Gingerbread rooting - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have recently flashed the official Samsung Galaxy S gingerbread (I9000DDJV6).
Haven't found a decent way to root yet. My questions -
1. Is there any way to root my phone like froyo can be done with z4root or universal androot?
2. Can I get back to the official rom after flashin CyanogenMod7.

Hi!
I have the latest official non custom Gingerbeard JVO (don't really get how the classification works) from sammy(samsung) rooted with fugu mod.
Other methods failed. Really.
How to apply Fugu mod:
1) go to dev. website/forum post
2) Read
3) Download tar file
4) Open odin, select only PDA.
5) No repartition
6) Patch
By the end of the day you have a rooted phone with really any official Ginger+ lagfix+voodoo etc.
Any "bonuses" are optional. You may never use them.
Pro:
1) Easy
2) Rooted
3) NewBoot with no sound (No stupid TADA melody)
4) Bonuses: LagFix, VooDoo sound etc. btw. voodoo sound makes music much better. Tested with my ipod 4G. Samsung beats iPod like Tyson would beat a child
Contra:
1) Risk
2) After patch/rooth system is somehow unstable.
Everything is ok. BUT! If you want to reboot (which is really rare, but anyway)
you have to wait something like 90 sec antil it reboots 3 times.
Then it works fine.
BTW: Like post? There is a "thanks" button. Don't offtopic too much

I tried it but it did not worked here is procedure which i followed correct me if i did something wrong.
Download the "Kernel_JPJV6.exe" and run it. You'll get a tar file.
1.Flash the attached "zImage-root.tar" file as PDA with no pit and no re-partition using Odin.
2.After Odin says "pass", your phone will reboot.
3.Unplug the cable from Pc.
4.Turn off your phone and wait 1 min.
5.Go to download mode via 3 button combo.
6.Put the extracted original Kernel tar file as PDA only, no pit and no re-partition, plug the cable to the PC again and flash this kernel.
7.After Odin says "pass", your phone will reboot.
8.Unplug the cable from PC.
You are done.
I got this from forums and followed the procedure but it did not root.
please guide me if i did something wrong.
Thanx

Hi kashifhayat
I used the instructions from the xda thread below for JV9, but beware and be warned, after rooting with Fugumod, cannot connect to Kies 2.0
Samsung Galaxy S I9000 > Galaxy S I9000 > Android Development > [HOWTO]Root JV9 / JVO ( no custom kernel )
Further warning: do not know if it will work for JV6

Kashi, it's not so complicated.
take a working gingerbread with no root. Download fugu mod tar fule. Put phone into download mode. Flash.reboot. Done

For souls who still trying to connect to Kies after rooting your SGS GT-I9000 with Fugumod (for whatever reasons), maybe this will help because I managed overcome the problem. Here's what I did:
1. Make sure latest Kies 2.0 is install on your PC.
2. Start Kies
3. Connect SGS to PC via USB using Samsung Kies on USB setting (MTP application should start on your SGS and Kies will keep trying to connect to your device but it cannot at this time and will timeout eventually)
4. Open up Device Manager on your PC. If you see "SAMSUNG Android USB Composite Device" under your root device (your PC name), you should right-click on the device and "uninstall" it.
5. Close your MTP application on your SGS, Kies should stop trying to connect to your device.
6. Disconnect your SGS from USB cable and close Kies.
7. Restart Kies and connect your SGS to USB again. This time, your PC should detect a new hardware and attempts to install the drivers according. Wait for installation to complete and bubble at PC status bar tells that new hardware can be used. Meanwhile, Kies will continue to try to connect to your SGS.
8. Open up Device Manager again and this time if you see a "Portable Devices -> GT-I9000" device created under your root device (your PC), Kies should be able to connect to your SGS and you should be on your way to use Kies to work on your SGS as previously.
Note: If you're able to get to step 8 above, you should find the "SAMSUNG Android USB Composite Device" under the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" only in your Device Manager. I think this is normal and your should leave it be!
Hope this post will be helpful to souls out there who are struggling to re-establish connection to Kies after rooting with Fugumod.
Cheers!

