days ago, and it was actually not as smooth as the nexus running launcher pro. plus i hated the UI samsung put on there. the nexus is just so open and easy to tweak, i'd be a hard decision. plus have you seen the Desire HD yesterday? so many phoens are around the corner. i wont be tempted until something really blows away the nexus, like dual core CPU. the galaxy is still too close to matching the nexus specs, 1ghz, 512mb, etc.
you could save your upgrade. or use it on an iphone 4 and sell that thing for like 600 bucks profit.

So do I sell my IPhone Contract too..? I am not sure how selling of iPhone works.
I also looked at the Galaxy S series (although the Vibrant not the Captivate) but I prefer the trackball for being able to precisely edit text. I think that Gingerbread will make a world of difference and the N1will of course get it first... Samsung has a horrible history of updates and on a more personal level Touchwiz looks like a cartoon and I hate it. I LOVE stock (vanilla) android. Just my humble opinion.
One thing to highly consider is that the hummingbird processor is not as fast as ours in the n1 it may run at 1ghz but it doesn't process as fast, my wife has a vibrant and I've run several benchmarks on both devices and the n1 blows the vibrant away every single time.

yeah i was just gonna say
The hummingbird 1ghz wrecks the snapdragon 1ghz (sadly) but the reason currently the n1 is winning is because of Froyo and the JIT. Just look at the quadrant scores pre-froyo
I took my Vibrant back for the fact that...
I missed the Track Ball.
I missed the sturdy, heavy build of the Nexus, the Vibrant is very cheap and plastic feeling.
I missed the Flash on the camera.
I just over all hope that a phone similar to the Nexus but with a larger screen is developed..

No you just sell the iPhone itself. You can remove the iPhone off your account anytime you want, even the day after you sign the new contract. All ATT cares about is that you pay your bill every month and fulfill your 2 years. So you can take the iPhone data plan off your account immediately.
It's an option to consider. Some people do it but if you aren't comfortable then don't worry about it.

Your joking right ? The only benchmark the n1 wins in is linpack . Cause of jit... quadrant we get 2200 with a hack without jit vs 1300 or so on n1? The sgs wins in almost every benchmark ..... the gpu totally smashes the n1... I've had both, n1 is a Tad faster feeling due to stock android ..... and jit ...
Gps works fine on my vibrant ...
N1 is awesome , but sgs wins hands down... especially soon with all 4 carriers having it... it'll have plenty mods.
Oh and it does not feel cheap ... not as sturdy as the n1 but n1 is heavier and will fall harder... also it comes with a extra cover for the back.. just awesome..
I love my n1, but my vibrant eats it alive.. especially in gpu .
I have both an and a captivate. N1 build quality is superb. N1 customization is awesome. Awesome dev support. Guaranteed firmeware support unlike samsung. You never know when samsung will stop upgrading. No guarantee they will get gingerbread neither. But n1 is getting outdated. But still my everyday phone.
However, captivate is a great device. Great samoled screen. Built quality is okay. Not as quality as n1. Very plasticee. At least captivate has the metal plate on the back to look cool. Vibrant all plastic. Not doggy the iphony lol. Sure this will get outdated soon but all devices will. It will matter whether u want the device now. You wait for the next device another one comes out. That's technology. There are mods on this device built by xda devs already. Already out putting crazy benchmark numbers. But not as smoothas the n1 on custom froyo. However cyanogen mod is in the works. They will be support by not comparable to n1. So far i like both device. Sure track ball and froyo is nice. But having the capability to play and watch games and movies with hd quality nice too. So i wouldn't completely cross out captivate or galaxy s. I just wish i had the euro version though. They seem to have more devs working on it. Captivate and vibrabrant dev is little slower then galaxy s. But can't beat a $100 for a fine piece of technology.
Oh btw, i upgraded both of my parents line with iphone 4 and sold those suckers for 600 bucks per pop. Save that money to buy something else when something better comes out. Perhaps nexus two. Lol. Or maybe the Htc desire hd/ace. I hope they release the quad band gsm version. Prob euros will be out late this year, hope i can't import a asian quad band or aussie quad band version.

