[Q] Broken 3.5mm headphone port.... - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i have insurance and what not but if i take it to sprint and they have to give me a new phone.....
well they give me another Hero? do they still have them in stock?
whats the word lol

they might give you a refurbished one or give u an early upgrade i was talking to a guy at radio shack and he said sometimes if they run out of heroes they will ask you if you want an lg optimous s witch is about the same as the hero

oh nice...so what are the odds of that happening at a sprint store? cuz i think id rather have a lg s rather than my old hero....

they would probably do it just so u know the optimous dosnt have as good as a development community.
it still a good phone though the specs are relatively the same as the hero just senseless and a tad bit more ram.

If you have insurance and your sprint store has a repair facility, they will try to repair it.

New or Used?

Ok guys, I need a bunch of good opinions real fast like. I'm shopping for a new tilt online. Yea, I'd love to buy a REAL TYTN II but I don't have that kind of money to throw around right now. I figure that you are paying more for a name, some different paint, a camera and that's about it. So an att tilt will just have to do. I can always flash the firmware to the latest htc spec. So, with all that in mind I need to know what I should do. I've been looking on ebay and they have used tilts for around 250-350 dollars. They are all in good condition... they say, and come with everything. I'm thinking about buying one of these "slightly used" ones, assuming they really are just that. OR I can buy a brand new tilt, fresh out of the box for around 400-450 dollars and know that no one else has touched it. Money is kinda tight, but I don't want this breaking on me either, it's got to last a long while. New or used? Appreciate it. SPACE
1) Line breaks are your friend.
2) If you are going to buy used, just make sure you get some kind of warranty to cover you in the event of hardware failure. Squaretrade sells warranty that cover everything short of losing your device, and AT&T offers insurance for $5/mo that will replace lost/stolen devices. Of course you need to be an AT&T customer for that last option.
AT&T is also selling refurb Tilts for $149 right now, but that requires a 2 year contract.
I just love these threads. Why should I buy "x"? The UTLIMATE reason to buy ANYTHING is because "YOU WANT TO!"
If you look at the price, specs, and reviews and it doesn't give you a boner, then you probably will not be satisfied with it. But if looking at the information gets you excited, then you should buy it.
Anything Treo, Myself, or anyone else says is secondary. Only you can look at something and know that is what you want.
jimmy is that post stuck on your clipboard right now? SPDT(same post different thread) the only difference is the name on the last line.
btw i think that is the greatest quote ever
"If you look at the price, specs, and reviews and it doesn't give you a boner, then you probably will not be satisfied with it."
to the op, don't do a refurbished phone with att, my original stopped working and they have sent 5 to me, 3 with broken USB ports, 1 broken screen, and one without a working radio, plus that last one wasn't recognized by my comp if it was in bootloader
I think you should buy both...used and new... and then see which one you like better. Which ever one you do not like, put in in a blender and make a video of it being shreaded and then upload it to YouTube and then we can all watch it. FANTASTIC! THANKS FOR THE THREAD!

dude, I've wanted a phone like this before they even existed, ever since I was a kid watching star trek (old and new), I've had a boner for this phone for ages! My question really is should I buy used and save some money? I don't know because I don't know how reliable the phones can be... so, I thought I'd ask. This is my uber phone fcol! For now anyways...

Same here, with only a few exceptions. Phones however, must be new and free of anyone else's "cooties" before I stick it up to my ear.
NEW NEW NEW, the one year warranty is priceless to me.
alright well I'm probably going to buy a new one but I'm not going to buy it from the att store. 500+ is too much for something that is going to drop in price asap. I'll buy a new one in the box off ebay unless you guys know where I can get one cheaper.

[Q] Is it worth getting a G1??

