Hi folks yesterday i lost my touch diamond2.. now i want to buy another but i think maybe better is HTC Touch HD ? what you guys think ?
Why you are going for Windows Mobile 6.5.x device now? You can go for Windows Phone (for WP7) as WP7 Mango is now released for MS Employee and should be public soon. So I will advise for a WP7 device instead of Windows Mobile 6.5.
But if you like to go for Windows Mobile only I will advise HTC HD2 .
Cheers!!!
EDIT: Mango RTM is available... See here.
Too late jus get HTC HD well camera recording is CIF.. and i think HD is little solver than diamond2
Blackstone vs Topaz
I have both Topaz (Touch Diamond 2) and Blackstone (Touch HD).
The Topaz has a super sharp screen, comparable to Iphone 4 for DPI.
And yeh it does feel faster than Blackstone like you say.
I think the camera on the Topaz is better too.
Topaz is also more compact so if smaller is better than Topaz is better.
But typing on the topaz is a LOT harder than the Blackstone.
Topaz has the zoom bar which is great for certain apps and I think its a better solution for zooming than pinch zooming on capacitive screens. You can zoom with 1 hand! Try pinch zooming while holding it it with the same hand. Blackstone doesnt have capacitive screen so pinch zooming is not an option and it relies on the app UI to do zooming. Zooming is prolly a lot more important on Topaz with smaller screen.
The Blackstone has a 3.5mm headphone jack and the Topaz doesnt. This is a deal breaker for me as I like to use my fav earphones and I had to use an adapter with the Topaz which I hate to carry around.
The blackstone looks and feels better IMO. The Topaz feels all plasticky and cheap in comparison.
I like the magnetic stylus on the Blackstone! It never falls out like the ones on the Topaz. I've lost a couple of Topaz stylus but never lost one on the Blackstone. The larger screen on Blackstone also reduces the need to use the stylus and thus reduces the chance of losing it.
I also prefer the default HOME button on the Blackstone to the corresponding default WINDOWS button on Topaz. The capacitive buttons on the Blackstone also never wear out (if you use a screen protector, it covers them) unlike the ones on the Topaz with the paint flaking off after extensive use.
I still love the Topaz, but I use the Blackstone daily.

Yes Android is an alternate solution of WM7/Mango for any Windows Mobile at present... HD2 is best as we can install WP7 / Mango on it.
Other devices are left with Modified Windows Mobile or Android porting.

Hi guys,
today I talked to an HTC guy on the CeBIT convention in Hannover. I asked him about the release of Windows Mobile 6.5 for the Diamond 1 and he said that he is sure it will come as an update for the Diamond aswell. Diamond 2 will get the update, too. I tested the Diamond 2 today and I must say: AWESOME!!! That thing is so extremely fast in TouchFlo 3D. I had my Diamond 1 in one hand and the Diamond 2 in the other and now I could throw away my Diamond The new Menu for programs is nice, too. All together the Diamond 2 is much better than the Diamond and I think I will sell my Diamond 1 and buy the Diamond 2.
Greetz Frozen-GPU
did you tell him about the release date of diamond2 ?
is it on march or april ?
In fact he couldn't give me a final answer on this I guess he was not the right one to answer the question Only a salesman i think. But in my opinion it's worth waiting for Touch Diamond 2, no matter if it'll be released this or next month. There was another guy buggin' him with stupid questions about connecting HTC devices over bluetooth to his car hands free, so I left without asking more questions...
I mean no disrespect to you, but I really hope that you found the only (IMHO) honest and knowledgeable telephone company salesperson.
That in itself would be an awesome discovery, much more incredible than the 6.5 upgrade for the Diamond
That could be true...
Maybe I better wrote another title for this topic: "Diamond 2 - WOW! Windows Mobile 6.5 on Diamond 1: Very possible!"
Salesmen are really clever, but not in giving technical information
i hope this is true because there are rumors poping up that wm6.5 will only be avaiable for phones with a hardware windows start button
WIMO 6.5 on Diamond 1 not likely
The word from Microsoft is that ONLY the phones with Windows button will ever be supported as a Windows Mobile 6.5 platform. I'd say that minimizes the chance that HTC will take the time and money to develop a 6.5 rom for an old device that will probably be end of life soon.
yet tested our beloved device with a pre wm6.5 and it's too much sloooow and crappy too
I think wm6.5 needs more ram, perhaps could be sane on diamond2 but right now isn't ready to be used on diamond1
Start button?
i don't see why MS is saying it HAS to have a start button. the Diamond had 9 hardware buttons (if the whole pad is broken down into all its functions) i'm sure that one of those buttons could be allocated for that use

