[Q] Galaxy S Problem...(S Logo Boot) - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hiya guys.
I've searched the forum as much as I can to try and solve my problems and it's got me so far but I can't find any more information to get my phone back working properly so though I'd bite the bullet and make a thread. If the information I require is actually lurking out there then I apologise just please point me in the right direction.
Here is my story.
Right I rooted my device through some video I followed on youtube (I cant post the link)
I think it successfully (as far as I know) rooted my SGS.
So with my newly rooted SGS I downloaded Darky's ROM and followed the instructions in the guide to flash it onto the device.
In the end it failed and the phone powered off and wouldn't power back on.
Panic Ensued.
I have since got my phone back into the download mode and flashed froyo 2.2 (I downloaded from some link on this site) it said it was successful but now it won't boot past the Samsung Galaxy S logo.
Please help?
Thanks alot in advance.

try to do a factory reset in recovery (sometimes it works)
and another thing, it may be that the froyo rom you downloaded was bad or something..
try to use this one with odin if the factory reset wont work. i know this one works.
Flash as PDA using Odin with repartition enabled and 512 pit
http://sourceforge.net/projects/teamhacksung/files/galaxys/GT-I9000_FROYO_FULL_PDA.tar/download
that one fixed my friend phone when something slimier happened to him.

Right thanks alot mate don't know what the hell happened but left it off and just turned it on and now it's working fine!
Scared me a little that I nearly bricked it but I really wanna try installing a new rom but don't wanna break it again :S

Just read the flash instructions and you won't have any problems.
Sent from hell to take your soul

When you flash it can take up to 10 minutes for the 1st boot, so go have a cup of tea and be patient!
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App

Ah right that was my first time so it might have just been me being impatient and thinking it wasn't working because it had been broken.
Also just wondering, the link I downloaded this Froyo ROM from (from another thread on here, can't find it now) is it custom or stock?
Heres some details...
Firmware version
2.2.1
Kernel version
2.6.32.9
[email protected]#36
The phone feels much snappier than before!
I'm new to all this ROM/flashing bees wax so just wondering.
Thanks muchly!

If its from some thread on here its custom some how some way (unless you just changed the kernel - which is speedmod - a very popular one - from your details.
G

Yeah it's off here from a thread I was reading on how to sort my phone being stuck in download mode.
Is it alot faster than the original rom I was running then?

[Q] Moding and installing custom 2.2 India

1st A big Hiiii from India.
I am a noob in this android scene. The most closest experience I have had to this is moding PSP's(done so many can't count) bricked and unbricked as well.
I got my SGS this week and the first day itself i started to see how i can make it better.(had seen a lot of vid in youtube). Some problems i faced initially was:
1. the 3 key hold to go into recovery mode just wont work for me so i used the easy reboot recovery script.
2. Intially i tried a couple of roots which would give me errors like it failed to run. The phone came with DDJG4 and i was able to get Superuser 2.3.1 was able to update SU database to V5 from android market.
3. Installed Ryan ZA lagfix 1.6.0 from market and now I am able to get a quadrant score of 2172. Earlier it was around 900.
What I want to do now is to have 2.2 froyo on it. I want feedback as well as help. Feedback as in is it worth it? How do I goto 2.2 custom and which one? where do i get rom and which custom one to go for. I have been seeing so much of stuff on the internet that i am a little too much confused. All help appreciated and thanks for your post.
DO NOT INSTALL FROYO! you will brick or have problems. Read all the people who installed Jpc and prev betas. Seriously. Im sick of people asking for help after installing froyo who have not done their research as to how much problems it has. Also your phone had download disabled. If you screw up there's nothing anyone can do other then tell you to get hair dryer and heat the thing up. Also don't ask me about that as im not stupid enough to install unofficial froyo

DDJG4 is gr8 .. dont try to install any Froyo build as of now.. i have tried all and have experienced a lot of issue and reverted back final to DDJG4 ... wait for the official release or mess things up as u like.....

