I was thinking on getting either the desire s or the incredible s. Im a moderate user therefore i have no need in a dual core phone or a 4.3" size which is too big for me. Also, i dont think im going to root it,so the fact that it has no root option doesnt concern me.
Im still not 100% sure, but im more leaning towards the incredible due to its 4" screen which seems just the right size for me and since i hear a lot about the wifi problem the desire s has.
Still, a few things i would like to know about the incredible s before buying it.
1. I would like to have a phone that has as less problems as possible (ie, random non stop reboots, etc). Does the incredible fits that? some ppl say it heats on the back quite a lot.. is that true?
2. Battery life.. i read mixed comments about it from ppl saying it doesnt even lasts 12 hours with light to moderate use... is that true? is the battery as bad as the previous htc desire?
2. Is there support for divx this time? or would i have to convert files to mp4?
Any other major issues this phone has which i should know about?

I've had no problems with my incredible s, it rebooted once but that has never happened since and i think it was my fault , i've experienced no heat what so every even under heavy usage
2. Battery life.. i read mixed comments about it from ppl saying it doesnt even lasts 12 hours with light to moderate use... is that true? is the battery as bad as the previous htc desire?
For me with moderate usage it has lasted 18 hours and still about 20% battery left, battery is great

As far as i know it supports divx

You will fall in love with it... that's about it
Thanks for your reply, makes me feel better about purchasing it
ok serious this is for me the last time i made a review or gave any info about this device, since most info can allready be found on the forum....
wifi - no probs
battery temperature - yes it gets hot.. but it depends how you use it... extreme usage is hot battery, also the weather around you has an influance on it offcourse... Like Fisk lives in stockholm.... no doubt it wont get hot over there LOL
battery lifetime - if you cant make it a full day than you would suprise me big time, when i used bluetooth wifi, heavily gaming, browsing on the web and having bad signals mostly of the day. i can make it for rougly 16-18 hours.
reboots - allot, my fault tho since im busy writing my own **** in here but standard... only had it once, and never after again.
divx - hmm i did not test that... so i dont know... but im almost sure it does
flash supported - offcourse
sound quality - according to others seems to be better than the devices that been delivered before
hope you got enough info on this now

Was all up for buying a Desire S until i read nightmare issues with wifi dropouts, so now it's down to the incredible or desire HD.
I think they both have the same software, HD has bigger screen?

HTC Incredible S has a slightly smaller screen (Desire HD had a 4.3 inch screen while the Incredible S has a 4 inch screen), a 1.3 megapixel front facing camera, slightly larger battery and better screen quality.
If you want a big screen, get the Desire HD. Otherwise, get the Incredible S.

More specifically, if you expect to use it one handed get the Incredible S. The DHD is too big for this IMO.

have beening using the phone for two weeks now. Don't have any problem, for me at least.
2. Battery life.. i read mixed comments about it from ppl saying it doesnt even lasts 12 hours with light to moderate use... is that true? is the battery as bad as the previous htc desire?
The battery is not too bad. If you are a moderate user, it surely can last for one day (maybe two days).
2. Is there support for divx this time? or would i have to convert files to mp4?
Haveb't tried this yet. Don't like watching movie on a phone (screen is too small for me).
My only certain is the plastic-like back cover. The back cover feels very fragile and the antena is painted ( or glued) on the it. If you don't put the back cover on, the phone won't have any signal at all. After all, it's not bad. Compared with other phones, it's not that expensive.
Hope it help

hey,
i was going to start a similar thread.. but
i am also stuck between desire S and incredible S.
i absolutely love desire s unibody design, and i dont really care about the wifi prob (besides there is some kind of fix to it as well), only concerns are ... the build quality: lots of ppl are talking about loose battery covers and screen not fitting in place lol, also the camera seems pretty lame...but the form factor/ screen size- perfect !
but incredible S... seems to have more developers to get the root (tho i think it will be ported to desire s as well afterwards... yea ?), but its only got froyo, not gingerbread, and its a bit too large, and not so darn beautiful >.<
and hows the music quality through the headphones (good stereo ? bass ?) and loudspeaker (no distortion ? loud ?) ?
only drawback- the bootloader on these phones and sense UI... would love CM 7 possibility

I just got this phone yesterday, and so far I like it!!
Bought a new Digitizer/LCD off ebay a few months ago and installed it myself.
Question is, could a new Digitizer/LCD be draining my battery more than usual?
I would say its possible, but those screen shots don't appear to fully support that. The way I would analyze that screen shot would be to say turn off wifi and see what a day without wifi looks like. You can see only the little amount your screen was on during your steady decline, but wifi was on constant.
Edit:
The drop doesn't seem to spike at the points your screen is on.
Its very routine for me to use Pandora (on 3G) with a Bluetooth headset for a few hours with my screen off, and have it show the display as the largest drain.

