I just paid £200 for a fake HD2 :-( - Off-topic

The title says it all Maybe the seller wasn't aware that it was a fake, he had all good feedback on eBay. Either way, I have contacted him and if he doesn't give me my money back, I will be starting a dispute with PayPal! Such a huge amount of hassle! Didn't even know fake HD2's existed...

Bummer. My experience with Paypal is that they always take side of the buyer, so good chance you will get your money back

Well thaaaaaaats good to know. I have no doubt in my mind I will get my money back. The screen is resistive and everything :'( I'm so upset hahaha

That is terrible. I'm very sorry to hear this. Do everything within your power to get even, contest the purchase, notify everybody, go the police, call in the national guard, send out smoke signals to your posse...
Man I hope that you get your money back

lol man , but the price didn't match with the hd2 new price

I know, she said she got it for her birthday and didn't like it so I assumed that is why there was no reserve etc. I'm not stupid or anything lol, that is just how much they were selling for. Anyway I've purchased another one now that is used but actually genuine for £70 less! Asked the seller to send via special delivery so will be arriving tomorrow I've contacted the seller and told her if she doesn't reply within 24 hours I will just open a dispute.

I doubt aaaaaanyone cares, but a nice little success story on my behalf. After the seller refusing to refund at first, I just kept on pushing and saying I would open a dispute and she has refunded me all £207.75. Woo!

I once bought an ipod touch 2nd Gen... got a 1st gen... contacted the seller who said, "oops, oh well, resell it yourself" so I contacted paypal. I had a refund within the hour once paypal contacted the seller.

What an arsehole! I've had an email from PayPal saying she sent the refund, just waiting for it now! Hopefully won't take too long So happy she co-operated!

PayPal is really great with eBay stuff. They don't take any crap from sellers and protect the buyer.

You need to get your money back

[Q] Gumtree Scammers [UK]

So I tend to list my old phones on Gumtree, due to eBay's crazy fees. With eBay and Paypal, you sell a phone for £400 and give them £40 of it! Kinda crazy really.
Anyway, everytime I list an item on Gumtree (even through I state I wont ship internationally) I get e-mails people telling me they will pay me X+£100 via Paypal.
Of course I always either ignore or reply telling them I wont ship outside of the UK at which point they don't reply.
What I'm curious about is, how do they work the scam? Paypal is generally quite safe isn't it? Do they claim after two week's they haven't received the item? Does the money just never get to Paypal and they try and talk you in to sending it before it's there?
I'm half tempted to ask one of them to pay the money, me with no intention of sending the phone anywhere, just to see what happens...
http://reviews.ebay.com/PAYPAL-BUYER-SCAM-EXTREMELY-IMPORTANT-INFORMATION_W0QQugidZ10000000000114286
Basically unless you have proof that you have sent, and that they have signed for an item, PayPal will refund the money.
a specific example
So from the example, even if you have proof that the package was delivered, Paypal are likely to give the money back?
I wonder what happens if I ask the scammers to transfer direct into my bank account?
That's made me a little nervous now. I've just sold my DHD on eBay, the guy has paid with Paypal right away.
What are the safest steps for me next? I simply post it via recorded delivery and submit the tracking number to eBay somewhere?

and on paypal too
Thinking about it, I should probably do it special delivery, because that is insured. So if he claims its damaged or something, I can go back to Royal Mail?
Now... the other thing, the guy is only 7 miles away, I'd prefer to drop it over to him. If I get him to sign a 'receipt' do you think Paypal would accept it? I guess I'm actually safer posting it now, he's paid for postage, so he could claim I made it up, where's my postage info...

I replied to a spam scam once, I gave him the crime stoppers number as my mobile number. Idiot didn't notice what is was, just asked for my personal number. At that point I ignored.

So long as you keep the receipt for postage, and make a note of the time and date, where you posted it etc, the Post Office will refund up to £30 (I think that's the amount anyway) for missing items, after they have investigated. Anything more expensive, and I would suggest you send it with insurance anyway.
Are you guys serious??????
just search "gumtree scams paypal moneysavingexpert" on google (sorry can't post links)
That's why I stopped using gumtree overall. It is nothing but a scam den! Now I use other safer sites like movethat.com or bonsoni.com
Not if you're careful. I've not been scammed once using Gumtree and I've made more money from each sale as I'm not giving eBay and Paypal 12% of my sale. You could say that in itself is the biggest scam...
I do still use eBay, cause we don't really have any other auction alternatives do we?
Yes if you are smart then you should be ok (although my smart cousin lost his deposit money for a flat) . But the problem is Internet is available to everyone, even to the granny who never used a comp before.
usually these kind of naive people are becoming a victim. Just search gumtree fraud or gumtree scam on google news search thousands on result come up! Apparently police stopped taking this crime reports as they are too many of them.
You are not giving that 12% to ebay and paypal but do remember that actually you are doing them a favour by using gumtree, which is own by ebay and paypal.
That's what happened when capitalism reach at its pick and consumers don't have much choice.
Once again I prefer to use other smaller and safer sites then any of the above named site.

eBid.net is an alternative to Ebay.
The alternative I used for Gumtree.com is OzAdz.com. I love their Personals section lol.

