Bought a new Digitizer/LCD off ebay a few months ago and installed it myself.
Question is, could a new Digitizer/LCD be draining my battery more than usual?
I would say its possible, but those screen shots don't appear to fully support that. The way I would analyze that screen shot would be to say turn off wifi and see what a day without wifi looks like. You can see only the little amount your screen was on during your steady decline, but wifi was on constant.
Edit:
The drop doesn't seem to spike at the points your screen is on.
Its very routine for me to use Pandora (on 3G) with a Bluetooth headset for a few hours with my screen off, and have it show the display as the largest drain.

Okay, I am charging up right now and going to calibrate my battery tonight. Should I turn off Data too, tomorrow? Or just Wifi?
Not sure what it is...or what it does, but is it after market or Samsung.

It was from another Cappy. Basically, it came with everything but the guts (Motherboard, etc).

I thought you could only replace with a Samsung AMOLED screen, due to proprietary connections.
My guess would be the screen came from a bricked or otherwise incapacitated Captivate.

Then I'm guessing, as long as it was installed correctly, it's not the cause of the battery drain. Recalibrate, and give it a couple of charges. At least 3.

I would think the same. But this wouldn't effect the battery life, would it?
I mean obviously I put it together right if everything works with it?

Trying both couldn't hurt. But for the truly scientific approach I would do it separate. Like data on, wifi off one day, next day both off, and finally a day of airplane mode. If you can live without it for a day. Just to try to pinpoint where that drain is.

Yeah, like Joe said, I could see it throwing off your calibration, being a new screen to "learn", but I wouldn't think it is really drawing any more power than any other screen would.
Plus you are using GB, and GB is known to have battery issues. I can't get the old Froyo bump charge tricks to work in GB, it just took several power cycles.
Maybe you should start there (instead of days of trial and error as I previously suggested)... how long ago did you replace the screen?

Where I am as of today.
Battery Calibrated, no data transfer, no sound... basically in my pocket all day.
What do you guys think? Isn't it weird how much battery my screen is eating up?
It does look like the screen is the cause from those shots, though there can be other things that turn on when the screen is on.
Just to be sure, have you tried changing the screen brightness? You might want to try setting it to the lowest setting for a time, then change it to the highest and compare.
What is that notification from? Looks like the juice defender one (i could be wrong, probably am, it was a long time ago that I tried it). If that's what it is I would try a day without that. When I used it it caused massive battery drain, essentially the opposite of what it's supposed to do.

I put my screen brightness to the lowest possible.
I just don't get how the screen could do that considering it is put it and works perfectly...

Hi,
I was searching but couldn't find anything with regards to my issue. I've had my Galaxy s I9000M for a bit over a week and have noticed that the battery level, even while doing nothing, will decrease more when I am moving vs when I am stationary. The phone IS rooted, unlocked and I also have applied the OCLF 2.0. I have disabled GPS as well as the 'Use wireless networks' but they seem to have done nothing in regards to prolonging battery life. My guess is that it has something to do either with some kind of location tracking that I have overlooked or the built-in accelerometer. If anyone has any idea what it might be that drains my battery while I am mobile vs stationary, please advise.
Thanks in advance.
I think it got something to do with live wallpaper. I had same problem, before i go to work its 100%. I hardly use it at work cos got a work phone. 8 hours later and its down to 60%. Im on jm8 with digital wall paid live wallpaper.

Varying signal strength could also cause that, as the cell radio will use more power when in weaker signal areas.

I don't think that would apply to my case though, since I am still using the default wallpaper that came with it, but that is definitely something that i will have to keep in mind. Thanks for that.

