I'm coming from WinMo/WP7 to android, and I'm very happy with my purchase of SGS I9000. However there is something that kinda bothers me,
I've tried the stock ROM, Darky's, Ultimate, and a few others, and the annoying thing (for me) is the blue theme and feel of the messaging (SMS) client which is there in almost every SGS' ROM.
I prefer to have the original (plain black) theme of android's messaging client, as I don't really like the black-blue theme of SGS.
Is there any way that i can get the original android's skin back?
(Currently Im using the Darky's 9.5 ROM if its important.)
Many thanks
I think the default AOSP android SMS has a white background, certainly that's what you get in CM7. The MIUI ROM has many different themes but that changes the whole look and feel of android. AFAIK only the stock Samsung SMS has the black screen.

Hey everyone, I am in no way a programmer so I was curious
if someone could possibly help me out with a request I have.
Thanks in advanced for any feedback or ideas on how to
accomplish this or potentially making this happen for me...
I know that with the newer CyanogenMod Eclair and Froyo roms
that there is an option to change the font size on the stock
messaging app. I am still on Donut cyanogenmod 4.2.15.1 and
unfortunately this option isn't yet implemented. Is there anyway
to have someone mod this apk to make the option available?
I have flashed the newer roms but always end up back on 4.2.15.1
because of stability and speed. Everytime I go back, I always long
for the font size option..
I know that there are other messaging apps that I can use like Handcent
and Chomp that gives this option but there again, I sacrifice speed and
ram when doing this. So here I stand with this request...
Do you think this is possible?
I am even down with someone changing the font to 10 or something
smaller than the default and not having the options available as well...
Let me know folks.
Thanks to everyone in this forum, you guys are freaking fantastic
and very talented! Never going back to a stock rom ever again!
What I am after is a messaging app that has these two features.
1) That SMS messages are NOT converted to MMS messages when they get too long.
2) That the time when the SMS was SENT is displayed next to it rather than the time it was received.
I've been using ChompSMS for a while which fixes the first problem but the app itself seems to be prone to slow downs and feels generally more sluggish than stock. Ideally if there is a modded version of the stock messaging app that addresses both these issues would be best. I'm not fussed about changeable themes etc
Ders a Mod for it.
Jus search around.
Is it a mod of the stock app? I had a look earlier but couldn't find anything and now search is down

Is there any way that I can go back to the look of Messaging from Android 2.2.2?
I've just moved into my Note (running ICS 4.0.3) from my trusty old Dell Streak, and am very disappointed to find that messaging uses the common speech bubble layout, which I hate. 2.2.2. on the Dell presented messages in a black and white text format, one message underneath the next, and I'm extremely keen to get this back on the Note.
Is there any way I can either tweak Messaging 4.0.3 to look like 2.2.2, or else can anyone recommend a messaging app that doesn't use left/right side speech bubble/boxes but presents messages in - dare I say it, at the risk of sounding arrogant - a more adult way?
Thanks.
That isn't the ICS messaging app, it's Samsung's skin. There are a few different messaging apps such as GO SMS but I've never used any.
Many thanks.
I've installed Handcent and I think I may indeed be able to tweak it to my liking. Under a "Bubble settings/conversation style" you can choose "Android", which is very close to what I'm used to.
Problem solved - I think!
Good to hear you solved the problem. The beauty of Android, if you don't like something change it!
Hello, I would like to know, is it possible to keep a stock rom, and have the same keyboard as Cm 9? Don't know if it's the same as the normal ICS one. I use the ICS keayboard app from Google Play, it's really good, keyboard is the same, but I liked the way it underlined the wrong words in red, a bit like Microsoft Word!
And also, is it possible to have the same type of sms app? With the pictures of our friend always shown for new sms's and not just bubbles.

For your first issue. You wont get it to underline in red, because that is handled by the SMS app, not the keyboard. and why are you on XDA and using GB anyway?
So, this can't be done with a stock rom?
I'm on XDA because I used to have a Custom rom, CM9 then, Remics. But I use Tango quite often and apparently this app doesn't work with roms so this was kind of a deal-breaker. Moreover, tha camera app and the browsing experience was better with the stock rom, easier to watch Flash videos on my phone
My N7000 was becoming unusably slow so on a recommendation elsewhere, I installed CM. I was quite surprised at how basic some of the apps are & now have some specific issues.
I have lost the ability to scale text size in both messaging & email apps. Text size can be altered globally but making it big enough to read without glasses in text messages makes it unusable in general use. I've found an alternative messaging app but not email.
Colours in the calendar app are all rendered so dark as to be indistinguishable from each other. I can't find any options to change this like there was in the stock ROM.
So my question is can I somehow install the Samsung versions of these apps or do I have to trawl the Play store looking for alternatives? Or better still, is there a ROM that retains these features?
Hopefully this won't fall foul of the Best ROM rule!
For email I recommend k9.

Dunke.
Just installed it & in the process discovered that it supports pinch zooming. Never occurred to me to try the default mail app & that does too! But for some reason the messaging app doesn't but I've installed Big Text SMS that both gives me large text & TTS.
That's because cyanogen mod is based on AOSP and most apps do not have any value add or customizations to allow for what you need.

Still searching for a solution to the calendar colour issues. Changing the colour of a calendar on the device workd for milliseconds before it reverts to the very dark, indistinguishable colours. I really don't want to have to duplicate every app on the phone with one that works.
I'm also getting really annoying Mobile Broadcast messages every few minutes telling me which cell I'm connected to & can't find anywhere to switch them off. The N7000 section of Cyanogen's own forum seems to be a ghost town so no point posting there.
Edit
Now found the Cyanogen thread for the Note so will try there.
