[Q] Please help with brick! - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I have tried to install SimplyHoney 3.5 on Froyo 2.2
What I did:
* Factory reset (to remove the speedmod I had).
* Installed CF-Root-JP6-v1.2-Busybox-1.17.1 (to change the recovery)
* Gingerbread Starter with SpeedMOD K13E
* Then I have downloaded SimplyHoney 3.5 to update.zip
Booted into Clock Work Recovery and installed the update.zip
It ran through some code until it said it was successful.
When I reboot I get stuck on the samsung galaxy screen.
I can make it both to the Restore screen and to Download screen.
Restore is doing nothing....
What should I do??
Please help!

Man,
If you think that's bricked, I'd hate to see your face when you deal with a real brick.
Try to flash from recovery again.
If it fails, flash a stock rom and start over. Your internal sd card may need formatted too.

I'm pretty sure that's your problem. You need to flash a stock JVH that contains the bootloaders. Then you flash the custom rom from recovery.

I agree, if 3.5 is jvh then u need jvh kernel and gingerbread bootloaders (check out nitr8s new ezodin bootloader flash

[Q] Boot loop when flashing Froyo/GB/Anyhing non Eclair over stock Eclair JM8 with 2e

Evening,
I'm trying to upgrade from a stock Eclair 2.1 to Froyo.
Recovery is 2e.
I've spent the better part of the last two days reading endless threads here and trying any remotely relevant solutions that were discussed.
The phone simply refuses to boot anything other than Eclair.
Won't run any recovery other than it's stock 2e either.
So far I've tried:
- Stock 2.2 JPC / JPU and 2.3 JPK / JVK with repartition and wipe, using Odin v1.3, 1.52, 1.7, 1.82 and correct pit file.
- 2.3 JPK / JVK with above Odin versions.
- speedmod, CF-Root, darkcore, damianGTO and a few others with Odin and SGS kernel flasher app.
- CWM recovery with SGS kernel flasher app and rom manager app.
- Manually flashing the GT-I9000 2.5.1.2 CWM recovery, which seems to let me into the CWM recovery menu if I "apply update.zip" twice, but recovery is still stock 2e on reboot.
- WIPE versions of popular roms that include a kernel with Odin/CWM.
With all of the above the result is the same. Just shows a the Galaxy S logo for hours and hours. It will not go into recovery mode either, only download mode.
If I flash any stock eclair such as JM4, JM8 or JD4, the phone boots Eclair just fine and I can get 2e recovery again.
I've checked that it's not sim locked with the *#724....# code, which said that everything was unlocked.
Not many hairs left to pull. Hopefully some of the gurus that hang around here would be kind enough to point me in the right direction.
Thank you for your time,
oldseeker

use this to successfully upgrade to Froyo..
cheers
Backup your internal sd storage. (Photo's, music etc.)
Then give it a format. Then try to flash again. Do not worry about restoring all the android folders and such after the format. All of the needed folders will be re-created.
Try taking it to a service centre and ask them to update it to Froyo for you. They might know something we don't.
Dear oldseeker,
Quite a coincidence but I've had a similar problem today with my dad's SGS.
The phone would go into a bootloop if I'd flash froyo or gingerbread.
He had eclair on it and needed an update badly to use his apps.
How I eventually fixed it was, by flashing Eclair JM8 with the pit file from samfirmware (with repartition ticked), and after that was finished, I flashed Darky's
Ressurect Edition 10.1 again with repartition ticked, and everything works now as it should.
Hope this works for you!

[Q] Please help me did I brick my phone?

Hi,
I've tried to flash the latest MIUI ROM on my Samsung Galaxy S but now I'm stuck at recovery mode. When I reboot I always get into recovery mode. I just can't boot it. I tried to wipe and put other rom's on it but I just can't get phone working! I can get into download mode.
So can my phone still be saved?
Hope you guys can help me out!
I would try a clean XXJPU install with ODIN, after you'r on stock install a custom kernel with root - then try cm7 (easier install ) then moving to muiu would be easy.
okay thank you, you would be a hero of you could save my phone haha.
wich custom kernel do you prefer?
If you have download mode install a clean 2.2.1 JPU whith Odin (pit 512 and Re-partition).
Once you have it working, flashing as you want.
Froyo 2.2.1 custom Kernel: speedmod k13d.
GB 2.3.3 custom kernel:Voodoo test 6.0 or GTO Ginger JVH RC1 v2.1.
both for recovery (zip files).
DamianGTO Ginger JVH RC1 v2.1 kernel works fine for gingerbread roms
if you are able to get into donwload mode, you are saved
looks like the ROM you are instlling aint working, or your doing it wrong
i would suggest trying a stock firmware first then you can go crazy and try with new stuff