I've been toying with the idea of buying a Nexus One for some time now, I'm no stranger to Android, having owned a Droid 2, Droid Incredible, and now a Samsung Captivate that I use with work. I currently also have an iPhone 4 as my personal phone, and I was just given an HTC Surround and Samsung Focus to replace the Captivate with, so I have to decide which I like more. I love Android, I've always been more drawn to it than my iOS devices, although I do love my iPhone. Now that the Nexus One has been out for a year and has its "successor" (depending on who you ask), is it a good buy still? I'm tired of waiting for AT&T to come out with something new that's a real killer phone, I've been hearing whispers of the HTC Desire HD being in testing, and the Moto Olympus being announced at CES. I'd get a Nexus S if I had T-Mobile and it had a microSD slot, but other than a larger screen and NFC capability, I don't see any real upgrade the S brings. What does everyone think, if I get this Nexus One is it a great buy and I'll enjoy it for awhile, or should I save my money and just wait longer?
PS, I know I own too many phones I can't help it! 3 phone lines will do that to ya
I barely got my nexus one so I would give you my own personal feedback.
Cons:
1.battery is some what horrible under medium to heavy use you can always tweak the phone to make last longer but sometimes is a pain in the butt.
2. 512mb of storage is a step back having to always watch what you installed, once again you can tweak it and make it less of an issue.
3. touch screen feedback is not the best like other phones that are out there. also having some multitouch issues on all models but I hardly notice the issue.
4. My personal issue not having a call and end keys is a pain but that just me been picky.
5. another personal opinion camera its not the greatest in my opinion.
Pros:
1. I got the phone for 295 under no contract that's a awesome deal I think.
2. will get gingerbread soon.
3. Having stock android makes things so much better I could of bought many android phones but the lack of updates made think twice of spending 300 plus.
4 this is a big one for me having to tether and having hotspot internet without rooting makes me so happy.
5. Adobe flash I love having flash for the same reason I didn't buy the nokia n8.
I know for a fact next year will be a big year for android if you wanna wait.
I have my nexus a year now, bought it when it just came out. I can agree with josemedina1983. Nexus is mine longest phone because it never got bored, there is always something new to find out, and google bringing the always the new android version makes the N1 up to date. All the new HTC phones are almost like the Nexus, some have more space to install apps on but that's it.
The only thing that bothers me a bit is the touch screen, it works great with apps but soon as you want to play games that require multi touch it's a nightmare.
I like mine N1 it has a great design works great love the trackball (miss it on new models) the dock station is great. i think i wil keep using mine N1 till something really great comes (didn't find a phone to replace it). I don't like the looks of the Nexus s it really feels cheap.
I think N1 is still a good it has it's flaws specially if you want to play games on it.
I've had my N1 for a few months, here's my take:
OS: Froyo with eventual Gingerbread
- Huge community support on the current OS with 'in-view' plans for OTA update to latest OS.
- Lots and lots of ROMs for this puppy, you can hack this baby four ways from Friday.
- Rumors that Gingerbread on latest Nexus S still a little green - will hopefully be ripe when it gets to N1
Phone cons:
- POS multitouch support (doesn't mean it's not responsive to single thumb touch).
- only 512MB of internal memory (but you can root and get Apps2SD to make up for that) [on a side note, isn't 16GB of internal memory on the Nexus S enough!?!]
- Bad design on the power button, will most likely fail after a few months if the design hasn't been fixed (see link in my signature)
- No Gyroscope - but it's not like you don't have other phones to play games on
- No NFC - but how soon are people going to start using that anways?
Phone Pros:
- Been around for a while, huge support community (XDA FTW!).
- Lots of hacks and tweaks for the phone as well.
- Anything wrong with the phone has already been discovered.
- Lots of developers have it, but you don't see it out in the wild that much (unique 'special' factor).
- Still a high end processor for the next few months until the Tegra 2s come out.
- Probably get it cheaper now that the Nexus S is out.
If you can get it cheap without a contract then sure its still a good phone.
But I would not pay full price for it or go on a contract in order to get it at this point.
Its not a bad phone at all but the phone market moves soooo fast its blinding.
I'll be keeping mine another year and then getting whatever is newest once my contract is up.
All really good advice, I feel like I'm still getting a phone that's relevant in today's market, but at the same time I know that something else is going to come soon and just put it to shame. I would like to know what's wrong with the N1's multitouch, is it just unresponsive or does it really not work? It's taken me quite some time to track down one that's sub $500 with the AT&T 3G bands, so I'm weighing the options very carefully here. After playing around with the Nexus S for some time a few days ago, I personally didn't find anything on Gingerbread that really stood out to me from Froyo, and I have it running on my Incredible now. It would be really nice to get something that was completely free of any carrier or manufactor influence as far as updates go, and easily hacking other roms onto this thing seems to be really easy. The power button issue I've heard about from other people, but some say it's not too hard to fix, so that isn't too bad for me. Decisions, decisions.
Just get the S
If you own another android phone and still using it i dont see the point of buying another one especially having the incredible its a damn good phone I think the incredible,evo,nexus,hd2,droid x,g2 are the classic android phones of 2010. I would wait alittle bit and stack up those 300 for the next phone. I feel next year windows 7 nokias meego and android tablets i love having alot of OS options.