I have not even considered that, but I suppose that could be a possibility. I'm wondering if there is anything that I could do that could prolong the battery life if what you suggested would actually be the cause.
Anyone else have any possible ideas or suggestions?
Thanks again for the replies.
Hi, I would like to buy an Incredible S, but one thing I am thinking is battery life. Is it worth it to change it for an HD2 ? I'm quite satisfied with it but I don't like the battery life wich is bad because of the Display 4,3 inch TFT and battery capacity of 1230mAh. I also would like some smaller device like IS.
So my question is. How long last the phone with brightness set to 50% in standby ? Has anybody tried it ? My HD2 last about 3 hours until it dies what is incredibly low.
thanks for answers
so you mean with screen on for 3 hours? being idle?
i wouldnt even try that... because of the risk of burning in the screen...

yes exactly so. What? Burning in the screen ? Something like that is possible? Can't be. How would it differ to a screen on being not idle ? I mean when somebody use his phone whole 3 hours and do something like surfing etc then what would be the difference between his screen on and mine ?
I don't need to know exactly the time what it will last but around what would be my battery life when I would change from HD2 to IS. Because of that I am asking about the screen consumption because it sucks most of the battery...

There's a huge difference between leaving the screen on idle for several hours and using the phone for several hours. Although "Burn ins" doesn't happen on LCD displays (I don't recall), it is possible to get an "image persistance" which kind of creates a ghost image on the display. It's only a temporary problem but why take the risk? The Incredible S has a 1450 mAh battery, so theoretically it should be better than the HD2.

Yes I know that, but was just wondering how long would it last compare to my HD2 so another question wich you could know from every day use.
QUESTION : For how long is the display on when you put your phone on charger ? I mean from 100% to (0-20)%, with medium usage without navigating, or 3G.
With use of wifi, some browsing, listening to music, maybe playing a few minutes some game. How long from that time was your screen on ?
Could you or someone else tell me ?
diwad heavily usage wifi, bluetooth, gaming etc.etc. around 18hours
The programs that are running in the background are sometimes more battery draining than the display.

Hello,
Googled for it few times but still no luck. I have Incredible S Red. HTC specified that it has Super LCD but why do the colors look like Incredible S has AMOLED screen? I noticed the same issue with older Desire devices which surely had AMOLEDs - reddish tint, not very vivid colors.

I don't find this at all..
I find the colors very vivid.
In fact, if you read reviews that is one of the most talked about things on the inc s.
Most reviews say Incredible S and Desire S has the best screens so far from HTC and I have used almost all major HTC phones including HD2 and DHD and in my opinion its screen is by far the best of the lot.
About battery life... I have my phone online all the time either on WiFi or phone data and a couple of email accounts on push mail. I surf and use social networking frequently and with custom Rom from Mike and Virtuous Unity and my CPU OC to 1.3GHz I get around 36-48 hours out of one full charge with moderate callings.
It's far better then HD2 in my experience
Regards.
Ehsan
Oh, ok, then I guess I have to send my Incredible S to HTC so they can fix the screen issue.
BTW, is there a 100% certain way to determine the screen type of the device by some version number, software, etc.?

Reddish tint? Dude must have a defective one
It all depends on what you keep on...
I do not have 3G on all the time in order to save battery and using it normally and playing a couple games and apps per day. I would say a normal day's usage with 20% remaining around night time. If I cut the wifi when i sleep it lasts me till midday of the next day.. Its pretty decent without it being spectacular..
Running all stock
1. Battery life HORRIBLE!!! 7 hours and 30min uptime 45min of use total during that time and it was on 4% left (this was ALL on EDGE)
2. CAMERA SLOWNESS and pics look crappy Went to Disney for 2 days. Missed LOADS Of things cause I would select Camera and it would take several seconds to load up. Then pictures look worse than a very old VX5600 with a VGA camera (Yes the settings are set to full) 1080p Videos look better than the pics
Is these two gonna get fixed with Gingerbread? and has anyone heard when it will come?
From what I have heard LG rushed this device out to be the first dual core 3d phone. So that's why they went with froyo. There is suppose to be a ton of fixes in gingerbread like 3d camera fixes and performance fixes. I would just wait for a custom rom or if your impatient get a different device

Wow you have quite a lot of issues there which oddly enough I don't suffer from at all. Yes I am still running stock and no I have nothing special installed but than again I don't have a lot of apps installed either. My suggestion to you would be to check and see what programs you have constantly running because that can cause a Lot of the sluggishness as well as the battery drain. I mean I ran 19 hrs. with light use and the battery on mine was still sitting at 25%.

