Dead Tab - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Yesterday I was playing a game and the Tab froze and then rebooted. On rebooting the tab would get as far as the pulsing Samsung then it would vibrate and reboot. It would stay in this cycle indefinately. I switched the tab off, left it off while I went out (2/3 hours) and tried again when I returned, still the same.
I left the tab on charge overnight. When I tried again this morning the Tab will now not even switch on.
The tab is completely stock, no custom roms, no root.
Please help because at the moment I have a £400 paper weight!

Probably you'll have to flash stock ROM or get the tab back to Samsung. If your data is on SD card, you're good.

Can you try to hold the power button on for 10 secs and see if anything happen?
If not, you can try holding the power button on while pressing on the volume up button, and see if the recovery mode appear. Once you are in, it should be safe.

Hi Henry, I held the power on for 10 secs and the tab did indeed power on, however it still does the same, vibrates at the pulsing samsung and reboots.
I also tried the volume up and power which indeed does go into the recovery mode, however, I tried clearing the cache which does nothing, just sits on the triangle screen and never moves on. I also tried the wipe data/ factory reset and it does the same, sits on the triangle and never moves on ( I left both for around 30 mins).
I'm lost what to do now....

I sorted it. I went back into recovery mode and selected wipe data\ factory reset and just kept pressing the home button until it wiped. It the rebooted and booted just fine

[Q] HELP failed 2.2 update, phone not coming on

Hi
I have just tried to update to 2.2, i updated Kies first, connected my phone, it came back saying update available, fully charged battery, all seemed to go ok, phone rebooted, but when coming back up I get the logo, and the start up music, then it vibrates a bit the keys on bottom left and right are lit up, screen black and doesn't seem to do anything.
I have removed battery, have tried 3 button restore (no effect) it just keeps vibrating every min or so.
holding the power button restarts it, thats about all i can get it to do.
Have I ruined the phone?? please help.

First question... Did you have a lagfix on the phone before you tried to update it?
Second question... If you answered yes to question one... Did you remove / disable the lagfix before you flashed through Kies?
i had lag fix and was rooted, i plugged it in to laptop and it was recognised and said update 2.2 available, so i thought that was ok.
Now it is as i describe as above, i get battery logo if i plug into laptop, bottom left and right keys are lit but don't do anything, screen is black and vibrates every couple of minutes, if i hold power button get the GT galaxy s screen then the music, then the S galaxys screen which goes black with the two keys lit, if i press power button again it goes off and to the battery logo again.
Cannot get odin or kies to recognise phone plugged in, or get it into recovery or download mode

you didn't answer the question but I will assume that you were using a lagfix but did not disable it before you tried to update you phone.
try removing the battery for a few minutes and try going to download mode (hold vol down + home + power)
Go into recovery mode (vol up + home + power 'till screen switches on) and select the delete data/cache (?) option with the volume keys, using the middle button to confirm. Your phone will work, but unfortunately, you'll loose all your app/settings =/
Should have un-lagfixed before updating :-s
let us know if Rawat's way worked for you.
I had disabled my lagfix too when updating to doc jk3 using cwm and same thing happened to me.
Only way i fixed it was to flash my phone's stock rom, jh2 2.1 using odin3 v1.3 and the firmware from samfirmware. (pda only, no pit, no repartition)
then i upgraded to froyo again and it worked.

[Q] Have I permanently damaged my phone?

I just attempted to root my Galaxy Note using the instructions found on the development forum and I thought everything went well. Now, however, once the phone starts it wont turn on again - if I press the power button the screen back light comes on but thats it. I have to remove the battery to restart it, but then the same thing happens again. Any idea how to fix this?
Will it go into download mode if so flash a stock rom with odin

Power off your phone - take out your battery if necessary and wait about a minute, then put it back in.
Press volume up + home + power and hold, see if you can get into Recovery.
If you can, wipe cache, dalvik and do a factory reset.
Try to reboot.

I did all that and everything went through, same problem though after reboot - once the screen turns off, hitting the power button only makes the back light go on and the screen itself doesnt seem to turn on. The phone seems to function "as normal" - it even reboots fine - until I have to turn the screen on using the power button after initially booting it up.

If that's still the case, I'd try to boot into download mode and flash a stock rom (as was suggested above).

[Q] Galaxy S3 GT-I9305 Boot loop problem.

Hi all.
So my girlfriends S3 started something weird this morning.
Last night the battery ran flat, so obviously it was put on to charge. The phone was off while charging, but, instead of the constant icon of a battery charging, the icon would come up and disappear, and reappear, and never become fuller.
When we tried to start it up this morning, the Samsung GT-I9305 screen would come on, and then just disappear and reappear, same as the battery icon.
The phone has not been rooted, no custom roms have ever been attempted, it is as stock as the day we opened the box.
First we tried leaving the battery out for about 30 mins, same would still happen.
Then I removed toe sd and sim card, removed the battery, and tried starting with and without the sim card. The sd card has not been put back. Same thing would still happen.
After some searching, I tried getting into recovery mode by pressing and holding power, volume up and the home key. This worked once, where I chose the restart device option first, but since then I cannot get the recovery mode back again.
I read something about a 'safe mode' by pressing power, home and volume down. This gets me to a screen where I am asked if I want to continue, by pressing the volume up key, but no matter what I press, the device just goes back to the GT-I9305 screen looping.
I wonder if maybe trying a different battery would help?
Any other suggestions on how I could factory reset the device?

Randomly will not work. Black screen after boot, phone really hot.

Phone is completely stock. Haven't messed with it at all. My phone died around 5% battery left so I went to put it on charger. Charged it up for like 20 minutes while I watched a movie, and i went to turn it on and it was really hot. It booted up still but whenever it was done booting, the screen just went black. Nothing would work. If i hold power button down, the power down option appears and it works to shut it off. If i shake it, the camera comes up but I cannot take a picture or do anything. Any idea? I also tried to reboot into recovery and couldn't . I dont know if im not pressing the correct buttons so if you know the correct way please let me know.

To get into fastboot mode you have to turn the phone off. Hold the power and volume down buttons for about 10 seconds then release just the power button.
As far as a solution, this issue has happened before. Everybody says that it happens when their battery dies. I am sorry to say that the only solution that works is a factory reset which erases the data partition on the phone.

Phone stuck on boot loop and won't turn on

Phone got frozen while in Messenger, suddenly turned off and now it's stuck on boot loop. Holding volume down and power button does nothing, keeps it on boot loop. When I put it on charging, it heats up, but the charging logo does not show.
Anyone got any clue what might be the problem or how to solve it?
did you receive any pictures via messenger ? that used to be a thing that messed up phones because of one colour outside most phones RGB range.
a bootloop is a cycle, catch it at the right time and you can boot into recovery to clear cache and dalvik.
remember recovery and download mode need the cable plugged into a USB device to nowadays.
the instant the screen goes off hold volume up and power and then plug the cable into the phone (the other end already being in the PC).
if you did receive a file before your problem that'll still be there and the problem might persist. you might need to boot up into safe mode and delete something.
The phone got frozen at the main screen of Messenger, haven't received any messages or pics.
The thing I haven't mentioned but dk if it means anything, sometimes it gets to the Samsung logo, but then it goes off and turns back on.
Tried to hold volume up and power button couple of times, sometimes it would do a strong vibration and then do nothing, but I'll keep on trying.
Thanks for ur help

don't forget the USB cable, you can't manually boot recovery without it.

if you don't mind losing messages next time you could try clearing data on the messages app. you'd need to be pretty quick by the sound of it.