how to revert back to DDJG4... cant find ne thing...
Alright folks i am so sorry had been away! I am really sorry i did not check the posts however was really restless to see flash 10 so I ended up using odin to get into I9000ZSJP2 I used paul's rom with clockwork mod from modaco.
It was real laggy and the ryan fix also dint help much. So I downloaded the OG DDJG4 as well as I9000XXJPC. Wanted to give one last try as had seen a lot of youtube vids of it being the most stable one out there.
Frankly it worked like a charm. I used it for couple of days it had all the features working. I even rooted it the way told in xda here. by using odin and couple of files. I restarted it many times and had no issues.
Suddenly this is the problem when i switched it off to switch my sim. The phone starts goes to Galaxy S logo and stays there for like 2 mins and then it goes black.
None of the recovery mode combo and download mode combo work for me hence I had to use script.
The script also dont work now over USB. I tried removing sim and sd card. How do i get back to JG4. all help appreciated. I am sure i am not going to froyo until final build if i get this fixed.

ok i had froyo jpc and then easily went back to eclailr build because of bugs and then went to the hk jp2 which i love. yes he can have issues but bricking the phone is hard with odin if you follow the instructions
I dont think mine is brick eh! i can still turn it on. Its more like a no boot. Brick is a no post
I tried both JP2 and JP3 and they were OK at best since they were in early beta and inspite of speed, they were unstable and very unstable. I would say they are good to play around a bit but definitely not for daily use.
If you still want to get your hands wet, you can try Doc's RomMod Froyo V2 + Superlite (I9000XXJPC) 9/9/10
But as every one is saying already, stick to the current ROM and wait for an official release from Samsung.
Just don't forget to install a lag fix.
And don't worry about bricking, it's very hard to brick your phone, so go ahead and give a try and play around to know your device better.
Enjoy the SGS!
Thx mate.. needed some emotional support on this one.. well i have to report officially I could not get my phone working and recognized by Odin. The guys at samsung service center also gave up after looking at it for 30 mins. I have to say.. they knew less than I did about the phone. I have said its less then 7 days so either they fix software of I replace the phone. Thats how it works in india and guess what I went on the 7th day I read a lot of peps here sayin if the phone does not go into recovery or download by key combo it is getting replaced. I am going to post soon what happens. Until then keeping my fingers crossed and prayers.
PS: another guy in my office has SGS and he is able to go to recovery and download so its not like an all india thing.
I got my phone back last week they replaced it with another one with JG4
Which City do you live in? I have a Bricked phone and I am thinking of getting it replaced.

[Q] SGT: SPH-P100 Yellow brick roaded

First, MODS: I apologize if this is posted in the wrong thread, but I can't find anything along the lines of help I need, and since I started here, I was thinking I'd end here... Please move if necessary.
So I have recently learned that not all Android devices are as easily rooted/modded as my EVO (rooted my GF's Optimus S, and ended up on the couch for months, and around the same time, rooted the Sprint SGT she got me for X-Mas, and have only gotten the Optimus S working again, but remain on the couch for bricking my SGT).
I am in dire need of help getting my SGT back to stock (if that's even possible) or at least back to rooted with a stock ROM. I rooted my SGT in preparation for the Honeycomb port (which was apparently a bust(?) and after flashing that port, then Boushh's AOSP ROM, I can boot to download mode (with neither Heimdall or Odin reognizing the device) or I can attempt to boot to recovery and get nothing but the Samsung splash.
I have all drivers installed, and I PROMISE I have learned my lesson, and should have never rooted to begin with, but if ANYONE could please help me get my SGT back, I would TRUELY appreciate it!
I have just recently gotten semi-familiar with ADB again (Optimus S fix) but I'm not really in a place to start pushing commands without guidance.
I'm sorry again if this is the incorrect thread, I didn't know where else to post, but I REALLY need help. We really couldn't afford the SGT to begin with, so I feel horrible that I've bricked it, and can't do anything with it anymore.
Sorry to be a gnat...