I have had my Nexus One 6 months and think it is a great phone. IMO one of the best looking phones made. I also have a Desire as my main phone and have used the Nexus to learn about rooting and custom roms. Its copped a hammering from experimenting but it has always come back to life. Google is defiantly your friend here LOL. If you have the spare $ and not to concerned with whats around the corner with the next gen Android its a good buy. But maybe that its 12 months since release a more current phone may be better. Try Nexus S. When it arrives in Australia I surely will get one. Good luck with your decision.
Steve.
It's a good phone, but I wouldn't buy it now after a year it came out, unless you get it really cheap. With CES happening right now, you should definitely wait and see.
If I need to recommend a phone I would still recommend the N1 provided its cheaper than the NS
Definitely a phone worth getting, more ROMS then you'll ever know what to do with. I've been back and forth between MIUI, cyanogen and enomthers ROMS and have never been.disappointed. battery life is amazing with these ROMS. My nexus at 1.113 Ghz outperformed my friends droid X at 1.465 Ghz and his rooted Evo

Its not the best but the biggest problem I have is axis flipping and the snapping to match the axis of the other finger (Don't know what that's called officially). It's not the best video and neither of these problems really bother me in day to day use. I vote it's a great phone to own and will be for a few years yet. As for the power button i've had mine since last march and still no issues.
I still think you should wait the nexus one AT&T version are pretty rare and they still go for around 50 + bucks, more than the t-mo version.
Comes this february then I officially own a phone that lasts for a year. Lol I used to change phones a lot. I just tried to find the perfect one for me. pam there it is

Amazon.com deal on N1 too good to be true?
Been a long time follower of this forum but only just registered.
Looking to buy a Nexus one. It's going at $298 on Amazon from one of their eSellers. It is listed as new but most of the feedback on this seller refers to refurbished products - and sometimes when the buyer was expecting a new one. So I am really sceptical though it is very tempting to be able to get the phone for <$300.
Anyone here Ble to advise? Any better ideas on where I could look?
There are a lot of killer phones out there but....I like having one of the only phones that has Gingerbread without rooting (2.3.4). Exclusivity; I haven't seen one in the wild. Hotspot and tehering without rooting. Vanilla Android. While the touchscreen is buggy at times, I love my N1. I have had it for a year and never regretted my purchase. This is one of the phones that will be remembered for quite sometime IMO. A classic, as it were.
