Samsung galaxy S Clock Time delay - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Everyone!
I have a Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000 with Froyo 2.2 and I noticed that the Clock Time is always becoming late.
((I also noticed that this only happens when the Phone is running on battery)NOT TRUE). I did a factory reset, installed different clocks widgets, but the phone clock is always delaying. I have no idea why this is happening!
Any suggestions?

First step is back up data and factory reset .

Done!!! Still the same!!!

Go to menu\settings\time & date & check that "Automatic network values" is checked. If it is then its possible that your provider is sending the wrong time info.

I've found the same with Voda Ireland, I unchecked auto values and installed "ClockSync"

I tried with that option checked and unchecked, and still it delays.
Thanks Anyway.

Did the same, but this way you have to be always connected to the internet, and it doesn't fix the problem. It is just a way to bypass this problem. (thanks anyway)
What I was able to find, using the Clock Sync, is that the Phone as an average time drift of -3760,654, more than an hour per day. But the reason why this is happening it's completely unknown for me.
Oh, and BTW, I said above this deviation only occurs when the Phone is running on the battery, but that is not true!!!

Very odd, mine would only go out by an hour if I left it on auto, you can set a different interval time and select wifi only, but it works fine over 2g, I can't see it pulling much data if you're worried about that.
Mine goes out by about 0.3 of a second a day, which is quite negligible

That doesn't worry me that much, but I was really interested in knowing why this happens and get a proper resolution.
Could it be related to the ROM installed on the Phone?

Changed the ROM to GingerBread 2.3.3 so far it works like a charm!!

Mine 2.3.3 but still having this issue.. how to solve???

Hi. Just wondering if anyone has gotten around to a solution to the problem. I have been resetting my phone's time every day as it gets delayed more and more as the day goes. I reset it, after a few hours it will be 2 mins delayed (against my laptop's time), by the end of the day, it would already be 5-7 mins late. I didn't notice it before until I realised that my phone's already a day late!
I've tried the above suggestions, but I still have the same problem. Kindly help me out of this one. Thank you.

British Summer Time

I thought Windows Mobile automatically changed to British Summmer time etc . Mine didn't last night .. Is it suposed to ? Thought it usd to
Mine did.
Did you select that option when you first set it up?
my guess is that you never told it to do this.
start|settings|phone|timezones - automatic change time zone and clock
Strange that is checked in the phone options . Do you mean at initial set up from hard reset ?
hrmmm. yours was clicked? I'd set the clock back to yesterday at 11:59 and watch what happens again.
The time zones option is not for daytlight savings. It is for the device to auto change timezone when you travel/roam... and it is most certainly not advised - as it changes all your appointment times too!
(And there;s threads on here saying it does other nasty things too).
Hi yea , just hard reset and done that ... Nothing
You can actually check the thing buy looking at the notification queue (at least for my WM5 HTC Wizard). You'll see an item on DST changing time. Do whatever you want, and see if that's noted there.

The time change happens at 0200 - the official changeover time.
Hmm , Ive hard reset ... Nothing .. Sorry what additional software do i need to see the notification queue
I would be interested in this too; mine didn't change over and in fact neither did my old WM 2003 Himalaya and it usually did
What version of the phone are you lads using?
Im using a Vario III and mine updated fine.
HTC Branded Tytn 11
i wonder if i can add problem to this,,,mine update fine..BUT my alarms still go off at the old time ie..7.00 am to get up is set to 7 but goes off at 6....
i am sure a hard reset will fix it , just wanted let you all know....

Help!!!! Time keeps changing

Hey!
I seriously need some help here. Toolbar clock keeps changing. Suddenly it is on time and then the next time I turn it on it might have gone back 2 hours.
Example.
I turn it on and the clock shows 15.34.
I check my calendar and turn it off (standby)
I turn it on again the next time, say after 30 min. The clock SHOULD show 16.04, but it might say 07.17.
Anybody had the same problem?
I tried calling out, send a message, etc. but the clock does not change. Sometimes it goes back to normal, ie. it displays the correct time without me doing anything, but today it has not and the time is still wrong.
This is seriously annoying. I use my phone as my watch and I need it to display the correct time at ALL times.
Thanks
Hi, helangen.
I had a similar problem involving time. I kept finding that every so often my appointments kept changing by an hour. Everytime I went to the clock settings it showed plus one hour. So changed it back and then it would do it again and change to a time zone ahead.
Under "settings/personal/phones" there is a tab that says time zones. this controls whether or not the phone changes the time zones and clock automatically.
Personally, i erased my phone using clear storage under "settings/system" and started a fresh making sure I choose the right time zone and regional settings first off. Then entered all my reoccuring appointments and restored a copy of my PIM with the latest version of PIMBACKUP. At least this saved me entering all my contacts and kept my sms and mms.
I then unticked the automatic option I mentioned earlier and have had not one time related problem since.
Don't know if this will help but it can't hurt to share as you never know..