No worries buddy, I know how it feels, since you posted already here's how your proceed:
1. get Odin 1.7
2. if you want stock, go to samfirmware.com and download the ROM corresponding to your device
3. Bear in mind that most stock ROM are shipped with locked bootloader, if you don't care skip step 4/5
4. download super one click root from shortfuse.org
5. root your device and either get a ROM with removed bootloaders or get the bootloader patch by chainfire, found in this forum somewhere
6. While being in the "yellow" screen flash using odin
Hope this helps.
He has a cdma tab. Sprint right?
Try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=969892&highlight=sprint+stock
As your last resort. If not go back to sprint tell them tab isnt switxhing on.
How about flashing a kernel that installs cwm?

As long as you flash the no modem software you are good. That is the key. No modem.
Probably a driver issue if it's not being seen in ODIN.
if its not seen it doesnt matter either, you turn off and turn on again, you'll see a black screen with some kind of logo, then I usually flash a rotohammer release, this is always the life saver

Usually when having both, Odin and Heimdal installed, one of them needs to be removed...

Yup. ODIN takes a separate driver that conflicts with heimdall and vice versa.

Hi I can't even enter download mode after my Odin update failed. It's just a black screen and when I plug it into the computer it's not recognised at all.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

Really need help please. From 2.3.4 to Slim ICS

Thought I wasnt such a noob but appearantly I am.
Went from stock 2.1 on Captivate to Serendipity 5.x then later to 6.0, 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, 6.4 No hickups, havn't messed with it since. Finally decided to upgrade to slim ICS.
after a ton of hickups, finally got CM7 on the phone just to get stuck in a bootloop. Tried wipes (Dalvik, system, cache) as recommended on forums and got stuck on splashscreen. After trying tons of stuff ended up with stock 2.3.4. , which is now rooted. and after scouring the forums have no idea where to go from here.
I tried Rom Manager & RM Premium (I selected i9000 as I am guessing that is the corrrect one for captivate) to get CWM but the CWM flash install failed, so I just refunded it
Where am I now?
Rooted stock 2.3.4.
Kernel ver.- 2.6.35.7-I987UCKH3-CL461307
Build Number- Gingerbread.UCKH3
Odin won't see my phone
I have no CWM Recovery (looks like stock samsung recovery)
Where should I go from here?

try to install drivers again and first open odin after that connect device then odin will recognize the device
Im about to try ICS on my cappy. Im on GB 2.3.5. I will try slim or Turk's V5. However, if I dont like it, would a simple one click ODIN bring me back to GB easily? or is there more to it (because of kernals, or do a double flashing, etc etc)
Thanks

Depending on how you ended up at 2.3.4, you may need different drivers in order for Odin to see your phone.
I used Heimdall after an unsuccessful update from Slim 2.7 to 2.8 and had to use Heimdall to get out of a similar bootloop. It left me without CWM and a computer that cannot detect my phone.
Since Heimdall worked but I knew I needed CWM, I found a Heimdall package from Apex that contained CWM (post #3, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1300843).
Not sure this address your needs but hopefully it will help

This is where I found it:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18370912&postcount=3
Once you open the package, it flashes the ROM the first time through and then gives you the option of flashing gingerbread bootloaders on a second flash. I did not flash bootloaders since I was already on gb. The ROM itself, Apex 12.4, is actually pretty good.
Based on my experiences recently, ending the bootloop, solving a softbrick, and upgrading to CWM (thanks AdamOutler!, I actually am less nervous about using Heimdall than I am Odin but it just does not seem to be as popular as Odin. The major drawback of Heimdall is the different drivers.
Good luck.
OMG i got the biggest scare, after attempting to flash the kernel it got stuck in the 'establishing connection' stage. After 30 mins I pulled the plug to make another attempt. I got a screen I have never seen before:
had a computer and a phone pic with big yellow letters:
"Upgrade attempt Failed. Try recovery mode"
no problem. Hold volume buttons, power on.... same screen. 3 times same thing. OK no problem lets try download mode, same thing. After some googling I finally found a similar poster that basically said the screen actually serves AS a download mode, and that he tried 6 times before the flash took. I got mine after 3 more attempts.
Tried to flash slimICS from there, failed and aborted..
So, from here I guess it is mandatory to flash CM7? or do i have to go to 2.3.5 first?

