System rom. . . - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My system rom via titanium backup reads as follows:
System Rom: 334MB (40.9MB free)
Any way to free up more room? What can i uninstall?
Sent from HAL 9000

do not focus on it, it doesn't do anything , you don't have to delete anything to increase the size . just keep it like this
PS , it doesn't affect on anything speed nor process

Ram is the important memory.

Yeah..right, all important is the RAM.
Try search for TaskPanel XTRA in market. its the best RAM management I ever use.
Give it a try.

RAM

Hello,
Is there away to increase the RAM in this device? Or, is there even RAM inside. I'm just trying to think of ways to make it perform better.
Maybe I'm out of luck.
Thanks for any help though.

Try SKTools, it has a FreeUP RAM Service. There is a trial. http://s-k-tools.com/?m_freeuprams.html

How to help a little bit 2.3.4's memory hungryness

It seems that it hadn't been discussed before, and I find it very important. 2.3.4 stock ROM, and all the ROMs derived from that have the VM Heap size set to 48M, while at 2.2 this value is 32M. At normal usage 32M is perfectly enough, so I highly recommend to change it. The easiest way is to download VM Heap tool from market , its usage is obvious.
(Of course it requires root privileges.)
Why dont you simply add it in build.prop? Find the corresponding ling in dev forum.

Obviously it is possible to do this via editing build.prop - I suggested this method because it is easier for a non-advanced user. (VM Heap tool does nothing else than changing this value in build.prop and reboot.) (I couldn't find this issue in the forum, that's why I mentioned here.)
thanks for this advice
So this is interesting... But a few feedbacks from people who had done it would be very helpful. What would we gain if we do it, did it really help, is memory level better? I wanna try it but i played with my phone tooo much recently i am getting a little scared.

Sure, but I can only share my experience, others can share theirs
Currently I run Zeus 3.2 with all the LG options added, and free RAM is usually >100M, sometimes it goes down to cca. 80M.
I have LG launcher, some LG widgets (contacts, calendar, battery), Battery Spy running, sometimes the browser, GMail, LG Mail, other apps), so it can be considered heavy usage.
Actually the free RAM is 135MB. (uptime cca. 2 days.)

Micromax A87
I just bought Micromax A87 around 3-4 days ago. It's pretty good for its price. 1 GHZ processor for that price is pretty astonishing. But, if you have a better budget, I suggest you go for something better. But, if your budget is low, this is the best for its price range. It's got good looks, 1 GHZ processor, good touch and works smooth so far.
Although, 2 things I'm worrying about is, its internal memory and its RAM. Its internal memory is 200 MB out of which about 180 MB is available, which I think for the heavy apps now, is not enough. But, again with the help of useful apps we can transfer a lot from internal to the external memory. So, it's not a very big problem. It's quite manageable I'd say.
Now, for my main worry. It's RAM. According to their website, it's RAM is 256 MB. But as seen on my device, in the "running services" section, I have a total of 110 MB RAM as shown in the bottom. I'm not sure if I'm wrong about the fact that the results displayed there are the fact about the RAM's size, but I'm assuming it to be that as I've checked with more friend's too. Their RAM shown there are matching. Now, if I'm getting 110 MB of RAM, I think I can say that the RAM may be 128 MB. But it is pretty less for phones nowadays. On top of that, the bloatware present takes upto 100 MB of the RAM, after which I'm left out with only 10 MB of RAM. So, I can't run many applications, and especially simultaneously.
I am planning to root it to remove bloatware and see if I can make the performance a little better. So, if someone can guide me through the rooting process for this specific phone, it would be really helpful. I know the rooting process but I just want to cross check it with an experienced guy because I don't want to brick my phone. And, also I'm going to call up their customer care to clarify why I'm getting such low RAM space even though they've stated much more on their website. I will post here, when I'm aware of what the problem is.
But, I still say that for the cost, it is really good and worth it. Depends on your budget. If it's low, then this is the best. And, I'm sure it can perform better than W8, if you're planning to shift, with a less budget.
*" If someone can guide me through the rooting process for this specific phone, it would be really helpful "*
Thanks for details guide aashish

I check that phone specifications, there is no proximity sensor and accelerometer. Is it matter a lot for daily use phone??
Officially corp via w8
Welcome leecorp.
Actually, as per my usage till now, I've experienced the application of both accelerometer and proximity sensor. According to my knowledge, proximity sensor is the sensor which activates usually when we are in a call. The screen goes to sleep, when we get the phone near our face, so that our cheek or ear doesn't cause any interruption during call. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I've noticed this to be working with no problem at all. So, according to my knowledge of what it is, I would conclude that the proximity sensor is working fine. Now, for the acclerometer, according to me it's the sensor which detects the motion of the mobile in our hand. Like tilting or shaking, etc. Again, please correct me if I'm wrong. This is used many times while playing games. I've used an option in the settings which says "horizontal calibration", which uses the accelerometer to set the horizontal calibration. And, I also tried it and it works well. Also, I remember going through an option like, shake to change the song feature on the phone. I don't use it though. But, I remember seeing it. I can't tell you if it works but I think it does work as everything seen on this phone till now works. If you want me to check the working, I can do so and let you know. So, I think both the features that you're worrying about, works well. :good:
Also, just to update, I called the Micromax customer relations office and asked them about my RAM and Internal Memory. The figures I mentioned in my previous comment and quite wrong. My assumptions of the actual numbers were wrong. They told me that the RAM is 256 MB and that the OS takes a lot of it, leaving me with only 161 MB left. In which a lot goes to the preloaded apps leaving behind 35-50 MB of RAM space. But, if I root my phone and remove all the unwanted preloaded apps, I'm sure to gain much more space. Also, I'm planning to get a custom ROM for this, which is of smaller size than my OS now. So, by doing both I can gain a lot of RAM space.
And for the internal memory, they said that it is actually of 512 MB. Why we get very less space is because of the preloaded apps. Again, my solution is to root. Will remove as many as I can. It will give me much more space.
So, I hope this helped you gain more clarity about the phone.
Please help me get the rooting process for Micromax A87 ASAP. Any kind of help will be useful.