In my opinion? No. But you have to choose the device that's right for you.
I charge my battery when needed as I am almost always near an outlet.
I use widget locker to have a direct to camera unlock slider and I can pull up the camera in about 3-5 seconds. I use the camera strictly for 3D pictures - I bought a point and shoot that is light years beyond *any* phone camera for real pictures when I am going somewhere special. It's a Panasonic I believe, and from power on to picture ready is about 1 second, if anyone's interested. And it fits in my pocket.
Personally, I feel that cameras in phones are there just to take a quick photo of something when you don't have a dedicated device handy or don't need super photo frame quality.
The 3D pictures I take look great, and my only gripe is the long delay between the time you press the button and time the picture is actually snapped. I'm hoping LG's GB update will fix all of that, but it's not a deal breaker for me.
I wouldn't go to a non-3D camera phone now, so I'll probably upgrade when better phones with 3D capabilities come out.
Well my mesmerize galaxy s I had OMG itbtook better pics than thisthing. And even video. Its pics was amazing And I'm use to my phone as soon as I hit camera the camera comes up and I don't have to wait for it to come up. And battery life is a problem cause I travel a lot. I thought my cdma device had bad battery. This is worse. Even though GSM tends to have better battery life
Sent from my LG-P925 using XDA App
Think about exchanging it for another device, if it bothers you that much.
I travel constantly for work and so far have not had a problem with the battery - it seems to me it lasts much longer when it's nearly drained. I left my hotel not realizing my battery was down to 6% - I used GPS and maps for about 30 minutes (albeit not CONSTANT use) and I was able to reach my destination, and find my way back to the hotel with 4% left.
YMMV.
seems like alot of people are complaining about this device having a sucky battery. It's an android phone. Charge, EVO 3D, Revolution and Bionic have the same issue. It's not this phone alone.

besides the atrix everything you mentioned has a single processor. Thrill has a bigger screen, outdated OS and 3D effects that would make battery life less then an atrix.
Unfortunately I returned my Thrill. I loved the phone but reminds me too much of the LG G2X problems, which I once had. I attempted to record a non-3d video 4 times in a row. Everytime the phone rebooted 10-12 sec into the recording. I even attempted to take a 3d photo of the misses a day later and the phone locked up . This all on a stock Thrill, 3 days old. Maybe I'll wait untill the bugs are worked out. Back to my Infuse.

Sounds like a bad phone. I've been doing a rediculous amount of recording and picture taking (to show off the 3D ) without any issues. Camera is a little on the slow side compared to my HTC but nothing too bad. These things aren't all created equal. One phone can have an issue that the next one doesn't, even if it is the same make/model.

They may be updating the WiFi models to honeycomb next week. I have the 3g model. It is good, except the battery life is not good ( max of 4 hours). The screen is 800 x 480, but I find it quite nice. Get rid of the Dell stage launcher. It is very snappy. I'm pleased with mine. Edit: the honeycomb update is supposed to help the battery drain issues.
The form factor is great, fits the hand well and is good for carrying around. It won't charge from a computer USB, but will operate while connected. It has to have the special mains charger to actually charge the battery.
Edit: some people have reported a problem with " read only" memory, but I have not had any issues.