[Q] Not booting after flashing TalonDEV Kernel

Sorry, im new to all this! I have a stocked rom and stocked kernel i had no way to get to the clockwork recovery so i tried flashing talondev kernel and my wouldnt start anymore so then i flashed the setrion kernel and it worked fine but iwanted to install the contiuumm rom and then i tried to install it from the recovery and my got bricked! i unbricked it and restored it stock again but i dont know where to start again! please help me im still a noobie to all this, but ireallly want that rom!
First off do you have Gb bootloaders? Secon after you flash Talon turn on recovery (i897 bootloaders Vol up and down + power button, i9000bootloaders down+power)
is this it? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1129821
so i just flash that and then flash the talon one? but will that get me to the clockwork recovery too?
according to this Flash GB bootloaders and flash the kernel and it should work. Mind you that's a I9000 rom and it should work with I897 bootloaders but I've never tried it. But I usually recommend I897 over I9000's just because its native, but its a thing of choice i guess.

Clockwork Recovery Rogers 2.3.3

I have Rogers 2.3.3 Official installed and rooted, but every time I go to install Clockwork Recovery from Rom Manager, the Captivate is not listed as a device, I only get Galaxy S i9000, Galaxy S i9000 (MTD), Nexus S, Nexus S 4G. Is there another way to install it? or Did i do something to make the Captivate not show up? Thanks!
there is no CWM update.zip for gingerbread (CWM3) for the captivate.

So how are people getting it on there Captivates then? or do they flash all roms through odin?
If you're gonna flash a ROM, flash a kernel that has cwm included already with Odin, it's probably not going to boot all the way to Android with a different kernel, but just button combo into recovery and flash the ROM.

I tired flashing a kernel that has cwm from this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1127578 but everytime I go in recovery it says "E:/can't mount /cache" etc..... Had to flash back to Rogers 2.3.3 kernel.
That's a beta kernel, just try an xcal kernel, talon, or darkcore. Hell even a froyo kernel should work for just getting cwm, and will be flashed over with the kernel included in the ROM.
Thank you so much for the crystal clear answers! so now that I have GB Bootloaders, can I pretty much flash whatever i897 or i896 rom I want?

yup. if you were to downgrade to a froyo rom, most of those use amend scripting (for cwm 2.5 and under) whereas the ginger roms now use cwm 3 which uses edify, so you would have to flash a froyo kernel wirt odin, or sgs kernel flasher app, button combo into recovery so that you have cwm 2.5.

I just try them all and they don't work! I'm getting bootloop! And now when I flashed back to Rogers Kernel, I'm also getting bootloop, I had to go in recovery and clear cache and userdata to fix it.

Badly stuck in bootloop

Okay,
So i have searched, I was on 2.3.3 custom rom, and then i went on to flash Onecosmic's ICS Port Android 4.0.3 RC1, i flashed the kernel first and then from then on i cant go past flash screen. I tried flashing official firmware from here "I9000DXJV9_OLBJV9_DXJV9" but it wont go past flash screen. any help??? Can somebody link me to full official rom with bootloader and everything.??
register at sammobiles.com and find your firmware there, then flash it through ODIN. Then flash your KERNEL then any custom rom. If you find bootloop, you will need to flash a voodoo kernel this gives you other options in CWM to enable you to disable ALL lags. Then you should be fine. You can reflash any other kernel once your all done.

Ok i will try find out a vooddoo kernel, but if you please can link me to it, it will be very easier
Ok i flashed the voodoo kernel and from CWM i disabled the lagfix. And then again i i got the same error, "failed to mount /dbdata" after flashing through odin. And again back to bootloop.
What do i do.
Thankfully i can get into recovery menu. And i tried restoring nand backup but i got an error flashing boot image.
What's the next step
Try this. Remove BOTH external sd card and sim card. Boot to recovery, goto mounts/storage and format sdcard, back to recovery head menu, factory reset/wipe, format cache/format dalvik cache then remove battery, boot to doenload and flash rom agin with odin
Oh, and dont forget to disable ALL lagfixes BEFORE odin flash.
i had the same problem yesterday, what i did is i flashed through odin some 2.2 froyo (3 files) with repartition and the problem was solved; the rom was pre rooted JP3 ; hope it helps you
