Can you get it into download mode without it turning off? (Hold volume down + home button + power) Or recovery? (Hold volume up + home button + power?) Is it rooted with clockwork mode?

Maybe its a boot loop. Switch off your phone and check if download and recovery mode is available(see next paragraph).
If so follow the steps mentioned.
First of all download xxjw4 firmware for galaxy gt-I9000 from
http://www.hotfile.com/dl/150483619/708026d/I9000XXJW4_I9000OXAJW4_XEU.zip.html
1) Put your phone into Recovery mode (Vol up + Home + Power button) and perform a Wipe data/Factory reset, then a Wipe cache. When done pull the battery out for around ten seconds then re-insert.
(If recovery isn't working ignore this step)
2) Put the phone into Download mode (Vol down + Home + Power button)
3) Unzip the JW4 firmware folder you've downloaded to your Desktop.
4) Launch Odin and click on the button that says PDA and navigate to the PDA file you've just unzipped to your desktop and select it.
5) Connect your phone to your PC via USB. Odin will say Added and a box will turn yellow to indicate it has recognised your phone.
6) Click the start button in Odin and sit back and wait for Odin to flash your phone. When it's finished it will take a few minutes longer for the phone to reboot than is usual so please don't panic. The phone will reboot.
7) When the phone has rebooted, remove the USB cable and you now have the latest 2.3.6. It might be a good idea to repeat step 1 to make sure nothing of the old firmware is left behind.
And that's it, seven steps to 2.3.6 JW4 Value Pack and TouchWiz 4.
In case you want more info about flashing go to this site

Enjoy
idon't have a recovery the phone isn't root and but i can get to the download mod !
still i tried what you said with the odin and it doesnt work
the phone wasn't root before and had a stock from the operator
If its a boot loop try this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=984140
If not download the files from sammobile (2.3.6 xxjw4) put the .tar file in the PDA and 512 pit file in the pit section make sure the repartition is ticked then if it still in a boot loop search for the cfs root and flash that then get the file off the thread I gave you then flash that to the phone as instructed on the thread then your phone should work edit* you need to put your phone into download mode before plugging in and flashing

yeah i know the basics ! but stil it doesnt work ! can it be a hardware problem? and if it right how can i fix it ?
Did you try that method? And when did it start turning off, did you try mpding it or did it just start doing it? Does it he a knock when it turns off or is it at the same place everytime? If it stays turned on in download mode its probably software related also make sure the drivers are installed using kies

Does Odin recognize your phone (com12 or something like that in yellow)
If not then try different USB port or also different cable and computer.
According to my experience if you are able to go to download mode then there is always a way to fix the problem
I'm using TWRP on my captivate as a recovery, and while i was flashing my rom, I wiped everything, and didn't make a nandroid
Now my phone goes straight to TWRP and I can't boot to download mode to restore with Odin.. Any help would be appreciated
Mount USB in recovery and load a new package to flash. You cannot flash a stock image from recovery.

If you want recovery mode, do this:
1. Pull your battery
2. Put the battery in
3. Hold both the volume up and down buttons
4. Insert the USB
5. You are now in DL mode!

Unfortunately, my TWRP has problems with mounting, and my phone does not join in recovery mode... The only package I have in my internal SD is CM7 which I was trying to flash after using Team Nyx's ICS, but the problem is, when flashing, TWRP gets an error and my package will not flash (it's a mounting error with emmc). Also, I've tried about 4 different key combinations and can't get my phone into download mode, it just boots straight into recovery.
I guess there is no "reboot download" option under advanced like in cwm recovery. And i'm not sure if you could use ADB to reboot to download mode because of the ics.
Last resort, check my sig below if u r on a pc for links on how to make a Jig or where to buy one.

I'm a complete android noob, so I'm not sure how to use ADB on my pc to get my phone into download mode, and also, I no longer have an OS running on my phone, and I don't think you can reach ADB shell unless you have your phone in USB Debugging mode.
Heys guys ive got a problem with my S5830i, i wanted to flash AceCream v1 for the second time but at some point i failed, (i flashed it succesfully first time)

Yes i can, and it didnt reboot, so it means my phone isn't hard bricked
yes maybe just a soft one. You do know how to use Odin, right? You can flash a stock firmware, there's one thread who has stock firmware just follow the instructions from there. try this. Hope you fix your ace in no time :good:

Try installing the Samsung drivers yourself, I think there is one in Sammobile.com. Not sure though, or just try visiting samsung's website and download the drivers.
Just Google for Samsung mobile usb driver, i have just downloaded it few hours ago.

Hi all,
Yesterday i bricked my phone. I can't enter the download modus I hope someone can help me.
On the device was installed original Froyo 2.2
To root I installed via Odin I9000XWJVH_-_I9000XENJV4 and did a repartition > so far so good
after that i installed a kernel called CF-Root-XW_XEE_JS7-v1.3-BusyBox-1.15.3 via Odin > after that i only could update with update.zip. That was no option.
So i searched for a another kernel with CLOCKWORKMOD. I choose [KERNEL] Advanced Voodoo v666.1+2 (CLOCKWORKMOD 3/VOODOO SOUND/OC+UV) for Gingerbread 2.3.3. I installed voodoo-kernel-XWJVH-v1.4.tar. > He passed the flash via Odin.
Right now when i start the phone i only see the Samsung image and i can't enter the download or recovery modus. I hear a voice saying " convert data partition" then she said "not enough space on partition"
What can i do? Use a USB Jig?
can you enter recovery mode or download mode ?

Hello,
I have a Galaxy tab p1000 which is bricked (I think).
I get this menu when it boots up: (I'm new here and posting links is not alowed for me )i.imgur.com/1a0unwF.jpg
None of the options work.
I can't get my pc to recognize the device though. So flashing something with Odin or Heimdall doesn't seem to work.
Do you think this is fixable?
Help will be much appreciated,
Thanks
Can you boot to download mode?
(From off state, hold Vol-Down arrow, then press power button until the screen lights up. Then let go of power but hold on to Vol down).
In download mode, if Odin/heimdall detects, then flash stock rom.
For example, use Overcome method linked to in my signature.
Make sure yours is P1000 for that to work.

I can put the tab in download mode. When I open Heimdall -Utilities- Detect Device->Detect
It says Device detected. But Odin doesn't detect it.
Reinstall USB driver that is for Odin

Ok. So Odin recognizes the tablet now. I tried to flash stock rom but it didn't work. The tablet restarted and the same menu popped up.
That is Odin with PIT file and repartition.

I tried reflashing several times with Odin 1.7, gt-p1000_mr.pit in pit and the
P1000XWJQ8_P1000PROJQ1_P1000XXJPZ_HOME.tar.md5 file in pda
I keep getting the same error E: failed to mount /data
Okay. So I reflashed it this time using your GB-Stock-Safe-v5 files and it worked.
I can't believe it. Thank you so much for this.