I cannot answer that question about needing CM7 or 2.3.5.
I know that I went to Slim ICS from Fusion ICS without any problems. The procedure for Fusion seemed tailored to their ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1233979). I remember being a little nervous about "pull battery at android and triangle screen..." but it worked out fine.
I have to decide whether or not to go the Fusion route or this way (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22335637&postcount=10).
OK, I finally got it installed, OMG it's amazing ^^
To answer my own questions for anyone else it may help.
No, you don't need to go to 2.3.5. I just went to CM7 (build 16) and that gave me the rest of the updates I needed to jump to slim ICS 2.8
Thank you for all your help !

Help! Just a bit confused !!???s

Hey folks new to this house and it seems like you folks know what you are doing. Big thanks to the developers of the Paranoid (2) devs. and all of the support peeps out there through the post. Read through themes and roms section but I not seeing answers to my confusion. Looking for some help understanding the features described above and how to get the most out of it..very cool though..just would like to know how to really put it to the test! I was able to get this far from the original FW to gingerbreak, to ICS to Paranoid based on the threads her and I appreciate it much folks..now I seem to be at a brick wall..need help trying to figure this out. I appreciate that the phone isn;t the latest thing on the market but it what I have right now. Would appreciate any and all help just trying to get a grip on this puppy! Thanks Smitty
Oh, every time I see something that looks like it should work on my phone besides not knowing how to install..LOL why does it come up Nexus! Are they similar phones or something!! Thanks again
What's on the phone as of now!
Samsung captivate SGH I897
Android Ver. 4.11
Baseband 19000XXJVU
Kernal: 3.0-.31-01749-gf84bc96
Cyanogen Mod: 10.0.0-RCO-capitvatemid
Paranoid Ver. 2.16
Build# pa-capativate-userdebug 4.1.1 JR003R eng.
Now my question is I want to load on different roms to the phone and be able to go back and forth between these ROMS as I like. I have attempted to use Goo Manager ..that was loaded when I installed Pananooid Ver. 2.16. When I boot into recovery it states that mt recovery ver. is : CWM-based Recovery v. 6.0.1.4.
I was trying to load some of the roms that are a part of the Paranoid install and I when I choose from one of these options:
Browse compatiable rom
Browse all files
check for updates..(says there are no updates)
Download gapps packages
Root recovery
flash roms
Copatiable roms:
aokp/devs/aokp
BAKED /devs/BAKED
cm/devs/cm
LronLyons/dev/IronLyon
If I choose any of them you get another list and then another list..it says:
EX: aokp_captivatemid_jb_build-4.zip..just one example ..there are many listed below that as well for each of the roms listed above.
Then I see the file name as above and below that : Begin download and then below that Download Gapps..how do I know which one to download?
Under browse all files :
devs/devs
gapps/gapps
ruu/ruu
stock/stock..choose the first one and get a list of all these different names ..such as adhvanit/devs/advanit..in these cases are these all the groups who produce ROMS?
I also attempted to use ROM Manager( no clue) and it kept saying that I must have clockwork-recovery installed in order to flash a rom..I choose yes and it say I don't have it..but on my phone it says I have as listed above for the phone and what is on it: CWM-based Recovery v. 6.0.1.4. ..is this not what they are asking for..or is it that it is looking for one that is not CWM "based" but the really official ver. of CWM Recovery.
What I am looking for is an explanation of what I can now do with this phone the way it is and also how to load ROMS of different kinds that stay on my phone and how I go back and forth from one to another with ease. Additionally, how to put different themes on the phone and any other tricks that can trick the phone out. My bro and sister all went out and purchased new Galaxy S3 phones..I am keeping mine and want to "trick" it out as much as possible to" one up them"
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated folks..thanks in adv.!! Smitty
Thanks for the hlp bobbylx and TRusselo
Thanks bobbylx and TRusselo.....wanted folks to know that these bros. helped without hesitation and didn't give me a lot of BS when I had this emergency! I didn't get it fixed yet but they lent a hand and gave me some incentive and FYI..has a noob that means a lot to me! Thanks guys!!!! Smitty!!:victory: almost!!!
Smitty,
I no longer have the captivate so I'm not current on everything that's going on. If you can get into download mode I would find one of the stock roms that can be flashed via Odin and start over.
You'll have better luck post this in the QA section for captivate. Good luck,
Bobby

