If you're comfortable with flashing then I would, if not then probably no.

should you rom?
if you have to ask....
NO.
you should read.
then decide for yourself.
and know what you are doing before you are the 4th person in 24 hours to PERMANENTLY brick thier phone.
rom? no.... not yet at least...

I absolutely agree with this answer. If you are thinking of flashing a ROM, what is the reason you are thinking about doing it? If you decide to go for it, then absolutely make sure you know completely what you are doing by reading as much as you can. Research first will save grief and frustration later. Let's just say I learned that the hard way. The only time I had any issues was when I didn't follow this advice.
Good luck with whichever way you decide to go.

Just take time to read and understand the while process before you start flashing. DO NOT try and figure out stuff as you go, as that is how stupid mistakes are made and you mess up your phone.
Check to make sure the 3 button combo for recovery and download modes are working, and just know and follow the steps laid out in the many tutorials you can find here on xda. If you can follow directions at all, your phone will soon be doing sweet ****, and you will probably become addicted to flashing and trying new things.
I am not all that knowledgeable about how stuff works, so I never try and modify stuff that hasn't been tried and tested by somebody else, and I've never run into any serious problems. I've flashed too many roms to remember, and never screwed up my phone beyond a simple fix, all thanks to a little careful reading.
Once you flash your first rom successfully, the process is simple and fun. Just make sure and read the thread for each rom you want to try carefully so that you know of all possible issues, and you shouldn't have any problems.

Make sure you know all the worst things that can happen. Not to scare you from doing it. On the contrary, once you know what's the worst, and you know how to fix it or prevent it, you're good to go.
Like everyone here says (because it's true) READ everything. Read the WHOLE OPs and multiple pages of everything. If someone had problem with something, they probably already mentioned it somewhere in the 23482 pages (it sucks, but you rather spend some time reading than have a dead phone).
At first everything will be uncertain (first time watching the bar go across the download mode screen when flashing from Odin) and sometimes you'll feel like you've bricked your phone. Just read the threads about ACTUAL bricked phones to know what NOT to do.
Actually, what I suggest is to find a rom that you like, but more importantly has REALLY thorough documentation about how to install. Once you do it a couple of times it'll be smooth sailing from there, and you'll be able to work with any kind of rom easily (terminology and stuff becomes more familiar too).

So you ask the same question in a different format. Tell us that you at least read some of the replies above. Right?
Talk to people that have rommed (if that's a word. If not, then Copyright bdgiese90 2011). If they know your phone well and can help if you have questions beyond what is answered in OP's, then you can make a choice from that too. But seriously. Do your reading first. Installing a ROM isn't something other people decide for you.
And one more thing. Don't ask the same question again with different wording. Read what all of these intelligent people are posting to you. Believe it or not, they ARE helpful

Is there a working CyanogenMod rom for the facsinate, I've read some post but just want a yes or no answer please?
Not totally working.
and.... wrong section.
go look at the cm7 thread in the development section. it makes it very clear what is working and what isnt.
Short answer: A lot of stuff in CM7 works. Somethings such as MMS do not. Whether you consider that build working depends on your needs.
Now, I don't say this to be mean. I say this to prevent you from numerous headaches and issues.
Basic reading comprehension and a willingness to search and research independently are required if you are going to successfully flash new software on your phone. That is to say little about bleeding edge Cyanogen which has its own set of eccentricities currently. If you don't have the time or patience to have those qualities then you should skip this process because you WILL end up with a "brick".
Again, I don't say this to be mean or cold-hearted. It is simply fact that if you aren't willing to invest the time to be painstaking in your steps and research that you will end up with a brick and very unhappy. Sorry to be a downer.

Hate to be a downer but its not really any different than installing another rom. Not that doing your own research is a bad thing but you seem like you're trying to frighten people. This phone does not brick easily. The only difference here with cm7 is that you have to odin to get off it.
Sent from my kang banged fascinate, bro.
A person who can't take 30 seconds and read the first post in either of the two cyanogenmod threads and has to ask needs a dose of reality.
And yes, the phone is quite recoverable but only if you know what you are doing. We have seen enough of the "i've spent the last 12 hours trying to recover my phone because I flashed xyz incorrectly" to warrant some caution.

Why so grouchy?
At least the question wasn't posted in the Dev forum.

That is where the info for the closest-to-pure CM7 ROM there is on the site.
WARNING: If you don't like it or it happens to brick your phone, you will need odin and a good working image to go back to. These are available on the site. I strongly recommend you find them and familiarize yourself on the how-to of those before embarking down the road of CM7.
I ran TestBuild2 from the above link for sever days. It is nice but has too many stability defects to be reasonable for me because I use my phone for work.

Another Fascinating post by my XDA app...
Hey gsuys i was wondering if anyone knows a video on youtube that shows exactly installing a Tom? Also can someone please tell me what a bootloader and a kernel is? I've been researching but i can't find anything since im a noob..
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA Premium App
I think you mean a ROM. Bootloaders are files which load other data and programs which are then executed from RAM. Often, multiple-stage boot loaders are used, during which several programs of increasing complexity sequentially load one after the other in a process of chain loading.
As far as Android is concerned, the kernel file is related to threading and memory management. It's sort of the map of the infrastructure that helps the other programs when and how to act and manage the resources.
For your own sake, take a week or two to do some reading and get familiar with the terminology, software, and processes involved with flashing a ROM. I can promise you that without some basic slef-taught information, you will end up bricking the hardware 75% of the time. Get to understand how the phone works and why other people have problems, and how they solved them. Don't make mistakes that others have made when the information on how to avoid it is here in the forums.
Many people are too impatient or uninterested in how these phones work to do the due diligence. You can find ROM flashing guides, but without some basic knowledge, if something goes wrong you will find yourself in panic mode. Just look through these forums. Half of them start with 'HELP!' or 'Phone Bricked'. Don't be one of them. Arm yourself with some information and you will soon be solving your own problems, and possibly helping others.
Good luck and have fun. The Captivate is one of the most moddable smartphones out there, you have already made a good decision. Don't stop now!