I thought you could only replace with a Samsung AMOLED screen, due to proprietary connections.
My guess would be the screen came from a bricked or otherwise incapacitated Captivate.

Then I'm guessing, as long as it was installed correctly, it's not the cause of the battery drain. Recalibrate, and give it a couple of charges. At least 3.

Trying both couldn't hurt. But for the truly scientific approach I would do it separate. Like data on, wifi off one day, next day both off, and finally a day of airplane mode. If you can live without it for a day. Just to try to pinpoint where that drain is.

Yeah, like Joe said, I could see it throwing off your calibration, being a new screen to "learn", but I wouldn't think it is really drawing any more power than any other screen would.
Plus you are using GB, and GB is known to have battery issues. I can't get the old Froyo bump charge tricks to work in GB, it just took several power cycles.
Maybe you should start there (instead of days of trial and error as I previously suggested)... how long ago did you replace the screen?

Where I am as of today.
Battery Calibrated, no data transfer, no sound... basically in my pocket all day.
What do you guys think? Isn't it weird how much battery my screen is eating up?
It does look like the screen is the cause from those shots, though there can be other things that turn on when the screen is on.
Just to be sure, have you tried changing the screen brightness? You might want to try setting it to the lowest setting for a time, then change it to the highest and compare.
What is that notification from? Looks like the juice defender one (i could be wrong, probably am, it was a long time ago that I tried it). If that's what it is I would try a day without that. When I used it it caused massive battery drain, essentially the opposite of what it's supposed to do.

Looking at the review form gsmarena.com LG 4XHD has twice shorter life time in video playback, talk time and web browsing (3:59H) than HTC ONE X+ (7:56H).
Batteries have the same capacity 2100mah, both phones are almost identical hardware (processor tegra 3 t30 vs t33, screen 4,7' etc) Why 4XHD has only 4H web browsing lifetime??

LG 4X HD have twice as bright screen in comparasion to HTC One X. In gsmarena battery life test they set the brightness on 50% on video and web browsing test, but 4X have black brightness 0.34 cd/m2 & white brightness 369 cd/m2, while One X have 0.15 cd/m2 black and 200 cd/m2 white brigtness. If you set 4X screen to 25% you'll get the same brightness, video and browsing time as One X +

I think the test is conditioned, where the active internet connection is solely from a close-ranged wifi router. Unlike mobile data, wifi signal is stable, so no extra juice is wasted for signal searching.
I highly agree that it's impossible to get a straight 8 hours of web browsing, though I've managed to get 5 hours of browsing non streaming web (I was surfing online comic book) using my home wifi

..No, they just don't specify if they've done their own test, if they've referenced another site, or simply typed down the info from the manufacturer.
edit: also, you get different playback times depending on what sort of codec you're using, and if the processor can run on very low clock-rates during the playback..

They always say that it's their own test.
And about the codec I agree with you, they should post the resolution and the codec of the video they used.
Right. But they kind of appear to be comparing their own test with a manufacturer's "best case" test. ..And we get these threads.

And brightness is on 50% automatic (mostly outdoor use)
anyway with these fixes that I mentioned earlier I got 4 hours of game play (20% brightness) 3 and a half online multilayer gaming, (Still CPUs eats a lot of battery tho)

Nah its parts too, and the quality of the battery rather than its capacity. The one x sucks, my friend is sending his for repair because overheating killed it after a year. No modification, not even root. Don't talk ****e, use the phone or sell it. I'm growing ever tired of these debates, I switched myself to an xperia t for improved gaming performance. The result was indeed better gaming, but also the battery overheating, which damaged it and now the phone shuts down all the time. At least our phone is reliable

