[Q] latest "stable" ClockworkMod recovery version? - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Pardon my noobiness... I am trying to find where to download the latest CWM version for a heroc and more importantly a matrix showing the latest stable releases by phone model. I have downloaded the latest CM6/CM7 and gapps builds and they have nice matrices showing which latest version is recommended for each phone, but nothing for CWM.
I have ROM Manager installed to the phone, and 2.5.0.7 is shown as my current recovery. When I look at the "older/experimental" list, I see 2.5.1.1, 2.5.1.3, 2.5.1.4 are available for flashing. Not sure if these are experimental or if ROM Mgr just doesn't upgrade to newer version of CWM automatically.
Also, I have found the instructions for getting v3.0.0.5 (or newer) installed by fooling ROM Mgr to think it's one of the above "other" versions. I have seen posts that CM7 requires version CWM v3.x and plenty of people running v3.0.0.5 or newer on their cdma Hero's but the xda "official" instructions for rooting/etc show 2.5.0.7 as the latest release (instructions were written some time ago, not sure if the ver# for CWM is up to date).
what am I missing? or am I just being too careful?

CM7 doesn't require CWM 3.0.x, actually.

good to know. Any clarification on CWM versions and compatibility with Hero or any benefit of using a particular one?

I'm using 3.0.2.4, found here

the 2.xxx versions of cwm will flash both amend script (old) and edify script (new). The 3.xxx versions are the newest and therefore "best", but they only flash edify, so depending on what script your zips have, some may not flash. Try them all out, pick your favorite, like ROMs, also, here's some kindof related info in another recovery thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12467895&postcount=4

il Duce, thanks for the explanation - provided the clarification I was looking for. I'm just a casual modder because I hated HTC Sense (the slowness mostly) and needed a phone that was usable, so until I buy my big boy hacker pants, I'll stick with CWM 2.5.x.x since it will flash CM7 and still work with the older scripts.

From what I've been reading, the 2.x.x.x versions are "official" and all 3.x.x.x versions are unoffical custom-made versions. That's why the app doesn't come with the orange colored 3.x versions.

This. The 3.x versions I've posted are unofficial and built from the latest CyanogenMod source. The latest official release from Koush is 2.5.0.7.

question on CM Updater

so i had just rooted my g1 using the old method here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=553416
is it possible to install the cm updater on that setup, and download the latest cm rom with the updater and have it flash it for me?
also, does the cm rom use the newer or older app store?
tia... im new to linux and android, wm for 5 years and its quite a bit differant
Im a noob so I can't answer your first q but My CM 4.2.8 has Market version 1620.
well according to a guy in the comments section
http://androidandme.com/2009/12/news/new-android-market-is-carrier-specific/
the update is also being pushed to rooted roms. I might have not gotten it yet because I don't have data (I use wifi)
also, you aren't notified of the update but you can uninstall it by going into the settings->apps->market->uninstall updates

then after that its just download the newer cm roms and have it flash it for you and yes it does use the newer market

Rogers Phones and Themes

Hey guys so ive got one of the Rogers dream phones,.I was wondering if it is possible to flash one of the themes (meteamorph)? The reason I ask is that these phones are EBI1 not EBI0 like the tmobile ones.
Being ebi1 makes it so that not everything is compatible, an example of this is the cyanogen rom, it is not compatible with out a special kernel for our phones.
Once again, are the metamorphosis themes compatible with our ebi1 phones?
I am in the exact same boat lol my provider is fido and I use the latest cyanogen on my rooted ebi1 rogers dream I jus thought that this was a funny coincidence oh and obviously I'm in canada ps . I reall would like it if brian the god who makes our cyanogen port files, ported the 10mb ram hack
Themes are all good. I've used the ones from the cm updater with no issues. I also tried some meteamorphs a while ago with no issues. I think there is an issue with meteamorph on the latest cyanogen thoe. not 100% sure
To the first poster, yeah that would be great because we can't get dwangs fast rom on ebi1. Do you know if anyone has asked him to port it?

