[Q] Is my AMOLED screen defective? will samsung replace it? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Last friday, my phone started to have a pink tint near the bottom of the screen. Since then, this pink has spread across half the screen. I still have about 1 month on my manufacturers warranty, however, a few months ago i replaced my screen with an OEM one i found on ebay.
I did a bit of research and i found out AMOLED screens at one point had a pink screen defect on certain phones.
Has anyone encountered this problem?
Would you guys risk sending it into the repair depot for repairs? The customer representative told me if my phone is physical/water damage free, they will repair it under samsung's manufacturer warranty.
I don't want to lose 25 shipping it there and another 25 for the phone assessment only to find that it isnt covered...
Any ideas?

Dont worry friend...just send it to service center and they will replace it.Dont dealy, you cannot solve this problem by your own.
100% chances are that samsung will replace it.My friend also had such issue and samsung replace it and handed the phone in 3 days.In our country, you have to walk to service center to obtain warrenty. No shippibg here

my main concern is i replaced the screen on the phone once before (i did this myself using an OEM screen i ordered from ebay).
does doing this void the warranty...???
ive heard some depots charge at least $175 for the screen replacement...

if u changed the screen then how come ull get any replacement,i doubt it...go to a sammy center an replace the screen..u cant repair the pink or watever the screen as got...gudluk

the first screen needed replacement due to a crack. i knew samsung wouldnt cover the cracked screen so i replaced it myself. however, this time the OEM screen now has a tint of pink

Manually walk to a Samsung center and ask then that can this he repaired under warranty? If they say no ask them what cost they will take to repair it and if the cost ain't high go for it get a new screen ! Don't think a lot in such matters Coz at last u will have to get it repaired by some means! Hope I helped!

It will be good idea to walk manually to samsung service center.Dont tell them that in past u replaced the screen and also dont act like technical expert with them.Just behave as noob and i think you will have success

hahah behave like a noob and you shall recieve hahah
Sadly,i dont have a samsung repair center within walking distance. For me its actually 13 hour drive <- way.
The repair center requires me to send via purolator to their facility then pay them a 25 dollar inspection fee. They do no have walk in service.
This is why i wanted to ask for everyone's opinion before i invest another 50 dollars into something that has already failed me twice...

warrenty question

so i bought my tilt like 2 months ago..today at the gym..i dropped it..and cracked the screen..now the screen is completly white with a big ol' crack going through it...
my first question is..what kinda warrenty does att have/ what can i do to get this replaced?
number 2...i have a custom rom....but since i cant actually see anything on the screen..how do i go about flashing the original back so my warrenty isnt void? if i just flash it regularly would that work..and leave it on the phone without setting it up or anything??
thanks in advance
Broken Screen is "Physical Damage" & as such not covered by the Mfg's warranty.
Your choices are send it to a center for repair, buy a new device, or buy the LCD & digitizer & install it yourself.
If HTC repair finds the damage is your fault they charge $28 to fix anything not there fault. When you send it to them they ask for credit card number for this . I just had to send my phone back and this is what happened
Actually HTC will charge way more than $28 for things not covered by warranty (like "physical damage"). I spoke with a HTC repair person on the phone the other day and she told me that the average bill for repairs on the kaiser was $140 or so.

replacement screen and case?

Hey, I'm curious to know if anyone knows where to get replacement parts for the leo. I recently fell down a flight of stair and destroyed everything to do with my leo's outsides. The screen is trashed, and the case it bent. So, I need to replace it all. Any information would be greatly appreciate.
Thanks in advance.

When in doubt, contact HTC (And doubt some more)
It's been a few days since I first started this thread. Lots of views but no replies. So... I wrote HTC about it (on their website) and their response was quite unbelievably stupid.
I mentioned that I live in China, and that I'd like to know how I could have it repaired. I put in the serial number as well. They replied by telling me that my phone was sold in France and that I should go back to France to get it repaired, otherwise I can go to Hong Kong or Taiwan to get it repaired.
I am really curious what kind of person would write such a silly reply. As though plane tickets cost the same as cab rides, and the flight is only a hop and a skip away.
I've written them back and clarified the kind of help I am looking for (An address to send my phone to, and a quote for parts and labour) here's hoping they don't misinterpret it again and send me more bs.
Not much point to my writing this other than to say, if you need to contact HTC with a similar query, assume you're writing to an idiot and be as absolutely clear as you can. You may even want to suggest to them what is common sense, and not assume that they're going to think of the most reasonable method themselves.

Hi,
Sorry to hear of your accident.
If your phone is that badly damaged why don't you just claim off your phone or house insurance and get a new one? Sounds like this is much less hassle than trying to get it repaired.
I am assuming you have some form of insurance for the phone?