Hello everyone!!
I recently bought an Xperia Z, but the problem is that the battery depletes after 3hours of onscreen time?, i went to the store and they too found it strange since it should have around 6 or 7 hours of onscreen time.
They exchanged the phone and gave me a new one, and sadly that phone had the exact same problem( REALLY!!?!?!!), and to top that, it's with screenlight at 25% and every battery heavy options turned off.
So i went to the store to get a refund. In the store another guy had exchanged his Xperia Z 4 times till He got a Z with a battery that worked as intended....
I will never buy a sony product again after this letdown..
And i would definitely not exchange my phone 4 times to hit the "Working-Battery lottery!"
It seems there is some sort of failure in the release of many of the Z's released, i found this guy with same problem

I don't get it, my battery lasts all day, I charge through the night and take it out at 7 roughly. Then I use it through the day playing games like shadowgun and using social networking sites like Facebook. I also use gmail quite often and I also watch YouTube videos aswell. If I have brightness automatic and battery stamina mode it can last me throughout the day. I haven't charged my phone sine 7 and I still have 13% charge left.

Pretty sure that wouldn't even work. One of the girls I work with just got an iphone 5 and the battery drains like crazy on that thing. She starts at 3am, and by ~8 she is below 15% and has to charge pretty soon after. Then she has to charge when she gets home, and again when she goes to sleep.
Meanwhile, I am one of the heaviest power users I know of, I use my phone for work (flashlight, camera, calendar, calculator, barcode scanner), frequently check facebook, ragecomics reader app, general web browsing and play store browsing, small downloads eg mp3, apps, flashable .zip tweaks from here, frequently check simpsons tapped out, play some dead trigger, watch about 30 -60 mins of movies, receive a few calls and texts, maybe 10-20 mins of music playback. Out of habit I normally pull my phone out every 10-15 minutes and unlock it, flick around absent mindedlu, then lock it again after not actually opening anything :\ not sure how I picked up that habit.
To top all that off, I have my screen brightness set to 100% with adjust to lighting conditions ticked, I have location services and sattelites on, auto sync on, 4g data always on, wifi on but location based activated, NFC on, and finally, also have better battery stats installed and allways doing it's thing as I am also experiencing some rougue wakelocks I am slowly dealing with (still stumped on what is causing audio_out2 and deleted_wake_lock)
Despite all this, my phone comes off charge around 330am, and doesn't charge till 8pmish when it finally runs out of juice. That is one hell of a solid effort as I have done pretty much nothing to help out my battery, and doing everything to make it struggle.
I have only undervolted slightly, and am using doomkernel on KA04 rom. I am not using stamina mode either. Infact, when I was using it on stock rom, I couldn't see any difference between using it and not using it. I can't really see how it would do much IF you had NO wakelocks (or very little). Besides knocking out LED all it really does it disable background processes, if you have your phone set up right you shouldn't really have any anyway:good:.
This phone leaves my previous galaxy S2 in it's dust for battery life under the same usage in anycase (I used to charge that thing about 3 times a day most days).

+3 or whatever that is up to now.
All phones take time and a number of charges before the battery stabilises, and start running at optimum.

My battery was pretty bad when I just got the phone, now it's better
Can we just put all of these meaningless threads into 1 meaningless thread?

actually on my iPhone 5 I get more like 9 hours of screen time, sometimes 10. Not saying that your friends account is false, but that sure is hell doesn't seem consistent with any battery rundown test I've ever seen.I can go 2 days without charging it roughly, I'm sure the incoming hate and vitriol for my use of an iPhone as a daily driver is about to pour in from the less intelligent Android users, but this is one of the reasons my iPhone is still my daily driver. That and a consistently good camera.
Cheers~
P.S. I have owned many many many Android flagships and am an experienced power user.
Since when did iPhones ship with battery stats?
Or is there an app for that?
Batteries need a few charging cycles before doing their job properly. It's like having sex for the first time. The first time you might be disappointing but as you do it more often, you supposedly become better at it. Batteries work the same way.