[Q] Odin didn't recognize the SGS

Hi,
I'm about to Flash to 2.3.3 firmware.. but the problem is that after i put my SGS into download mode the Odin didn't recognize my SGS (ID:COM) didn't display YELLOW.., but while i'm on normal mode every time i connect to my laptop Odin always recognize it..
Please help...
Thanks
Start Odin after connecting the phone and the laptop has already 'seen' the phone.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
It's recognized my phone, but once i turn it too download mode by " Volume down+Home+Power) and connect to laptop again.. it's never recognized...
Try running Kies in the background then connect and see what Odin says .
jje
Disconnect SGS USB cable... Close Odin. And update your SGS drivers!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961956
-> Restart PC.
-> Open Odin, put in your files
-> Connect USB cable to PC, THEN to the SGS! (First PC, then Phone)
-> Hopefully you should see Yellow COM!
PS: While in Download Mode, and when connected to PC... Windows may download/update some more drivers. Let it happen! Do not disconnect!
There are two version (*86) and (*64) which one should i choose?
Never had this problem but can suggest few things
1. uninstall kies and reinstall SGS drivers only (Google them, they are available on net)
If doesn't work
2. do a factory reset and try with Odin
3. if not, restore the phone, if you have backup on Clockwork mode recovery.
As i said, never experience this issue, so just suggesting
x86 is for 32-bit Windows, and x64 is for 64-bit Windows!
To check what you own, Right-click on "My Computer" -> Properties -> And see what's written, 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64)
Also, try uninstalling Kies, and install only the drivers posted on that link!
While running Odin, it is recommended that Kies should not be running, even as a service!
Okay, but my SGS is not yet rooted, so is there any chance the Odin didn't recognize my phone due to unrooted device??
i've got the same problem, cant upgrade to gingerbread because of it...tried everything suggested in this thread..even restored a backup i made using clockwork recovery...spent 3 weeks googling and restoring my phone reinstalling drivers e.t.c...ive given up and im stuck on froyo 2.2.1 XXJPY.
Rooted mobile or not rooted, no difference, odin shd recognize, u may try another version of odin or use update.zip or root it to install a custom rom, guessing, u might be missing some bootloaders

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S stuck on boot screen

Hi, i'm noob in Galaxy Flashing so this is my problem:
I have a Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 blocked from italian carrier.
Few times ago i tried to enable 3-buttons download/recovery mode installing Aries_P-SBL.tar.md5 with Odin. The installation finished successfully but the download/recovery mode still didn't work.
After some reboots (where the phone worked right), now the phone stucks in the boot screen (the one with Galaxy S GT-I9000 SAMSUNG).
With the JIG i can enter download mode but my computer can't detect the phone (Windows feels my USB connection but Odin does not detect it).
If i connect the phone to the computer in normal mode (not in download mode, so with stuck screen), Kies can detect the phone but says that it can't talk with phone in this way(like if it was in USB Debug mode).
I Hope someone can help me
Restart your computer>>>Go to task manager and close all Kies applications (I usually have 2 Kies running from startup)>>>Start Odin and select all the files>>>Put your phone into download mode and connect>>>It should be detected now.
If it is still not detected, close odin, disconnect phone. Start Kies go to tools and install drivers. Once this is complete. Close Kies and start from the top of this post...restart...
Solution Is HEIMDALL.....
Here Comes your solution:
You can easily back your phone with Heimdall.
It's a flashtool which is more complicated than ODIN.
If interesting, simply PM me and we will do it.
I'm Here...
Well,first go to here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755265
Second: Download 7-zip PC software & extract your official md5 firmware to obtain several other files.
Third:Search the web for a Heimdall How-To(if you didn't find,I'll provide You links)
Last:You'll flash the firmware via Heimdall & again your peace of mind will be back.
Try to reflash your phone normaly with another Rom, it should work

May i install drivers on OSX with Heimdall?
I have not original samsung USB cable, but i think this is not a problem
Rooted my GT-I9000, and now it has crashed!
First off all my Galaxy I9000 was trying to software update via Kies, and it failed. The it would not start, but i managde to root it with a stock "VOD" rom.. But after a while i wantet to root it back to "Nordic Version"... But i could not do this, because the 3 button combo dont work on my Galaxy I9000 anymore.. :/ So there for i baought a USB JTAG, that puts it into download mode. So far, So good But when it is finished rooting, it fails to mount/unmount a bunch of stuff.. I have a picture of the screen, so that you guys can se what the problem is. I have tryed to root it with the same version that worked before, but it dont work. I have also tryed with som pit files, and so on... I give up, i need help with my Samsung Galaxy S - GT-i9000. Please help me out with this..
Getting Hopeless...?
1)For you to become sure,my Galaxy S Aka I9000 was exactly the same as yours and right now there is nothing wrong with that of course after flashing by HEIMDALL.
2)Remember,if your are going to do anything,Your first and your last key,is your HOPE so be so hopeful and let's start to get over this.
3)Download I9000 USB driver from here and simply install it on WINDOWS OS.
http://hotfile.com/dl/48893334/93383a1/I9000_USB_driver.rar.html
4)Before Using Heimdall, Enter it's folder and you'll see another sub folder called driver and you'll see just ONE executable program, run it and follow these instructions:
(I'll Shortly Provide You A How-to)

[Q] Odin3 v1.3 not recognizing Galaxy S

Hey guys, i've got a really persistent problem, odin isn't recognizing my new galaxy s (i've rooted it)
I've reinstalled the samsung USB drivers a few times now (64-bit) tried different orders of plugging the phone in, e.g. start odin, THEN plug it in, or plug it in then start odin. I've tried it on my old laptop which i used to use to flash back to stock for my vibrant, it doesn't recognize my galaxy s though :/
do any of u guys have any suggestions?

