[Q] Need a new mp3 player, suggestions? - Off-topic

At the moment i have a SanDisk Sansa Clip+ and im looking for an upgrade.
Something under £90.
Any ideas?
Thanks

I don't know if it's just me, but I prefer using my phone as my primary music player as I would want to have everything integrated into one device (easier to carry). Do you people find any appreciable difference in music quality between a dedicated MP3 player vs inbuilt-music player on the phone?

I prefer a separate device, as then your still have a full battery on your phone.
And the quality is going to be better because it has one function, to play music.

The Cowon J3 has (from what I have heard) a simply AWESOME battery life and great music quality. Plays almost any file too!
Cannot post outside links yet, so you have to google

My battery life is good enough I can listen to music for about 10hrs and still have 40% left. Also with the equalizer options in gingerbread the sound quality is perfect

[Q] Music player doesnt work after battery reaches 10%

I dont Know if this is a standard android thing or some dumb samsung thing, but why does the music player stop after the battery drains to 10%. It's my phone if i want to kill it using music then so be it. WTF
i noticed a similar dilemma with the camera :\
not sure of the percentage though...
I Havent try'd the camera that low yet. I understand that those things may take more power but if im choosing to use it then it's my fault if my phone dies.
Video player was the same way, but i could play youtube videos until it died.
Why would you want to use the music app at that low of battery? Not to be a **** but that's why its called a smartphone

Because it's MY phone and I want to do what I want to with it. If I'm at home listening to music idc if it dies. I wouldn't use it if I needed the phone to last that bad
Well I hope to see a fix for it, although its not a big deal.

There probably is a fairly simple work around.
I don't know of one yet, but I'd believe that there is.
I feel the same way, its my phone, I want to do that. I sacrifice the 2% that it might take to snap 1 photo.
Plus, I'd prefer if it were just a warning rather than a 'kill-app'
Use non-stock apps.
Have not tried it with camera, but music and video players that aren't stock don't give that message. I recommend mVideoPlayer and Doubletwist for video and music respectively. Both free. Rockplayer is another popular one for video.

SRS Enhancement

So I'm kind of a big drum and bass fan, my cars kitted out with a quality VIBE sound system and sound quality means alot to me. I just plugged in my skullcandys to my phone, started streaming some songs through Zune. I then turned on SRS in the sound enhancer and OH MY GOD! The sound quality is AMAZING! I never experienced anything like this on my iPod. I will most deffinately by purchasing my Zune pass once the trial runs out!
SRS really does kick out the bass.
Not suitable for all music but when you want to melt your brain it's amazing.
just remember using any type of sound processing consumes battery life. the more aggressive the sound enhancement the worse the hit on battery life. this is more so for mobile than it is for other cpus. it comes down really to instruction set built into the cpu, and how optimized they are
can anybody tell me what the name of the application is and where on the fone i can find..Thanks

the Sound Enchancer app can be found in the marketplace under HTC Apps.
Yeah the battery life isn't to good. I'm considering getting another battery or waiting for someone to make a legit 1500mAh battery
good taste in music, noticed the same litening to Logan D
This is probably just me but I have no battery complaints. I have an hour commute to work; So I literally stream about 2 hours at least. I surf the net when i can. text a lot (by my standards about 30 - 40 on average). Watch podcasts that i've downloaded via Zune.
In essence from 6am when I unplug the phone till about midnight when I plug it back to charge I'm good. Compared to my HD2 I would have been out of juice with just 2 hrs of slacker only.
Yea...I am a great DnB and DUbstep lover myself!! SRS DOES make a lot of difference!!

[Q] How can one improve .MKV video playback on galaxy mini

Hey guys, appreciate the work you guys have done here. Am running stock rom on my galaxy mini, still new to android after ages spent as a wm6.5 lurky hence taking my time before trying to go gingerbread. I have tried mx player, mobo player, qq player rockplayer yet I still can't get •Mkv clips to play well. Video is always choppy though sound is fine, in wm apps had the option to reduce quality unlike in android. Any ideas on how I could improve playback?
yes, the only solution for your problem is buying an upgrade phone.
The Adreno 200 GPU and the 600MHZ CPU is not up to the task of playing any file with higher resolution than 480p. Maybe some MPEG4 files, but H.264 not possible.
MX Player is one of the best players in terms of hw acceleration. If this can't handle well, you are out of luck.