Can't believe you just compared batteries on a phone to sex.
My battery life is acceptable. Getting up to 4hours screen time or a little more from 09 - 22. At this time, I then have about 14% more or less. And this is by alot of whatsapp, messaging, maybe a call or two. This is not using LTE. I find it very battery draining so I stick with 3G. Besided i am on WiFi most of the time.
So as long the phone can do a whole day without charging in most normal days for some people that don't travel alot, I ffind the battery acceptable

OK I can find the answers here most likely but I just wanted to ask questions.
I have had s2 and s3. both rooted. both custom kernels. etc. I noticed vast improvements. the one frankly makes me nervous. should I even root it?
its on telus network in Canada. seems the ones are all the same no? unlike Samsung galaxy series. is development advanced enough to go ahead? I've only had the phone now for less than a week. I really do like it. miss the physical home button. don't care about aluminum design etc. nervous about sealed battery. but the battery life is awesome so far. even on the first charge I got all day and 6 hours of screen. this was with playing with settings. trying speakers. etc. but of course I'm always looking for more.
I'd say rooting my s3 meant I went from all day and 5 hours screen to all day and 6 plus hours screen. definitely worth it. should I expect the same here? I really want a secondary way to wake the device. pushing a touch button or swipe would be nice. will these not work in a dark room? any detrimental reasons why I wouldn't want this?
I mostly want battery life. convince me that I have the right phone. I can still return it I think. but got a good deal on the phone. basically paid 500 for it new. on a plan. 150 off price. and 500 device balance should I decide to pay it out. s4 is still 150 on contract. plus the 500 device balance. I want to like the one I really do. but missing Samsung sometimes. this is not an s4 vs one thread. just help me make the most of this device.
oh and today battery life is not so good. 12 hours up time. 2.5 hrs screen and 40% left. not terrible I guess. but perhaps something is sending it down some.
another question. what root features will do me the most for battery? with s3 I set screen off max to really really low. and that helped. under volt across the board and limit CPU speed. but this is my first quad core. thanks
Don't wanna sound mean, but save yourself the trouble and switch the One for the S4. I've enough experience to know that when you're questioning a phone, asking whether it's the right one for you or not, usually means the mind's set on something else and you'll never be happy with it. If you miss Samsung and you like the ability to switch batteries, why not go with the S4? It's not a bad device, and you said yourself that you don't care about the aluminium design of the One.
If battery life is what you're after, I'd be happy to let you know there are a lot of beefy batteries available for the S4. Check Amazon for instance.
Cheers.

Fair enough. I don't know any battery saving tweaks as I don't pay much mind to that. I just use my device like I want to use it, then charge whenever I see fit. I have a charger at home, next to my bed (which is also conveniently close to my desk) so I'm happy if it lasts 8 hours of medium usage (whenever I'm working)
I just don't wanna see you miserable, mate. I've seen far too many people making the wrong choice of phone (myself included, though not with the One) and ending up hating anything and everything (not literally ).
i agree with theshawty 1st post...
@OP, i think you only want some attention and some words to help you sleep at night... you're not a noob in rooting world, you already know about the difference between HTC and Samsung in battery area, and now you want others to convince you? nobody can...
Try JuiceDefender. It does a good job of managing radios and turning things off and on based on location in addition to some other solid battery saving techniques.
Also, I hear your pain. I love the design and the speakers. I even like Sense for the first time ever. I think I miss the physical home button of my S2 and 3 though. Reaching for the power button is annoying and compounded by the fact that the screen stays off when texts are received.

you should stick with the S4. The battery life on the One will make you hate it later. I had the S4 but switched to the One because I just enjoy the screen of the One more than the S4.

really? i average 30+ hrs with 5-7 hrs screen time which is on par with the s4 i had but the lag was to much. how does a phone with the same processor as the one but overclocked to 1.9 ghz lag when the one at 1.7 ghz doesnt? that is unacceptable for a flagship device
Man you guys are so helpful S-off your phone and unlock ur bootloader then load the 4.2.2 leak the battery life and camera are amazing on it...root and use greenify and enable auto hibernation.Enable power saver but disable the screen option(which really dims screen) put screen brightness @ 50% trust me awesome Battery life

I'm not a noob to rooting. I've done it with almost every phone I've had. I just happen to not have much experience with HTC. I had a desire HD. rooted. but got rid of it shortly after.
like I said if I was so desperate for the s4 I would get it. or i would go out and buy one outright. i saved 150 buying the one, its got rave reviews, and so far save for a few thinga i love it. I said I don't care about aluminum, but truth be told this phone seems much more robust than s4. materials aside. and that's important. if it was a robust plastic phone I would not care.
I've been reading the forums but really haven't had much time lately. thanks for replies

About that screenshot... Did you leave it unplugged @ 100% from the last nightt? 7hrs with 98% is just unrealistic, and considering it's early morning when you took the shot...