I don't think it's a viable alternative though. For example, there's 1 Nexus S for sale on eBid. If I'm looking for a phone, why would I go to eBid. If I'm selling, why would I start an auction on eBid, next to no-one see's it and my item sells at a crazy low price

One reason to use smaller websites like ebid is because less people will bid, so you may pick up a bargain.

That's exactly what I'm saying, thanks. Very bad for sellers, not a viable option.

Got screwed by "bigpetesales" on ebay

So I had about $200 to spend on a cell and wanted something with a key bored.
Long story short, I won a my touch 3g slide on ebay for $144.50 from "bigpetesales" and I paid on the 16 of April. Well its not May 11 and still nothing.

Any ways I filed a clam with paypal but fell Im not gonna get money back and in the end, get the shaft.

Not sure. Hope so, so maybe I can get this sorted out.
As for the dispute on paypal. I allready did but, because the sale price was not over $150 paypal dose not require signature verification to prove it was delivered.
I paid $144.50 without shipping so Im up ****s creek without a paddle.

I should think it is up to the seller to prove it wasn't delivered. Your dispute should work.
On a side note, T-Mobile is offering these for free with 2 year activation, through 12 May:

Don't worry. If he doesn't prove the tracking is moving, paypal will be in your favor.
He sold stuff before but wasn't active in ebay for couple months now. Maybe his account got hacked.
Either way, you're protected by eBay buyer protection and paypal too.

eBay can solve all of your problems, they always have for me. They side with the buyer 99% of the time unless it's obvious otherwise.

I am in Canada and need an AWS cell to use on the Wind network, but thanks for the tip any ways.
Also I know that this has nothing to do with a transaction on xda but as stated I just wanted to give a heads up in case some one from here was shopping on ebay and came across that seller.
As for paypal, I could win but get nothing if he withdrew his funds out of his account, this is what I was told by paypal yesterday when I called them.
if you win, paypal will get all money for you.....
if user don't have money in him account, we will have a negative money on him account...and paypal will persue him to revenge xD loool
Sooo I got an update from ebay/paypal, the seller updated the tracking info.... "usps #1111111111111111111"

Nope, all 1's. It is what it is. I just hope I get my money back.
If a paypal rep looks at it, they would probably look at the tracking # and say something. Wish you the best of luck on that one.
Surprised. A hundred and something positives, no neg feedback on that user. That sucks to get shafted like that.
Good luck on getting it back from Paypal, though it should be a pretty easy claim.
Thanks guys. I dont know whats gonna happen as I was told by a person from paypal that I can win the claim but there could be no funds in the sellers account, so I would get nothing back.
I just had a paypal dispute close a little while ago for $250. seller took out all the money in his account, won the case, pay pal put his account into the negative and gave me my money back asap. told me it was there problem not mine. so its worth a shot... and this was a pay pal dispute that was from a forum not a eBay purchase which they are more willing to help with because of image. good luck

eBay dispute - not with xda member

Got a small problem.
I sold an ASUS Eee Pad Transformer to a guy on eBay around a month ago (January 13th, to be exact). I said the condition was not amazing, it had a few knocks, scratches, knicks etc. However, this guy bought it for £200.
I have just had an eBay message from the same guy who bought the TF. He says the build quality isn't very good and there's a dead pixel on the screen. I did not notice these when I had the tablet. Furthermore, the Transformer's build quality is known to be not so good.
Where do I stand on this? Am I in the right by saying that I won't take it back, because I said 'no returns accepted' on the listing? Or do I have a legal obligation to take this back and refund him the money (obviously I'd prefer the former).
Thanks,
Phil
i would make sure its the same tablet (hes not sending you a different one back) since you said you didnt notice the dead pixel
Have him take a picture of the dead pixel.
And ask him to describe his qualms about the build quality. Hopefully he'll go into depth about creaking and such, things that are a fault of the manufacturer's and definitely not yours.
So long as there is no dead pixel and he isn't complaining about you improperly describing the tablet, I would not refund it.

I would leave it unless he files a claim with paypal. Then just show pictures of it and fight it. It may take a while but it's worth it. That said if he offers to send it back accept the return and sell it again, it will save you the hassle in the long wrong
You shouldn't be obligated to accept returns since it was explicitly stated that you don't accept them.