FOUR HOURS? Wow. That sucks. My Wifi Only with wifi on I think it's around 10, with wifi off at screen off, more like 50. All assuming standby with no use etc..
I wanted to add one more thing about the USB connection, it uses this stupid proprietary, hard to plug in, potentially not reliable (IMO) dock connector for charging or USB, there's no microusb connector or such on the device. Personally this annoys me, I hate the dock connector. Maybe it's more robust than I think it is, but every night when I plug it in I wonder how many more times it's going to work.
My first one suffered nand read only (but i spend atleast 4hrs a week in adb and nvflash and fastboot trying to solve) cant send mine into dell cause i took it apart very easy 6 screws .....but being as i bought it new and got to make payments from tmous no biggie you live you learn ......my second one i paid like 150 cash for and its been great ive even tried to get it to lock the nand so i could figure out what the problem was, it seems solid as a rock
pros (1) great form factor
(2) 4g model keeps me connected to the shop when im out
(3) doesn't look as cheesy as some of the other models out there
(4) great for ICE (in car entertainment) movies, gps, streaming music over 4g
Cons (1) battery
(2) if you do any gaming or video make sure your not gonna use it for the rest of the day ....lol
(3) and finally yes there are people out there that will oooo and ahahah over your new ipad .....until you tell them its not one and then there like O....its one of those android junk tablets then isn't it
sorry for the slight rant ....but boring day at the sign shop .....back to making stickers i go

I don't use the wifi off at screen off because it requires the table to re-acquire the wifi. You are the first person to claim 10 hours of use, much less 50 hours of standby. Most people have experienced along what I claim, about 4 hours max.
Or are you saying that the device is on standby for 10 hours? That is possible.
I get 10 to 12 hrs on moderate use, mainly web & light games throughout the day. I would imagine that it might last 4-5 hours of constant use.

I really like mine now that I got the read-only error fixed by Dell. And for $208 that is a pretty good deal. I say go for it.
I really like my Streak 7 Wifi. Bought it for $200 a couple of months ago. It does everything I want so far and with Honeycomb on the way even better.
I would definitely consider the new Amazon Kindle Fire coming out in November for $199 if I was currently in the market. I don't know how the Fire is locked down or anything yet but I would definitely find out before buying. The hardware seems to be a bit more modern in the screen.
With that said I still love my Streak and have no regret in buying it.

As for my usage, I pretty much said exactly what i meant..

So just to repeat it.. Standby, 10 hours with wifi on, 50 with wifi off. I've never really measured run-time with the screen on the whole time, but it generally uses 12-15%/hr in normal use, higher playing games or other heavy CPU stuff.
I've had days where I'm doing a lot with the tablet, such as a few hours programming a new thing in Tasker, playing Zenonia, browsing news etc etc.. Never have I had it dying before bed, maybe 20% at the end of the day at the worst.

Reconnecting to wireless is about 5s.. By the time I unlock it and go to an app, wifi is up... Completely a non-issue. If if you use something like Green Power, it'll continue to receive email etc, and I have it leave wifi on while connected to AC.

I recommend the Kindle Fire if you can wait.
If the 7 gets honeycomb yes, buy it - if it doesn't, do not buy.

Odd, I've done nothing special. Haven't removed any of the silly stock apps, stock ROM, using a custom kernel but it didn't change battery life (added tun.ko). I went back and forth with airplane mode, phone apk's removed, and no change in either regard and didn't see much difference there either, but I've since left it in airplane mode.

How did you remove the phone.apk? I noticed that the cell standby uses up the most battery on my Streak 7. I would like to remove that if possible... or at least prevent it from running.
I've got mine in plane mode to stop cell standby and the wifi on and off as needed. I usually get through a workday using up about 60% battery.
I love the form and the speed. I wear a cargo vest on my job maintaing apartments, the streak, in an Otterbox Defender, rides in a front pocket. I use Evernote to docume

Hello everyone!!
I recently bought an Xperia Z, but the problem is that the battery depletes after 3hours of onscreen time?, i went to the store and they too found it strange since it should have around 6 or 7 hours of onscreen time.
They exchanged the phone and gave me a new one, and sadly that phone had the exact same problem( REALLY!!?!?!!), and to top that, it's with screenlight at 25% and every battery heavy options turned off.
So i went to the store to get a refund. In the store another guy had exchanged his Xperia Z 4 times till He got a Z with a battery that worked as intended....
I will never buy a sony product again after this letdown..
And i would definitely not exchange my phone 4 times to hit the "Working-Battery lottery!"
It seems there is some sort of failure in the release of many of the Z's released, i found this guy with same problem

I also have bad battery life, but yet I don't see your point of making this topic at all.
6/7h on screen time really yo? On a 1080p screen... maybe next year. There are plenty of people that reached 5h+
If you want 7h on screen time, get an iPhone LOL! That way we would get rid of you and you would be with the other sheeple.
Topic is useless, can't believe you made an account just to say that.