Cheers. I'll give that a try. It's not that the clock just changes with an hour, but it is totally random how it changes. I might have to do a hard reset ;(
I can confirm that this solution worked. Thanks. Turned off the automatic timezone change and the clock have been correct for three days straight.

All of my appointments are an hour off after DST change!

Please forgive me if this is being discussed elsewhere, but I skimmed through the Kaiser forum, and I didn't see anyone else mentioning this problem. My phone automatically reset the clock for DST yesterday, and looking through the calendar today all the appointments are an hour off. For example, my work schedule. On the day summary page it says I work 07:30 - 21:00 today, however when you click edit appointment it says 06:30 - 20:00. On Wednesday I have jury duty. On the day page it says that jury duty starts at 10:30, however it really starts at 9:30, and if I show up an hour late I am in contempt of court!
Is there a setting I am not aware of? When I click edit appointment it shows the correct time, but on the day page its an hour late. The thing that really bothers me is that since I have an erratic schedule at work I have it set to remind me an hour before, just in case I forget to set my alarm clock the night before. Today I got my 1 hour reminder while actually driving to work!
I am using the new Tilt ROM, details are in my signature.
Thanks, Jay
Update: I've been on the phone with AT&T tech support for 30 minutes now, and it still doesn't work right ...

If you are saying the Today Screen Calendar is off by an hour, but the calendar inside the pda is ok; A soft reset should fix your issue.
We had a couple of Hermes and kaiser's with this issue yesterday.
Try the attached cab
Ok, I 've been transferred to HTC support from ATT, which is nice, I didn't have to call them myself, and the ATT rep explained my problem to them. There is a hotfix of this issue, I haven't tried it yet, but I figured I'd share. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949168

WOW! Mine is too!
Didn't even notice.
All my calendar events were changed from 8am start to 9am start.
What the heck?!
Yeah, it's stupid daylight savings time. You have to download a patch from microsoft to fix it, can do it straight to the phone by going to www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile and hit the Update option. I don't really understand why it couldn't just be automatically sent thru the Windows Update option under Settings...talk about a frustrating issue though!
now the question is will it work with 6.1
I saw this coming days ahead because of my scheduling :S...
Anyways, what fixed for me was just fixing the time on my Kaiser, all but one (?) appointments switched back to the original time automatically. No extra cabs or tweaks.
Good luck with that.
I've tried running that patch, and after installing the cab, it resets the Tilt, and then when it comes back everything is still the same. I've tried switching to a different timezone, and then back (per the advice in the another thread) to no avail.
Jimmyv - what do you mean you "fixed" the time?
Jay, please keep us updated as to what you're finding out.

Keep in mind this is not, nor should it be considered, a permanent fix. I don't know what long-term problems this could cause, but I'll tell you how I got it to work for me.
1. (Not sure if this is needed, because it didn't seem to change anything) Install the 2008 DST update from Microsoft.
2. Make sure all your appointments are still set to their original times (As in, you didn't change the original hour so that it'd remind you with it's skewed view of reality )
2a. (You may not have to do this) Under the Phone options dialog (Settings -> Personal -> Phone), go to the 'Time Zones' tab, and uncheck 'Automatic change time zone and clock'.
3. Go to the clock settings dialog (Settings -> System -> Clock & Alarms) Set the time zone to the one an hour behind you (-6 to -7 is what I did)
4. Set the time, manually, an hour ahead. (In the system clock dialog, there are two options for time: Time zone, and time. Set the time zone an hour behind, then set the actual time an hour ahead.)
5. Enjoy. Your appointments should now be okay.
I do hope someone figures out what's really causing this, though, because I'm not keen on changing the time zone every time DST comes into effect.
--------
AT&T Tilt, running Custel 2.1 AT&T Chopped and Screwed with Custel Touch Fix.
Mine works fine.
Your time is pulled off the network. I don't see how this could cause a problem.
YEa... had this problem myself. Figured it was a good time to hard reset and reinstall since I had a crapload of stuff I didn't use anymore.

A hard reset wouldn't be bad, but I really don't want to re-enter all of my appointments. Otherwise I could fix it by just deleting all the appointments and re-entering them.

I think the problem is that 2 things are trying to do the same thing. The network is trying to adjust for DST and windows is trying to do it too. I wish there was a way to just turn off DST and let the phone manage the time.