Hey all,
I'm wanting to get another Android phone as I got rid of my HTC Wildfire. I'm thinking about getting the G1 as its cheap and seems as though it can perform well.
I'm looking at buying one that is locked to T-Mobile and has the newest carrier updates on. My question is can it be unlocked? and does Cyanogen mod perform well?
Thanks!
It would be worth having one now, but getting one from fresh... that would depend on how cheap you can get one and if you think you need a hard-QWERTY. The G1 is quite old... and you may be more content with adding more funds for a G2.
I recently bought a G1 for cheap, and it is great currently have it running gingerbread which works really quite well, a lot more so then i thought cyanogenmon 6 did.
I also believe that they can be unlocked quite easily as well
Thanks for the info
I'm looking at a G1 also, coming from a CDMA Moment with 2.2.2 and looking to switch to GSM. The Moment has a faster processor(?) but is not a very good at some things, like being a phone. Is the G1 a good PHONE? I can get a good ROM for the things I want but does the phone part work well?
G1 okay phone, easy to mod. if you like tinkering.
G1 is an okay phone. My partner at work uses a Blackberry, he can't hear the person at the other end without an ear piece, I don't have that issue on my G1.
I do NOT love my G1, it's bulky/heavy and I don't feel the build quality is as good as some of the other phones. The Speaker is on the back of the phone, opposite from the display - seriously who does that? Samsung for example always puts the speaker above the main screen.
The Keyboard has very small keys but it IS a 5 row keyboard, you can get good with some practice, but some of the newer phones, ex: T-Mobile Sidekick 4G has a keyboard/CPU/display that I almost can't believe how good it is, however they have the dumbest overlay I've ever seen, haha, can't have it all I guess.
The G1 is reliable, it's just not very pretty, if it's cheap, it's a deal.
Hi,
I am contemplating putting my G1 up for sale.
It is the one in my Signature.
Lemme know.
Heeter
If you don't play big games, g1 is enough, however, you cannot buy a new one now.
If I were you, I will buy another new phone.
I suggest a HTC Wildfire at least :/ g1 is maybe just too slow even for normal use if your gonna even get apps :'(
Honestly, no. Get a higher end device and you will be much happier.. I just got a HD2 and it is a huge improvement over the G1, and very worth investing in.
The G1 can't run many of the apps on market because it is too slow, including live wallpapers, angry birds rio, etc..
It depends on how much you can get if for. I got mine for US$50 used a few weeks a go. It's really slow and low on capacity but it's a great entry phone to Android for me. Learned a lot with it. It works great as a phone. And the best part is, if I brick it, I will not feel bad. Just pull the SIM and move to the next cheap phone I can find.
Just saw someone selling one for $30 on craigslist. I would definitely get that one if I haven't got this one.
I completely agree with the above statement ^^
I would love to get an G1 for a nice 2nd/back up phone since my bb 8900 curve have self rebooting problems

[Q] anyone thought?? "exchange/trade G1"

as i am not selling/trading my phone here, and just want some advice, i guess the G1 forum is the right place(instead of market place)
long story short, with G1's going under 100$ on the mp,and it being an old device, i was wondering here(local) if i could sell it...cash offer are hard to come by
so, if i exchange it, what's a better option???
nokia n900???
htc tp2???
iphone 3g???
or some vivaz/aino/satio...
straight exchanges(no cash involved)
pros and cons
i like the android feel, and love the G1 for the keyboard
any suggestions????
thnx
my personal suggestion... dont sell it...
there still a lot of development on the g1 believe it or not and you wont get much for it in a trade, so just keep it as a spare.. test things out with it, have fun try developing or just messing with it...
i love the G1...but if i am getting a tp2 or n900 without involving any cash from my end, then???
and i can pick another g1 for under 100$ here.. how's that???
ps-i spent 200$ getting my g1 last december
dammm, i had a G1 since they came out.. finally bought a spare couple weeks ago for like $40... was in better codition than my other new 1... lol but uhh im not sure which device to trade it for... im not sure which devices you can 'explore' with like the g1... some devices have more restrictions to work around, where the G1 is wayyyy more open to development.. so it's users preference i guess... unless someone else can answer this better for you
i have a zillion reasons to love the G1...and the fact that i can pick one here(at xda) for under 100$, and actuaaly sell mine for 200$ locally..or trade for n900/tp2...and play with the one i buy again....how's that??
My advice is to keep it for spare, or for when you have to go to different country (IE: for business, vacation, etc...). G1 come in handy when you need a phone while you are there. All you have to do is buy a SIM chip and put it in.