Boot into recovery, go to mounts and storage, then select usb storage, plug in phone, copy files. If that option isn't there, Odin flash back to stock.

Kernal: 3.0-.31-01749-gf84bc96
Cyanogen Mod: 10.0.0-RCO-capitvatemid
Paranoid Ver. 2.16
Build# pa-capativate-userdebug 4.1.1 JR003R eng.
Then I attempted successively to try Lanight 6.55 datadata and that went well too. I didn't like it and I thought I would go back to what I first had. I just went to restore and I didn't wipe anything clean from the Lanight and devil kernel that was apart of that installation. When I rebooted the phone has been stuck at the AT&T Logo and that's all I have. I can able to get to the icon with the lime green android digging a whole..however mate I have no clue what to do next because all of what I read says I need to get a file onto the phone ( the file from the forum you suggested) in the first or second state. GT-P1000 not booting.

Gents - looking for a little help....
Its always the same - try to do someone a favour....
I have my friends tab. It did have an old version of cyanogen on there (18 months ago or so) clockwork mod was installed.
Went to flash last night with cyanogen 10.1 and half way through the flash it powered off and then wouldnt boot (got stuck on the Galaxy tab splash screen)
Downloaded a stock firmware along with Odin to reflash and start from scratch.
Ive loaded Odin up and gone to flash the stock image but it gets stuck at "Hidden.rfs" - ive reset it a couple of times to try another usb and try again. On the second reboot (to try again) ive lost the "downloading to target" and now got a logo of a phone, exclamation mark and then a pc logo to the right. So, starting to get a little worried now....im trying again using odin but its still sticking at hidden.rfs but ill leave it and see what happens...
Its a long time since ive had one of these so if anyone could shed any light on it id appreciate it loads
Cheers
Comfy
A little further - got a stock image on there (i used the wrong one - i used a "carphone warehouse" version whereas i should have use the "O2" version - it went on but appears to be bootlooping at the moment.
This probably sounds like im talking to myself but ive spent most of the day searching for stuff - alot of links on here dont work, Anyway - im there - got to cyanogen 10.1.
1. From my semi-bricked state i used the odin and the o2 image from samsungfirmwares.com - this got me to a working tablet.
2. I then installed stock safe v5 using the odin again.
3. I found a file called "CF-Root-TAB7_XX_OXA_JQ1-v3.3-CWM3RFS" - this gave me Clock work mod 3.0.0.3 from memory.
4. Then able to install a zip file for cyanogen 10.1 - this includes TWRP (dont mind using either one as long as it works!)
5. Installed gapps and the kernel "CwM_CM10.1-humberos_kernel_p1-20130810" which gives me a 1.4ghz overclock
Ive posted this as this is the compressed version of what took me all day to find out - hope this helps someone on their google travels!
Comfy
Attention: the 1.4Ghz OC is very unstable in our tab...

For your safety will be better downgrade to 1,2ghz overclock.
