Overcome via Mac - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I tried searching for this, but could not find it. If the answer is somewhere, I would appreciate pointing me the right area.
How do you install Overcome ROM via Mac? The installation guides say to use ODIN, but there is no ODIN for Mac. Well, at least I couldn't find it.
Please help.
BTW, I'm all rooted, etc. (used the ./adb install z4root.apk) through the SDK/Terminal. I've already backed up using Titanium back up.
Any mac help would be greatly appreciated on how to install Overcome on Mac.
I tried the update/upgrade no wipe version, but it did not work. After rebooting I got a message that there is no "update.zip" file found, if I choose that from the clockwork recovery boot menu.
Thank you all in advance for any help.

Meh not b waiting. Read. Simple. Start with forum rules and then find a flashing guide on mac.. if one exists.. it shouldn't... blasphemy using apple to root Android ... just not right. Anyway then substitute PC (aka real computer) wih Mac (little poo toy) and you should be off and well off hopefully

I have to agree... It is possible to run heimdall from a mac, but since you can't really read anyways, I suggest against it...

Why don't you read first or do a search inquiry before cluttering the forum. also this sounds more of a Q/A topic. Heimdall is your answer if you would have searched and researched you lazy bum.

Are you serious? Thanks for making a judgement that I'm a lazy bum. I searched for 3 hours. Tried everything to get the signature error fixed. I've download version 1.3 of Hiemdall. However I get an error there too when I run it. Says something about a invalid file size in tar or something. Now I'm researching on what the hell that mean. But really thanks for helping. I do appreciate it

Mono is to run .NET apps, there's a OS X native version of Heimdall that runs just fine.

Don't be such a zealot. OS X is closer to the Linux OS that Android runs on than Windows is. Also, what's to say he's not running OS X on a "PC" (aka a Hackintosh). Android hackery is certainly easier via Windows but perfectly possible via OS X as is evidenced by the various devices I've modded on a combination of the two systems, plus some Linux modification for good measure.
I think by "PC" you mean "Windows".

[Q] How to Linux Flash

Ok, i've read and read, and read... I can not find out how to flash a captivate on linux. I'm running mint 9. I want to go back to full stock, original rom that came on the phone. How do I do this in Linux?
Odin one click downloader should be able flash your captivate to stock

I tried it, (under windows) and it went from what I had to JH2. I dont think I had jh2 to begin with, I think it was jf? something... The only reason I had to try and reflash it at all was one of the apps messed up and it started looping startup. So I went back to stock according to odin. Maybe I need to do it again, I may have done something wrong....
Odin is a linx one click fix, or I have to virtual box windows to do it? My wifes computer is the only windows machine in the house, and I hate messing with it, its tooo dang slow!
When I down load something to flash, its password protected. Format is .rar. I just can not open them. Is this right and the other software will open it, or do I need a password to open them?

Any firmwares that came from samsung usually have "samsung-firmwares.com" as password (no quotes).
On a side note, I need some linux type help. Playing with VMware player and ubuntu 10, but I'm very lost..... anyone wanna pm me with some help? Would be much appreciated...... and yes, i know thats off topic, but i'm desperate and people actually reply and help on these forums.....
I also use mint 9, similar to ubuntu 10. Pm me with basic questions, I don't know much outside of what you can do in gnome. What is it that you want to do in a vm? I use virtual box and recommend it. I use odin on dads win 7 machine though. I read that it doesn't work in vm but I'm not sure I believe that. Just haven't tried it yet.

depends on the rom,
some are signed and can be renamed as update.zip and flashed from recovery by toggling down to reinstall packages with the volume bar.
some are unsigned and need rom manager. from rom manager you reboot into clockwork mod recovery and install packages.
some need odin and are a teathered flash.
the easiest way to go is SRE v1.2.1a, aka "super rooter explorer" decide which version suits you from the sticky in the development section and download. it is signed and is run from recovery as update.zip.
the instructions are there, somewhere.
Thank you for the password!
Thanks for the help. I got odin working. I'm having trouble but I think I'm well on the way.
I was able to flash in virtul box. Read my thread in the dev section.

How to guide to fixing your phone triangle computer bricked vibrant.

I have solved this problem for me I am not sure if this will work for everyone.
I have used pieces from other users so I can't take credit for anything, just helping the community.
I realize there are others out there that claim to do the same thing however after spending 1/2 a day doing it those ways, none worked till I did this, that is why i posted this guide, for people coming from bionix 1.31 or similar roms and using one of those guides causing a soft brick issue, this is what flashed mine back to 2.2 official firmware from a bricked state.
this will also work to flash a phone back to stock to send back for warranty if it is rooted and voodoo'ed.
Please follow this guide exactly. If a step doesn't work try again from the start then do not continue as this won't work for you.
1. your phone looks like this
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
2. in this mode your phone will be seen by this version of odin here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=478059&d=1293895557
3. dl and install the odin program works on win 7 64 bit no issues.
4. dl this ka6 update (this is a factory flash for odin) http://www.multiupload.com/GZT6ZYFX46
5. extract the ka6 zip to your desktop and rename the (.tar.mp5) file to (.tar) change the extension only DO NOT CHANGE THE NAME! < this is the trick it will not flash any other way once this is done it will flash right through.
6. open the odin program.
7. connect the phone get it to the screen like the pic in step 1.
8. the 1st ID:com box will turn yellow and have some id numbers in it.
9. click the pda button under files select the .tar file you made in step 5.
10. it will display the link to the file on your desktop in the pda text box.
11. DO NOT CLICK ANYTHING OR RE_PARTITION THIS MAY NOT WORK>
12. CLICK THE START BUTTON ONLY>
13. DO NOT UNPLUG ANYTHING YOUR WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE>
14. THE PHONE AND ODIN WILL STRAT TO DISPLAY LINES THAT MOVE LEAVE THE PHONE TILL THE FIRST BLOCK ON THE TOP OF ODIN SAYS PASS IN GREEN!
15 your phone will reboot and everything will be back to stock 2.2
16. you may need to wipe your phone through the factory privacy menu reset again then all is stock.
Thanks to all the link I used.
If this works for you please click my tanks button and let me know.

