[Q] [HELPPPPPP] Captivate display - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So here's the thing
I have a Captivate and I currently reside in India.
And my phone got wet !
I could get rest everything working its just the display thats gone!
and the biggest problem is you cant get captivate display in India.
The guys here say that they can try to fix it by using the I9000 display.
Can it work this way?
NOTE:Its just the display and not the digitizer. The digitizer works perfectly fine cause I can receive calls etc etc.

It sounds to me that that wouldn't work. But if it says it does. Why not? If it screws up have them get a new phone for you

Well, the Samsung people dont want to fix my phone.
That guy is a dealer and a repairer who has contacts with Samsung.
And the problem part in ordering the screen is its for 110$ which is no big deal.
But then the customs in India are sick.
What if they confiscate the item and all!
That'll be a mess!
All money wasted!

when your phone gets wet, the first thing you should do is drop the battery out of the unit. Then remove the main-board and soak it in alcohol. After that, you can blow it dry with a hair dryer an once you're sure the water is out from under all the chips, turn it on.
If your phone is indeed fried, then you'll need a new mainboard... possibly the screen/digitizer as well.

[Q] Poor reception after screen replacement

Not sure if anyone can help with this. I've just replaced my SGS screen after bashing the original in a bike accident. (It's a genuine Samsung part)
Now I've found that phone reception is poor - it's always been a bit borderline in my flat, but after the repair I can't get my network (uk vodafone) inside. I can get it outside. Tried a few different modems without any improvement.
WIFI is fine.
I've opened up the phone again, and made sure all the little tabs are springy and making contact, and all connectors are in place.
Can anyone give me some advice on what else to try? I'm not sure exactly where the radio aerial is in these phones.
Sounds like some connector must be loose. Try a pm to iammodo, he's a samsung repair guy in blackpool. U can find his thread in the themes section. Hope u get it sorted.

Thanks guys. Have checked all the connections again. I'll try iammodo.
Just put my sim into my old blackberry, and have 3 bars - even when the SGS was behaving properly I had borderline reception here - a bar if I was lucky. Pretty poor show eh.

Check that its secured on the screen and the mainboard.
Apart from that return it and get a new one as its part of the screen.

Want to hard brick my phone.

Hi guys this is probably insane but my phone get deep scratches on all 4 sides because of a stupid cover so now I want to replace this phone and I think a hard brick is the only way so can u guys pls tell me how to brick my phone I m on stock 2.3.5.
And guys pls let me know that if I hard brick my phone thrgh your suggested method. HTC will replace and give me a new cell or not?

The only way I know of to properly screw your phone is to flash an incompatible radio, but even then I'm not sure that HTC will replace it. First time I've come across someone who actually wants to bork their phone!
Downgrade to froyo. That will completely **** it.
Edit: HTC will probably replace the motherboard, almost as good as a new phone.
For what I known (at least in my country) phones are replaced with a new one if it has less than 7 or 14 days, after that they will repair your phone...
A myth through the web say that you could screw you phone by putting it in the micro-wave for a few seconds (obviously without battery); some people tell that it's detectable, others not, others say only if you cook for long time...
Thank you guys but I want more and exact suggestions by which HTC can replace my cell not only motherboard...I m from india.
Does anyone have an exact idea and yeah one more thing how to flash a radio.

I would be carefull because if you mess up your phone htc could say that it was caused by you when you got the marks on the case as they say you dropped it even if you didn't.

I don't think its worth the trouble, of you deliberately brick it, they will either not fix it, or maybe replace the motherboard.
Maybe you can take it somewhere to get the casing replaced? You can buy that sort of stuff in eBay

Yeah, this is what happened to my IncS. It was little less than a month old when my wife dropped it on hard ground. The ambient light sensor went berserk, and the phone would restart every few minutes. Took it to a HTC center here in B'lore, and they gave me a new IncS In fact, I was given the choice to take any HTC phone for the same price.
Good luck if you decide on doing the same
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
HTC IncS, now on MIUI. Was on Cyanogenmod, VirtuousQuattro RC3/4, and something else before that
so they didn't ask why the light sensor went bad ? i mean does HTC replace a handset if it is damaged due to human error or natural causes?

I never told them I dropped it But of course, unlike in your case, my phone did not have too many scratches on it. Very few, actually. The only apparent problem with it was the light sensor.

i searched up google and it tells me that red dot is indicator of water damage to phone..... after drying up i can boot phone... it is turning on... i havent tested other functions cuz i found some more water so i left it to dry..........
i will take it to samsung tomorrow and hope for best...
Please take a picture of the red dot. I wanna see it.
And maybe we can put a waterproof sticker over the red sticker so that when the phone actually does fall in water it won't turn red. Then remove the waterproof sticker and give it to the service center.

Oh you are that Delhi guy. Remember me
And for your phone.
Did you tried downloading mode. If working flash the stock rom. Then took it to Samsung guys.
But I think you should let it dry first fully and try your luck.
Better try with a dryer after removing the battery.

