[Q] How to Flash XXJPY

Hi, I got the JPY ROM from the thread in the general discussion, and any time i have tried to flash it onto my phone, the phone refuses to start properly. It just vibrates a couple of times and black screens.
I am using Odin 1.3 and PIT 512 for this as it says on SamFirmware.com.
Is this the ROM not working properly, or me doing something wrong?
Mate did you click repartition in odin?If you did then you SHOULDNT!!!!
Try to get in to recovery mod with the 3 button combo and make a factory reset if yo had NOT clicked repartition.
In case had HAD clicked repartition in Odin then i guess you ll have to download a foul stock firmware and flash it.Meaning a firmeare that has Modem and CSC files aswell and not only PDA file...
I'm just about to flash XXJPY and I was just wondering, do I have to unroot 'before' flashing the single file (pda) XXJPY or can I leave it as is..?? Does it make any difference..??
Thanks

nah you dont need to have it rooted to flash JPY.
I believe the JPY file in the general forum is just an upgrade / high level package which is why you dont tick repartition. Usually look for posts by Richthofen- hes the dude who converts it to mid level packages so you can couple it with a CSC and modem.
hi there same thing happened to me i updated this thru samsung kies im stock at black screen would factory reset make my phone work again? i need help please please please

I am already rooted so should I un-root before flashing or just leave it rooted..???
And also have SGS Battery Icon Mod installed, again does this have to be un-installed before flash or not..??
Can someone post a link to the right ROM that I can use to update using ODIN that will not result in existing data lost ? The one that I downloaded is a single tar file (Size - 298,890KB) that contains these files. If this is the right file, do i just specify the tar file in the PDA and uncheck repartition ?
modem.bin
param.lfs
zimage
cache.rfs
factoryfs.rfs

My I9000 is international and factory unlocked....

[Q] How do I flash homebinary.tar files?

This may be a dumb question, and I've looked around the forums, but can't find an answer.
I've downloaded KC1 for my Galaxy S, and the file I downloaded is I9000UGKC1_homebinary.tar
I looked inside the tar file and there is cache.rfs, factoryfs.rfs, modem.bin, param.lfs, etc
How do I flash these with Odin?
Thanks
what is the file used for? is it a modem? kernel ?
Well, I downloaded the firmware file for KC1 for the i9000 from samfirmware.com
I was wondering how to upgrade my phone to that, but it only had the one TAR file (and not the PHONE, PDA and MODEM files that other firmwares have).
So i'm not sure how I'm suppose to flash it.
oh!
well you place the file in the PDA tab in odin, and flash away (while repartition is UNCHECKED)
As per the instructions on Samfirmware in regard to flashing with odin .

Reboot into download mode
Connect your phone to pc
Select the downloaded file under PDA tab

Phone will reboot
After phone started
Now disconnect the cable.
Reboot into recovery
Wipe cache/dalvik
Reboot system.

[Q] How to downgrade from CM10 to stock GB?

Long story but I need to downgrade my i9000 from CM10 (currently on c-rom bean v2.3) back to stock 2.3.6 and couldnt find anything specific to the i9000 on to how to do it. Can I just get the stock firmware (ie PDA, CSC, Phone) and then flash through Odin? But I read on XDA (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1729458) that I may also need PIT and Bootloader? If so, where can I download these files??? Any help greatly appreciated!!!!

You have to download any 3 files stock ROM (I suggest you JVS, as JW versions can damage your IMEI), then select PDA, CSC and Phone
in ODIN. You don't have to have bootloader, as it is already in PDA, and yes, you have to have PIT file, it is usually within archive with ROM.
Just flash it and you're done. For download go to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1837223 and you'll find
there any ROM you want. Hope it will help you.

Thanks for your prompt response. I am looking to go back to stock GB and last time I downloaded them from here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881&page=1). I chose XWJW8/XWJW1/VAUJV9/Sbl (CSC: VAU (Vodafone)) as I live in Australia and my provider is Vodafone. But how do I extract the PIT file??
Also out of curiosity, what if I chose the stock rom of another network provider? Does it make a difference??

you cannot extract a PIT File, you can download a 512 PIT file from My Android Collections
If you use telstra , it will not work for vodafone and vice versa as they are branded
(Do remember to backup your contacts, data, images etc and also your EFS folder before flashing a ROM and make sure you have more than 50% battery charge before you attempt any sort of flashing.)

Ok. So I take the 512 pit file from your link and also the official GB firmware from Ramad's thread. Then flash using Odin with only PIT, PDA, Phone and CSC. Also "re-partition", "Auto reboot" and "F Reset Time" needs to be ticked. Sorry about being so padantic but just wanted to make sure I get the steps right the first time. Thanks!!!
