What I am after is a messaging app that has these two features.
1) That SMS messages are NOT converted to MMS messages when they get too long.
2) That the time when the SMS was SENT is displayed next to it rather than the time it was received.
I've been using ChompSMS for a while which fixes the first problem but the app itself seems to be prone to slow downs and feels generally more sluggish than stock. Ideally if there is a modded version of the stock messaging app that addresses both these issues would be best. I'm not fussed about changeable themes etc
Ders a Mod for it.
Jus search around.
Is it a mod of the stock app? I had a look earlier but couldn't find anything and now search is down

I'm coming from WinMo/WP7 to android, and I'm very happy with my purchase of SGS I9000. However there is something that kinda bothers me,
I've tried the stock ROM, Darky's, Ultimate, and a few others, and the annoying thing (for me) is the blue theme and feel of the messaging (SMS) client which is there in almost every SGS' ROM.
I prefer to have the original (plain black) theme of android's messaging client, as I don't really like the black-blue theme of SGS.
Is there any way that i can get the original android's skin back?
(Currently Im using the Darky's 9.5 ROM if its important.)
Many thanks
I think the default AOSP android SMS has a white background, certainly that's what you get in CM7. The MIUI ROM has many different themes but that changes the whole look and feel of android. AFAIK only the stock Samsung SMS has the black screen.

I am using JW4. It is nice but with lots of lags at times. Sometimes its frustrating really.
But integration of Facebook and twitter to my calendar is very handy to check on birthdays.
Is this function available on Any ICS or even Stock Custom rom ? I want to change.
Thanks .

Twitter has no problems syncing on ICS. Facebook is having issues, that can be solved easily by installing "Facebook Sync", free on Play Store. Some ICS roms has facebook sync working perfectly, those who don't - that app will solve it.
Try to flash using Team ICSSGS' ROM or even Slim ICS. Facebook Sync with Calendar seems fine. I have tried them both. Give it a shot.
Thanks a lot guys !

I'm rocking CM9 alpha nightly, it's very stable and the batterly life is awesome aswell. I would recommend it as a daily rom, even thought it is a bit unpolished(very early in developement)
Hi !
I was using CM9 myself and thought that finally I have a damn good ICS rom !
On my 5th day issues started.
When I would get a call the answer button would not activate and would shift here and there without receiving the call. I thought it was an isolated incidence and let it go. Happened again, twice.( irritating CM 9 issue cause my call was very important and.....embarrassing in front of others ! )
Sorry, but the contact pics always` pricked ` my eyes though Google is to blame for it. Its very ugly and smudgy. ( nothing about CM9 )
I discovered that I had lots of duplicate contacts and unwanted contacts which I wanted to delete and a group remove function was missing. (not a CM9 issue )
Lastly, I received a phonecall and was asked to write down a phone number which I did but a digit was wrong and then when I tried to delete that digit, I discovered there was no Back button on the dialer !
A bug ? ( big time CM9 issue ! )
Back to XXJW4 until ICS XXLPH is ready. I will wait for it.
Take care !

Hello, I would like to know, is it possible to keep a stock rom, and have the same keyboard as Cm 9? Don't know if it's the same as the normal ICS one. I use the ICS keayboard app from Google Play, it's really good, keyboard is the same, but I liked the way it underlined the wrong words in red, a bit like Microsoft Word!
And also, is it possible to have the same type of sms app? With the pictures of our friend always shown for new sms's and not just bubbles.

For your first issue. You wont get it to underline in red, because that is handled by the SMS app, not the keyboard. and why are you on XDA and using GB anyway?
So, this can't be done with a stock rom?
I'm on XDA because I used to have a Custom rom, CM9 then, Remics. But I use Tango quite often and apparently this app doesn't work with roms so this was kind of a deal-breaker. Moreover, tha camera app and the browsing experience was better with the stock rom, easier to watch Flash videos on my phone
Hi
I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post but I flashed the Ripper Rom with Aroma options.
Since then I have a strange text message problem. Basically I can receive messages fine, but any message from anyone starts a new message chain. I'll be texting someone several times over the course of 30 minutes and every message I receive starts a new message thread/chain instead of putting it in an existing text message thread with my response.
I hope that makes sense.
Does anyone have any idea of what could be the issue?
Oh and this happens on the default message app and on messenger metro.
Thanks
I had that problem 2 a while a go. Dont remember wich rom and version though... U should ask in the RipperRom forum, they probably know how to fix it... Until then u can try selecting another sms app in aroma options (if there is one...) or download a sms app from market...

Do you know how you fixed your problem?
I tried posting there originally but I can't post in the development section until I have 10 posts and I don't want to spam a load of topics just to get access there, as I figured people really wouldn't appreciate that!
Actually i dont know what they did... Its probebly the sms app that needs 2 be fixed. Maybe u must wait 4 a new version or try some other roms. I use pandoriam and dont have that problem. U could try search the forum 4 a fixed sms app and flash it through cwm. Good luck

I've just tried GoSMS and it's working fine there, so I'm wondering if my favoured messaging app just needs a fresh install or if it's a problem that would require an update or a rom to finish.
I'm not a huge fan of GoSMS so I'm still hoping to be able to fix the issue but in the meantime until someone else pitches in or I figure it out it will do.
Thanks for your help I really appreciate it.
I think you may be using the AOSP styled mms app. It seems to be a little buggy that mms and can cause that to happen, so I was thinking of removing it next update. It doesn't happen with the stock mms app but just the modded aosp styled
I don't know if it is the same but my gf had this problem on Slim JB on i9000 she fixed it by changing the time and date settings of all things!
I think she unchecked 'let network automatically select date and time' and set it manually.
Maybe try that and play around with date and time settings.
It sounds random but it might work

My N7000 was becoming unusably slow so on a recommendation elsewhere, I installed CM. I was quite surprised at how basic some of the apps are & now have some specific issues.
I have lost the ability to scale text size in both messaging & email apps. Text size can be altered globally but making it big enough to read without glasses in text messages makes it unusable in general use. I've found an alternative messaging app but not email.
Colours in the calendar app are all rendered so dark as to be indistinguishable from each other. I can't find any options to change this like there was in the stock ROM.
So my question is can I somehow install the Samsung versions of these apps or do I have to trawl the Play store looking for alternatives? Or better still, is there a ROM that retains these features?
Hopefully this won't fall foul of the Best ROM rule!
For email I recommend k9.

Dunke.
Just installed it & in the process discovered that it supports pinch zooming. Never occurred to me to try the default mail app & that does too! But for some reason the messaging app doesn't but I've installed Big Text SMS that both gives me large text & TTS.
That's because cyanogen mod is based on AOSP and most apps do not have any value add or customizations to allow for what you need.

Still searching for a solution to the calendar colour issues. Changing the colour of a calendar on the device workd for milliseconds before it reverts to the very dark, indistinguishable colours. I really don't want to have to duplicate every app on the phone with one that works.
I'm also getting really annoying Mobile Broadcast messages every few minutes telling me which cell I'm connected to & can't find anywhere to switch them off. The N7000 section of Cyanogen's own forum seems to be a ghost town so no point posting there.
Edit
Now found the Cyanogen thread for the Note so will try there.