I fixed this a little differently and without having to wipe my device. Figured this out after a bad kernel flash through odin. My vibrant had this screen and would not be recognized in any windows os on multiple computers with all kinds of drivers and many versions of odin.
You'll need a pc running linux. If you don't have one, temporarily boot ubuntu off a cd or usb (google it).
Install heimdall either from a binary package if your on 64 bit or compile from source like I did if you have a x86 system. We don't need the gui just the cmd application.
If you compile make sure you compile the libusb that comes with heimdall first. Also if your on ubuntu or a debian variant you will need to install build-essentials from apt or synaptic.
Now type the following command in a terminal window do not press enter:
heimdall close-pc-screen
Pull the battery from the phone put it back in and plug in the usb. Now turn the phone on and hit enter to run your command when the phone starts to turn on.
You may see the script start to run and fail or not work at all. There is a sweet spot to hit enter and run that full cmd. if it didn't work try again. Took me like five tries.
When successful your phone will just boot back into your rom as you had it. Though you may want to reinstall now since something clearly went wrong.
Hope this helps.

My phone had the PHONE!PC screen and I could ODIN it back to stock, in windows. Just search for PHONE!PC and there are PLENTY of guides to this. You've got to make sure you've got NO driver/device problems in windows for this to work.
Trust me its possible to put your phone in a state that windows will not recognize it. My post was meant to help those individuals. Thanks for your input though also.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
It should be mentioned that you can only flash from that screen with one of the newer SBL already on the device. Otherwise you will have to get into Download Mode to ODIN. I can speak from experience when I bumped the spacebar trying to get my device into Download Mode and ODIN began to flash away. Left me with an almost completely unresponsive device. If you are unsure whether you have flashed a ROM containing the newer SBL, then you are much safer getting into Download Mode as usual and going from there. Whether it be 3-button or a JIG.
I couldn't even jig. I solder for a living and made my own. No luck.

I think all Samsung phones running android can use Odin. You will need the correct .tar and .PDA files for the phone you are using as the vibrant ones will not work on any other phone. Don't quote me on this though, its just my guess.

ok so I did something really dumb...

ok so here's what I did to royally screw up things on my tablet. I had installed the latest Streakdroid ROM and wasn't getting any data connection at all though it showed on the taskbar at the top that I did. I decided I was going to follow the steps in the thread that had the instructions on how to bring back to factory settings so I can start fresh. I had gotten to the part where I was about to execute the fastboot command and my computer never detected that the tablet was hooked up at that point. Now when I go into recovery, I have the stock recovery loader that dell put in and the streakdroid rom's wifi doesn't work so I can't do anything at all. not even download a file explorer to install the rom manager or anything...i'm afraid that I've really screwed things up. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Seriously, do some reading before posting a common thread like this.
Yeah, seriously. If there were a common way to do it, I'm sure I would have found it by now. Instead, all I get are "super easy" ways which don't seem to work - some of which involve not even using a computer at all. So, with the three responses so far, two offer information and both seem completely different from one another - my point exactly. How would I flash a ROM without root to begin with? What's the deal with lagfix? Yeah, like rooting anything's that easy. Rooting has never been just a click or two away (as I don't expect it to be. I'm willing to put the time and effort into using ADB shell commands, etc.) Trust me, I searched a good 20 minutes or so before posting. I'll try and go off the leads you guys gave me. Thanks.

With Samsung phones, you don't need root to flash a rom. There's a closed source program from Samsung called Odin that allows you to flash a rom from your computer to your phone without root. There's also an open source software called Helmdall that does exactly the same thing.
Welcome to the world of Samsung Android phones. Enjoy your stay.

[Q] Is it possible to root via SD card?

Hello
My DS7 has a broken port (that plastic line right at the center of the port is chipped). It charges only if I insert the connector a bit crooked... but the device its not recognized by any computer. I've spent hours trying to do it with no luck.
I would like to root it and test some other roms. Is it going to be possible without being able to connect it to a computer? An SD method maybe?
Please help! I did search before posting this... couldn't find an answer.
Thanks!
Do you already have CWM installed? That basically answers your question.

Like TheManii said, if you already have CWM installed you should be in business, but the fact that you can't use the port for flashing is going to be hinderance if you ever need to NVFlash or adb anything. So I recommend to be VERY careful and do nothing without much thought
It's much, much worse to have a broken port on the S7 compared to the S5. As you can remove the S5's batt and charge externally.
Consider yourself lucky you can charge at all, otherwise it's already a dead device/motherboard.

Why not SDCard?
My other Android device.. the only way to root it was via the SDCard.. so I don't understand why a SDCard option is not available to the Streak-7.

so I guess there is nothing I can do right?
Pretty much all the stuff needed needs to be done via the cable. Now if you have 2.2 installed you can install Gingerbreak apk that will root it. Other than that, its sucks.
Well, some time has passed since I started this thread. I was wondering if maybe there could be a new solution for my problem?

First allow me to ask you this... do you know what root is, do you have any knowledge of adb commands, do you have the Android SDK and/or the Dell drivers on your computer and lastly do you understand the layout of the file system?
I can easily just type out the commands but I want you to understand the process
BUT I'm not sure this works... since you aren't rooted already I don't know if you can push files to the system folders

If you're on 2.2 froyo try using gingerbreak. Just do a quick Google search for it, and it will give you the XDA forum link for it.