I just had a brainstorm! I'm in the eastern time zone. (GMT -5) Indiana does not participate in DST. I switched my time zone to GMT-5 Indiana, and all my appointments are correct now. I'm leaving autoupdate time on the phone, so this should take care of itself, and the phone will manage the time changes.
-Jay
I just realized you do have to turn autoupdate time off to use my earlier method. Futhermore, due to the same problem, I'm not sure you're new method will work forever. The reason I had to turn autoupdate time off was because the network told my phone it was -not- in the -7 time zone. I think, after a little bit of time, it will tell you're phone it's not in Indiana and you'll be stuck with the same problem all over again. x.x I'm going to look at the registry for the clock/calendar integration and see if I can't find some hidden setting that'll stop the clock from messing with the appointments. I'm pretty new to this though, so don't bet on my finding something that'll work. Any help from someone smarter would be very much appreciated. ;D
Edit: Sadly, the only thing I could find that looks anywhere close to something in relation to this is the value TimeZoneInformation in HKLM\Time. I can't figure out how I'm supposed to edit that so that changing the time zone doesn't touch the appointments, though. I'm not even convinced it's possible. Anyone else know any registry values that might relate to this problem? I'm going to try and decompile the MS patch next to see if I can find any hints with what they did.. Even if it didn't work.

[Q] phone crashes every night

Hi all,
for the last 5 or 6 days, my phone has crashed every single night. :-(
When I go to bed, I just leave it on the table, not charging, but with enough battery left to easily last for the night. The next morning, the phone is switched off and I cannot switch it back on, because the battery is completey drained.
When I charge and then turn the phone back on, it has done a "partial reset", meaning that all settings are back to factory defaults, contacts are gone, ... All accounts, apps, ... are still there, though. The worst part is that I cannot receive calls anymore either, in this case. Callers are immediately redirected to my mailbox, even though the phone has a signal and I can make outgoing calls without problems. The only way to fix this is a factory reset.
The next night, the same happens again.
Has anybody had a similar problem? Does anybody have an idea how to fix it?
Thanks and regards,
Andy

I am still using the stock Froyo ROM that the phone came with. The phone is rooted and I've installed a SpeedMod Kernel. However, both (rooting and new kernel) have happened months ago, so I doubt that they have anything to do with the problem.
(partial) solution found
Since a phone that crashes every night, using all settings in the process, is fairly useless, I decided that I might just as well trash it completely by trying (and maybe failling ) to install a custom firmware. So I downloaded Darky 10.1 and thanks to an excellent installation guide, I actually managed to install it.
Since then, my phone does no longer crash every night - it now reboots a couple of times a day The good thing is, though that after the reboot, the phone is back "in action" after maybe two minutes and it does not lose any data, setting or anything. So, it's not ideal, but much better than before ...
I was going to recommend trying a new ROM, but I found that as a workaround rather than a solution to your problem.
Did you perform a wipe or no-wipe install?

As I had pointed out in my first post, the crash that happens every night breaks something so that I can no longer receive calls and have to do a factory reset. Thus, the phone was basically wiped, already, before I did the installation and I then did a no-wipe install.
You are right, of course that this is more of a work around than a solution, but since I was thinking about putting on a new ROM for a while, already, anyways, it is a fairly good work around for me - and I really like Gingerbread and DarkyROM so far.

[Q] Mobile data notification constantly on top of the stack

Hello guys,
i've been following your forum for quite some time and it's been helpful for me so far, but two or three days ago i came across a problem, which i cannot solve and didn't find anything about it here or on the web, so i decided to register.
I'm a owner of Xperia Z, Android 4.1.2, 10.1.A.1.350, not rooted. Couple of days ago there were some updates available, some not important app like Xperialink or something, and since that day the "mobile data tuned off" notification keeps popping up on top of the stack in the notification bar and it is freaking annoying. Usually on top i had an email with part of it that i could already see, or a missed call with the icons "call back" and "send a message" what was really usefull, but now, because of this data transfer notification, nothing like this is showing (check the attached screenshot). The "clear" option does not work for this notifaction, neither can it be swiped away. Has anyone else stumbled upon this problem and maybe solved it?
Thanks for your time and any useful advices in advance
Szymon
Dang, really no one? :|
maybe you should click 4th icon from left side and it might be gone ^^
I don't speak Polish, but if I'm not mistaken the message says "Mobile data disabled".
This could be because you've switched off mobile data manually from the quick settings, or because in Power management settings you have "Low battery mode" enabled and one of the options it to turn mobile data off. Turn off Low battery mode or uncheck "Mobile data off" and you should be sorted.

Yes Sushifiend, didn't know yesterday how it was called in english. I've checked what you wrote and it wasn't that, anyways i got low battery mode set to kick in when there is only 5% battery power left, so this couldn't be it. :|
Thanks for trying to help, but yesterday i even did a "back to factory settings" and after that and installing all the updates this problem returned...
Any other ideas or maybe someone else had this and managed to fix it?

I have had a similar issue, and wasn't related to any power save options ticked, but connection drop outs on my phone. It hasn't happened now for a while when I manually went in and selected my operator and re downloaded the internet/mms configuration. Although this phones radio is a bit flakey with drop outs still
