location of the backup zune makes during updates - HD7 General

is there anyway to locate n delete the files because its taking up a lot of memory on my laptop

Yep
I have windows 7 so it will be the same on Vista and similar on XP.
Win7/Vista:
C:\Users\Username you did the backup on\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Phone Update - look for big folder but all can go TBH. Obviously if your windows is on other drive then C look there.
Windows XP it will be something in line off:
C:\Documents and Settings\Username you did the backup on\Application Data\Local\Microsoft\Windows Phone Update

thanks bro i was able to find it

leave the exe on your xp machine. plug your phone in, then run the app. it should go through a short install. then when the "remove" app screen pops up, just disregard it. Some times you need to goto your phone and continue an installation process, then you should be done.
where does it put it on my phone when it install it ? i cannot ever find it any where this has been driving me crazy

Why don't you do a search or google first?
Delete the PC files
I use XP64, and have experienced this a few times when I've moved pictures out of the backup file on the computer. The fastest way to resolve this is to delete the entire file structure backing up your phone from your PC. If your phone is named "TOM," then there's a whole file structure backing up the phone. If you are okay with deleting the mirror files from your computer, you should. Then when you go to Sync, activesync won't see it, and it'll create a new one. Its a sledgehammer solution, but it works.

Win7 upgrade after HDD upgrade?

I installed a new 120 GB hard drive with no problems. I already purchased a copy of Windows 7 HP not Pro or Ultimate. Should have but didn't, too late. Anyway, I did the upgrade and now can't get the shift to recognize my external DVD drive as a bootable source. What do I do now. Is it possible to take a DVD copy of Win 7 and put it on a USB drive and create an iso file? Is there another way to get my shift to boot from a DVD that I am not aware of. I only get the option of booting from the new hard drive which is blank. I really don't want to have to buy another copy of Win 7 as a download. Is there a link to still download the Win 7 rc file? Any help would be great.
Alright, got windows 7 mounted to a usb drive and installed on the Shift but now I can't seem to get any of the drivers to install. I just get a error message about not being able to open the zip file.
are you in windows 7 ?
If you are in Windows 7, and you copied the drivers from HTC over to your device, copy them again from your device to another folder on your device, then start driver install.
Copying files from a remote source often blocks the files.
Then, if you are in Windows 7, there's a particular order to install the drivers, i gather you have discovered this yourself already.
Not being able to open a zip file. Try unzipping all the drivers on another computer then and copy them to your shift, then move them to any other directory on your shift (to release the files)
Windows 7 really works like a charm on the Shift. I don't know if your version has AERO on it, I hope so as even with aero it's really fast.
Yes, I finally figured that out. Unzip them first then install them. Sometimes I can't see the forest for the trees. I was then having problems with wifi, 3g and bluetooth. I accidentally tried to install the control center drivers with the compatibility mode set to xp accidentally. Everything is working great now. Sometimes I need to slow down a little.

Wanting to upgrade to Windows 7...

So guys I'm really getting sick of using Windows XP and want to upgrade to Windows 7.
I'm just wondering how the best way to go about it after I've got the ISO burned or whatever, like how to copy my files etc. without any corruption. Also W7 will work with any hardware if I'm correct so it won't matter that I have outdated hardware?
Basically, can anyone give me a step-to-step guide on how to upgrade from scratch.
Any help appreciated guys.
I think when you insert the disk with windows running you'll have an upgrade option which will backup everything, install the new OS, then put back everything the way they were before (by everything I mean, registry entries, documents, user settings...)
or you can boot from the disk and choose click the upgrade button.
It's an easy process, but it took me a few hours to upgrade from windows vista to 7

actually the upgrade option is only if your on vista, best thing to do is backup your files to a external hdd and start fresh
Yep. Back up your files to an external drive, insert disk, boot from CD, once you get to the drive selection menu, select the drive, drive options and format. This will clear your HD, and give you a fresh install. Also make sure you can find all the drivers for 7, and if you don't want to pay for 7, find a backup of an OEM Win 7 disk, and install with that. Might need to update your BIOS to 2.1, but that isn't always the case.
Where are the files I should be backing up? Do any files need to be backed up in like sys32 or anything or just files like music, pictures, programs etc.? Is there a way I can backup program data too? The likes of favourites and bookmarks for chrome etc.
How do I go about checking/updating my BIOS?
If you're going 32-bit to 32-bit you can put the 7 install on the same partition as the xp install, but you won't have any registry keys from XP.
As for backup, music, photos etc. And usually you can find the update on the manufacturers website, it's a regular install. What MB to you have?
Back online, some editions done.
There is always easy transfer. RUN THE UPGRADE ADVISOR before purchasing though

[Q] Can not find phone in Windows Explorer

I'm running Windows 8.1 and I can't see the phone's folder structure when I connect it my PC. I installed HTC Sync Manager (2.2.32.0) and it sees my old backups etc, but does not see the phone. I can only see the HTC Sync Manager folder as a CD drive when connected to the PC. I'd like to be able to see the actual file structure on the phone.
Any help? Thanks!

Many thanks. I've just tried that, but it doesn't recognise the device.