Or send it to HTC repair. I heard it will cost like €150 to repair.
Have a nearly same question.
My HD2 screen one day have a big black dot at the center. I give my HD2 to the local HTC service, they answer me that, they cannot give me a warranty because it's broken by pressing from outside into a screen.
So, if replace a screen will cost about 230USD.
I take my HD2, come home, search on eBay for the screen replacement. It cost only 80USD. Maybe it's a solution for you too.
Hi,
where did you get the replacement screen for $80?
Thanks.

I've had the same problem too a couple of times. Fortunately both times the dot disappeared after pressing the screen gently in various places. What's disturbing, though, is that I've had the phone for a week only and gone to great lengths to ensure it has not been under any physical pressure (or psychological, for that matter ). Have anyone else noticed this; is this a weakness with the phone or have I just been unlucky?
u should take it to htc service !
I've just dropped mine and accidentally closed a door on it, so now mine is full of scratches too.
I'll take it back to the service center in Taiwan when I get back there, though rather annoyingly that won't be until March at the earliest If the HK service center can do it though, I can drop it in there in Feb ... I wonder if their pricing will be the same ...
Hey guys I dropped my HD2 too and the screen cracked. I noticed that there are repair kits at around 80 USD. Anyone has any video or tutorial on how to replace the screen with the repair kit? Or has anyone self-repaired the screen successfully?
I'll have the chance to either get a new HD2 (and sell the broken one), the Hero or perhaps the Nexus One so I want to see if it is possible to do a cheap fix and get a new toy.

Warranty after a failure to boot.

So, a few weeks ago I accidentally dropped my Nexus on concrete and it spider-webbed the screen :/
At the time, I was too broke to send it to HTC so I sent it to another company for a screen repair. They repaired the screen and sent it back, but afterwards, it would not boot up. This did not happen before I sent it to them. So my real question is, would HTC warranty this, or would operating on the device itself for a screen repair (what the company did) void the warranty?
Check your warranty information through the company? I'd be furious if that happened to me. If push comes to shove, don't mention anything to HTC about it being repaired by thirdparty. What can it hurt if they find out, you already have a broken Nexus
If the company isn't HTC authorized then its prob voided, you should contact the company you sent it to!
Yeah, tell me about it. I am pretty furious. I bought it un-subsidized.
Unhelpful to you now, but def invest in screen protectors in the future, they can keep this crap from happening!

I have cracked my screen...internally

Does anyone know what I can do to fix it?...my screen is only showing colour lines with black lines in between on the top half of the screen only, thanks.
Edit: I am 99% pretty sure the LCD is cracked.
It'll cost you a fair amount of £ to fix that. You'll have to replace the display and the glass (since it's zero gap, and therefore they're in one piece).
See if there are any service centers near you and get a quote from them, but it'll be expensive. It'll almost be cheaper to just buy a new device (on contract, that is)

I have been to a few repair shops around my area, I got quotes for £180, £150 and £100.
One guy said it has to be opened internally and replaced.

Happened to me, Samsung replaced it, they took FIVE MONTHS to do it but they did (After almost entering with a process against the company). They said it costs R$700 to fix it here, but the phone alone (new) on the stores is about R$850.
Well, five months of wait, i won't buy a Samsung phone again, and the screen they placed looks **** (It its REALLY over-saturated, and darker colours look so **** that you can't imagine.)
Have you enabled this?
I managed to get my phone fixed, it cost me £160...I have my old screen unit if anyone requires it?

rooted phone cracked screen what to do?

I bought my phone earlier this month. Just now it feel off my table and the screen is cracked and not working. You can see the crack on the screen. What are my options here? The phone is rooted and you can see the custom unlock screen (if the screen was working). I do have insurance. Im still within the 15 day return period too. Im not sure if that matters

You can just fix it yourself, or pay a service to - google N3 lcd and see what your options are.
What was it doing do close to the edge of the table, and who knocked it off, (N3 doesn't move by itself) :silly:

First of all I'd compare the prices of having samsung repair it and insurance replacing it.
The samsung service center will fix it no matter what, but for a fee of course. About a year ago I smashed my S III's screen and sent it for repair to the service center in Texas. It cost me $170. In the end it's all a matter of how much time and $ you want to spend.
Do you know if your LCD is still intact? If it's not, I'd pay to have samsung repair it. LCD/glass assemblies are expensive last time I checked.
Repair glass only:

The return period is only 14 days and that does not cover damage caused by you.. The insurance will cover that but only after the 200 dollar deductible.
If you used kingo to ROOT then just use Kingo again to unroot and boot the device twice and the lock should go away.. Even if you rooted it does not void the warranty since rooting does not trip KNOX. Only changes that trip KNPX will void the warranty..
Please do not discuss fraudulent methods for replacement of devices, pay up, do the right thing.
And questions belong in the Q and A thread...so, thread moved.
these stupid Wacom digitizers have the glass completely stuck on with adhesive on the whole undersurface...it's a beetch to replace

You sure about that? When I contacted AT&T to get my phone replaced, the rep asked me if I was rooted, twice. I know you were talking about Samsung, but I always feel they are in cahoots with each other.