That's true unless the user disputes with paypal. If he does so and wins the seller HAS to refund the user.
You have no legal obligation to accept that item back unless you deliberately misrepresented the condition of the item prior to its sale.
If you have pics etc(you would have had them on the eBay listing?) and made clear the condition of the tablet then the customer has no recourse to you.
I'd reply to the customer and advise a dead pixel may be something they can take up with the manufacturer if it's still under warranty, if not, tough luck and sorry but it's nothing to do with you.
-psb
"No returns" policy that sellers use on eBay is meaningless. eBay does not allow it and will side with the buyer 90% of the time. Unfortunately for OP he does not have much recourse if buyer files a SNAD claim with eBay. The only defensive argument he has is to state that the item has been in buyer's possession for some time now and that it was sold as used.
I'd refund the guy 20 quids and call the day. No need to complicate it any further.

If he accepts it, its the best you can expect.
I had the same with a tg01 on ebay, buyer claimed screen scratched even though it wasnt and was told to return the item to me by paypal who froze the money and then refunded him despite me showing photos to the contrary. Lucky for me mine came back unharmed, the buyer obviously didnt like it and used an excuse to get a easy refund. Paypal ignored my proof and my call for proof from the buyer.
In most cases within a 7/14 day period whatever Paypal have as a grace period, they will side with the buyer as long as the buyer does as instructed Im sorry to say.
OK, thanks guys!
I told him to send it back to ASUS. He said he isn't blaming me and he likes the tablet, so it looks like he doesn't want a refund, which is good.
I'll update this thread when/if I get another message from him
EDIT: I'll thank the people I didn't manage to thank tomorrow, ran out of thanks for today

Issues with fastcardtech

Hi to all,
I want to share with you what appened last month with fastcardtech site... I already bought a zopo zp100 and I was really satisfy about service so I decide to bought a new one but white.
Reading internet site I saw that two models are available but I was interested only in the completely white one so I ask availability at support center of fastcardtech that confirm by mail the availability.
After two day I release the payment and in a week the phone was shipped.
Where is the problem? The phone received was the other one.
After 1 month they could give me a 3% discount (6USD due to account limitation) on next order that I'll never do cause It's not sure what they will ship.
I didn't report all the mail between us where they wanted to refund (6USD) and after 2 weeks no paiment was released so I asked and they wrote back to call support center...
I'm writing this post cause the site is really cheapest but pay attention cause if there is a problem you'll not have support... In some case you feel victim of a joke...
Bye.
P.S. attacched the chat transcript for all the detail
Sorry for what happened
i faced the same problem they listed a phone with high specification at a high price yet it was just specifications hacked in kernel the phone was not of quality as it was priced i bought it at USD 295 yet other phones of exact spec without hacking kernels were at USD 165 so if you are buying online its better you buy from sites with payments protections like escrow of aliexpress as the product i bought there was real coz it had to wait for my confirmation the payments to be made which force the sellers to be sure of what they are doing.
In fact the item was shipped with very low prices i never requested for which led me to be over taxed as the tax authority had to do it by themselves.

I don't know what to tell everyone, but I ordered from them and didn't have any problem other than I paid $2.99 for them to root the phone which was never done nor refunded.
I used EMS shipping and had my phone within a week; the tracking was a bit wack, but I figured it out and it even worked.
Everything works great on the phone and came as promised. I can't comment on customer service other than they never responded about a refund for the $2.99.

Here's one I busted on aPad.tv.com forum; regarding Hyundai T7 Exynos 4 quad-core processor Tablet PC:
me: I ordered 1 a week ago. It was supposed to have been in stock, but when I checked on the status it was still unshipped. I was beginning to wonder if the T7 even existed; so what aPadTVadmin said about them being in stock, makes since now. I guess most of these online stores get all their stuff drop-shipped, am I assuming correct?
aPadTVadmin: I spoke to DP a couple of days ago regarding the T7 for another reason and all T7 units have been shipped out. This was Thursday. If you ordered 1 week ago it would have shipped out nearly same day. I witnessed with my own eyes a large stock of T7 Hyundais being processed for shipping out last time I visited there.
Please give me your order number so I can validate it and check with them for you.
me: BUNCH OF SCAM ARTISTS! I contacted the manufacturer today and found out that they don't even start shipping them until March 7th, 2013. SO THERE'S NO WAY THAT ANYONE EVEN HAS T7'S YET, EXCEPT FOR A FEW ENGINEERING SAMPLES THAT WENT OUT. SO MUCH FOR SEEING THEM WITH YOUR OWN EYES... MORE LIKE LYING OUT OF YOUR OWN MOUTH.