I don't get it, my battery lasts all day, I charge through the night and take it out at 7 roughly. Then I use it through the day playing games like shadowgun and using social networking sites like Facebook. I also use gmail quite often and I also watch YouTube videos aswell. If I have brightness automatic and battery stamina mode it can last me throughout the day. I haven't charged my phone sine 7 and I still have 13% charge left.

Pretty sure that wouldn't even work. One of the girls I work with just got an iphone 5 and the battery drains like crazy on that thing. She starts at 3am, and by ~8 she is below 15% and has to charge pretty soon after. Then she has to charge when she gets home, and again when she goes to sleep.
Meanwhile, I am one of the heaviest power users I know of, I use my phone for work (flashlight, camera, calendar, calculator, barcode scanner), frequently check facebook, ragecomics reader app, general web browsing and play store browsing, small downloads eg mp3, apps, flashable .zip tweaks from here, frequently check simpsons tapped out, play some dead trigger, watch about 30 -60 mins of movies, receive a few calls and texts, maybe 10-20 mins of music playback. Out of habit I normally pull my phone out every 10-15 minutes and unlock it, flick around absent mindedlu, then lock it again after not actually opening anything :\ not sure how I picked up that habit.
To top all that off, I have my screen brightness set to 100% with adjust to lighting conditions ticked, I have location services and sattelites on, auto sync on, 4g data always on, wifi on but location based activated, NFC on, and finally, also have better battery stats installed and allways doing it's thing as I am also experiencing some rougue wakelocks I am slowly dealing with (still stumped on what is causing audio_out2 and deleted_wake_lock)
Despite all this, my phone comes off charge around 330am, and doesn't charge till 8pmish when it finally runs out of juice. That is one hell of a solid effort as I have done pretty much nothing to help out my battery, and doing everything to make it struggle.
I have only undervolted slightly, and am using doomkernel on KA04 rom. I am not using stamina mode either. Infact, when I was using it on stock rom, I couldn't see any difference between using it and not using it. I can't really see how it would do much IF you had NO wakelocks (or very little). Besides knocking out LED all it really does it disable background processes, if you have your phone set up right you shouldn't really have any anyway:good:.
This phone leaves my previous galaxy S2 in it's dust for battery life under the same usage in anycase (I used to charge that thing about 3 times a day most days).

+3 or whatever that is up to now.
All phones take time and a number of charges before the battery stabilises, and start running at optimum.

actually on my iPhone 5 I get more like 9 hours of screen time, sometimes 10. Not saying that your friends account is false, but that sure is hell doesn't seem consistent with any battery rundown test I've ever seen.I can go 2 days without charging it roughly, I'm sure the incoming hate and vitriol for my use of an iPhone as a daily driver is about to pour in from the less intelligent Android users, but this is one of the reasons my iPhone is still my daily driver. That and a consistently good camera.
Cheers~
P.S. I have owned many many many Android flagships and am an experienced power user.
Since when did iPhones ship with battery stats?
Or is there an app for that?
Batteries need a few charging cycles before doing their job properly. It's like having sex for the first time. The first time you might be disappointing but as you do it more often, you supposedly become better at it. Batteries work the same way.

Can't believe you just compared batteries on a phone to sex.
My battery life is acceptable. Getting up to 4hours screen time or a little more from 09 - 22. At this time, I then have about 14% more or less. And this is by alot of whatsapp, messaging, maybe a call or two. This is not using LTE. I find it very battery draining so I stick with 3G. Besided i am on WiFi most of the time.
So as long the phone can do a whole day without charging in most normal days for some people that don't travel alot, I ffind the battery acceptable
