I am a noob in this android scene. The most closest experience I have had to this is moding PSP's(done so many can't count) bricked and unbricked as well.
I got my SGS this week and the first day itself i started to see how i can make it better.(had seen a lot of vid in youtube). Some problems i faced initially was:
1. the 3 key hold to go into recovery mode just wont work for me so i used the easy reboot recovery script.
2. Intially i tried a couple of roots which would give me errors like it failed to run. The phone came with DDJG4 and i was able to get Superuser 2.3.1 was able to update SU database to V5 from android market.
3. Installed Ryan ZA lagfix 1.6.0 from market and now I am able to get a quadrant score of 2172. Earlier it was around 900.
What I want to do now is to have 2.2 froyo on it. I want feedback as well as help. Feedback as in is it worth it? How do I goto 2.2 custom and which one? where do i get rom and which custom one to go for. I have been seeing so much of stuff on the internet that i am a little too much confused. All help appreciated and thanks for your post.
DO NOT INSTALL FROYO! you will brick or have problems. Read all the people who installed Jpc and prev betas. Seriously. Im sick of people asking for help after installing froyo who have not done their research as to how much problems it has. Also your phone had download disabled. If you screw up there's nothing anyone can do other then tell you to get hair dryer and heat the thing up. Also don't ask me about that as im not stupid enough to install unofficial froyo

how to revert back to DDJG4... cant find ne thing...
Alright folks i am so sorry had been away! I am really sorry i did not check the posts however was really restless to see flash 10 so I ended up using odin to get into I9000ZSJP2 I used paul's rom with clockwork mod from modaco.
It was real laggy and the ryan fix also dint help much. So I downloaded the OG DDJG4 as well as I9000XXJPC. Wanted to give one last try as had seen a lot of youtube vids of it being the most stable one out there.
Frankly it worked like a charm. I used it for couple of days it had all the features working. I even rooted it the way told in xda here. by using odin and couple of files. I restarted it many times and had no issues.
Suddenly this is the problem when i switched it off to switch my sim. The phone starts goes to Galaxy S logo and stays there for like 2 mins and then it goes black.
None of the recovery mode combo and download mode combo work for me hence I had to use script.
The script also dont work now over USB. I tried removing sim and sd card. How do i get back to JG4. all help appreciated. I am sure i am not going to froyo until final build if i get this fixed.

ok i had froyo jpc and then easily went back to eclailr build because of bugs and then went to the hk jp2 which i love. yes he can have issues but bricking the phone is hard with odin if you follow the instructions
I dont think mine is brick eh! i can still turn it on. Its more like a no boot. Brick is a no post
I tried both JP2 and JP3 and they were OK at best since they were in early beta and inspite of speed, they were unstable and very unstable. I would say they are good to play around a bit but definitely not for daily use.
If you still want to get your hands wet, you can try Doc's RomMod Froyo V2 + Superlite (I9000XXJPC) 9/9/10
But as every one is saying already, stick to the current ROM and wait for an official release from Samsung.
Just don't forget to install a lag fix.
And don't worry about bricking, it's very hard to brick your phone, so go ahead and give a try and play around to know your device better.
Enjoy the SGS!
Thx mate.. needed some emotional support on this one.. well i have to report officially I could not get my phone working and recognized by Odin. The guys at samsung service center also gave up after looking at it for 30 mins. I have to say.. they knew less than I did about the phone. I have said its less then 7 days so either they fix software of I replace the phone. Thats how it works in india and guess what I went on the 7th day I read a lot of peps here sayin if the phone does not go into recovery or download by key combo it is getting replaced. I am going to post soon what happens. Until then keeping my fingers crossed and prayers.
PS: another guy in my office has SGS and he is able to go to recovery and download so its not like an all india thing.
I got my phone back last week they replaced it with another one with JG4
Which City do you live in? I have a Bricked phone and I am thinking of getting it replaced.

Can someone please help.
Noob here in flashing ROM. I have successfully flashed 2 ROM's and failed miserably with one (Serendipity 4.3).
Trying to see if anyone has some input/suggestions.
Day 1 -- Read, Read, Read spent 3 days, about 12-14 hrs a day reading
Day 4 -- Tried Serendipity 4.3 as my first ROM flash after going back to stock with odin and master clear -- After reboot anything i do with the phone, it freezes. Absolutely drove me crazy, I really like the theme, features etc... So i thought i was doing something wrong. Tried again, exact same problem. 4.3 freezes badly.
Day 5 -- Went back to stock, odin
Day 6 -- Downloaded Cezar's Continuum 2.0 ROM, Installed, worked perfect. No issues, good gps lock, calls never fail, awesome awesome.
Day 7 -- Flashed Cezar's new theme-- voila, awesome multiplied instantly by 10 times, very very kool.
But, wait, Continumm doesn't have Swype.
Day 8 -- Try Serendipity 4.3 after Odin to stock, fail again.
Day 9 -- Read, read again
Day 10 - Download Perception 10.2, Odin to stock, install, working smooth since last 3 days
Day 11 -- Reading to find help if I am missing any steps for Serendipity 4.3
Day 12 -- If nothing works, will go back to Continuum 2.0 with Sensation theme.
Is anyone having issues with Serendipity 4.3 install ?
Things can do --Can root without looking at instructions, very familiar with unix so adb commands not a biggie. Always used reboot download. Easily work with TiBU, CWM, switching kernels using SGS etc.
Should i spend time on it or move on trying other ROM's like di11igaf's 5.3 which just came out or Firefly or Phoenix etc. Is this a symptom of ORD
Thank you for your input.
Sagi
Mods : Sorry, just realized, posted in wrong forum, can you please move it to Captivate Q&A.
You should use a ROM that works. In this case, you seem to really like Cezar's, so use that. No one says you HAVE to use Serendipity. If you do want to try Serendipity, try reflashing after you flash it the first time if problems come back, sometimes it just doesn't flash properly. I actually just reflashed 4.3 yesterday with no problems after testing out a few other ROMs for an hour or two (was that bored ).
Your phone hates OC/UV. Those other two ROMs are not OC/UV, while mine is. Swap the zImage with the speedmod one, and delete the Voltage Control app.
Or, wait for 5.0 where I'm switch to speedmod anyway.