I totally agree with that Put a Windows Logo sticker over the "Home" Hardwarebutton and voila ^^
I have to admit I'm a bit puzzled as to why this is a stumbling block. WinMo 6.5 will presumably be a whole new ROM and I imagine would have a few chefs cooking with it. We've seen that it will work on Diamond, it should be simple enough to map a single button to make it work.
Shouldn't it?
Winmo 6.5 on Diamond...
not sure if I am toe-stepping, or pointing out what everyone already know, but there's a winmo 6.5 beta for the diamond here ->
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=481896
havent given it a go yet, as my Diamond isn't really expendable (work phone i'd be shot for messing up) but it seems though good progress has been made!

Yeah Windows Mobile 6.5 BETA has been released from several cookers, but I was talking about native support for WM6.5 on the HTC Touch Diamond. Even if HTC won't update the Diamond, the cookers here will release it for us, that's for sure But it would be nice if HTC gives an official update for the Diamond 1.

I think it is unlikely: no windows start key (which is not needed of course, but it is an advertising trick from microsoft, which imho is fearing the lack of image associated to WinMo compared to the new kids in town (android, OSX, WebOS), and is trying to get smartphone manufacturer to provide some free advertising - equivalent to "Windows Vista compatible" on the PC peripherals for example), so probably HTC will not get the OK from Microsoft on this one. Morerover, it is not sure HTC would do it even if they could (except maybe for the touch HD): Diamond2 and Pro2 will be out before WinMo6.5, so upgrading only the latest model is a way to force the previous ones (TD1/TP1) into obsolescence...especially as the specs are not so different, so any differentiation is good to get...
TouchHD successor seems further away, possibly after the release of the first 6.5 devices, or the 6.5 upgrade for TD2/TP2...so I guess official touch HD upgrade is maybe possible...
There's not going to be an update for "old Ht'c like de Touch Diamond, Touch Pro and Touch HD...
Will HTC sence be available for htc diamond2 ???
They could do one of 3 things:-
1) Use it to sell the new devices.
2) Release it for older devices and make as huge deal of it, to show how well they treat people who buy their devices.
3) Put it on the phones which are getting the WM6.5 Updates.
3) I doubt.
2) Maybe, but unlikely.
1) Probably.

WM6.5??? Isn't it based on Android instead of WM???
the HTC Sense is coming for all OS:
http://gigaom.com/2009/06/24/htc-hero-brings-sense-to-the-market/
Looks like TF3D crossed with PountUI2. Again no WM Today support. All applet based. HTC custom applet format probably.
See video here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKTDSfbcbBU
Note the browser (as this vid is Android). It will be very Ironic when Microsoft sue Google for shipping Android with Mobile Chrome
Actually the applets are not full screen AND not even screen width. PointUI responded to users and have an applet structure to utilize free screen space. I am scoring HTC with a FAIL for having to go down the same learning curve after it has already been done and proven a mistake. Bigger applets you clowns!
All i know is i want it, because if it wasn't for the HTC software on WM devices they would be rubbish!
So cant i can wait to give it a go