this guy who wrote this is also part of the scam; he want's you think that the company actually ships a good product, while the truth is, what you'll get is an imitation of the product you order, if at all that; these guys are all in cahoots, and they're on every forum & youtube video out there. They are good at what they do & once they ship the inferior product, if you return it, you lost all your money, point blank.
aliexpress.com is the best site to buy tablets/phones from china. they have buyer protection, and the money isn't released from your account till you confirm the device is received and working.
Scam
I ran into the FCT trap too. Should have done some more research beforehand .
I ordered an HDC Note 3 clone from them and paid through Paypal. They provided a Singapore shipping number and the next day told me the phone is out of stock and was not shipped. Meaning a fake shipping number was provided. The same time the same phone is still listed on their website as "in stock" and questions of potential customers are answered.
They told me to choose an alternative phone which I did with another HDC N9002. 35$ more expensive which difference I paid. They did not ship, after a number of reminders they however provided again the same (!) fake shipping number as before. So the item was never ever intended to be shipped. They play for time and money to get over the 45 days to launch a Paypal dispute. So be careful.
Currently a dispute for full refund is ongoing.
Stay away from these scammers!
SCAM artists
I'm also getting countless fake shipping numbers regarding broken tablet that I actually received from them.
Beware of FCT!
They are always delaying with shipping (some items they never ship). Their policy is to provide a bit lower prices than the others at first sight and then add extra fees for nothing and eventually ship the item you ordered when it is already outdated.
Fake shipping numbers are their method of delay.
FCT
I recently ordered from FCT and of course before reading all the forums of countless individuals who have been scammed or dooped by these guys.
Anyway after 2 weeks from placing my order I received a tracking number followed by another tracking number 2 days later (weird), then a week later it was scanned into the U.S, 2 or so more days it actually arrived at my door!!! (bing bong)
I was pretty stoked however, once I opened my package (HDC GT N9000 Note3) one thing was missing ...No stylus!! so after numerous calls to these guys via Skype (preferred and only method to contact them) I finally speak to a man who tells me that if I buy another phone they would include the stylus plus a gift free of charge....wait the phone was advertised to include this?? blah blah something shipping he began to ramble on about.... all n all pointless
I'm now a month into having my phone which appears to be pretty effin exact to the Note3 however yesterday my phone just disconnected from my network and will not re-connect. I cannot reach a soul at this place leaving me with a fancy mini internet tab/paperweight/possibly shooting target..
Basically they were great until I gave them my money and the phone is awesome however customer service is a huge key to running any successful business and this is something they LACK.....
GOOD LUCK!

Everything works great on the phone and came as promised. I can't comment on customer service other than they never responded about a refund for the $2.99.
Would I order from them again? Maybe, but you might have to cross your fingers and hope you're lucky but my experience was acceptable.

Will Sprint HTC One work in Nigeria?

*NOTE: This can be deleted, because I was being a moron. All I had to do was log into my PayPal account and see the funds weren't there, or even pending, and I knew immediately someone was trying to scam me. Should have known sooner, though.
So, I "sold" my HTC One on Craigslist, and the person who bought it apparently wants me to ship it to Nigeria where her son is sttending school; it's for his birthday. She gave me 60 bucks more than I was asking via PayPal, which she stated was for shipping. Aside from not knowing whether the Sprint variant will even work over there (does anyone know?), I can't help but feel uneasy about this whole thing. I guess as long as the funds clear I'm safe, and am under no obligation to (unlike with eBay), to right any wrongs she might point out later down the line. Should I just take the money send the phone and run, or is there something I'm not seeing that could cause legitimate problems?
Oh man that's a big no no. Doing business with people on craigslist who want to pay you through PayPal and Western Union plus wanting you to send it to another country which always seems to be in Africa is almost always a scam. If you read the craiglist faq you might get more info on what they do.
Edit: Glad you caught it
Mwahaha, I remember having one of these for a listing on my Galaxy Tab 10.1. Businessman in Nigeria for his son's birthday. Were it not for the bad English, they actually had a reasonably convincing-looking PayPal e-mail notification (which failed Google's trusted vendor mail check, sure, but it was good nevertheless).

Actually, the PayPal thing was my idea. It was my way to get a higher dollar amount for the phone, kind of like what some gas stations do with credit-based sales. In my case I asked $425 cash or $450 via PayPal. Maybe I should stick with cash and local sales, though.
And this scammer was the same deal, Rirere, except it was a woman sending to her son. I Googled the mailing address faux PayPal sent me and found other people who had also almost been ripped off.
It's a good idea to always deal in cash, locally, and meet at a sprint store. Unless you are selling on ebay, doing it this way will cover both seller and buyer.