Mike,
First, thanks for your efforts with Serendipity.
Is it really possible that some phone can hate oc/uv ?? I guess, i need to read more.... .
I will give it a try soon to swap with Speedmod and delete the VC app.
Good to know you are cooking 5.0, I promise, i'll give it a shot as soon as it is out. I like all the things you have in your rom. Any guess when it might be out..
Thanks again.
Serendipity 5.0 is smoooth.
Mike,
Guess what, I am on Serendipity 5.0 now and it has been working perfectly and it is fast.
Thank you, thank you.
Hello. As you can see from the title, I am stuck at the sgh I897 bootscreen. No matter what rom I flash I still get stuck unless i flash ultimate 7 tims tweak which I don't want because TiBu keeps erroring. I've tried Odining a thousand times. Oh and did I mention i'm leaving for vacation in 3 hours? Yea so time is kinda a factor. I'm not freaking out if you get that tone from this thread, but i'm kinda aggrivated, as this is the last thing i need to worry about. Any help is appriciated, and if you have the time, throw in the name of the best battery life on what rom just in case I get stranded in the desert and my phone has been on for 24 hours lol.
You are going back to stock but other roms won't install
Yes. I odined and then I flashed some Roms from my SD like I always do and then it got stuck.
EDIT: I flashed continuum, darky's and serendipity and they got stuck. But I flashed Andromeda, and it worked.
How long are you getting stuck for because some roms take a little longer on the first boot due to file conversions and initial install.
Longer than normal. About half an hour before I lose patience.
Hiya guys.
I've searched the forum as much as I can to try and solve my problems and it's got me so far but I can't find any more information to get my phone back working properly so though I'd bite the bullet and make a thread. If the information I require is actually lurking out there then I apologise just please point me in the right direction.
Here is my story.
Right I rooted my device through some video I followed on youtube (I cant post the link)
I think it successfully (as far as I know) rooted my SGS.
So with my newly rooted SGS I downloaded Darky's ROM and followed the instructions in the guide to flash it onto the device.
In the end it failed and the phone powered off and wouldn't power back on.
Panic Ensued.
I have since got my phone back into the download mode and flashed froyo 2.2 (I downloaded from some link on this site) it said it was successful but now it won't boot past the Samsung Galaxy S logo.
Please help?
Thanks alot in advance.
try to do a factory reset in recovery (sometimes it works)
and another thing, it may be that the froyo rom you downloaded was bad or something..
try to use this one with odin if the factory reset wont work. i know this one works.
Flash as PDA using Odin with repartition enabled and 512 pit
http://sourceforge.net/projects/teamhacksung/files/galaxys/GT-I9000_FROYO_FULL_PDA.tar/download
that one fixed my friend phone when something slimier happened to him.
Right thanks alot mate don't know what the hell happened but left it off and just turned it on and now it's working fine!
Scared me a little that I nearly bricked it but I really wanna try installing a new rom but don't wanna break it again :S
Just read the flash instructions and you won't have any problems.
Sent from hell to take your soul
When you flash it can take up to 10 minutes for the 1st boot, so go have a cup of tea and be patient!

Ah right that was my first time so it might have just been me being impatient and thinking it wasn't working because it had been broken.
Also just wondering, the link I downloaded this Froyo ROM from (from another thread on here, can't find it now) is it custom or stock?
Heres some details...
Firmware version
2.2.1
Kernel version
2.6.32.9
[email protected]#36
The phone feels much snappier than before!
I'm new to all this ROM/flashing bees wax so just wondering.
Thanks muchly!
If its from some thread on here its custom some how some way (unless you just changed the kernel - which is speedmod - a very popular one - from your details.
G
Yeah it's off here from a thread I was reading on how to sort my phone being stuck in download mode.
Is it alot faster than the original rom I was running then?
Hey guys, n girls
I had my phone up and running sweet. I have been building and testing my next new release of my own ROM and did incrimental changes to it. I took note of these to do them manually again if needs be...but I took a complete system dump of my phone so I could work from that with my base. I took a nandroid backup aswell.
What would make a phone after attempting to flash my own ROM...want to bootloop like it is? I used the kernel cleaning script. I tried adding just the changes I wanted to the base ROM of OneCosmic's.
Nothing will flash? I even went back to my Nandroid backup complete wipe cleared everything and tried to restore my phone from where it was working perfect yesterday and STILL it bootloops? How is that possible?
I am getting seriously pissed off and I almost want to smash the damn thing. Its not the first time this has happened either, nearly every time I go to test I have to incrimentally install from JVT, CM7 to FuguKernel, RC1...kernel again, RC2, RC3 and then RC3.1 before the phone becomes opperational again? There has to be something seriously wrong with this?
I am about to scrap it all and take my phone and get TeamHackSung and put al my mods in to that....maybe that ROM is more stable for mods?