Where can I get cm updater from? I didn't find it on the market. And am I correct in thinking that the cm updater does more than just update cyanogen roms?
EDIT ive found it and see that it can update the cm aswell as use themes. I still need an answer to my post after this one.
I am wondering if it is safe to use cm updater to update our phones because we require the special kernal to use cm. Do we need to apply a kernal everytime, does it do it for us, or do we do it ourselves. (This is regarding updating the cm itself not the theme)
Hey guys, so I am still waiting for a response regarding my above post but in addition I would like to say that I now have a theme using cm updater. I downloased the first one in the recommened list. I was wondering what the difference between advance and regular launcher. There where two options for this theme one with regular other with advanced. I chose regular because I don't know what a lanucher is.
i have heard that people have asked him but he hasnet responded with a definitive answer

You just need to add the bcrook Kernel as a theme. Follow the directions in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=592377
To Update:
1. Themes > Menu > Check Now
2. Select the newest bc-ebi1 file from the theme section
3. Click on it and download it, choose Apply Later when finished.
4. Download the newest Cyanogen ROM from the ROM section. Choose Apply Now.
This will reboot to recovery and flash the newest cyanogenmod. Then apply the previously downloaded port file.
Enjoy!
Thanks for the link andanswer, that will come in handy.
Another question I have is what's the difference between advanced and regular launcher?
You can look at the thread for advanced laucher and see the differences. Folders, change the number of home screens and more.
hmm i have a rogers dream and ive never had problems with themes, cm updater or anything. also ive never had to install any "special" kernel for any rom ive put on my phone.
im pretty sure i used the "rogers one touch root" guide in the dev forum when i originally rooted my phone.
is there a difference between the old and new rogers dreams? or are all this ebi1??
I use the enoch theme and it works great and looks even better. I think that most roms don't touch the kernel so they should be fine.

There is a difference but it isn't with the radio (ebi1 vs ebi0) its with the spl. It just requires the one click root to get around. You must have used haykuro's method to root which switches your radio to EBI0 making it compatible with any rom for the G1.

ahh makes sense, i used haykuro's method. thanks for the clarification.
hey i am using the binary something theme. When on the old Cyanogen rom it had the same theme but with the lockscreen, when updating to the latest CM rom i dont see the lock screen version anymore. (i am using CM updater)
Ok so I am now using the enoch theme, I like the blue accent and the transparent design to show more background. One thing that I miss is the lock screen, CM updater doesn't show any option for installing a enoch lockscreen. Is there any way to get a lockscreen? Also can I use any lockscreen even if it is not enoch? (Cm updater shows no lockscreens anyway)
Does the latest CM rom 12.2 not support any lockscreens yet? Or do I just need to add more sorces for themes in cm updater? If so could someone guide me into doing that.
could someone please answer as to can I use any lockscreen? and how can i get this done with cm updater?

Stock CDMA Hero w/ Root

I am looking for the 2.1 sprint stock hero rom that has been rooted and can be flashed via recovery menu. I normally don't ask questions, i've looked but can't find. Link would help very much.
Thanks
I've been looking for the same, or roms based of the official release at least.
So far it looks like DamageControl 2.09 is the only one. The rest are based off of the signed leak.
Here is the version based off the last leak (it's in the first post, second download link) : http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc-hero-roms-hacks/9522-sprint-2-1-leak.html
Damage might be the closest ROM based off the Final Sprint release (Fresh has the removed apks for download @geekfor.me if you need them).
this the one created by damage

[Q] What ROM do I have?

I bought a slightly used Nexus One, the guy said it's rooted, well I am new to Android, just trashed my iPhone.
Anyways my OS seems slow at times, I have Froyo on it FRF91, but I think that it's a rather instable custom ROM how do I know if it's the original Google ROM?
I rather have the original Google ROM also because I like my phone to be able to get OTA updates.
If this is a Custom ROM, how do I get the OEM ROM back on my Nexus One?
Thank you all
If you go to About Phone in the settings menu it will normally have an abnormal name in the Kernel Version. What does yours say?