[Q] Hero still stocked by Sprint?

Alright y'all, it's time to upgrade the ol' Hero and turn it into the GSII. Bbbuuuttttt I don't want to necessarily pay the full amount, and I'm not due for a full upgrade yet (not till March... poo). I was wondering if anyone knows whether or not Sprint is still stocking refurb'd Hero's? And, if they are not, I'll need to undo all my rooting and return it to stock. This way I could have something else until my upgrade rolls around... I have to reboot at least 3-4x a day. It currently runs CM7 with Collin ph Battery Tweak. Can anyone lend a hand? Thanks much
Sprint stopped stocking the hero over the summer I don't even think radio shack has it anymore

Kroger Grocery stores sell them for their I-Wireless prepaid cell service(which is by sprint).

He's actually more interested to see if Assurion still has refurbed Hero's. Send Hero in on TEP and hope for an upgrade. Anyone send there's in lately?
Also, just reflash CM7 (there's probably been two or three upgraded versions since your last flash) and that might solve some of the need to reboot. But really, just tell J she owes you a phone and make her buy you the Touch!
Sprint htc hero at walmart 48.88 with 2yr.
I know cos i was just there lastnight buying gow3. As for sprint or whoever, idk

lol! Thanks B. She's actually mad that I'm trying to do everything possible from having to buy the damn thing for full price. Is she great or what?! I'll reflash Friday...maybe. Have any plays that day? Maybe we could get together?
And yes, to all others, he's correct that I want to know if they're still refurbing them. I wonder if I could just call and ask?

Don't know why you couldn't call and ask, not like they are going to track ya down and send an assassin for asking.
I work at Sprint. I want to say no, especially since if you were to send in an HTC Evo 4G to Assurion, you'd get a 3D back (100% sure). But I did have one customer with a Hero come in with his refurb Hero with the plastic still on it and everything and have me transfer his stuff to it.

I called Assurion yesterday and they couldn't give me an answer as to what phone I'd get in return. Then again, I'd have to pay $100 to get said mystery phone anyway.
IF you go to phoneclaim.com, and fill in your info, before you submit the claim, it tells you what you will get. But you do have to pay $100 this way. If you take it to the Sprint store, and they have to order a replacement phone, you won't know what you get until the tech pulls it out of the envelope. That's how I went from the Evo 4G, to the Evo 3D. But don't be shocked if you get another Hero.
Just took mine into sprint last week. They replaced it with another hero.
They did give me a couple other phones that I could get instead (for free and without using my upgrade... which I've been eligible for for over a year) but I would have to add the $10 data to my plan.
No thanks, took the hero and it rooted and running heroc before I got home.

+1
That's exactly why I haven't upgraded also! $10 extra! No way. Long live the hero
V's CDMA Hero
It depends on what they have in stock at the moment you order, so it can change by the hour. And on phoneclaim.com you can see what Asurion is offering before you confirm the order. So you can cancel the order if you don't want the phone.

Verizon doesn't sell new revolutions anymore but they do have refurbished ones that they will push on him. I have seen stories in these forums of people who went to the store and put up enough of a stink about their revolution that they got a different phone. However I think most of them were on their second or third replacement.
yeah iv seen that myself first hand but hes not the kind of guy to make a stink over things. thanks for the help and replay. im talking about asuron (spelling sorry) what would they give? a refurb? or something else?
All depends on the problems really. Usually they'll just give a replacement.
thanks not what he wants to here but we will try thanks for the help man. please mods get rid of this
I went through 3-4 Revos before they sent me a different phone. Good luck with whatever happens.

Verizon does not handle the insurance. Asurion I believe does. They most likely have plenty of Revolutions in stock. What he will most likely get is someones factory reset POS. They don't actually fix the phones you send back. If they boot, they wipe em and re-flash them. they do a few quick tests then in the bin it goes for warranty and insurance replacements.
i never knew of them giving you a different phone, just tell him to root and flash a custom rom and the phone will be better than a new one