Hmmm bummer, guess I'll start eyeing the galaxy S soon, this happens to be my first crack at android already am suffering from the smartphone upgrade fever! That voice in my head that keeps telling me to upgrade just won't let up! With that said the galaxy mini is still quite cool, for a starter.
Well then whats the max recommended benchmark video resolution I should try to play? I remember having issues with an .mkv 480p big bang episode. whats the highest resolution any of you have played with reasonable results?
You can install tweaked chainfire drivers along with overclocked kernel to see if its working
i think if you oc it will work much more smoother
What is the resolution of the videos ur trying to play?
Convert them 240x320 and try.
This works best for me..though I don't remember how well.mkv plays but I tried various formats in this res a long time back and they all seemed to play well.
Try on both mobo and Qq...
Hmm I'll give Mx a try.
---edit----
Damn this thread is months old!
Haha dont worry about it being a month old, we still read it. Converting videos sounds tideous

ya but that is the best way to get most of the hdvideos to work, afaik.
i use total video converter.
cannot expect a 720 or a 1080p to play on mini without down converting it
btw ya i've had a lil trouble with .mkv, i prefer avi.
.avi always delivers in my mini, its my preferred format, had a chance to fiddle with a pals galaxy s and galaxy s2 and damn I was so freaking blown out of the water! Right now am thinking upgrade, just as soon as I rob a bank to afford one! just rooted galaxy mini, was considering overclock options but am not sure that would do much improvements. Oh and what about CHAINFIRE3D? Do you guys think it can enable smoother mkv play on mx video player or does it only work for games?
Sent from my GT-S5570 using XDA App
I think Cf3d works only with games.
Sent from my GT-S5570 using Tapatalk
Is that an expert opinion or an educated guess?
Sent from my GT-S5570 using XDA App
I'm not sure abt cf3d cuz it has lots of options..and if u use it properly(knowing what does wat),it mite have some effect.
head over to that thread.
I actually have chainfire installed, just freaked out by the warning it gave just before I install the openGL driver so am still growing a pair before activating it . Read the forum and pretty much still I can't tell heads or tails about what it really does. And also from the looks of things it seems to be complimented better by overclocking abilities on your phone. I have been using stock froyo for a while and now am feeling ready to graduate to the big boys league, just can't decide yet between going for a stock gingerbread rom or cyanogen rom. As time goes am sure more solutions will come out to tackle this problem coz .mkv is a pretty important format these days especially in phones coz of its small storage size requirements, wish android and samsung had taken more time to make it more compatible with their hardware and software respectively

battery life and music playtime

i am planing to buy the xperia z but i have a few questions....
how long would the battery last with heavy usage of music playing (2-4hr/day) and browsing the internet (wifi or 3g) ????
and how about the loud speaker quality i 've read in a few reviews that the loudspeaker quality is not that great
thanks

Bro, you can chk it on this website of GSM Arena. A gd test is done abt the battery life an almost all aspect of the phone.

If you like my answer plz press Thanks.
thx bro...but it just mentions the audio quality and the battery performance regarding video and web browsing but nothing about music
I am also use XZ to listen to music, but I don't have specific battry percentage to tell you.
I recently start using a Bluetooth headset and the phone still perform very well.
Hopefully, I will test it today.

I milk cows and use my phone to play music, in the morning 4.30am to 8.30am and in the afternoon 2:15pm to 5pm...i dont have to charge it all day, but i dont use it alot at work for internet and stuff, just average numer of calls and texts...probably left with about roughly 20 - 30 % bttery at the end of the day
Yep, listening to music doesn't drain a lot of juice One hour and hasn't even moved past 100%. But web broswing on any android device sucks the battery, screen is the biggest culprit on my phone for battery usage

First off, the speakers suck, but if you were going to listen to music through the speakers then you're just an idiot just saying (No offense).
On the other hand the music quality through head/earphones is really superb and is in my opinion the best you can get (When it comes to phones.) I don't know how long the battery would last, but it shouldn't be a problem at all to use the phone with 1 charge per day.

Thank you guys for all your helpfull replies.... I really appreciate it

Ringtones shouldn't be a problem at all.
But for example music will suck (It will on all phones anyways) because for example you won't hear any bass.
So I measure battery consumption today
I heard music using regular headset for one hour and 20min.
And that consumed 7% approximately with stamina mode is on.

Music Players/Which Do You Use?

What music player do y'all use? As far as battery, UI, sound. I have ran into big battery issues with the VS980 in regards to listening to music on my phone while at work... I have used almost every Rom/kernel/V4A/Music player combo possible and no matter what I just want to smash my phone by the end of the day... Any feedback would be appreciated.

I use Google Play Music and Dsub to stream from my Subsonic server in my house. Both actively download in the background the way I use them. I have Viper4Android for sound on top of that, using the middle quality setting.
Poweramp and V4A...Poweramp doesn't drain my battery much but your mileage may vary...

Neutron and v4a. On average I say I listen to about an hour/day and get good battery life. I use super audio with v4a. But like dawg said above, mileage varies.
:good::highfive: JC's CM11, PowerAmp, Viper4A, 24 bit 96khz hi-rez files, S11 Flex headset!! Headset good for about 6 hours at work, device can go all day thru preamp on stereo, do use Juice Defender on device!! :highfive::good:
I use Rocket Player, but not V4A. The free version has all the features I need, and more.

Thanks for the input! I figured out that its a huge DT2W issue as well, Poweramp and V4A seemed to work well while testing last night
I use Google Play Music and my battery lasts all day. I listen to music in the car and while at work.

Google Music on JackpotClavin's CM11 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2702958). That ROM is the same as the official CM but modified for 24A firmware (and maybe 25A). It's the latest CM code with absolutely NO SODs.