Warranty is void anyway because of the awesome red dot stickers, so you could have told him since you'll be paying for the repair. But if telling CM7 is just an app worked then that is going to help a lot of Mini users claim their warranty. Thanks for sharing, man.

You referring to the current situation (Water damage, but Phone's working) or a fully bricked state.
And, they think Kies software would detect the Phone with a fully bricked state?
And if the phone is working, how much time would it take to look on "About Phone" section. From there, the Service Centre guys could easily detect whether Custom ROM is installed or not.

There is no waranty that covers water damage to the phone. Only phone insurance wich i doubt you have. If they inspect your phone, they will void your waranty because no matter how much you dried it, water leaves marks. Anyway, if the screen is ok and the phone boots up, you wont have to pay that much for the reparation.

You may be right that they can check in "About Phone".
But I have witnessed cases that the service center guys acts like totally idiot and can be easily fooled.
I think most of them don't have knowledge and they just do a GOOGLE SEARCH.
Once I told them to repair my headphones just after 7 days of purchase they asked me to give my phone, I asked Why?
They (she)replied: we have to check phone. She typed some number on the dial *#*#1234...something and some other number to get details.
I even asked them to upgrade it to gingerbread from froyo and i gave my phone.
Then next day I came to get my phone with repaired headphones
and those foolish! Mad ass people reflashed muy phone with what: froyo over froyo and i lost everything.
I asked (in anger) why did you reflashed with old one. In that they said gingerbread is not yet available.
As far as for flashing they surely used kies.

Galaxy S amoled screen broken but not the gorilla glass

Hey guys, my old and trusty galaxy S amoled screen shattered somehow, and I do not want to repair the phone as who knows the internal parts might die anytime?
Does anyone know of other uses for such a phone? Or is replacing the screen the only way out to make full use out of it?
It's interesting to see a phone model 2 years old still has so much development going on

If you're handy with things like this, a replacement screen is about $80, which isn't too bad. Pretty big pain to do it though. On the other end of things, if you're half decent with a linux terminal (or willing to learn a bit), ADB will be your best friend here.
EDIT: Also unless you mess something up internally or do something really wrong flashing it, it won't just die on you.

Hi, I had the same issue few months ago. At that time, I found that you can buy a replacement display on e-bay, but most users claimed it was not an AMOLED display.
Also, in my case, I was not able to connect to the phone by ADB.
For those reasons I then decided to send the phone to the Samsung repair center. The only problem was that they wiped the phone (they did a factory reset). However, I didn't loose any picture I have saved on the phone. The phone is happily working and running CM10 nightlies
regards,
marco
I have a broken touchscreen (still works but is badly scatert)
So can i only replace touchscreen?
So not can i just put a new lcd with touchscreen on it. (I have amoled one is it posible to put lcd on it?) Because i know amoled is a pain to.findd parts.

[Q] new digitizer, still not working!

hey guys, so i have the LG Optimus 2X, P990-HN, i'm with Fido (doubt it matters) anyway, there was a large crack in my screen, and i just dealt with it for a long time, but eventually the glass FELL OUT, the rest of it worked, but i couldn't leave it, so i ordered a new Digitizer from DealExtreme.com and it was about $50 CAD, reviews tell me it worked, googled it nobody else had complaints, so i doubt it's a fake or anything, all the way from singapore, i put it in and i can see everything clearly through it, beautiful, but zero response from the touch screen. none at all in any area, what could it be? also, if i take the screen out to re-seat it do i need to apply heat and completely remove it, and if so will that make it garbage and need a new one? will the heat kill it? i'm quite upset because it costed 50 bucks and took a long time to get here, and i finally put it in and it doesn't work, all help appreciated!
Have you tried the service center ? One probable way to check if the new one really works is to connect the old one back and see if touch works.. You might have accidentally pulled out some other connection .. just my guess

I have done this twice with OK success. It is important to connect all electronics correctly - check YouTube for guides. But even if you did all correct be digitiser might be defect. Either you being it to service centre or redo digitiser install. Maybe, you can check before closing the phone, and if not working correctly check with your old digitiser. Heating and reheating should be no problem (although nothing is without risk). Good luck.

hey, thanks for helping me out. i think the digitizer MUST be defective, i took it apart and put the old SHATTERED one in, and it works FINE, aside from you know... being shattered. then i plugged the other NEW one in, and no response from the touchscreen. the ribbon wire looks to be fine, the connection to the logic board was fine, everything was hooked up right (or the other one wouldn't have worked right?) so if i cant SEE anything wrong with a digitizer, what could even be wrong with it, it MUST be defective, but what can really be defective about a digitizer? what can go wrong on something with so little to break...?
Don't know what is wrong, but it must have been defect before you got it. Try to return it to the seller/shop as soon as possible and get your money back.