yeh, oh and it recognizes the phone wen its on normally, but not in download mode
1. Try Odin 1.85
2. Make sure If Kies is installed that it is not running in task manager
3. Search XDA for Samsung Drivers.exe and install then retry
You probe on all ports? On my notebook odin recognize phone only on 1 port of 4 Bu when use heimdall under linux, it's OK on any usb port.
One other trick is to hold 3 buttons for download mode and plug in usb cord to phone before you release 3 button's make sure odin is running first before trying this.
Would advise to Download drivers 64 bit from here [https://www.fixmystuff.in/FMS_Forum...s-x64.shtml&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13223281596262] and reinstall. Also, ensure Kies is not running in the background (Check in Task Manager).
thanks for your suggestions everyone, i'll try all of them and get back to you on how it works
sorry i didnt reply in awhile, to all the readers, i used a different computer for odin and it works

Help required: Galaxy Tab

I've been searching XDA & Google for about 1 month but can't find a solution. I don't know why everywhere in some threads whenever somebody asks the same problem there's no reply to that question. So I decided to post this question here to try my luck...
Problem & History:
I tried to root my Samsung Galaxy Tab GT-P1000R with DoonLord V_4, it couldn't root it but left the tab with touch problem then I tried to root it with famaroot various versions, I then again tried to root it with z4root V_1.3.0, all attempts were useless, I don't know which attempt of them, made my tab unable to connect to pc even in download mode.
When I set my tab to connect to Kies or Media it shows that it's connected but PC doesn't detect it. Please help...

Thanks for your reply but I have already gone through this post but as I mentioned problem is that PC doesn't detects it even when I put the Tab in DL mode. Is there any method to root it? So that I could use Mobile Odin to restock it.
It is an usb-driver problem and not rooting, I'm 99% sure of it. It's the PC that HAS to find the Tab first.
Hmmmm

I've tried on another PC and with another USB cable but in vain. Other Smartphones connect it without any problem.
Any smartphone or the P1000 are not the same. I have had on multiple occasions that even Samsung Kies did not recognise it and had to reinstall Kies. Same for the Samsung Mobile phones drivers. And don't forget to reboot your PC after installing drivers.
Keep on trying because it is still going into download mode and logic tells it should be accessible. Does the PC give a notification like driver not found or similar?
NO.

No. There's no activity in PC when I connect it. It neither shows new hardware found nor any other notification like unrecognized device etc.
BTW I have reinstalled Kies, updated it, uninstalled it, installed separate drivers for Samsung USB but no gain...
One last option, let the battery become completely empty (0% charge). Recharge and try again, it rescued my tab once after a bad flash.
That is to my knowledge the last resort.
Alas!

What version of windows are you on? Because windows 8 is a *****, Vista or 7 should work.
(Or GNU-Linux). And have you tried Heimdall already? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1323527
Heimdall download https://code.google.com/p/heimdall-one-click/downloads/list
Get a stock ROM and how to use Heimdall (these are old instructions so there could be newer versions available).
-----------Heimdall install instructions ------------------
1. Download Heimdall.
2. Download Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86) and install it. Download it here List All Devices.
5. From the USB Device list chose "Samsung USB Composite DEvice".
6. Press "Install Driver", click "Yes" to the prompt and if you receive
a message about being unable to verify the publisher of the driver
click "Install this driver software anyway".
7. Done. This only needs to be done once.
-----------How to use Heimdall-------------------------
1. Put your tab into download mode - Power off Tab, once powered down hold power and the volume down button at the same time. You will see a android digging.
2. Start Heimdall
3. Hook your tab up to your PC or MAC and you will see a progress bar. That must say Ready to get heimdall to work.
4. Find you Firmware and unzip it until you see the following files below.
(NOTE: when you first unzip your firmware it may unzip into a .tar file unzip the .tar file to get the files below.)
a. Zimage
b. FactoryFS.rfs
c. Param.lfs
d. Boot.bin
e. SBL.bin - not always included
f. cacher.rfs
g. dbdata
h. modem.bin - not always included
5. Place each of those files in their correct spot and hit start.
ONE BIG NOTE: if you use a PIT file do NOT select repartition. It might brick your tab as heimdall has a problem when selecting repartition w/ a pit file. It is ok to use the pit file just make sure repartition is unchecked.
(Use ODIN for repartition with pit)
Got it working...
Thanks buddy, I bought a half dozen of USB cables for the tab and got it working with one of them at last... I don't know but I thought it was the last way out to try different cables... And at last, I got it working after long...
Please let me know the correct way of rooting, as DoomLord v. 4 has already failed to root it. Please guide if possible... I have a Ragers (Canada) Tab. GT-P1000R