Even better, download and install any one of many screenshot apps. Take a screenshot of your About screen, and post it here?!
DroCap2 is my fave.
Tried drocap2 it didn't safe the screenshots where it said it did my kernel is:

You have an old version of Enomther's TheOfficial ROM (which is an excellent ROM, I happen to use it).
Flash its latest version (thread in Development section), and if the launcher (desktop) speed is what's bothering you - install LauncherPro. This ROM is probably one of the most stable custom ROMs out there, if not the most stable of them.

I love Enomther's roms and would highly recommend you to upgrade to the newest version.
Glad to hear it's a good ROM it's not often but sometimes when closing an app it takes about 30 seconds till i can do anything else.
How do I upgrade to the newest ROM? I went to the webiste of Enomther and it says something about Radio update also I like the stock theme will that stay on my phone?
1) It's definitely not a ROM problem. When installing his new ROM, wipe EVERYTHING - data and cache, and install apps one by one until you find the offender.
2) Flash his non-themed version and you'll get a stock look.
3) Check your baseband version in the same place you've checked kernel. If it says *U_4.06* or *U_5.08* then you don't need to flash the radio, if not - go to Nexus Wiki / Radios and look there.
Thanks a lot I will try it today.
Just did the update also installed the HTC 720p camera update.
Now it says:
Baseband version: 5.08.00.04
Kernel Version: [email protected] #1
Build number: FRF91
is that the right thing?
Thank you so much for all the hints.
Yes, you have the latest. See if the newer radio works well for you, and if it doesn't - try flashing the 4.06 version.

[Q] 2.2 Roms in a nutshell

Ok, i've been absent from the forums for some time and have been trying to play catch up... If someone who has been keeping up would just help me get a few things straight it would be awesome.
please just put the number and if its correct or the answer or w.e.
What I think I know:
1. CyanogenMod- Established dev who releases nightly updates (CM6?) to his tweaked build of rooted mostly ASOP 2.2, which recently (thanks to a new kernal?) began working on our CDMA Hero’s.
2. Most 2.2 ROMs are based off of one of the CM6 nightlies, then customized with themes and tweaks
3. “CyanogenMod-6 for Hero CDMA - V6.0.0 (09/18/2010)” is one of these, and has been tweaked minimally, and is considered a stable build as far as CM6 goes
4. “FroYo 2.2 – CM6- Vanilla” is basically same as above, just complied from a differently “nightly”, while “Extremely Blue” and “BlackMod” are the same, just themed
5. The main (only?) NON–CM6 based options for 2.2 are…
a. asopMod v.03m = which is a very ASOP build, includes OC
b. NFX-Hero 2.2.1.update1 = slimed down ASOP, includes OC and JIT option
Questions:
6. If I want the CM6 nightly updates, is there an updater app in any of these ROMS’s, like in Fresh Hero 2.4 (what I’m used to), or do I have to pull an update.zip from somewhere (or something)?
7. Do some phones work with JIT enabled, and others don’t? and if so is there a way to tell without just trying
8. If I'm set on 2.2 should I check out any other ROMs than those I mentioned
9. Is there a standout (stable) kernal right now?
Just want to say:
NFX-Hero 2.2.1 is just the version number. It is still based on HTC Sense 2.1.
There is currently no Sense 2.2 port for the Hero.
As for the stable kernel, I've heard good things about this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=756774
specifically [email protected] 09/14/2010, people refer to it as "#14 kernel"

