I cant find vvm anywhere on cm6. or abbreviated dialing.
anyonw know where they are????
I'm pretty sure sprint's VVM won't work on the AOSP Rom's. To change your voicemail number, just go into menu>settings>call settings>voicemail settings, and change that number to your phone number. Then, when you hold the "1" in the dialer, or use a shortcut to voicemail, it should automatically dial your voicemail

Sprint VVM does work with CM 6 RC1 and Nightlies. Just do either the followings:
1) adb install sprintcore.apk
2) adb push sprintcore.apk to /system/app
Use the latest sprintcore.apk from the Sprint Sense 2.1 ROM then change your number per above instruction under setting menu.
To avoid the annoying text message every time you receive the voicemail:
-Install handcent sms and set it to retrieve sms automatically under its setting menu (use this as your default sms application)
-delete the aosp mms.apk from the system/app on your phone
that's how it work for me.
ok one more issue-
since i installed cm6-
everytime i get an email I get 2 task bar icons. One from google and one from the cm6 version of email.
With handcent installed, I get 2 txt notifications. One from handcent, and one from the android messaging.
this is highly annoying......

I did explained in my post how to get rid of the annoying message. Just delete the CM6's mms.apk on your phone under /system/app.
Or go to Android Messaging app and go to Settings > uncheck Notifications

Stop Google Voice txt msgs on CM6
dial *38 send, follow the prompts, if you hear a couple beeps and a click or two, you are finished, it was done automatically, i think it takes until the next day to stop completely
Big O, that's exactly what I am saying ... all I had to do was reinstall the mms apk that came with the rom

Yes I know that, but you will receive the annoying vvm text notification every time you got voicemail
I hope that Handcent can fix the problem. As of right now handcent can not send mms without the aosp mms.apk resided in system/app
What if you add that short code to your blocklist? I just tried it...

so i wanted to check my voice mail and when i hold down one from the dialer, it says voice mail on the screen but then i hear a recording saying the feature code is not valid...any thoughts?
So I've been lurking and learning a lot on these forums. I have tried 3 different ROMS (wiping everything in-between) and none of them seem to be able to send text messages that need to be automatically broken up into more than one message. Instead it just fails. Shorter messages send just fine.
I am currently running the newest Zen Aria release I downloaded from here on 9/2/10.
I Had the same problem with CM 6 and another ROM I can't remember. I was hoping Zen would fix the problem since it is a 2.1 release with Sense.
Any ideas as to what I need to do to fix the problem?
Thanks from noob.
Are you using the stock messenger? If so, try Handcent. I know that it will send 160+ character messages on CM6, as I just sent a grocery list to the wife.

Thanks for the quick reply! I just tried Handcent, nice program. Unfortunately, I still would get a failure notice whenever I tried to send a message with more than 160 characters. Any more ideas out there?
In Handcent, do you have the option turned on to split 160+ character messages?
Menu -> Settings -> Send message settings -> Split 160
By default I believe this is turned off, so you have to turn it on.
This is a known issue that occurs on any rom except for cdma based sense roms. The Aria port is from a gsm phone, the frameworks are different. The cdma hero roms have something in the background that auto splits messages, AOSP and GSM ports lack this built in functionality so you must use handcent or chomp and turn on splitting in the options.
So I wanted to see if it was a problem with the ROMS, so I installed the
[ROM] Sprint 2.27.651.6 STOCK and it worked fine.
Then I came back here and read your messages.
I didn't check for an option in handcent DOH!
And I figured it must of been a ROM problem and you confirmed it for me.
Thanks for all your help!!
Anybody know why i cant recieve mms via handcent or chomp sms..only the standard sms app? I like handcent cause of the signature ability

That is strange... In reality I think all alternatives(such as chomp and handcent) work off of the built in messenger app. So if your stock app works with mms, they should too...

Update prl and profile first. That tends to help a lot. Also make sure that you leave receive turned on for stock app but not notifications.

Some messages of mine were cut as well. The only thing that fixed it was an updated mms.apk & use ADB push...
Thanks to Gamingphreek for the fix...
MMS.apk fix
Hi guys.
When I send long text messages, say 3x160 characters, it send the text as a multimedia message. This is highly annoying as I have unlimited texts on my tariff and I get charged for multimedia messages as its not included in my contract. Is there any way to solve with the default Galaxy S application?
Not too fond of Handscent and I just want something simple that works and I dont care too much for all the bangs and whistles of the Handscent app/alternatives.
Change rom dude, developers have noticed this and have hacked the mms app to allow users to have an unlimited amount of SMS pages without it automatically converting to mms, that's all I can advise bud, change rom
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
Is it possible to just replace the app with the modified version? I'm currently on stock odexed 2.3.4 (jvq)
I have noticed that the messages are only long 70 symbols compared to other phones that have 160 per message. And when I write a longer message it shows that is a MMS?
Can someone explain to me why is that, and do I get charged for a MMS message instead of normal one?
Thanks in advance!
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
If you get 70 characters instead of 160, it means you're using non-english characters. All letters with dots, circles, or any other diacritical marks count as a non-standard character and cause your text to fit only 70 characters.
Stock messaging app will convert long text messages to MMS, and for now - there is no way to prevent that. You can always use another app to text people.
And yes, you're being charged for a converted MMS message according to your carriers prices.
Solutions:
- Don't use language specific characters. Just standard english.
- Don't write texts longer than 3x160 ( or 3x70 )
- Use third-party messaging app if you want to avoid auto-converting.
Thanks but I am writing with the English alphabet and not using another language. Can you sugest some good texting app?

Im using stock app, but most people seem to recommend Go SMS Pro as a replacement. Its free in the market.