When I flashed my first ROM, I had read quite a bit on here, but I watched one of Josh's videos and paused at about every step! Bottom line here is, everyone is different and some people are "visual" learners. Having said that, I agree whole heartedly with the "read twice flash once" (then follow a vid if ya have to) mentality.
Of course, the videos are very good and simplify things immensely. However, what the videos do not show you often times is how to avoid mistakes and errors and how to fix them if you make them. This is why it is always a good idea to read through the thread of the kernel or ROM or what have you to see what has gone wrong for others. It can seem daunting to try to read through a 20+ page thread, which may take an hour, but that hour might save you 4 or more hours while trying to recover from a brick or failed flash. Add to that some peace of mind because perhaps you've seen or read about the same issue and can do some problem solving.
Both are helpful, but reading threads is essential.

Perhaps it's not that complicated, but it took me a while to get the gall to upgrade and stay upgraded. I read and reread everything a thousand times over, and it took me a long time even after I fully understood the pros/cons of every upgrade method and the mechanics of the "bug." I just say this because I understand the fear. Even now, though my mind is fully convinced I am safe in LQ2 wth Hardcore's kernel, I still have an irrational fear of wiping or restoring NAND backups. I think it's very human to be afraid of things one disbelieves in. An ominously dark room can still scare the most rational of adults.
But that said, my advice is the same as the member wrote above. As there is a wealth of information on this forum regarding the issue, the safest you can be is by becoming knowledgeable of not only "safe methods" of upgrading, but by coming to understand why one kernel is safe and another is not. You could pay someone to walk you through the upgrade process, but if you decide to continue modding your Note, you might inadvertently put yourself in a bind by thinking you've "arrived" at safety indefinitely.
Of course, it's up to you. Go ahead and Skype with someone if that makes you feel secure. But unless you understand exactly what you're doing, you might want to Skype with someone knowledgeable every time you flash and use another kernel thereafter.

i read alot on the forum and its getting more and more messy here
when i look at the rom section for instance the Galaxy note
i see warnings , roms but i dont see any safe sign on the postings and if there are any safe sings then they must be better displayed
to me its starting to look like its very unsafe to download and flash a rom from this site
and i must say i think thats a shame i always enjoyed it to flash roms from here on my phone's
so maybe its time for the owners and developpers to start thinking about safety and better guides on how to flash
but thats my 2 cent about this and maybe there are more people who have the same feeling

The warnings are for noons that don't like to read before doing things, so the developers have to put this big warnings to not be blamed for any problem, and after this warnings, we see a lot of people that brick there phones every day bec. Of not reading carefully

yeah, its what you call increasing chaos, one of the laws of nature.
what further enhances it in my opinion is: unclear/unuser friendly product to begin with. Humans ever in creasing spoiledness due to the service oriented culture/industries, people expect to be guided by hand, and when its more complicated they become lazy, so lazyness as much to.
Noobs clutter because they dont read/research but blindly ask. I wonder what would happen if they buy microwave and how they figure out how to operate it. Ah well, the warning signs not to put living things in are needed, and even with the signs people are dumb enought to try it.

So if you did some searching your questions would be answered. Prior ask this question everyday You need to use SlapMyMoto to root your phone
You need to download rsd lite and the at&t 4.2.2 camera update and flash your phone back to 4.2.2 then follow the guide

Totally agree with that. Guys make posts or start threads asking something that even a quick Google search will give them an answer to in 30 seconds.....But they ask instead and wait hours sometimes for an answer. I occasionally comment to them on this....But usually I just ignore the question. Again, one reason why they wait hours for an answer.
I firmly believe if someone is going to mess around with their expensive phone, they should read read read....and search for answers and eventually learn how all this stuff works. Not just blindly follow what people tell them to do. Not all advice is good advice either. Lol
If you don't learn about this stuff on your own guys....your risk of bricking your device will be much higher.
Lecture over.

i mean. i was "overwhelmed" i guess when i first got into messing around with my phone. But it was only overwhelming because i knew what i wanted to do and wanted to do it as fast as possible without understanding anything. If you just read for 5 hours instead of 30 minutes then it isn't overwhelming at all. It just takes longer than most people expect to understand everything they are doing. So they don't take the time. End up running commands and doing things they think some post told to do somewhere without any idea of what they are doing and boinking their phone up. If instead when they came across something they weren't sure what it was and then took time to read/research what it actually was, they wouldn't feel overwhelmed anymore.
Overwhelming comes from taking tiny tid bits of info and trying to make them make sense together. If you read a ton, its not overwhelming to make large tid bits of information you have accumulated make sense together. IMHO.
I didn't do it the way i just described but i also spent days on end trying to unbrick my phones. I then had to spend countless hours actually understanding what i just did so that i can manually fix them. Rsdlite and toolkits are cool and all, but they allow people with little experience to get into trouble where they need lots of experience to get out of that trouble. Also considering everyone that knows what is going on just says read read read and it isnt overwhelming anymore, they are probably spot on (wwhether they followed that process or not).