Well, it's really nice. I only charge in the night. I use wi-fi, mobile internet whenever I'm out, and many apps running. It comes down to 45-50%.
It actually depends on you're usage. It might come down a little more depending on your usage. If it's heavy I think it'll go down a little more. My usage is moderate i'd say.
On the whole it's not complainable.

When you speak of ram and it's usage you really should read up on how Linux manages ram..
You are speaking from a windows users point of view i believe. Windows has a completely different (and bad) way of managing ram from Linux.
Linux will grab most of the available ram and use it wisely (makes it look like you have little ram left).
Doesn't mean your system will run less efficiently - quite the opposite in fact..
Oh thanks a lot CtrlAltDelIrl !
I will look into it. I will hopefully find something now which can make me a little happy about my RAM.
But, I'm still quite keen on rooting it, just to make the performance a bit better. I hope someone helps me get a proper rooting process for my Micromax A87. Please update here if you do.
Thanks a lot. You gave me a new vision now. My bad that I forgot to differentiate between Linux and Windows. I forgot to let go my Windows habits and practices.

Only one way, Don't install unnecessary apps like widgets, battery saver, antivirus softwares. and if possible use custom debloated ROM (caution :it'll void warranty).
I think we can get our warranty back by resetting the binary counter and flashing your country's FW again and unroot.
Thank you

If you're playing games on your phone, moving them to sd will make them lag. Not faster. You can limit background process though for better multitask if you're having lags and not wanting to root.
Hope this helps.

Moving app to SD card will only increase loading time.It won't give increase performance.
In addition, you can try not to install many chat apps (ie: viber, line, wechat etc..) cause all of this always running in background consuming ram space and battery. Just whatsapp is enough. Well good enough for me though.
Thank you

But there're no debloated stock roms, only some customs with heavy theming.
Correct me, if I'm mistaken.
or you can root and de-bloat it yoursel, then un-root if you really want to keep it stock only.
Debloat by yourself mean to unninstall the apps that you dont need.
For example, i have only 98 apps from over 160 apps who came stock ROM.
Its only your choice what applications choose to erase from stock.
You have a guide in my signature with debloating ROM safe.

the phone is good and a great value for money after the recent price drop...
all games run quite nice with occasional lag and hiccups and thats due to lesser ram in the phone...if you are heavily inclined towards playing high end games i would suggest you to not go for this one buy a phone with atleast 1gb ram...
and one more disadvantage (not for everyone though) is that this phone is not really developer friendly and apple of every developer's eye out there due to chipset...
see for your priorities and make the decision..:good:

On jellybean with everything stock, it's likely that they will lag.
But dude read! This thread is not for buying advice! You can do enough research about this phone's performance if you would just search the forum.

RAM managment

guys i know you all heard for this app (Ram manager pro)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smartprojects.RAMOptimization&hl=en
but, i bet lot of you didnt notice a biiiiiig update...now you can swap your RAM on your internal, the fastest partition in our device (not even close to sd card class100)
but, im not sure about it, and i ask for help from developers or android wizz that know this method...
i noticed that this thing works, but, after you swap, you dont have space left...so, iv got partitioned my sd card, only to 256mb, just to check...and it really works again!
Again, but, you need to create swap file right after flashing fresh rom, so it (swap file) occupy internal memory at once! Cause, if you instal some apps, it will use sd ext, and probably go to sd card, wich doesnt make any difference in performance...
Once again, im asking for opinion of expert, to confirm this...
Im using latest jb4.2.2, and best way to check this is to play some game and to listen a music at same time : DIDNT GET FC OR ANY LAG!
tnx in advance
NOTE: don't create swap bigger than 128mb, thats our max internal
Does it really works? Because i used to swap too but it didnt make any difference in performance. The only thing i notice is my phone got hotter alot.....

Tried this last year .....the script was made by custdroid.....
Unfortunately the constant read and write on ROM is not so good for the hardware.. ...so I deprecated the project for mini also with such low internal memory I could create only 32mb swap on internal and the phone soon started yo take its toll ...you may try this but I am sharing my experience cause it may feel smooth for sometime but it reduces the life of your mini considerably cause ROM is supposed to non-volatile unlike RAM which is volatile...