Cyan is the almighty grand pubba of AOSP and was one of there first to release roms in the mainer we see them now. He does not do everything and all roms as he has allot of help from other devs, for us its Darch who maintains the Heroc version of cyanogen (sorry if I forgot some of you other devs)
2. Most 2.2 ROMs are based off of one of the CM6 nightlies, then customized with themes and tweaks
All of the roms you see for the heros here that are AOSP based com from darch's and then cyans repo period, nightlies are built roms while we theme built roms roms deving is done from source and can be taken from different time and snap shots so nightly means nothing then.
3. “CyanogenMod-6 for Hero CDMA - V6.0.0 (09/18/2010)” is one of these, and has been tweaked minimally, and is considered a stable build as far as CM6 goes
The stable build of cm6.0 is from the combined deving of cyan, darch and alot of other people to bring the best of wheat works and leave out what doesn't. Nightlies usually are adding what seems to work but is not always guarenteed
4. “FroYo 2.2 – CM6- Vanilla” is basically same as above, just complied from a differently “nightly”, while “Extremely Blue” and “BlackMod” are the same, just themed
Black mod is a theme, extreme blue is a themed rom compiled from cyan/drach's source vinilla is a terms used to describe a stock rom which is what cm6.00 stable and anyhting else that comes from the repo.
5. The main (only?) NON–CM6 based options for 2.2 are…
a. asopMod v.03m = which is a very ASOP build, includes OC
b. NFX-Hero 2.2.1.update1 = slimed down ASOP, includes OC and JIT option
I'll go ape **** on this but asopMod v.03m is from cyan's source ino at first he tried to make it seem like he compiled from AOSP source but the fact is he uses cyans like almost everone else and if you check his thread now he given the props the the cyan team as he should have at first.... NFX-her is a sense based rom from android 2.1

6. If I want the CM6 nightly updates, is there an updater app in any of these ROMS’s, like in Fresh Hero 2.4 (what I’m used to), or do I have to pull an update.zip from somewhere (or something)?
Not yet but that would be nice nightlies are not considered stable and there for i dont think theyll be added to an updater like cm updater or fresh updater but when we start seeing more stable builds you'll see the updater used, cm updater is on cm6 right now just nothing to update
7. Do some phones work with JIT enabled, and others don’t? and if so is there a way to tell without just trying
All phones should work with JIT (Just in Time) dalvik compiler, whether they run betters is a different story but I have never had issues
8. If I'm set on 2.2 should I check out any other ROMs than those I mentioned
For sense I like fresh as he seems to be the best sense dev (imo) around here for AOSP you go with the grand master Cyan and his cm6 (for the hero) there are some other devs out there that make roms for other phones but most of them still use Cyan's repo.
9. Is there a standout (stable) kernal right now?
Yes Decadence

if anyones see's an error in what i posted please correct me.
Any froyo rom is going to be based off of CM6. The nightlies are built every night from any changes made that day. They are considered beta, however most will find no issues at all. If you flash CM6 the Jit setting is a quick change and will not screw up the phone. You just go into setting>cyanogenmod setttings>performance settings and check or uncheck jit and reboot. There is a ROM Manager app in CM6, but you have to install clockwork recovery so I am not sure what will show up in the ROMs option or what else it does because I do not want to install clockworks. As mentioned a lot are using #14.

not a lot shows up in the downloads section for rom manager on the hero. there's 4 selections, and none of them include cm6. it's mostly useless in my experience.
hopefully they update the downloads list soon.

rom manager could use some work to make it a bit more useful. i like it for queuing up roms to flash and making things a bit more automated, however i'm not sure it clears the dalvik cache when it does its thing so i generally have to do it myself anyways.
i'll have to check out fresh updater. i have cm updater, installed from the market, does it actually come with cm6 now? i never saw it when i flashed the 9/18 and already had it installed when i clean flashed the latest nightlies.

Well fresh updater is pretty much the same as cm updater but its only for fresh roms. cm updater might not be part of cm6 I can't, it probably isnt. I actually would like it to be as with cm5 and below it also had themes in it. hopefully itll come back when theres more cm6 stables.
Thanks all. Didn't want to jump into 2.2 without knowing what I was getting into. I decided to start with CM6.0.0, and so far its been great. As mush as I love all things Freshh, I'm mad I waited this long. I DO miss the Senses dialer (minus the ungodly lag) and I havent made up my mind on the keyboard, but the overall speediness is killer.
Hell yea froyo/ CM.