hehe, that is one opinion.
IMHO, if it can't be customised to be practical to your own needs then it is just extended TF3D gimmick. I may be able to swap to a calendar view in 57 different ways and view it in different 17 styles and 200 colours but if I can't decide how many days appointments to see in preview mode then we are just back to bling (another action movie with no plot).
We will wait and see
HTC Sense, TF3D 2.5 or something else on WM6.5 devices ?
Sense vs. TF3D?
it's nice i guess. more of a free flowing TF3D with MS3 sort of function. more excited about TF3D2.5 tbh.
Will this (TF3D 2.5) be able to be implemented into the cooked ROM's..
hoping so...
Which is the first release of WM that included kintetic/flick scrolling?
Which is the first release of WM that included pinch zoom?
I can't get a clear answer on this.
If I were looking for those features, would it be better, IYO, to upgrade my BA to whichever version of WM has those features, or would you recomend SPB Pocket Plus, as an alternative. I'm running the newest UK rom1.42 currently, and it's great, with few exceptions.
TIA!
Well as no one has answered these questions:
6.5 was first to have flick scrolling built in, but other developers had added it in to prior versions
The HD2 (With 6.5) is the first and only with pinch to zoom.
I would recommend to just wait for a while until winmo 7 comes out with all of these
The BA cannot support pinch zooming, because of the technology used for the touchscreen. The HD2 is the only WM phone that supports multitouch.
Well thanks, ya'll.
I didn't even think about the resistive vs capacative screens being an issue with that.
Oh well. For me, there doesn't apear to be any real reason to upgrade my BA to anything but WM5.
Thanks again!
6.5.x builds are really quite fast, and more finger friendly. Much faster than wm5
I thought the swat4 tmo rom was just about the fastest there was for the BA?
as the title says...can it be done, hardware is very similar to other wm6.5 handsets out there so isnt it possible to upload their roms to this phone???
would it be possible in the future, as would help me choose the liquid to buy right now over the HD2.
thank you
if you want winmo why not getting a neotouch s200? is almost the same as liquid but winmo
want capacitive touch screen and multitouch.
the resistive touchscreen on the s200 looks laggy to say the least, nothing to do with the processor.
As far as I know Windows Mobile 6.x only supports resistive touch screens
even if it did support capacitive, all those Windows mobile menus and items are so small they are not finger friendly, you would have a horrible time merely navigating through the OS
why do you want to use windows mobile?
I've used windows mobile 5.0 then that old phone died and I bought a new phone with windows mobile 6.1. At the same time I was handed a HTC Dream (The G1, first android) for my thesis project, and I was playing around with that. Instantly the android made Windows Mobile seem slow, ugly and horrible to use.
The WinMo had a slide open keyboard. It literally took about 30 seconds - 1 minute for all the UI to change from portrait mode to landscape, horribly slow.
Which is why I bought my own G1, and now a happy owner of an Acer Liquid
im guessing you have tried the HTC HD2 yet, its UI is amazing.
considering the liquids hardware isnt too different, wouldnt it be possible.
old winmo phone were crap, the new HD2 with new UI is amazing. trust me
i think no one has tried with success to port winmo to an android phone.. so far, i dont think there's many trying...winmo 6.x is dead now, 7 series is coming
Not gonna happen, one reason is that WinMo is closed-Source and then there would be no drivers available but Android uses proprietary drivers instead.
Uff xD it's really impossible...
SciLor's HD2 / Leo Multitouch .NET CF DLL
http://www.scilor.com/hd2-leo-dotNetCfMultiTouchDLL.html
Is it possible with this in the Roms!
Asking to ROM makers!
That will increase life of the TP2 2 more years. that is the only new think I want with WM7.
Thanks
Tunc
I hope that you see the "LEO" or "HD2" in the name, right?
Because, HD2 supports multitouch on hardware level. Our phones don't. Why? Because our touchscreens can't do it. The only way around it is use my PinchToZoom software, enabling it in (older vers) OM9.5/9.7/GMAPS or (new ver, HD2-like zooming) in OM9.7 or (upcomming version) in all apps that HD2 supports it.
I will test your app soon an write back
Thanks
Leo HD2's touch screen is different with our TP2.
TP2 is Resistive touch screen.
HD2 is the introduction of Capacitive touch screen
thanks
limited use but works,
Tunc
